Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: Pretty Good Overall

Nice resort, rooms were comfy except for the shower that leaked onto the bathroom floor had to use the tub instead. TV was adequate and clear pictures Lots of areas to walk around and well taken care of gardens. Food was much better than expected for cuba and they did a fantastic job on the valentines day spread. The beach was a bit dissapointing not a lot of sand area to spread out, everyone cramed in side by side on a hot day. Dissapointed there was no beach side buffet just a sitdown wait [... read more] to be served restaurant by the beach, not a beach friendly resort. Pool area was fairly big and they bring sunshades if you need one, 24hr snack bar which really isnt 24hrs more like 12 hour so if your a late arriver no place to catch a meal. We didnt see much music or activity around the pool untill late afternoon each day so bring your own entertainment. 30 minute bus ride into downtown varadero very safe and fun double decker bus only 5 cuc for the whole day, hop on hop off. Best prices at the market for souvenirs and liquor at the americas mall.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: A resort for everyone!!

Overall a very good resort. Activities for all ages and good entertainment. Very busy as this resort is typically booked out so be patient with A La carte wait times.Always buffet if you don't want to wait. Be sure to read your room directory as there are charges you may not be used to. i.e. only 2 beer per day in mini fridge. pay extra for more restocking. Late check out is $10 USD per hour however some people were not charged. We paid $2 USD per day environmental tax. Seemed a little more t [... read more]han the 25 pesos per day regulated by the government. There were some theft issues around the pool.( cell phone, sun glasses). Watch your stuff. Other charges: calls from room, room service after 11pm etc. Overall a great resort. Just learn what the extras cost.

Playa Vista Azul: The resort wasn’t the greatest!!

I was NOT to pleased with the food at all. I got very sick and throw up 4 of 7 days at the resort. I don’t know if it was the food or drinks. I am Not a heavy alcohol drinker, by any means. But when whenever I would have a tropical drink, I would get sick to my stomach. It didn’t matter what the drink was. Personally, I didn’t have a problem with our maid, she was very helpful to any of our needs, but my sister in law never had clean towels or had the sheets changed. The resort would  [... read more]always run out of clean glasses and plates. Very poor food selection. We didn’t have any hot water when we arrived at the resort,. Yes the problem was rectified, but two days before leaving we had the same problem. The resort never had any clean pool towels. We used the same towel for almost 6 straight days. Besides all we went through, the only best thing about the resort, was the beautiful beach and weather...thank God for that. I would NOT ever return to this resort nor recommend it to friends and family. I love Cuba and would return to it, but not to stay at Ocean Vista Azul.

Ocean Coral Riviera Cancun: Clean and Quiet Resort

We visited Ocean Coral at the beginning of February for 7 days. The resort is really close to the airport (about 20 minutes) which was a big selling feature for us. Here are a few other reasons we enjoyed our stay: -rooms, restaurants and grounds were immaculate - large selection of food to choose from - no matter where you are, you are close to the beach - the view from the Privilege restaurant for breakfast was beautiful! - we were quite close to Puerto Morelos for shopping - excellent [... read more] room service which is included with Privilege - really enjoyed the Creperie -very impressed with the wifi performance from the hotel right to the beach!! Some things we did not like: - the relentless sales approach for their time share. They will tell you it is not time share...but it is! Their "free shopping excursion" and "special breakfast" is simply another sales tactic. It was not worth us losing a day away for a sales pitch. - while the staff cleaning the beach of sargussum our first few days was diligent, they became neglectful midway into the trip All and all this was a lovely belated honeymoon. We experienced good and bad service (to be expected) This is a solid 4 star resort. As a side note, we had the most amazing agent we have ever come across! Thank you Jill Klacza for your patience and help with planning and booking our trip!

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: Fun time

We did have fun and staff was great. Suggest upgrading to privilege. Food in pricilage was amazing but buffet was awful and im not a picky eater. We did have issues with not having towels and not being able to get fresh beach towels. There is nowhere to exchange them on the grounds like other resorts. To get a new beach towel you have to leave your towel in your room and the maid would exchange them if there were enough. Ocean Coral Spring: Wait a little while

The resort will be very nice when It is completed, currently I would rate it as a 3.5 star as it is still in the very early stages of being ready for guest. The food was very delicious but limited in variety for now. The workmanship in the rooms and buildings need to be cleaned up and it is sloppy. The pool is gorgeous. The beach is beautiful although it’s not ideal yet for swimming. The massages were great but very expensive for the 80 minutes that you get. The employees were very nice and tried to be accommodating, but being so newly trained they didn’t seem to have the answers to questions as simple as making a reservation for dinner. You are told you don’t need a reservation but yet when you go to a restaurant you are told you have to wait 45 minutes to an hour. One reason was the privilege guest take priority and you are set to the side to wait. All in all out of ten I would rate this so far a 7. It was unanimous with the group I travelled with was we wouldn’t return to this resort, but it was definitely worth visiting while the price was fairly decent.

