Barcelo Maya Colonial: Great resort!

This is a beautiful resort with lots to do especially for families with kids and teens. Between the beach volleyball, ping pong, foosball, basketball, mini golf plus all the planned activites, you really can't get bored. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The food is good. In particular, the tappenyaki restaurant Tokyo in the Mayan Mall section of the resort is a must. They put on an incredible show and the food there is excellent!

El Dorado Seaside Suites: Absolutely beautiful!

My husband and I just got back from our 4 day little getaway and we had a great time! New years party was awesome which was a nice touch. Restaurants were great, minus us both getting sick our last night- we ate a burger at the outdoor bbq and it did not sit well. Our room was spectacular!!! 7617----amazing view!!!!!!!!! Only downfall---barely a beach BUT Sensimar has a beautiful beach so we were over on that side most of our stay. We will be returning to this resort hopefully sooner then later! [... read more]!!

Hidden Beach Au Naturel Resort: Hidden just doesn't refer to the beach!

Hidden beach is a nice little resort! and advertises that it's not a lifestyle resort! But it is, it's just hidden!! Swingers are in full swing looking for action. Probably won't go back, not because of that but of the fact the beach isn't great , and it's so small

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Not an all inclusive fan but can't wait to go back to Barcelo Playa del Carmen

Beautiful and extremely well maintained grounds. Staff was outstanding. Beautiful beach with privacy and activities to cater to everyone's needs. The food was outstanding! !! We are gourmet cooks and braced ourselves for heat lamps and dried out food. The expectation was ever so greatly exceeded so very favorably. Freshly grilled fish, lobster tails, steaks on an on....

Grand Sunset Princess: Sunset and RIVIERA princess resort.

Please let it be known that this hotel is humangus. It is not suitable for people who have difficulty walking. I got lost few times and because I had difficulty mobilizing I became very unhappy and distressed until I moved to a room closer to the main lobby. Also we discovered other accomodations that exist for disabled people that we were not told about it by the travel agency. Catalonia Yucatan: Nice place!

The grounds were immaculate and well maintained. Our room was large, clean and the balcony was fairly private. The resort had many amenities which were included in the price (kayaking, snorkelling, bicycling). The food was excellent, well presented and fresh. The resort is a ten minute walk to a marina where dolphins and manatees are performing. Excellent value and beautiful scenery.

El Dorado Royale: Meals a royal pain!

Though the hotel and food were very good, meals were poorly managed during a peak time when hotel was full. All meals were a la carte, no buffet option. We arrived and were told all the reservations were booked including New Years! The whole reason for our trip! We ended up waiting for a table at every meal. Up to 2 hours! When we complained, management gave us reservations for New Years but when we arrived we were turned away with the restaurant saying they don't take reservations. Grand Palladium Kantenah: Outstanding Resort

Would definitely recommend anyone to visit it we were very impressed with food & selection friendly staff & well maintained!!!Shows were great & happy we had all accesss to all Palladiums treated like Royalty

Grand Palladium Riviera Resort And Spa: Great family vacation!

I stayed at the Grand Palladium Riviera over Christmas 2016 with my husband, 15-month old son, and my extended family (mom, dad, sister, brother-in-law, and two nephews aged 3 and 5). The vacation and the resort were wonderful. Not 100% perfect, but there were far more pros than cons. Food. Overall, the food was fabulous. My only complaint with the buffets was the length of time it often took to get anyone to bring a highchair, and we often had to ask multiple people before a high chair would be brought over to our table. We tried 3 a la carte restaurants, and the beach restaurant (rice and fish) and the thai restaurant were both fantastic, although service at the beach restaurant was very, very slow to start. The rib restaurant was not up to par and I enjoyed the food at the buffets much more than the meal I had at the restaurant. I drank the house red wine and it was drinkable, except for some reason in the hotel lobbies they always served it ice cold which made it unbearable. Not sure why they do this when it is a normal temperature when served elsewhere. Child care. The baby club was wonderful. I took my son there for 1 to 2 hours at a time so that we could truly relax for some time each day. The staff were very nice, especially after they got to know him, and there were lots of toys to keep him busy. We also hired babysitters for 2 evenings so we could have a later dinner and not worry about our son getting tired and cranky and throwing his food on the floor. The babysitters were very sweet and we came home to our son sleeping peacefully in the pack-and-play provided by the resort each time. $10 US per hour was worth it for us. Pools, beach, amenities. Good! I knew the resort was not new and that everything would not be perfect (4.5 to 5 star Mexico standards are not like Canadian standards), but overall it was very clean and well maintained. The pools were large and we were generally able to find chairs at the pools and beach without too much difficulty. The beach was beautiful and the water is turquoise. The only complaint I have is that there are more rocks than I would like. Ouch! Distance. The one big, overriding complaint I have is the distances and the lack of consistent / frequent trolley service to and from our room. We stayed in the Riviera side knowing it was not ideal, but the time it took to get to the baby club and surrounding areas really detracted from our vacation. We almost always had to walk because there were never any trolleys around when we needed them, and it took a very long time because of kids and a stroller, plus were were always hauling our stroller up the stairs to cross the canals. I do actually love walking and love the "forced" exercise, but with kids we really found it a huge time killer when we just wanted to get where we were going and play, swim, and relax! Staff. 70% great / 30% indifferent. Weather. WONDERFUL. Rooms. Although we did not have a good view, the room was larger than expected which was nice. A very clean, perfect condition and nicely made up Graco Pack n Play was provided for my son to sleep in. The housekeeping was great and I love having coffee in the room each morning, so no complaints there at all.

