Roc Barlovento: Roc Barlovento

For a 4 star resort, we expected a lot better food and a nicer dining area. The location was okay, but we prefer something a little more central. There was nothing really special to justify the price. The a la cartes were really poor. The beach needed raking. The snack bar should have offered more choices.

Hotel Villa Cuba: Average hotel near Varadero.

Pretty happy with this hotel. Buffets and restaurant were average, but not disappointing. Reservation system is still lacking and you may be disappointed if you do not stand in line. Beaches and pool are awesome. No troubles with getting a lounge chair. Hotels rooms are falling behind in maintenance and are needing upgrading. Lots of ants. Staff are great and are helpful. Internet cards and availability is sketchy. Villa Cuba ran out of cards for four-six days (lost track) and eventually receive [... read more]d cards for internet access. Overall, Villa Cuba is an older hotel and starting to show, but the staff and the location were good for us. Weather, beach and food were all good.

Roc Barlovento: Nice beach

Hotel was nice, one of the nicest along the strip. Beach was amazing, smaller hotel so a little less to do at the hotel, but if you budget more money, there's lots to do offsite. While they did their best with what they have, the food was as reviewed by others, Cuba food. Catamaran trip was amazing! As was our trip to Havana. Hotel Internacional: Pretty good resort!!!

I'm really surprised with this resort. It was clean, very good treatment, amazing and variety of food. I advice everyone to be there. In addition, it has a beautiful part of the beach and with great swimming pool. Awesome!

Hotel Internacional: It really is falling apart. ..

Having travelled to this resort quite often, I have no choice but to report that it really is time for it to go. The food, the bugs, the prostitution...it left a negative impact. Estimated time for new resort to open...probably 2 years.

From the outside it looks like the hotel has not seen a paint job since it was built. The best part was the beach and lets be honest that is shared by all the resorts. The food was barely edible and meat was served without being fully cooked. Its a wonder I didn't get food poisoning. The bar was not open 24hr as indicated and water sports were nonexistent. The hours for other amenities (first aid/massage/etc) did not follow the schedule either as staff seemed to come and go as they pleased. In f [... read more]act the massage room was padlocked EVERY time I checked. The pool was deserted, did not provide any view and there was NO pool bar which would have been a welcomed addition. For the rooms: the bed sheets were not changed and water was only provided on the first day. This was annoying considering I did not tip that day but did on other days only to get worst service. Other guests complained of bedbugs and cockroachs. When ordering hot dogs from the cafeteria, one came out with a 5 inch curled hair over top. I hate to think of what I may have eaten without seeing. Hairnets and proper sanitary service would go a long way. When asking for a particular type of rum/drink the service was hit and miss. At times what was ordered was served. Other times they insisted on using the cheaper liquour instead. If it wasn't for the fellow travellers I met and friends I went with, then I would have left after the second day. Honestly, we might as well have stayed in a hostel or just slept on the beach.

Club Karey: Go elsewhere.

The rooms we had were appalling. We were in what had been a stand-alone motel, almost a km from the main lobby/restaurant. Despite many attempts to get a better room, were stuck there in 2 rooms with patio doors that didn't open, bedbugs, constant dampness. I have no illusions about Cuba, having stayed at lower rated hotels in Santiago, which were far superior. The food was just awful, and I'm not very fussy, as long as there is plenty. Hotel Internacional: Amazing beach, but the hotel needs TLC

The hotel is planned to be demolished so there is no effort to maintain the building and its content. Broken chairs, rusty bathtub, hanging down curtains and so on. But, we forget all this when we are on the beach. Clear turquoise water, white sands and wonderful weather.

Hotel Villa Cuba: very nice resort

the part 1000 is repaired and nice and quiet ,,,,but dont stay in the villa its very old not nice ,,so go in the block 1000 very nice ,,,its clean no bugs and we love iit i will go back anythimes ,,food is ok

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Quite, even by Cuban standards

While the beach and the ocean are wonderful, hotel customer service is a study in incompetence: from having (only 6) newly arrived guests at 11 a.m. wait until 4 p.m. before letting them into their rooms; to having two spoons for ten salad bowls in the restaurant (positively comical); to having half the tables occupied and half covered with dirty dishes and none clean in restaurants at peak times; to front desk staff's inability to offer consistent accurate directions within Varadero; the list g [... read more]oes on. Overall, the worst I have seen in Cuba - this was my eighth vacation on the island. If you can close your eyes to to a badly mismanaged hotel, you may still have a passable experience. I would however have recommend staying away from this hotel, and, quite possibly from all other hotels of the Barcelo chain anywhere.

Club Kawama: Amazing vacation experience!