Ocean Coral Riviera Cancun: Okay resort but would not return

Pools are nice beach ok but lots of seaweed. Biggest problem is trying to go to alacart restaurant's they tell you that you have to wait up 2 hours to get in or not available at all then suggest you go to the buffet which is not the greatest. Rooms are dated and could use some work.The other problem is getting pool chairs need to be up at 6am to get a good spot all chairs are gone by 7:30. Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: It's the people and service that make El Patriarca good

Review of Ocean Varadero El Patriarca It's amazing to find people so happy, helpful and kind. Everyone from the reservation clerks, chamber maids, ground keepers, waiters , bar tenders went out of their to make you comfortable. Our chamber maid, China, was a wealth of information. She took the time to guide you on trips and was willing to go the extra mile to make sure you are comfortable and happy with the service. Our room was kept pristine and with adequate supplies. The ground keepers were polite and made little baskets and decorated flowers with coconut branches and offered to the ladies. Mike’s coffee house was always busy with a variety of coffee and pastries. They make an excellent café Patriarca laded with rum. The ladies were always at your service smiling and having conversation with the customers. The food was excellent with local delicacies such as cassava, fried plantains, beans and pork in different forms and many other dishes. It gives you the feel of the Caribbean. The beach restaurant is highly recommended for lunch. Excellent service, fantastic people and good choice. I enjoyed the catch of the day. Local musician from 7-9, Piano bar until 11, shows nightly and variety of drinks from the bar. Avoid sitting next to guests who are there only to get drunk. Date of stay: February 2020

Hotel Roc Casa del Mar: Amazing resort!!!!

We had an amazing, relaxing stay at Ocean casa del mar. The staff were very friendly, the food was great and the atmosphere was wonderful! We can honestly say that we were a bit sad leaving to go back home. We will definitely be returning in the near future!

Playa Vista Azul: Relaxing vacation with family

amazing trip! I travelled to varadero with my 13 year old son and wife. We did Havana premium trip(all day)$90USD adult, $72 child with lunch snack and dinner,. just so worth while. I don't usually do reviews but i read them and they are important. We stayed at Ocean Vista Azul, block 7 it's not a 5 star hotel that you are accustomed to in Canada,Vegas or anywhere else, but it's clean and modern hotel, our room had huge walk-in shower, soap bars and shampoo, mini fridge was re-stocked with soft [... read more] drinks, beer and battle water, TV offer some english channel choices. I'm a huge fan of the ocean and beach in Cuba, but Caya Coco has much nicer sand. Food- the buffet - we did for 6 days, there's a lot of food: pork, fish, chicken, lamb, seafood. there was even langoste and lobster tails, don't recommend beef- could be very tough to bite-on. Getting into a la carte restaurant (limoncello italian) was not worth it, huge lineup and in my opinion not much better than the pasta in the buffet, very small portions tip your housekeeper, she's the one who keeps your room clean your beach towel- no, you might not get another one for the week, but it's okay, it's cuba. have an open mind, and you will have fun, remember, you came to cuba for only one thing, THE BEACH. This hotel has one smaller beach to the left and main beach 5-10 min walk with activities to the right. enjoy.

Ocean Coral Riviera Cancun: Excellent resort!

Great size resort to get around with only 500+ rooms, no need for a shuttle. The staff is friendly and hard working. All common spaces were well maintained and the rooms were nicely laid out and a great size. Excellent kids club/pool area and only steps to the beach. Really good food at the buffet. The a la carte restaurants were good nice for the experience, but the buffet food was better quality. I would return to this resort for sure!

Playa Vista Azul: WAS OK

Rooms were nice, our maid was very warm and welcoming Lobby was very nicely laid out, great view of ocean, infinity pool was very picturesque Lobby bar was good although their tropical drinks all tasted the same Their was a maid there that was awesome, with the entertainment in the lobby she danced and what moves she had, everyone was in awe of her. Grounds were nicely kept and very clean Pool was nice size not enough sun umbrellas, the covered cabanas were very dirty and uninviting Fo [... read more]od was ok, but the buffet restaurant was very disorganized, poor service other than a few outstanding servers. no teaspoons, had to wait for plates,glasses etc. dining experience was nothing to brag about. Ocean Riviera Paradise: Great Vacation

We enjoyed every aspect of the resort. Beautiful grounds, very well kept up and clean. The Privilege package was all we expected and some more. Fast and pleasant check in and check out. We loved our room, spacious, clean, well equipped with all that we needed (including jets tub outside and another one in the bathroom). Bed was very comfortable. Privilege building is very close to the beach and having a designated beach area was great. Privilege restaurant was amazing. Service and food were both [... read more] up to par. There are some rocks in the water so water shoes are very useful. A la carte restaurants were very good. Not the greatest experience at the Japanese restaurant for us but Blue Moon and Steak House were great. We think that Privilege restaurant was the best of all but we did not go to La Locanda and the Mexican restaurant so we cannot review those two.The evening shows were good but the day entertainment wasn't as good as we thought will going to be. All in all a very good vacation.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Great family vacay!

