My husband and I just returned from this resort Sunday. We stayed in the Diamond Club section. Our room was the nicest we have ever had as this was our third time to Cuba. We had the best view of the beautiful ocean, not to mention the two second access to the beach with the bar and the BBQ hut, also a bonus. However, we were not happy with the A La Cartes. The days we tried to eat there, they never had anything we wanted on the menu. We did find the buffet sufficient enough, we certainly didn't[... read more] go hungry. My husband was very happy with the variety of meat. Nothing comes out piping hot but we were just glad to not have to cook. The resort is well laid out and is the perfect size. The pools were the cleanest that we have seen as well. We found the staff to be very friendly, just lovely. All in all we would return to Memories Flemenco.

Hotel Sevilla: A grand old hotel
This hotel build in 1908 is in very good shape including the guest rooms, the lobbies, the gardens and the pool. The decor is very Spanish. The staff we encountered were marvelous. We had 2 lovely notes from the maids. There were different genres of music frequently in the main lobby and at the 9th floor dining room. The staff at reception were very informed when we asked questions. The food was excellent.
The hotel history is fascinating. We were fortunate to have one of the staff give us a[... read more] tour and inform us of the history. Built is 1908 and added on to in the 1920's it has has many reincarnations .... a hospital, a school and accommodated 2 large casinos.
People staying there included the mafia who were running rum to Miami during the US Prohibition. The mafia were very involved in the 2 casinos. Al Capone stayed in room 615 when he was in Havana. General Batista occupied the 9th floor when he was a dictator in Havana. The social and financial conditions of the working people were explained during the rule of Batista and Castro.
We loved ssstaying there and would go back to the Sevilla
The only disappointment was the sporadic hot water.

Villa Marina: Amazing quiet resort
Villa marinera was a peaceful quiet resort with some.wonderful.staff everyone from.the Gardiner to bartender was friendly and went out of their way to make sure your needs were taken care of. You.need to take a boat ride to a nice beach as there is only a marina at hotel.but pool.was spotless and the lounge chairs had very comfortable thick cushions They depend on shipments from cuba to stock.hotel and twice in a week ran out.of red wine but other drinks were available The rooms were clean an[... read more]d nice. Hot water with good water pressure was prob the best I have seen in cuba. Since there were only 22 rooms you got to know all the guests by name and we all sat together at night Our room was the furthest away from pool and dining and at night the paths could be lit.up better but that was my only complaint. If you want a peaceful vacay this is the place. Food is always an issue in cuba but if you are not fussy and a demanding type you will do fine with the buffets

Melia Las Americas: Great resort but not perfect
This was a very nice resort:
Pros: Beautiful beach, not crowded, lots of shaded chairs, clean sand and good drink service. Food choices were very good for Cuba, not known for being a gastronomic destination! Some very sweet staff in the buffet restaurant which offered a nice selection. Helpful staff in reception, especially Paloma in the level upgrade dept. - she made our week by upgrading our room to the bungalow suite. Also I want to mention the staff at the Beach bar are really great and [... read more]friendly.
My friend who looked after the beautiful falcon is a great guy, always fist pumping me whenever we see each other and smiling. That bird is his baby and he takes great care for that precious bird of prey.
Cons: The hotel is 25 years old and showing it. I paid for a premium ocean view room in the main hotel, 4th floor. Opened the door and my wife and I took one whiff and smelled a heavy musty, moldy smell. This room looked like it was frozen in time with mid-eighties decor. The bed was harder then a gurney. Quick trip back to reception as this was not going to cut it for an 8 night stay! Paloma saw our despair ( we were amicable about it and polite about our dismay with the room) she understood and arranged for a change to the bungalow area. One catch, pool area was still under construction but we could make that call. The suite was fabulous, new, fresh, modern, lots of storage, softer bed with double mattresses and a big modern bathroom with walk-in shower and huge rain-head. Sold. That made our trip, and we were happy.
The Robleza restaurant staff are quite unhappy, not friendly and hardly crack a smile. We never felt really welcomed and more of an inconvenience.
Nothing is perfect but the Melia las americas really needs to invest in completely gutting and renovating the main hotel, especially the rooms.
Also, one more item, if you’re looking for dancing, DJ, disco .. good luck! They did have one or two nights themed with some music and DJ but don’t expect much else the rest of the time. Hope golf and beach is your thing, because this hotel offers little then some shows at night that we’re good but repetitive. The dancers were extremely talented and versatile but they need to step up the entertainment variety.
Final verdict:
We probably will never go back to Cuba for a while if ever, but it is a place to get hot sun, sand and beach at a lower cost then other islands. We typically are not overly critical because we know Cuba has problems and restrictions which prohibits them from being truly what they could be .. they are beautiful people with big hearts and work with the resources they have.
I think our evaluation is fair and honest of our experience as paying customers that chose to spend our money and time on a vacation here!

