Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Marien Puerto Plata

At first, we (6 of us) did not get the rooms (3 rooms) we purchased. The rooms were awful, damp and humid with a disgusting oudour, one of them without AC. We all wanted to go home immediaterly. Very stressfull. Eventually, after a lot of complaining, the satff did make it right and gave us good rooms. Thank you Marlen and Jordan. The food at the buffet was ok but little selection and very repeative. The food and service at the restaurents was good. The resort was nice as prosmised, the b [... read more]each, the pool and the ammenities were very nice. I think the biggest dissapointment for us was the staff. Most (not all) were disgrunteld, not very freindly, and certainly not happy. They seemed to resent us for vacationing there. Also things were very pricey on the resot and we felt we were being gouged.

Emotions by Hodelpa Puerto Plata: Exceeded my expectations!

I loved my stay at Emotions. Loved the food! A lot of selection! The rooms were very nice, no hot water but not horrible! Difficult to book an a la cartes unless you bribe with $$$. Everything was close together and easy to walk to. First time I would say I would return to a resort! The cleaning lady did not lock sliding door twice to our ground floor room which was not great!

Viva Tangerine by Wyndham: Viva Tangerine was quite nice!

A beautiful resort right on the ocean. Multiple pools with ample lounge chairs/sunbeds/table seating. Lots of loungers on the beach in a beautiful semi-shaded palm grove too. Great buffet & a variety a la carte options . Tennis/beach v-ball/table tennis/ foosball/board games all available. Drawbacks? Good Wifi, but limited to common areas/pool deck. Nothing in rooms. Not a lot of hot water. Shower early in the day. Only one main bar continuously open. Line-ups occurred at peak times in the day.  [... read more]Bring your own Yeti to fill. Sunscape Puerto Plata: Great water,beach

Playa dorada is a great mature area. Beautiful gardens and mature trees. Sun scape is friendly and clean. Some amenities were not available at our time for some reason. We expected a little more as was described but had a great time away from work and hustle bustle.

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Not child friendly yet

The club was too loud and ran too late. There was also no policy for noises after midnight. We traveled with an infant and a four year old. The noise kept them up until they passed out from tiredness. The room was too cold that our family ended up catching a cold two days into our stay. Our washroom floor was always wet from the humidity. Room service did not change our sheets even when we placed the sign from the washroom onto the bed. We were okay to eat the food but our kids would rather starve themselves than eat it. Mainly because food was a bit too salty. We’ve been to surrounding countries like Mexico, Cuba, Jamaica, etc. However, in comparison, this is rated the lowest for resorts we have stayed at. The staff didn’t seem too friendly, there were no smiles and they would only greet if customer greeted them first. Not once did the waiters/waitresses checked up on us to see if we needed refills on coffee or drinks. We had to wave them over. Last thing to add was that when we first arrived, the transfer bus for westjet had us waiting on the bus for two hours to wait for their other travelers. Our kids were thirsty and hungry and sleepy after over twelve hours for travel and waiting. The experience was brutal.

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Disappointed

This was our 4th visit to this hotel and sadly we will not be returning. It used to be adult only but now it is accepting families and is very busy on weekends with locals who take over the pool. Rooms are very tired and we were moved 3 times during our 10 day stay. The staff are amazing and were sympathetic to our issues. We were upgraded to a suite at no extra cost but even then, the electricity went out in our room twice. I had to go to guest services to request a hairdryer for the room. Fo [... read more]od at the buffet is hit and miss with not much of a change daily. Mexican restaurant is great! The hotel grounds are very well maintained but the beach was a disgrace. Strong waves brought in plastic bottles galore and broken plastic cups etc. but this was not cleaned up during the final 3 days of our stay. I had recommended this hotel in the past but won't now.