We were 3 generations with diverse ages. 50,28,14,8 We had a room in the Daisy area garden view. The housekeeping all week was amazing. Left us towel animals which was awesome. Our balcony had a swing which we all enjoyed & 2 chairs. The room had 2 queens, pull out couch (we never used) We never felt cramped. 2 large closets. Our fridge was always stocked with water, pop, chocolate milk, beers and snacks. We never had to request refills. Buffet had so many options that the first night w [... read more]e were overwhelmed with choices. This continued to be that way for breakfast, lunch or dinner. You had the regular go to’s but they always had fresh, make as you wait, stations. One night, two of us went to the adult only restaurant Bluemoon. Was amazing. Loved the creme brûlée. We did the Japanese restaurant. This was the only restaurant that required a reservation. The kids enjoyed the show. We also tried the steak house but preferred the steak from Bluemoon. We saw the performance of the lion king. Very well done. Lunches were spent either at the beach restaurant or the kids pool area snack bar. However Eden pool also has crepes which are yummy. The shuttle up and down the hotel property is a great added bonus when you are carrying towels & beach things. The ocean was beautiful. No seaweed. We were never hounded by people selling excursions or items. Just a quick no thank you and they continued on. The service by the Air Canada & Best Day team on site was awesome. Thank you Hector for making sure we booked the right excursions or answered any questions we had. The professional photos are expensive If you take all during your stay but if you pick your favourites, and bring the package down, the photos are so worth it. The bartenders at the swim up, lobby, beach were very respectful and entertaining. Once they knew you, they would know exactly what drink to make you next. Even for the minors.

Ocean Coral Riviera Cancun: Relaxing and laid back resort

A friend and I stayed at OCT for a week. At the advice of my travel agent, we did not upgrade to ‘Privilege’. The room and resort on a whole were quite clean. We did not have trouble getting into any of the a la carte restaurants since we ate early and were there for 6 pm or shortly after. We especially enjoyed our dinner at Terraza D’Italia, Luis Trevino was an excellent host. The steak and veal were cooked to perfection. We also enjoyed eating at Sensai. WiFi was great throughout the res [... read more]ort, even by the pools and was complimentary which I hear is a bonus since a friend stayed at another resort nearby the same week and had to pay $30 USD for three days for spotty WiFi. The only suggestion I have is that the public washrooms near the pools be renovated to a bit larger cubicles, they were narrow and awkward. They could have been cleaned a little more frequently during peak hours of use.

Ocean El Faro: Very Large Resort

A very clean resort everywhere, grounds, lobby, rooms are well kept and maintained. Front desk staff appeared not to be very well trained, and not prepared to registered new arrivals. (A lot of confusion when checking in. We were unexpectedly told to go to the bar after waiting sometime and that they will bring our room key to us which did not happen. After a while we pursued a front desk clerk and asked the whereabouts of our key.) The in room fridge was not stocked as advertised. We had to  [... read more]chase down housekeeping personnel to get it filled. The pools were very nice with sturdy lounge chairs but lack of umbrellas. Pool bar service was also very good. The food was generally very good. Lots of variety, lots of fruit a good selection of desserts. The buffet was well serviced by the hostesses and bus staff. They were very friendly and accommodating. Hotel staff went over and above expectations for a Super Bowl Party with food, beverages and a 25 foot outdoor TV set up in the main plaza. Excellent job! Beach was a huge disappointment. It is basically the width of the hotel property and the water is very rough due to the nearby coral reef. Not like the Bavaro beach where you can walk for miles. The H10 Time Share representatives were quite persistent and annoying but if you quickly set them straight they do back off.

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: Ocean veradero El Patriarca

The resort itself is very nice with nice rooms and excellent grounds. They still have a problem with insufficient towels, which has been a problem with them for years. They are a little lax with the stocking of fridges and the room cleaning is hit and miss. The food is satisfactory.

Hotel Roc Casa del Mar: Decent resort, incredible beach area

It's an average Cuban hotel, with average food, the snack bar isn't as good as we were hoping. The staff is awesome, they definitely made our time enjoyable there. The entertainment crew could be a lot better, they weren't as engaging as we were used to in the past at different resorts.