The resort is a good size. Easy to get around. Our bungalow room 4002 was spacious and comfy. Food was just ok and was as expected for Cuba. Not great but we certainly didnt go hungry. Its Cuba. Deal with it and appreciate the hard work the staff puts in.

Villa Bacuranao: LOVE this place !
I've stayed here now as a solo female about 8 times. It is only a 15 min. drive from Havana ~ 5 cent bus, $5 round trip shuttle, or a $10-$15 private taxi.
The pool is amazing and super clean. The beach beside the hotel is pretty nice.
The rooms are VERY basic and the food is bad - but you get what you pay for.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Quaint resort
If your looking for a quiet resort this is the one, the resort is relaxing and peaceful. if your looking to party, head to the pool bar and pool for music, games, and drinks. The lobby bar, sports bar & cigar shop become a social fest after dinner and entertainment. All the bars close at 11pm with the exception of the 24hr snack bar ( party usually moves to the snack bar). If your looking for dancing, there is a discotech around the corner from the resort, it is still on resort grounds and one o[... read more]f the golf carts will take you there and back its a 2 minute walk, really close and safe. staff at the resort are great, social and not pushy, entertainment staff is great they are engaging and light hearted. Food was great there are many stations and selections, you will not go hungry. the snack bar is also great for those late night meals after drinking. the beach is nice, not busy or over crowded just make sure to keep an eye on your towels. there wasn't anything to really complain about, nothing really negative.I would recommend this to a friend, and probably will return the next time i plan on visiting.

Club Amigo Mayanabo: I go there many times BUT
I have to give the hotel a bad review. I know this is only a 3 star but for myself a and friend Frank. We had diarrhea the first week. The food this time was, hard chicken legs, winners, bony pork. The drinks eg. orange juice was something like tang, and many of the same greasy cold cuts. Coffee was bitter I could carry on but I won't. I usually do not complain but this time I will. The trip to Camaguey would have been better . It took over 4 hours on a very bad road to get to Santa Lucia. The[... read more] flight was only 3 hours and 30 minutes !! The top bed sheet had to be put aside as you did not know who sat on it. I found that in the 25 + years that I go there .This was the worst .. The staff were always looking for tips, or they would give you 3d class service or serve someone else that they knew a dollar was coming to them..
This resort is absolutely amazing , the entertainment is Impeccable and the people are absolutely beautiful souls! Favourite place in the world, beaches are beautiful and the resort is very clean! Always had a beautiful view from my room of the beautiful ocean! I would recommend this resort over and over again!

Melia Las Americas: Great Time!
We had a great one week at the resort, the weather was amazing all week (a little windy!), and our room was 30 meters from the ocean! The resort itself was very well kept and clean, and the food was better than at some of the previous resorts we've visited. All in all I give it an 8/10!