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Not an ideal resort

The rooms in this hotel are not the first freshness. The floor, look and design are outdated. The ceiling in every room is leaking (my friends also talked about such a problem). Room cleaning is good. The staff is friendly and always fulfilled our requests. But the most spoiling of our vacation was Saturday, when a lot of local residents came to the resort. The staff immediately became very unfriendly. There was a long queue at the restaurant, we had to return after an hour and a half, when the  [... read more]locals had left. After, the locals showed themselves. They had fun too openly, and in the morning they left behind a mountain of garbage. We are not impressed with this resort. For this time we endured, but I will not come back here again. They are not worth 4 stars.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: My happy place

I have found that the Iberostar hotels have a great vibe for a relaxing vacation. This resort is clean, the staff so, so friendly and accommodating. You can either join in with the games or just relax and read books, vacation your way. The ocean was red flag our entire time there but we were okay with that, you cannot control weather.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Disappointed Review

Quite disappointed with our experience, however, I will say that the staff were so friendly & incredibly kind throughout. The mountain views were stunning, and everything was clean and well kept. The music played at the pool was terrible (Adele, really?). Why not Soca, or Buchata? The pool was clean and appeared well kept. The beach wasn't maintained, and only saw it raked/tidied once during our 5 day stay. Our room smelt like mildew, and was quite musty. Very dated furniture. Our AC didn't  [... read more]quite work and felt like it was on 'fan' setting, but the temp was comfortable enough for us. If you want to keep things in the safe it's an additional $3 a day (that's such a money grab). If you want A La Carte, they try talking you into spending an additional $25/day to become VIP, otherwise you have no chance at getting a reservation. And you're required to come to the front desk at 8a.m. to book this reservation. The food was decent at the buffet, and service staff were attentive and nice. We went to two shows, both dancing entertainment. Very enjoyable. Our vacation was nice, but we wouldn't recommend this resort and will definitely look at a different spot when we return to DR.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Resort good value

Resort as good as ever - 11 previous visits. Would recommend to anyone. However Sunwing service for departure was horrible at airport and it was not airport staff all on Sunwing. I will avoid Sunwing for future travel.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Very nice resort

My stay at the Senator was somewhat enjoyable. On my first day there I wanted to take a shower, but there was no hot water, I called the front desk and they said they would send someone over to fix it. On day two they had a power outage for about 13 hours. I have to say even with no power, The staff, was still able to do a really great buffet breakfast. Day two and three I complained again about hot water they were going to send someone over. I would’ve thought they could tell me that right from the beginning. He said if you’re not happy, you’re more than welcome to go to customer service and complain.?? The resort was very clean very well kept as were the rooms. The staff was wonderful very friendly, always helpful . The buffet was great. They had so much variety in food. I really enjoyed tropical Avenue, I was able to find a few things to buy to take home with me. On the couple of rainy days, I used the gym, which was extremely nice and well equipped. I don’t think I would return to the Senator again, even though there were some positive things about it. I must’ve picked the wrong time of year to go because 3 1/2 out of the 7 days we had rain. (Nothing that the resort could control). I gave you a lower rating on the value because of the hot water situation and the lack of not being honest with your guests about it.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Nice Place - Amazing Staff

This is our second time here to this resort. I would say that it is a average resort that is not too big. I think this attracts a lot of people here, especially Canadians who are very friendly. The food is good, there's always something for everyone, not over the top, but good. The staff is very friendly and the beach is great and easy to get into ocean for a swim. The pool is just one central pool with a bar, but it has everything you need for a great price. Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Our third trip to Cofresi / good value.

We have found this resort to be a good option while we are in Dominican tending to our boat in Luperon. The staff are accommodating and friendly, lots of variety for pools, ocean front. For the price we feel it is a great option.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Another fun trip to the Senator!

