Starfish Jibacoa: Great spot, fantastic people

April 22-29 was the 4th trip her for my husband and I and we loved every minute of it as usual. The location is beautiful and peaceful. The people make you feel right at home and truly become your friends. I think that when you see the same staff year after year and they are happy to be there and happy to see you it says a lot about the location. The food selection may be limited but it is plentiful and tastes good so you wont go hungry. The rooms may be dated and in need of some updating but th [... read more]ey are spacious and clean. Since our last visit there have been upgrades to the common areas which are nice to see. As usual, I cant wait to go back.

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: Great Stay

Beach, grounds and pool were fantastic. Food was pretty good for Cuba. Staff was friendly, and the Piano bar was such a hit. Rooms need some spring cleaning (Grout work, chips in dressers). Only complaint, Beds and pillows were lacking and fairly uncomfortable.

Hotel Los Cactus: Great times!!

Some would consider a bump to a different hotel a disadvantage but we spent our first 2 nights at Hotel Bella Costa next door then moved to Breezes Varadero so we got to experience both hotels! Bella Costa was perfect, beautiful, more entertainment, best outdoor pizza oven but Breezes Varadero, even though not ocean view (and quieter) was beautiful in it's own way... lush gardens, friendly staff, nicely shaded Jacuzzi bar with awesome pina colados!! Hotel Villa Cuba: fantasic place

there was nothing to complain about, everything was great , the food the place and the people where great, I would go again, next time the whole family while go(maybe a little longer to) fun in the sun life doesn't get better than this

Palma Real: Good value...great location

Received a welcome drink on arrival while we were waiting to check in. Check in time was quick. Pools clean. Room very clean - hot water available, air conditioner worked, blow dryer worked, attentive maid service every day, plenty of towels. Lots of healthy different food, fresh grilled fish every day, no processed junk food here, i.e. French fries. Close to Beatles Club for nightly entertainment and renowned Varadero beach. Great excursions available. Fourth time here... want to go again!

Hotel Los Cactus: Overall pretty good for Cuba and Breezes

The only thing I did not like was we got bumped out and shipped next door for 3 days to the little dump Bella Costa. They overbooked their rooms....how does that happen?? There were 30 rooms approximately affected. Was not happy and is the only reason I would hesitate to rebook there.

Hotel Villa Cuba: excellent hotel and staff

the villas were the best when travelling with a group,staff was the best ,resort was very clean if there was a downfall is the dinner buffets could be better.transat rep was always there to help and answer any questions

Muthu Playa Varadero: Overall Great Resort

Overall the resort was great. The buffets were really good and had a great selection. The a la carte restaurants not so great. The staff was very helpful and there was always plenty to do with regards to planned activities and entertainment. I would return there for sure.

Melia Marina Varadero: great hotel

rooms very clean , service was prompt and courteous, ala cartes were great, evening shows were good ,especially the animal show for the children. the stores and shops nearby were easily accessible with an excellent cigar bar

The food was great and lots of choices Always lots of seats and no huge lines The entertainment at this resort is some of the best I have experienced on any of the trips I have taken The staff were very firiend ly and always willing to help. Muthu Playa Varadero: 2nd Time and going back!!!!!!!

Just got back from our second time at Playa De Oro and loved it just as much as the first time. The staff even remembered us from our first visit which was over a year ago. We were made to feel welcomed and appreciated and can really find nothing of substance to actually complain about. Keep up the great work guys !!!!!! I'LL BE BACK !!!!!!!

Barcelo Solymar: Close to Town

There are 2 resorts on the the same grounds, so it's quite spacious.The beach was awesome! We stayed in one of the bungalows which was nice and quiet and closer to the ocean. The grounds are well kept. The hotel is showing its age to some degree but everything was clean. The food choices were decent. The 2 a la carte restaurants we dined at were ok but not amazing. Everyone who worked there (front desk, restaurant, groundskeepers, bartenders) was friendly, helpful and polite. It's rated as a 5 s [... read more]tar but I would say it's more like a 3 star (apparently Cuba is well known for this). The location was our main reason for choosing Barcelo Solymar. It's a 2 minute walk to the town of Varadero and it's safe. We had no hassles walking from one end of town to the other. I'm not a big drinker, so I prefer quality over quantity (some resorts offer upgrades). The alcohol choices were pretty grim (lots of cheap rum and vodka) and the resort ran out of 1 of their 2 brands of beer. If you plan to spend most of your time outside and like to wander off the resort, then I would recommend it.

