Memories Jibacoa: Excellent Resort.

This is a picturesque, clean resort with a friendly hard working staff. The grounds are well groomed, the buildings in good repair and our room spotless. The food was good although a little repetitious during lunch time. The pool was a fun area with plenty of space. The beach was good although a little hard for older folks getting in and out of the water due to a drop off. If you like to snorkel this the place for you with close reefs and tropical fish. Starfish Varadero: Great April Vacation

Have been to this resort in the past. There have been some changes since last there. The addition of a second bar in the lobby was a good choice. We stayed in the Bungalow section which was a good choice. Very convenient to the swimming pool, buffet beach etc. Could always find something to eat. The breakfasts are always excellent. Was convenient having a restaurant closer to the beach and also the little beach bar served sandwiches burgers and hotdogs. Of course the beach was wonderful. The poo [... read more]l was wonderful. The maid service was top-notch. Would definitely return and suggest to other people.

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: very nice place.

the ground we very well keep we enjoyed the pool the beech was good and you could walk a long way enjoyed the resterants the one near the pool the buffet the entertament the rooms very roomy the staff were nice it was such a grat holiday

Sol Varadero Beach: Cuba is for the beach!

I've been to Cuba 5 times, second time at Sol Sirenas, like I said you go to for the beach! Hotels are always run down, food is passable - actually this time the Al la Cartes were absolutely great! As for the hotel, towels were short, always had to ask for them. Enjoyed our room as we had water pressure and the air conditioning worked perfectly. Would I go back well I hear they are renovating but not sure yet.

Palma Real: Great Resort

This was a great resort, the ground were beautiful. The rooms were nice, good size, and clean. The food was good, with a large selection, we brought some spices with us but did not us them, there was a lot of dishes that we didn't what they were, so you had to try them, most of them were good. Great swim up bar and 3 other pools to use. Beach was great, just a 2 min. walk, once there you didn't have to leave because they had their own bar and food service on the beach. Hotel Los Cactus: Awesome

Your vacation is what you make it. Superclub Breezes Varadero is like having a huge back yard. Relax or make it exciting!. I've never had a problem doing both at this resort. Swimming, dancing, socializing, relaxing, etc. Varadero is a stone's throw away and Havana a comfortable 2 hour drive. I rented a car and ventured to Havana ... I loved every minute of the freedom and the breathtaking views!

Hotel Los Cactus: Horrible food

There was bad smell in the food serving area. Unsufficient water pressure, at times no water at all. Not enough chairs on the beach, no shades. There were flies and ants on the uncovered fruits in the serving area. Not enough staff in the dinning area to attend to everyone.

Villa Tortuga: Mediocre

Been to many resorts in Cuba and never have high expectations. Chose this resort due to tripadvisors recent good reviews. Food was horrendous! I don't like rice but ate it everyday as it was probably the best and safest option. Some of the dessert was ok but that's it. Most of the staff were rude. In fact one security guard was very inappropriate making lewd comments towards my friend and I as well as my sister! He should be fired. Only 3 or 4 were pleasant out of their entire staff. The rest lo [... read more]oked at you as an inconvenience. Brought lots of money to tip and presents for the staff. I gave nice gifts everyday to our maid and tipped who deserved it. I gave the rest of everything else to a very deserving woman and her children I met outside of the resort on my last night. The Beach was nice but hardly any lounge chairs and people were so rude taking 4 chairs to themselves...2 under a palapa and 2 in the sun. Really people? Are you that lazy that you can't drag your lounge chai 5 feet? People would put there towels on a chair and not be there sometimes all day long! So rude. The rooms looked like something out of Cold War Russia. A few cockroaches in the room and animals in the celling. Good A/C until it broke. The front desk was great and had it fixed within 20 min. I have to give them that. Would I go again? Nope. Go to Roc Arenas Doradas, Trip or Melia properties.

Palma Real: Great location, amazing staff!

This was my first trip to Cuba and the Palma Real was a great place to stay. it is an older resort and it shows it places but the staff are wonderful and more than make up for the hotel. the hotel is well located with the beach, shopping, restaurants and bars all within easy walking distance. I will defiantly be returning.

Villa Tortuga: Not what i expected

The resort itself is small and easy to get around however, it is not what I had expected. The room I had was clean but the bed was very uncomfortable and the air conditioning didn't work well through the night which is basically when you're in your room. When I first used the shower, a leech also was trying to have one.....I don't know who was more shocked! I just took the shower head and washed him down the drain.....not a good start. When on "vacation" you don't want to have to wake up really early however unless I did, I would never have gotten a beach lounger. I was up at 6:30 every morning and when getting to the beach, all the better lounge chairs were already taken by people saving them with their beach towels! The same thing goes for the pool loungers. Some people took a lounger for the sun and one under a pallapa.....not fair but what are you going to do. It was very handy to the Varadero strip where you could either walk it or take the double decker bus for 5 pesos hop on hop off all day. For the most part it was OK but not a hotel I'll return to.

Villa Tortuga: Wasn't the best for my first time in Cuba

The rooms weren't the best there were cockroaches, at night the sewer would back up at time and stink out the room, when you walked by the pool area all you smelt was sewer, the beach was nice if you got their night and early to get a beach chair....very hard to get a chair of you not there at 7am, the food was disgusting the first two days than it got a little better but still not great, was good being so close to downtown varadero got to see a lot of the way they live, the staff were ok but in [... read more] all honesty the atmosphere of the whole resort they seemed "snobby" like they were watching your every mood, felt very out of place at times I could go on and on but I'd write a novel just thought I'd give the low down

Hotel Los Cactus: Amazing stay at the breezes

We stayed at the breezes from April 6 to the 13th. The staff at this resort was amazing they were always there to help. The grounds were always kept clean. The rooms were big and always clean with fresh towels everyday and a large bottle of water was in your room everyday. We are planning to go back next April to see all are new friends that we met

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: 2nd Excellent visit to Royalton Hicacos

Beautiful beach always a place to sit. Pool area very nice tropical feel because of the trees etc. Lots of enertainment, music everywhere. Food was good staff were friendly. After two trips to this resort not one complaint. Would go back again.

