Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Nice stay

This was as good a stay as I've ever had in Varodero. The pools and beach are beautiful. My only concerns are with the overall condition of the resort, I think "worn" is a good descriptor. The food is comparatively good for Cuba. The location is a bit far from downtown if that's important to you, a $20 cab ride.

Memories Jibacoa: Excellent Location

This was my 7th stay at this resort and I will return again and again - it's like coming home! The selection of food was not as good as it used to be but you will not go hungry. The staff is amazing - shout out to Roger at the beach bar! Your the best! The rooms are clean but do need a little TLC, the grounds are spectacular. Best of all the location cannot be beat - beautiful quiet location secluded but close enough for short drive into Havana or Varadero. Hope to see you again next year!

Memories Jibacoa: A Great Tranquil Resort

This is no longer a Breezes and is now a Memories Resort. It was ideal and exceeded our expectations. Apparently, after speaking to repeat clients, the food and grounds have been positively updated since Memories took over. We went for the snorkeling and it was fabulous. Hotel Los Cactus: Relaxing

Having been to Cuba numerous times, I decided to take my 21 year old son with me in order to rest, relax and have fun. It was nice that he could stay in his own room as there was no single supplement. We were put into an older wing of the resort that was under renovation but were quickly moved to two nicer rooms. Food was okay but there were many birds flying in and out of the buffet restaurant. Reception staff were pleasant at times. Housekeeping and bar staff were great!

Muthu Playa Varadero: Nice cozy resort

Overall - I would go back at the right price. Beautiful beach, nice pool. Average rooms. "Cuban" service. Wait for your drinks at the pool bar, they are in no hurry. Two towels in the room for the whole week, no clean towels available. Food was just fair ( as expected). Some staff was nice, but the bar staff at the pool need to learn to smile. We went for the beach, and we enjoyed every day.

Barcelo Solymar: Love this resort !!

I've been to this 4 times , and everytime I go it's always an amazing time. From The entertainment by the pool , to the fantastic service. If your thinkin about taking a trip to this resort , I would say pack upppp , and I'll meet you there ! Cubas food has gotten a lot better over the past two years, but you should know, that you shouldn't be travelling there with the highest excpectations. Hotel Los Cactus: Fair 4 day getaway

Liked the hotel, food was satisfactory. Nice staff. Sunwing not so great. Delayed our trip by 10 hours going there, so we lost one day out of four then delayed us by 2 hours on the way back. Its a little tough to work the next day when you airline gets you home at 5am. Never impressed with sunwing.

Starfish Varadero: A Fresh Approach for a Great Hotel

This hotel has recently been purchased. The new energy includes the friendly, visible manager and his assistants who listen and act immediately, as well as the tasteful renovations that have been accomplished and are ongoing. Twenty four hour entertainment suits all. The lobby bar had wonderful live musicians, all kinds.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Good large resort but more of a party resort

This resort was very large and had areas for the party group as well as areas for the families, but they didn't separate their rooms this way. So there were many nights that we were woken up by the noise in the hall way and above our room. The staff was friendly and the grounds were beautiful. They seemed to have a hard time keeping the bathrooms stocked, clean and functioning. We enjoyed our vacation but wouldn't go back to this resort again.

Sol Palmeras: Amazing Experience

Good food, good service, the pool was amazing!!! This was an amazing trip!!! We went for a friends wedding and it was just beautiful. The pool was always clean and the pool bar was amazing!!! I love sol palmeras!!!

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Great place to stay

Loved our stay there. The beach was amazing. .the housekeeping staff so efficient. The wait staff were tremendous. .always having a table for us.if ever we go back to cuba we would go back to the resort

Barcelo Solymar: Needs security to control your customers

This is our 5th visit to Varadero, staying at a different resort each time so we knew all to well what to expect with the rooms and buffet. Long review but I try to cover alot of things. Stayed 10 days in May, 2016 Barcelo Solymar... Check in was good and never had any issues when we had to ask questions at front desk.Thank you again for the room upgrade to bungalow suite and the gift on arrival. We never used the bottom floor as we utilized the top floor as the main room with the patio. Maid wa [... read more]s in everyday so bed sheets were changed twice in our 10 day stay. The fridge was stocked everyday by the fridge man with water and some Crystal beer as requested. Varadero beach is fabulous, we spent our 10 days on the beach. The down side of my review is this. Yes the rooms are outdated and need a fresh coat of paint. The Pool and resort.. Catered to a younger loud group of people.Our room faced a beautiful pool but very noisy pool bar, day and night. The entertainment was way to loud, you couldn't hear yourself think. Especially after 12amwhen all the party goers start and that annoying siren cutting in between the music all night drove us over the edge. The pool water was very dirt with big clumps of hair rolling around the bottom and with the noise is was not at all welcoming nor inviting. After that first hour experience we went to the beach everyday. Hats off to the pool guy every morning who had his hands full to face the clean up after the night before, what a mess of plastic cups and straws and gawd knows what else. In the 10 days we did not see a water vacuum in the pool area, would help to clean the bottom of the pool. Smell of chlorine was very scarse. Book away from pool if you like piece and quiet after supper. The beach was our preferred location as I spent my 50th birthday in a decorated lounge chair. It got outta hand one day as one group carried around a big boom box all week and decided to crash on the beach. The more people complained the louder the distorted music got. We all paid money to stay at this resort so people think they can do want. Where is the respect of some people?? After many attempts from people telling them to turn it down they eventually left. We met people from England on our trip and they had the same experience as us. One morning they entered the lobby and there was broken glass everywhere from the night before, like clean it up as soon as possible and put these rowdy youngsters in their place.Barcelo Solymar needs more security. Your dealing with so many people and every resort needs security. If these things happen in Mexico or my home town they would be thrown out of the resort. Just saying. Also during the two BIG THUNDERSTORMS people were still in the pool, where is the security to get them out before they were all fried to death if the lightening struck.. I could not believe it. The buffet waitress to the right of entering the door was the best service offered. All the others were zombies. We tipped often but we saw 95% don't leave anything. Lots of food to choose from, still gets tiring after few days. I saw the small flies on the fruit pretty much every day..and the bacon not fried so we stayed away from that. Resort stores over priced on everything, way cheaper on the street. Wifi was $2 hour. I purchased 4 -5 cards and 2 cards gave me maybe 10 mins, seemed like the thunderstorms knocked out your mins after you logged in. Again strongly recommend more security to control your customers as Solymar is a compact resort and everything is walking distance in and off resort. 

