Grand Memories Varadero: Nice week

This is an average hotel, not run down, but not glamorous either...we had a great week, with absolutely no problems. Being the beginning of the off season we had no problems finding chairs on the beach and pool...all was good. Best thing is when we arrived at 10 am our room was ready :)

Gran Caribe Sun Beach: OK Place to Rest Your Head

This is more an old hotel trying to be a resort. It has some positive and some negative aspects but if you get a great deal and want to use this hotel as a base of travel to see a bit of Cuba (as we did) then you will be OK. Food is not bad for Cuba and the staff are hit and miss. The beds are not very good (ask for room 816, best on the resort). Buy your own booze and mix as they don't have any variety at all.

Grand Memories Varadero: Soso resort

The staff was nice, the rooms need renovations! Lots of family. The resort was calm early in the evening. Did not like the food, always cold, nothing hot. Nobody came to offer us coffee in the morning at the buffet.

Grand Memories Varadero: Needs Updating!!!!!

This could be an amazing resort, it is in bad need of repairs our room's (had to change rooms) walls were all marked up, mold behind mirror, mold in shower, handle grip in shower falling off the wall, patio door had a big hole in screen, first room had sewage smell when you flushed the toilet, second room had musty smell when air conditioning was running. Public toilets were disgusting, mold covering lounge chairs at the pool, Lobby chairs were worn and filth, Buffett dishes were dirty, Main Buf [... read more]fett room needs a major update. Buffett at beach was much better and snack bar at pool was much better. This was our first visit to Cuba, my husband and I loved that we could do lot's of walking at the resort (got our 10'000) steps daily, but were disappointed with the general cleanliness of this resort, could be amazing' great location !!!!!!!

Starfish Jibacoa: Fantastic reef adventures

We went primarily for the snorkeling and diving directly off the resort location. Saw many underwater creatures and fell in love with the underwater world. A quiet resort in a small town with decent rooms (we had a bungalow close to the pool which was nice) and mediocre food. Two nearby restaurants offered alternative dining. Horseback riding up the mountain to the lookout was breathtaking. You can hike it too. Staff were generally friendly but certainly not 5-star service. Sol Varadero Beach: As a last minute deal, it was okay

This was our 5th trip to Cuba, 1st to Varadero. The Resort is big, it appears to be 2 resorts under one name/management. There is the Coral side and the Sirenas side. The Sirenas side looks to be in slightly better shape, and we noticed guests tended to go to the buffet more so on that side. The pools and grounds looked fairly well kept, as was the beach. Our stay was the week after March break so they may have been in recovery mode, as the stage venue for evening animation/entertainment was clo [... read more]sed for repair, and a few structures looked like they were undergoing so work. From what we could imagine and were told from return guests, the resort glory days were behind them. Either not enough budget or staff to keep up with everything. One wall in our room had water stains down the side of it, the paint on the bottom of all the doors was peeling, the hallway ceiling was missing sections that exposed rusted and leaking pipes. I feel bad that this review has a negative vibe so far, but the truth is we have been to better 4 star resorts in Cuba and had we paid regular price, we would have been disappointed. Most of the staff were great, that is one thing about all of Cuba, beautiful warm hearted people. The good will always outweigh the bad here, and will always keep us coming back. Things to note about Sol Sirenas Coral: WiFi cards 2 CUC each, good for one hour -long off when done or the remaining time will run out. Money exchange at hotel approx 10 cents higher on the dollar, always better to exchange at bank(s) or airport. The coffee bar produces some of the best tasting coffee, became part of daily ritual. Location is pretty much on the water, nice beach with a beach bar. The Varadero strip to walk is a good hour. Double decker day passes 5cuc per person. Reasonable cab rate varies from 5-10 CUC depending on whereabouts on the strip you are heading. If we returned to Varadero we would most likely look to try a different hotel.

Mar Del Sur: Great location

rooms.ok if your creative with the staff...but just ok...hotels this cheap tend to draw a certain french canadian crowd.(need i say more)absolutley no courtesy form guests(French Canadians) they expect 5 star service for the money.we liked location only..if this was a 5 star hotel for the dame money...the french canadians cheapin it to drive anyone to go elsewhere..

Muthu Playa Varadero: Good Resort

Not the best but also not the worst. Good for a 4star and food was decent and drinks were well made. Resort was clean but some rooms had broken toliets or other issues. Some of our friends had to wait a day or two to get rooms that had working showers and also check your room to make sure all items espdcally the LCD TV work or you may be charged $650 canadian for breaking a TV

Resonance Blu Varadero: Wonderful wonderful experience in every way

The lay out was excellent! Very clean, pretty! 3 pools swim up bar. Quiet pools for is old folks. Lots of activities for kids. Lobby spacious clean. Lots of room in dining room. The staff everywhere was so amazing!

Club Kawama: Good budget resort

after a few major hiccups at check in and once we were put in proper rooms the rest of our vacation was smooth sailing. Food was great, always lots of fresh veggies and fruit! Found all the staff to be helpful.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: got salmonella and a parasite

Beautiful resort. They need to improve on food and sanitary cooking. Both husband and I got sick. He was the 5 out of 7 days we were there. Won't be back to Cuba. We gave them a second chance. Beach and people were great.