Muthu Playa Varadero: Disappointed

This was our 9th trip to Cuba, but our first to this resort. Although requesting a queen bed & being assured by the hotel we could have one, we were given a room with twin This was our 9th trip to Cuba, but our first to this resort. Although requesting a queen bed & being assured by the hotel we could have one, we were given a room with twin beds on arrival. There was water constantly dripping from the ceiling along the corridor outside our room on the third floor, leaving puddles on the ceramic [... read more] tiles which made for very slippery walking. On the third day, the resort did allow us to switch to a room in another building with a king bed which we appreciated. The maid service was good, but the towels were hardly ever changed so we would put ours outside on the balcony chairs to air out. We had to fight with the lock on the door most of the time and usually had to insert the card several times before it would work. Mid-week the card stopped working completely and we could not access the safe or the door, so had to go to the lobby to have it reprogrammed. We never before had any problem with food or water in Cuba, however we both ended up with diarrhea and stomach troubles which lasted for most of the 2 weeks we were there. There was one bottle of water provided in our room on check-in, but after getting sick, we bought our water at the store every day. In regard to the food, we found the meat often under cooked, yet the cooked vegetables were mushy and the fresh vegetables were limited and poor quality. The juice was watered down and the variety of fruits was limited. The bread and rolls were good, but there was only one toaster with long lineups each morning, and on the last few mornings, the toaster had been removed completely. At nearly every meal, we would have to ask for something, whether it be butter or dishes that had run out. One server rudely turned me away from the station where she was standing when I asked for a spoon (even though they were sitting right there and there were none on our table) and made me wait at our table until someone brought one to me some time later. There were two coffee machines at the buffet, but often only one was working. The desserts at the buffet were very attractive and there was a good variety. There was often a line-up of guests outside the buffet waiting for people to leave so they could find seating. Although entitled to 2 a la carte meals each week, we were only able to get a total of 3 reservations over the 2 weeks we were there. The International was good although the steaks were very rare despite asking for “medium” and the server did not come back to ask if the meal was acceptable. Most of the steak was left on the plate. The Italian a la carte consisted of soup and pasta or pizza which was the same as offered at the buffet. The burgers, hot dogs and ham and cheese subs at the pool bar were decent and the service was very good. We found the meat at the beach barbecue was often raw or rare and the cooked vegetables were served cold. Although the lobby desk exchanged currency, they seldom had single pesos, which discouraged tipping in the way which we were accustomed to. Even the bank in Varadero could not supply pesos. There are not enough chairs or shaded huts on the beach to accommodate all the guests, and to secure a spot requires getting up at 6 a.m. to put a towel on a chair. We noted several people marking multiple chairs to have some in the shade and some in the sun. Often, the marked chairs were not used, yet people who wanted a chair could not have one, but there was no one from the resort overseeing what was happening. It took several days to figure out how early you needed to go to secure a chair. The local vendors were constantly yelling and parading their wares up and down the beach, often close to the beach chairs, and the security people ignored them instead of making them keep their distance. The main evening entertainment did not start until 10 o’clock, which was too late for us. We enjoyed watching the children’s mini disco from 7:30 to 8:00, but personally did not enjoy the lobby entertainment that followed. On check-out day we were allowed to keep our room for an extra 4 hours, until 4 o’clock, at a cost of 25 pesos. The rep had informed us of this option at our orientation, however, on departure day, we found out it was at the hotel’s discretion whether or not guests could do this depending on when the next guests for the room was scheduled to arrive. Many guests were not able to keep their room past noon even though they were willing to pay. We do not intend to return to this resort and would not recommend it.

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: Nice resort

Nice resort, with nice clean rooms. Front desk staff could have been friendlier. Quality of drinks was so-so. Buffet was ok but the a la cartes were very good. Pool was nice and clean, but most of the pool chairs had broken backs - really need to be updated.

Playa Caleta: My vacation to the Punterana in Cuba

Resort was clean and staff very friendly, but resort in need of many repairs. Food was ok but could have been better with more variety. Also more toiletries and linens should be supplied. For what we paid to come here it was a good time.

Club Kawama: Another great vacation

Club Kawama is the perfect resort if you want an inexpensive beach vacation in Varadero. It is the oldest resort in Varadero, but has recently gone through some renovations. It is on a beautiful long stretch of beach. This is not a 5 star resort, so don't stay there if you are expecting 5 star amenities. However, if you want an inexpensive beach holiday without all of the bells and whistles, this is a great choice. I've been there 10 times, and plan to return again.

Starfish Cuatro Palmas: Favorite place i!

This was our third time to this resort and every time it gets better. The long sandy beach is beautiful for the beach walkers . The food is very good , was happy with the variety and quality . I believe staff must all be working on customer service as it was so much better than last year in every way . Bartenders didn't take the course though , I guess they are so overworked it didn't seem to matter how much you tipped them , they didn't give you any notice the next time . Don't go to this resort if you want a luxury room , it will be clean , your bed will be good and you will have warm water for your shower everyday . The reason we go here is when you walk out the front of the resort you feel the rhythm of Cuba , as you are walking out to the main street of Veradaro. Calle 62 across the street amazing music at night , restaurants down the street , great lobster .Beatiful old cars like you've never seen before , horse and buggy cart taxis clip clopping down the street , it's a special experience . You are never hassled to buy anything by merchants or people on the street . I always feel so safe . Best place to experience Cuba in my opinion !

Hotel Villa Cuba: Eclectic

Although in need of updating this quaint unique resort captured our hearts...the villa with its own pool was great!!! Would love to go with friends and stay in a villa together. Good was average but always found some tasty stuff to eat.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: all we needed

Lots of bars food and right in town great day trip to havana the beach and ocean were beautiful horse and carriage rides and vintage cabs beatles bar a must at least once Sunwing representative s were a great help