Roc Barlovento: Excellent Resort- Adult only

I like the service/staff were wonderful, Grounds kept very clean/, Beach was good/Food was great then any place I have being in other Cuba resorts/some rooms were renovated but still need to work on rooms/ Great Adult resort/ close to Markets/Pools were clean. Restaurants were clean. Bars were just great and available great service.

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: Beautiful resort

Royalton Hicacos is a true 4 star resort. Very clean and well laid out. Our room was in the Diamond Club section. As you entered there was an upper level with upholstered bench seating around 2 walls and 2 steps down to the bedroom area with a balcony overlooking the gardens. We needed 2 beds, instead of replacing the king size bed, they put a single bed on the upper level where the seating area was. This worked out fine for us. On the grounds, all  [... read more]building were connected with elevated walkways that cross crossed a series of cement canals that were no longer used. These may have been left from when this was a Sandals resort, but now are mostly empty. Unfortunately they detract a bit from the otherwise inviting local. They should either be filled in or filled with water as they used to be. The main pool is large and clean and has a swim up bar. Lots of places to lounge around both in sun and shade. There are 2 smaller pools at the opposite end of the resort. The beach is beautiful, very clean and quite long. Divided into 3 parts with water sports at one end, restaurant and bar area in the middle and Diamond Club access at the far end. Lots of loungers and sunshades available. The resort staff are very good and anxious to please, be it cleaning, restaurant or front desk. The food in every restaurant was good, lots of choice no matter what you were looking for. I recommend going diamond club if you can as you get options like restaurant reservations, premium drinks and seating areas in the buffet along with a butler to look after you and seperate beach access with its own bar. The only negative was the lack of Internet access. You had to buy a card good for 1 hour for 3 pesos. You could only use it in the lounge and reception was better in some parts than others. If you can get along with out it fine, but if you need to check your email and such it was a pain. We heard other lesser resorts had wifi for free so I think this is an area that needs to improve. Other than that, highly recommend Royalton Hicacos.

Club Kawama: Club Kawama Cuba

It was what i paid for 3 stars. The buffet was small and very busy,limited of thing to pick from. The sank bar down to the far end of the resort had the best food. The beach area at this end had the most room and seats. The the staff were great, the front dusk staff where not friendly The bathroom could be cleaner and the two beds where not a king beds.Over all I had a good time, you get what you pay for 3 stars .

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Would not return to the Melia Peninsula Varadero!

We booked through Tripcentral who were very helpful and friendly to the Melia Peninsula Varadero from April 6-13, 2016 out of Halifax. Maybe it was an off week or something else is going on at this resort but the first time in 10 years of travelling to Cuba I would not return to a resort even if it were free. The flight and transfer with Air Transat was great. Arrived at hotel around 4 but our room wasn’t ready so we head out to get a drink and check out the beach…. We finally get to our ro [... read more]om (Building 27) around 6 pm but only to find it had no towels and it smelled like sewage. We were hoping once the air-conditioning was on it would go away. Wrong! Went back to front desk who sent us to to customer service, where I was asked if I had been to Cuba before… They put an air fresher in our room and drain cleaner which helped some but through out the week the smell would come and go. (Gross) I went to speak with the rep Dominique (Who is very rude) the next morning who told me to go to customer service. I found that if you were French or European, you had it made at this resort. They seem to cater to them. My friend (had been here three times with her husband and family), who traveled with us could not believe the decline in food and service from their last visit. (They also just got back from a Melia in the Cayo Santa Maria area in February). This was the first time I’ve struggled to find something to eat at a resort. Everything was cold and not very appealing. There is a beach buffet that was somewhat better than the main one and a snack bar at the pool. I’m not much of a pizza eater but they did have good ones at the snack bar. There was a server who is a treasure to this resort named Yo yo. He who served us breakfast every morning.. Other than Yo Yo at the snack bar, there was a young lady in the coffee bar and young guy at the theatre bar (didn't get their names) who went out of their way to be friendly and made drinkable drinks, but other than that forget about service. Out of three a-al- Cartes we tried (Cuban, Japanese and Italian) the Japanese was the best and the food was hot. If you want smaller change for tipping they will not give it to you even if they have a drawer full of $1 pesos or coin. I think they expect 3 pesos every time you tip. We took the hop-on-hop-off bus into Varadero a few times and hired a taxi to Havana, which was the highlight of our trip. I really liked Varadero and will return but not to this resort.

Hotel Tuxpan: Resort rooms need attention

Great resort - people are friendly, the hotel and grounds are kept immaculate, the pool and beach are well maintained. The rooms are getting to be very bad. I don't see how Cubanacan can rate this resort as a 4-star when they don't want to invest any money in upgrading the rooms. Service is definitely impacted by the reduction in staff - they are still extremely friendly but now stressed because too much to do and no longer staff available to assist them when the hotel is full.

Muthu Playa Varadero: Great Place

Older resort could use touch ups (lodging areas), however great place (2nd time there), small and easy to get everywhere, accessible, grounds well groomed, beach bbq great, liked live cuban music, authentic. Surprised with welcome back extra treatment.

Grand Memories Varadero: Very happy

Super,Super nice beach, nice pools too, but not enough chairs so bring more chairs! Food is good (fries are crisp and chicken is succulent). Musicians are often present at dinner. Nights shows are average. Good for families.