Resonance Blu Varadero: best resort yet
We stayed at Memories Varadero and have had amazing time. Here is my and my families experience with this resort for the week that we stayed in Jan.2020.
Resort: Overall it is a bit older resort, but everything in it was functional and good and clean. If you are expecting a 5 star Hollywood royalty kind of resort, then you shouldn’t come to Cuba, as they are not that rich. They do the best that they can with little that they have. My family and I absolutely loved our time and in Cuba and in M[... read more]emories Varadero Resort and would gladly go back any day.
Rooms: As I mentioned above, it is an older resort, and it is humid climate, so the rooms are a bit older, but very comfortable and the housekeeping staff does amazing job at keeping it clean. Our housekeeper Sandra was absolutely priceless. She cleaned our room daily, and had changed our towels and always left something fun made out of towels or covers as a surprise for our 7 year old son.
Food: The food was amazing. You had every meat and fish imaginable. Had over 15 different types of deserts. Ala Cart was super delicious. People say that it lacks taste and seasoning. Well, you always have additional salt and pepper on the table so have at it. If you are a picky eater at home you will for sure be picky here too. My compliments to the chef’s at this resort as they sure do out do them self every day and every meal. My family and I enjoyed the food very much.
Staff: There is no words just how amazing the staff at this resort are. Starting with the check in counter. The ladies there are amazing and are willing to, and have for my family as well as other guests, go above and beyond to make your stay unforgettable one. Then the Sunwing ladies Martha and Evelyn. You have a friend in my son Aidin for life. Then the buffet staff especially Rani and Juan Carlos. You two have made our family feel special, and like a million bucks. You are by far the best wait staff I have ever had the pleasure of being served by. Then the housekeepers. Sandra you are our queen of cleaning and towel puppets. Then the massage therapy guys, Andres and his staff. You guys have no idea how magical your hands are. Best massage I have ever had in my life, and I am speaking for my husband and his mum too. Then the grounds keepers. You guys work so hard every day no matter the temperature outside to make the resort look amazing. They made a cricket out of palm leaf and gave it to my son who couldn’t wait to get it home to show off at his class show and tell. And all the other staff that are for entertainment, and snack bar and kids club, and so many more. You guys and ladies are true customer service professionals. I can’t thank you enough for making our family vacation the best one yet.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: January vacation with children
We really enjoyed ourselves at this resort. This is our 8th time in Cuba. This resort is ranked 4* stars, and comparing to other 4* stars I think it meets that for Cuba, or exceeds it in some areas.
People are so helpful and probably the nicest so far in any resort, place is clean and run well. Hotel Los Cactus: Good but not great
I'll try to be as fair as possible because I did have a good time but there were some bad things too. I've been to Varadero before at another resort so I knew not to expect too much going into it.
We had the garden view suite which was nice, spacious, the bed was huge and there was a little sitting room with a coffee maker, 2 water bottles, and 2 beers in the mini fridge (they change the water bottle when they clean the room). The AC wasn't the most powerful but good enough to keep you cool [... read more]at night. There was also a small patio with a couple chairs where you can sit and smoke a cigars.
The hotel is nicely laid out and clean, the pool is big and really nice surrounded by lounge chairs. There is a snack bar with burgers and hot dogs for when you get hungry between meals (the burgers are really good!). There are 3 bars that I saw, 1 at the lobby, 1 by the pool and 1 by the beach. The bartenders were nice and cheerful (of course they're even nicer when you tip them), and they know how to mix good drinks! I suggest bring one of those big cups with a lid and straw that you can buy at the dollar store before you go so you're not using their little disposable plastic cups every time you get a drink, they'll fill it right up for you, it'll stay cold for longer, and you can get more in one go than you would from their cups.
The dining area was really nice and big. The food was decent, some really good, some pretty meh, and a couple times there were some salads that tasted like they were going bad, but overall I liked the food.
There was some decent variety during every meal though a lot of it was the same every time.
The servers were mostly really nice and may stop to chat with you when its not too busy. There's cats that wander into the dining area which most people seemed to think it was charming and would give them bits of food here and there, they don't pester you or try to steal your food, they mostly just hang out, my girlfriend thought it was adorable though I had to keep reminding her not to pet them because you don't know where they've been lol.