We stayed at the Senator in January and enjoyed it so much that we brought friends with us for our second trip in November. What stood out to us is the incredibly friendly staff, the cleanliness, beauty and layout of the resort. Everything is within a 5 minute away – the beach, pool, rooms, lobby, restaurants, shows, sports bar, coffee shop. The rooms are basic but so clean and our king bed was very comfortable. It was nice to eat on the outside patio at the buffet and have a view of the pool  [... read more]and beach/ocean. We enjoyed watching the cruise ships sail in and out of Amber Cove next door. The ocean was mostly calm and clear the week we were there and we all spent several hours in the water. Some days there were a few small stones when you enter the water but not always. I never wore the water shoes that I brought. There was no seaweed while we were there. The buffet had a great selection of fresh fruit, bread and pastries, salads, soup, cheese, vegetables, pizza, grilled chicken, fish, pork, etc. No complaints. We ate at 2 of the a la cartes and had no problem getting reservations for the 12 of us. Mokka has good selections of coffees and teas. The service at the restaurants and bars was top notch. The Legends Sports Bar is open 24 hours and had the best drinks, great food, a fun atmosphere and quick and friendly service. We really enjoyed the animation team of Skinny, Cappucino, Pollo, Baby, Monkey Black. We had lots of laughs with them during our daily bocce ball game on the beach, poolside games and evening shows. If you like fine dining, luxurious accommodations and being pampered then this is probably not the resort for you. If you enjoy a small intimate resort with a wonderful staff that treats you like family then I definitely recommend giving it a try. It’s easy to make friends and you don’t get lost in the crowd like you do at some of the larger resorts we have been to. We saw several familiar faces and many of them remembered us from our first trip. I hope to return some day.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Great Resort

We just returned from a two week stay at Sunscape and will be back next year. We always book the Sunscape club adults. The service at this resort is excellent, the bartender during the day is Santiago and he is absolutely the best to greeting you at 7am for morning coffee and pastries and making great dirty monkeys in the afternoon after a day at the beach. The rest of the staff are also great and always smiling and eager to make your stay enjoyable. The food is good although we did notice this year not quite as good as last year but we could always find something we liked. The beach is great and cleaned daily and great service for drinks.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Loved this resort!

We were at Iberostar Costa Dorada for nine days in early December.We travelled with air transit and their service was very good. The resort itself was very clean and the grounds are beautiful. The beach was kept very clean and we went daily. We swam in the ocean and it was warm. It was a nice stretch of beach that you could walk for a bit on if you wanted to walk. The pool was well maintained , we used it daily also. They lit up their Christmas lights December 7 and that was amazing. The main gr [... read more]ounds looked magical. That was a very special experience. Food was good at all restaurants with lots of variety. We would return to this resort.

Playabachata Hotel: Great Resort

Clean, well maintained, rooms a little outdated but clean. Food was very good and lots of variety. Staff was always helpful. Beach was a little rough the time we were there but you could still have fun.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Can’t say enough

This is our second time at this resort The service and staff are undeniably some of the best we have encountered They continuously work to keep the resort beautiful and clean The beach is gorgeous with a sand bottom We will definitely be back next year Thank you

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Beautiful Resort

This is a beautiful picture perfect resort. We just returned from 2 weeks at Iberostar Costa Dorado. Great oceanfront view and highly recommend Building 1 as the other oceanfront building has a condominium development being built beside it and the work is starting to get noisy. Food is great along with staff; Domingo is the best server and Manuel in customer service is wonderful! Entertainment definitely needs some higher quality singers and the shows are a bit dated. The beach is gorgeous and w [... read more]e went on 5-10km walks daily! One great thing here are the amount of lounge chairs; never had to “reserve” chairs as they were never out of them. We always sat in the second row facing the ocean. We preferred not to sit directly on the beach. The bar service this time was much better and they were much more acute in serving as you arrived at the bar. Previous visits you would only be served in a timely manner if you tipped. Must have gotten multiple complaints as so much better this stay. Cleaning staff work hard and they did a great job! Will be returning again.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Great resort

This resort was perfect. The food in the buffet could not have been better. Ever day at the carving station was a different kind of meat and the sides were delicious. The quiet pool was great in the mornings and we loved the woman behind the bar. I have never been to a resort that has been so clean and everywhere you look there is some kind of person working or cleaning. The staff are some of the friendliest I have ever seen at a resort.