Melia Las Antillas: A memorable stay !

The resort was well located, simply appointed but clean. The staff was excellent and courteous. Very eager to help in any way possible. The pool and the beach front was close and wonderful. The food was surprisingly delisioso as we were told horror stories about food in the resorts before coming on this trip.

Melia Las Antillas: Better than expected !

We spent 5 nights at Melia las Antillas and this was our first visit ever to Cuba. As such we had tempered our expectations of accommodations and food considerably so perhaps this contributed to our being relatively pleasantly surprised ! We paid the extra for Concierge level service which got us access to a lounge located on the top floor which came in handy in the mornings for early coffee and on the last day where we had a late flight out of Cuba; we were able to rest there in the comfort of  [... read more]Air Conditioning and with access to snacks ( limited in variety and quality ) and drinks. Our room had a very large and very comfortable bed facing a small balcony and a panoramic view of the sprawling resort. We asked for a sea view but the ocean was merely a sliver in the horizon. This resort accesses a wonderful beach but it is at least a 5-10 minute walk away depending on your stride. We travelled with friends and had similar evaluations of our amenities. Everything in our rooms worked - the bathroom had a smallish tub that had seen better days to be charitable but there were ample towels , including beach towels, and bathrobes in the room. The cupboard had a safe which we chose not to use and a bar fridge which was stocked daily with beer and soft drinks. On the second day a full size bottle of gin ( beefeater ), local rum and champagne were placed in the room along with a half a bottle of Chivas Regal ! A very large buffet was available for all meals - it would be more than ample for anyone to find something they could eat and all 4 of us found it actually to be a better option than most of the a la Carte restaurants. Servers are slow to respond to requests for the things that are served at the table and salt and pepper are almost non-existent. We all found the beef to be extremely tough whereas pork and chicken dishes were good. Fish was reasonably good but the prep station for it takes a long time. The only a la carte restaurant we liked was the one called "Romantico" - the food was "haute cuisine" and service very good. We thought the so called lobster-dinner was a farce - it consisted of 4 1/2 inch cross cut pieces of lobster with the shell and all in a tomato sauce of sorts. Everything is heavily salted during prep but no salt/pepper on the table. The resort is sort of "open" to the elements creating pleasant cross breezes most of the time - however : during the rains the hallways become flooded and create a danger for slipping. I probably would list this issue as being the main reason I wouldn't return unless they fix it at some point. Evening entertainment is available on two different terraces every night - we enjoyed it very much.The elevator worked most of the time but there were the odd outages which also affected water flow - though very briefly. One can exchange money at a premium in the hotel and there is also a tuck shop selling the usual holiday stuff as well as some Cuban items - all at a premium. Mostly we found staff to be extremely friendly but for this size of place I suppose there will always be the odd one who snaps or is less than service minded. Inexcusably, though, I found the Sunwing representatives to be extremely impolite and usually unavailable ! Nowhere to be found ! The so called briefing is a complete waste of time and on the last day I particularly was unable to get important departure and pick up information as the binder was missing all together. Do make the time to get off the resort - we arranged our own tours to Havana, Trinidad and into Vardero as well and enjoyed every bit !

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Great Resort

Very friendly staff, not overly crowded, always helpful, reasonable pricing! An amazing relaxing getaway! Just a tip.. If you like Ketchup or pepper bring your own. The maid wrote me a note everyday as I left gifts for her. Made me feel really good to see how appreciative they are.

Iberostar Selection Varadero: Beautiful resort

The grounds exotic flowers and plants, the food great, beaches beautiful, the service excellent and the people very friendly. My family and I enjoyed every moment we were there. Love it will return again.

Palma Real: Great resort

Very clean resort, staff was friendly and very accomidating to your every need, food was good for most of the part but honestly a good barbecued steak back home was well appreciated! No complaints what so ever, great weather, great pools and beach:))

Hotel Los Cactus: Best resort ever!!

For Cuba the hotel is amazing!! Unforgettable experience!! Staff supper friendly and always there to help!! So many amenities and , most speak englis , rooms are clean and lits of space for storage. Beaches are paradise!!

Brisas Del Caribe: Friendly staff

Grounds were well maintained. Food was good and abundant. When in Cuba eat like the Cubans and you will not be disappointed. Leave your red meat desires for another location. Apparently best fresh water in the region on tap.

Starfish Varadero: amazing

Honestly, I loved it! I even went by myself to Cuba. People were friendly, drinks were quick, not to mention that beach is amazing. I would definetly tell go back. The food is average but better then before. Plus for the price you pay totally worth the week on the beach with free drinks !!!