The highlight for me was the beach! Lazy chairs all along with some "beds", big palm leaf umbrellas for shade, the sand is white sand and super smooth, the water has small waves that are fun to splash around in. I spent the majority of my time laying on a lazy chair sipping piña coladas or rum and cokes.
The atmosphere at the resort is really chill and its nice that there's no kids running around screaming. There was some live music during meals at the dining area from time to time, really talented musicians which was really appreciated.
They also play music by the beach bar during the day though I wish they would have more variety than "La vida es un carnaval" by Celia Cruz, and endless versions of Guantanamera.
As for the bad, it ranged from mildly inconvenient, to annoying, to just unacceptable.
Our shower curtain kept falling off because it wasn't screwed to the wall. Most of the bathroom stalls throughout the resort had broken doors (as in they either didn't close all the way or there was no latch to keep it closed).
The power outlets in the rooms are the kind that only have 2 prongs, my laptop charger has 3 but we found that there was this electrical converter box (I don't know what the technical term would be) that is used to connect the mini fridge as the power cord on the fridge is 3 pronged, so I would use that to charge my laptop, though I don't know if its the same in every room.
Some of the staff was really rude and I don't understand how they work in the hospitality industry.
The worst experience I had though was one night when we called the lobby for a couple of towels, we had been out all day and kept the "do not disturb" sign on the door while we were out because we didn't feel like we needed the room cleaned that day. We called the lobby around 8pm to ask for a couple of clean towels. 15 minutes went by and still no towels, I called the lobby to ask what was happening and I got a really terse "ok I'll tell them again" response from the lobby. Another 15 went by, at this point we realized there was a puddle of water on the floor by the bed coming from a closet. We opened the closet and it was full of black mold and a mess of hoses, one of the hoses was dripping water so we put a towel underneath for the time being. I called the lobby again to tell them about it and they just assumed I was calling about the towels so before I even said anything she said that they would tell the maid about the towels again, I had to cut her off before she hung up to tell her about the leak. She sounded like she couldn't care less and said she would send someone. Again another 15 went by and I called them again, at this point I'm really annoyed because we just want to get on with our night but we have to wait for them to come, how hard is it to bring over a couple of towels! Finally AN HOUR after we first called for the towels they show up, I told the girl that brought them that what had taken so long and she said something along the lines of "well if you want your towels changed you shouldn't leave the "do not disturb" sign on"... which was completely irrelevant to me asking for towels now! Anyways after multiple calls and the maid radioing them about the leak, the repair man finally showed up, I'm assuming he didn't speak English because another maid came with him to translate (I speak Spanish so I spoke with them in Spanish), at no point did the repair man say hello or acknowledge i was there, and the maid looked like she was annoyed by all this, as if I was being a bother. The whole time she didn't say anything to us, she had her arms crossed and had her knee on the bed while the repair man looked at the leak. It turned out it was some kind of condensation coming from the AC which he drained and left, then the maid came back with a mop and mopped up the water and left, closing the door behind her. They had left the door to the closet open and the towel on the floor. I went outside to ask them if they were done and they said yes, I told them "well you could have at least told us!" and closed the door on them. That ruined the rest of my night because of how mad I was at the poor service and their attitude. The next day the hose was dripping again so we put a towel under it. I called the lobby to tell them and they said they would send someone, we left to go to the beach assuming they would fix it while we were out but when we came back there was no sign anyone had been there and the drip continued. At this point we just gave up and put a towel under the drip and left it.
So all in all this is a nice hotel but there's things they can do to improve which shouldn't take too much effort, you would expect to be able to close a bathroom stall at a 4 star hotel when all it would take to fix would be installing a new latch. Most of all, the quality of service and attitude from staff is what put a damper on my experience. I would personally not come back here just because there are a lot of other resorts in the area to choose from, but who knows, maybe your experience will be different.

Gran Caribe Sun Beach: Sunbeach-2.5*
Basic accommodations at an unbeatable price.
Not luxurious by any stretch but bug free with comfortable bed.
Buffet had a terrible stench but snack bar served decent sandwiches and lots of cheap local restaurants nearby.
Can't complain- so close to the beach and local activities.