Occidental at Xcaret Destination: Great resort with amazing grounds

The entrance area and view are stunning! The tile work at the front desk is incredible, and the service was friendly, fast and efficient. Our room had been redone and was very clean, fresh, comfortable (great bedding), had everything we required (minibar, safe, toiletries, etc.) and everything operated perfectly. We enjoyed the grounds and wildlife immensely. This was our sixth stay in the Mayan Riviera, and the first time we've experienced deers and monkeys on the grounds of our resort. The location next to Xcaret Ecopark and so close to Playa del Carmen was terrific. We spent a day at Xcaret and we will definitely return to this resort because of both our experience at this resort and because we want to spend more time at the park. Thank you!

Grand Palladium Select White Sand: Beautiful Resort

The property is spectacular and very well maintained. The food was ok ....the only negative I would say is that they don't take Reservations for the speciality restaurants,which could have you waiting for Couple hours. They expect you to stay right there in the line up. we went and sat in the lobby with the buzzer given to us and after hour and a half found out that they kept bumping other people . Hyatt Vivid Playa Del Carmen: Returned December 20, 2016

Had a great time at the Royal. This is our 3rd visit and we love it more every time we go. The food, service & cleanliness of this resort is amazing. We love walking the beach & the location and access to Fifth Avenue. We don't like big resorts, so the Royal is perfect. Can't wait to go back!!

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Perfect Loacation

This resort is huge, to big for us. We prefer a smaller resort. The location was great and was close to all of the excursions we went on, tulum, snorkeling, cenotes and dolphins. The food at the buffet was great, lots of variety even for our picky eaters.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Disaster from the start

We arrived at the Grand Bahia Principe Coba on Dec. 24th around 12:00 noon. We had high hopes and expectations since so many good reviews posted on the website about the hotel. However, we were told at first that the room was not ready, the hotel staff told us to come back in one and a half hour later. So we got ourselves breakfast/lunch and went back to the front counter exactly one and a half hour later. We were told again the room was not ready, hotel staff again told us to come back in 45 [... read more] min. So we decided to tour around the facility and went back in 45 min. Third time we were told again the room was not ready, the hotel staff told us to come back at 3:00 o'clock. At that point, we raised our voice and suddenly the room was available, however the room was not what we reserved for. We requested for two double beds with 2nd floor balcony. The hotel staff told us that in two days a room will be available. At that point, we clearly draw the line and said no substitution, asked the hotel to book another room available now not in two days. The hotel staff was rude and arrogant. There was no manager available to plead our case. So for anyone wishes to book this hotel, you should know there is no early check-in. Looking over our shoulder, we saw several other guests having the same issue. We fought and fought and finally got our room. After that experience we told ourselves never to come back again to this hotel. My two children have gone through the same ordeal. For your info, there is a VIP system, for those who has the VIP membership with the hotel, we hear that the treatment is very different. For the regular guests like us, the hotel will treat you like a dirt. So if you decided to book a five star hotel, please go else where. Unless you wish to pay extra money to buy into their VIP membership which is around $20,000 and up. Only good beach in this big resort is the Akumal beach, if you have the blue Coba band around your wrist, the hotel will literally kick you out. The other two beaches are Coba and Tulum which are full of rocks and seaweed. If you wish to enjoy the beach, you should book with the Akumal hotel. If you have booked with Coba or Tulum, then you have no access to Akumal. The suite washroom has no exhaust fan!!! There is no way this is a five star hotel. The coffee tastes horrible. From our experience, this is not a five star hotel.

Grand Palladium Select White Sand: Nice resort

Rooms were amazing. Property was beautiful and was very eco friendly. Cleaning and serving staff was really good. Administrative staff was not always very helpful. The staff working on the front registratuon of every lobby had very poor knowledge of the resort. The worst part was the "no reservations" policy at the specialty restaurants. We wasted so much time every evening. Even when we made the reservation the tables were given to people who came after us. Hyatt Vivid Playa Del Carmen: Five Star Resort!