Gran Caribe Sun Beach: Sunbeach Funbeach

We had another great trip to the Grand Caribe Sunbeach. This is a no frills hotel located in downtown Varadero. It was our third stay in the hotel and this year I'm happy to report that our room was clean, our lovely housekeeper Judy gave us fresh towels and did a wonderful job of keeping our room spotless. The food had improved since last visit (the toaster is now fixed - yay) so that was a pleasant surprise. The cons for our visit this time was the presence of lots of virile cats (that were in heat - not pleasant) roaming around in the lobby and in the gardens outside. The staff did try to take control of the situation but from a sanitary point of view this needs to be corrected. The other con was the constant influx of Cuban visitors staying at the resort. The staff cater to them and ignore the other tourists. It used to be that this happened on weekends only but this year it happened all week long and was quite frustrating when trying to get bar or food service. Overall a good trip and we found that Osmandy (Manager on the front desk) continued to be extremely helpful and customer service focused.

Brisas Del Caribe: Better than exected

Overall not a bad vacation spot. The reviews for this resort in the weeks leading up to my trip were absolutely scathing. However, I found the resort clean, comfortable and pleasant. The staff were friendly, and the food much better than expected, not spectacular but you can find something worth eating. Every night the main cafeteria had a good dish on the grill, and the morning omelette bar was always tasty, The room was a bit musty, and there wasn't really much in the way of evening activitie [... read more]s, otherwise for a first time vacation in the Caribbean I have no real complaints.

Starfish Varadero: Never again

Air conditioning is broken 95% of the time. Rooms are not always cleaned. Took 3 days just to get a beach towel. Food is rarely hot and always the same. Zero night life! Staff is not very helpful! Hotel is dirty! Ants EVERYWHERE!!! Never never again!!!

Grand Memories Varadero: Nice resort!! Had a great time.

The tesort was very clean and groynds are beautiful! The food could have veen better but didnt starve thats for sure. Gained 3 lbs there! The entertainment was good and the staff are friendly.The beach is beautiful. The best stretch of beach on the strip i think. With 2 very large pools (one quiet and one with activities) there were plenty of chairs.Unfortunately, like all resorts, you need to reserve seats early to get shade. Hotel Bella Costa: Not great, not bad

The grounds are beautiful and mature and well maintained. The rooms are old and tired and in desperate need of renovation. The beds are the worst I've ever encountered . The beach is beautiful the staff were friendly and helpful and almost everything you need is right on the resort. The food was above average for Cuba. Resonance Blu Varadero: starting to get run down needs to up grade.

Grounds are in pretty good shape ,but we had no air conditioning for 3 days .each day they seen to run out of ice ,liquor,and other things for drinks.the resort is just to large for my liking but the staff was very nice to us.

Grand Memories Varadero: Beautiful beach and great resort staff!

We had a wonderful week enjoying the paddle boats, Hobie cats, snorkeling and sunbathing on the beach. Staff at the resort were excellent. A la carte and buffet meals very good. Clean rooms, clean warm pools & live bands almost every night. The entertainment was the best!

Melia Las Antillas: Relaxing and enjoyable time

Booked 10 days with concierge service. This package had some extras that provided an enhanced check-in (although we missed our welcome drink) and pre booked al a cartes so we didn't have to stand in line. It also offers a continental breakfast which was not that appealing but allowed us to get coffee and juice prior to going to the buffet. Our initial impression of the room was disappointing as it just seemed blah and dated. Bathroom had some mold issues. The expected 'oceanview' was a small peek through the trees as we were on the 4th floor - view from 5th floor was much better. The resort itself is quite wonderful. Could see lots of improvement work ongoing with painting and path stone work. The beach of course was fantastic. We conceded to claiming chairs early in the morning - something I have always been against but otherwise with no shade it was just to hot to any spend quality time on the beach. They were in the process of adding additional cabanas. Not much time spent at the pool but it was very nice. Exchanging $ was easy and never a long wait. For the first time we needed to seek medical attention and this went very well . Note - you have to pay cash up front then get reimbursed by your health plan at home. Buffet and bar service - this varied day to day. Exceptional on some days but often we sat and never got served. No real issue - we just went to the bar ourselves. Buffet food was okay/ average. Great omelets though. We really enjoyed all the al a cartes and the acoustic musicians were A 1. Evening entertainment at the lobby bar was not up to par for Cuba - more on the electronic side and not all that professional. Annoying actually. No comparison to what we experienced on previous trips. The later nightly entertainment shows were away from the main hotel so we actually only say one - an aquatic show in the pool which was very good. All in all we were able to relax, enjoy the surroundings, meet new friends and again enjoy the Cuban vibe and people. I would recommend this resort with some reservations around the room and service.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Beautiful resort!! Amazing beach!!

The Blau marina was a nice resort not top of the line but the beach and water was amazing. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The pools were well kept and very relaxing. The food was not great but if that's why your going then Cuba is not for you.... Go for the people, the scenery, the ocean, the beach, and the beautiful country!!