A repeat traveller to this resort we are never disappointed. The rooms are beautiful with a surprise waiting every night plus 24 hr. room service. The grounds are stunning and the pools are extremely spacious. Excellent variety of delicious meals at all restaurants. Lots of activities and entertainment. Transportation to and from airport is a breeze. The Gym and Spa are also high quality. Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Mediocre...

This was our second time at the Blue Bay Grand Esmerelda over Christmas - and was very underwhelming. We booked it again because it seemed like a great price and we didn't want the hassle of researching all new resorts. The holiday was ok - but nothing really spectacular. We have been going down south for Christmas since 2004 - and usually go to Punta Cana, Dominican. Last year we thought we'd try Mexico. It was a nice change so we decided to return this year. Christmas Eve was supposed to be a special dinner - but it seemed like the regular buffet items - but with a stuffed turkey. Of course I'm comparing the experience to Dominican here there is a huge seafood & sushi spread, carved roast beef, ham, turkey, special desserts... The service was lack lustre too. There were of course a few exceptions to the rule of bartenders/servers who created an experience - but most of the time it was hard to get their attention. They didn't really offer anything - like more water, coffee, another drink, etc. - you had to ask. And if you asked they would come and fill yours and then walk away without filling everyone else at the table. On Christmas Eve when the Black & White bar was extremely busy, they had two bartenders serving - and one on a ladder doing bottle inventory?????? We thought it would be easier to get a drink at the bar since the servers don't come to the tables very often, but we couldn't get a drink at the bar after waiting about 20 min. There was one server - Elvis - in the buffet at the small pool who was great. He's really the only one worthy of noting. The maid service was adequate. They would make the bed and replace the towels - but that's about it. Sometimes they wouldn't even replace the towels. Some days there would be three facecloths and one bath towel...other days no facecloths and three bath towels... The trolley stops running at 10:45 pm - but the restaurants are still open, and the shows are still going on. It was difficult (and far!) for my elderly parents to walk back to the room if they wanted to finish watching the show. And no matter how many people were left waiting for the trolley, they would not make another run after 10:45 pm. It is also difficult to get to the pool restaurants. The steakhouse & seafood restaurant are on the other side of the big pool - and you have to balance on the pool edge and squeeze between the chairs they have lined up. There is also no place to sit and have a few drinks and play cards & talk. There is only the Black & White bar at night which is loud, dark and always crowded. Hard to get a table - never mind service! And no where to go if it's raining. Except B&W - but good luck getting a seat when the entire resort is trying to get on there! Pools are decent. Although there is not much shade at all. At the small pool they have a few hut like things - but the roof is just slats so the sun comes in. And they were all taped off when we were there because they said they were redoing them. So there was ZERO shade around the pool for the entire week. There is little to no maintenance around the grounds either. The lights in the main hallway of our building were out all week. Despite us mentioning it several times to the front desk. Overall the resort is ok. Decent. Mediocre. The rooms are clean (didn't see any bugs), the food is good, no one is rude. But no one goes above and beyond to make your stay great.

Tukan Hotel Playa Del Carmen: Awesome Resort

This was excellent, the staff were very nice and helpful, the room was very comfortable, the hotel had so many beautiful trees it look liked a jungled, i loved it. It has a buffet restaurant, a la carte restaurant and 2 bars, and one bar at the beach. All of these had amazing food and excellent service. The hotel was in 5fth avenue, it was so centered everything was so close, even thou it was right by the beach it was a nice short walk and you still got to enjoy drinks at the beach at the Kool b [... read more]each bar. I would recommend it, we had an amazing stayed. I'd go back again, and off course the price was right. again great atmosphere, center, comfortable and excellent food and service.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Shit (or at least diarrhea) Happens

10 of 13 in our group were hit by diarrhea, none at the same time, up to a week apart. Have been to Mexico more than a half dozen times, and this property two years ago, but this was a new experience. The food was good but the group seemed to feel it was better two years ago.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Great Resort

We had a AWESOME time here! The staff were courteous,hard working and very attentive. The grounds were well maintained,the gym was well equipped with equipment. The Sports lounge was a great place to watch sports on there BIG screen in a theater setting, & had a 6 lanes of bowling also. The Restaurants meals were very good, especially the Japanese. The resort was very clean, & never a shortage of loungers or towels. You could book all the restaurants @ once, & you never had to hand in a card to  [... read more]get a towel each time. They had lots of pools(with lap pools also),activities & a FREE Dolphin show on the property.The resort is 1 of 5 on the grounds, so you could walk or jog along the beach on sidewalks. If you wanted they also had a double decker bus available for use, but you could walk almost anywhere under roofs that provide coverage from rain. Free papers were available @ guest services & trained Raptor birds kept all other birds away.