This was our first family tropical vacation! The resort was beautiful! Clean! The three pools were Amazing! The staff were incredible. We had two shows a day pool side, one at 4pm and the other at 930pm. The beach was kept clean. There were lots of things for us as a family to do , a lifesize chest board, kayaking, sail boating, padal boating, snorkeling, basketball, billiards, ping pong, volleyball, tennis....all inclusive.....our children, aged 11 and 13 had an amazing time in a safe environme [... read more]nt. Security was tight and we never felt unsafe are in any harms way, as parents we could relax and have fun . The resort ensured adjoining rooms so we had a comfortable lovely family trip. Highly recommend this resort. Anyone we spoke to from other resorts, wished they had stayed at Club kawama as there were so many more things to take in, the shows, the fun atmosphere, the inclusive offerings:)

Hotel Villa Cuba: Good value for the money paid

It was our first trip to Cuba and we were not disappointed! Villa Cuba has nice beach, friendly staff, especially if you tip them, good selection of drinks and stunning view from the bar on the roof. Room was OK, but they definitely need to work on plumbing as we had water leaking in the bathroom. We had pool view, which is quite loud at night till 12 - 1 am, but has astonishing view!

Hotel Internacional: it was a good resort

It was a pretty good resort, it was nice having the beach so close. I didn't like that when I stepped out of the washroom in my room, it startled me that the maid was there already into her cleaning. She could have knocked, or if she did and I did not hear her, she should have said HELLO, I am here Ok? There were no do not disturb tags offered. Also the food could have been improved. The laneway to the hotel was full of holes and often filled with water so you had to carefully step around and ov [... read more]er fencing that was laying loosely on ground.Other than these 3 things I have no complaints.

Hotel Internacional: fantastic beach

Staff were friendly, food was acceptable, room clean and comfortable. Would certainly return to enjoy the sun and drinks. The 2 min walk from my room to the water was a welcome treat, and waist deep water clear water was an added bounus

Hotel Villa Cuba: It's Cuba - I had a great time :)

The hotel isn't huge, which is what I wanted because my spouse recently had knee surgery. Our room was fine, a lot if other guests didn't have good water pressure, hot water, or AC - but luckily we had it all :) we met some amazing people there. There's was always plenty of food and drinks. The staff were very friendly. It's Cuba, you get what you pay for, I'm never disappointed, been there 6 times.

Hotel Inglaterra: Historic Havana hotel

Hotel was very interesting with lots of exterior and interior architecture reminiscent of the old days of gracious living in Havana. Breakfasts were poor with no pepper to put on eggs. Staff was good except for front desk staff who were indifferent.

Hotel Internacional: Nice place

It was a nice hotel. It is in need of some renovation but staff works hard to keep it clean. Because many complain about the food I have to say the food is great. Some things did not look appetizing to me but I tried some and they were good anyway. The only thing I did not like is some sort of sweet potato but this is really personal preference. There were people complaining about not having anything to eat on a day when there was a choice between pork, chicken, beef, rabbit and vegetarian dishes. On two of the days there wasn't a big meat selection but the grill offered chicken, pork and fish. Now the soup I tried only once and it was awful but I am only mentioning it because of all the negative comments about the food that I am trying to comprehend. For every meal there were plenty of choices. By the way the staff eats at the same buffet and I find that really nice I would have felt really embarrassed if they did hear some of the complaints about the food though. The only thing that bothered me was the lifeguard situation. Since it was bit cooler than usual they were no where to be found (maybe saw one of them once a day) for 4 days. Then when they finally appeared they were sitting in groups far from the ocean without any equipment whatsoever. No times for the lifeguards were posted either. The only equipment they had was a whistle?! Otherwise they were pleasant. The rest of the staff was also pleasant but they were also very effective at their jobs. There is a computer to use internet and it works more or less fine. I found that if log in, then log out properly and then log in again it works without problem. The only thing is that the first time I tried to use it the front desk staff had no idea how to type @ she gave me the wrong key combination ... anyway you might want to know it is Ctrl+Alt+2 There was a huge number of security guards. They were the ones watching the ocean too. The water in the pool was clean but there ware constantly drowning bugs in it because of the high wind and no one bothered to clean them out.

Club Kawama: Lots of charm, excellent staff

This is my 2nd stay at Kawama, It got the updates it needed. New pool, new beach and pool chairs, better lighting etc and still maintains its charm/rustic feel. The location is great, beautiful beach, restaurants, bank and markets within walking distance. This resort has a party feel and is small enough that you never have trouble making new friends. I really enjoyed the food and never had gastric problems like all of my previous Cuba trips. My biggest pet peeve with this resort is the mosquito/ [... read more]sand flea problem at the pool bar.. I *strongly* recommend bringing bug spray(bigger can the better) and being very liberal with it anytime you're spending time after dark anywhere but especially at the pool bar. Also the in room safe are opened with a programmable key card. I brought tamper proof stickers just for my own piece of mind but also hoping to deter an entry while away. Our travel group is growing and alot are planning on returning in April which I will do in a heart beat. Repeat guests are treated well here. I defiantly recommend this resort for the location and value.

Hotel Villa Cuba: Average

Stayed here last year also. Beautiful location, beach , pool and grounds. Good food. Great staff. Could use some hot water for shower. Building leaking for some time, as beginning to be musty. but, is a very relaxing place.

Roc Barlovento: Not what i expected

the hotel is in need of repair, not all was open on a regular bases, had opportunity a couple of years ago to visit friends there for the day and the resort has gone down hill since them. although they are starting to do repairs and to add some things to the hotel but these repairs will talk time. the food reminded me of a 1 or 2 star resort in Cuba, although I have been to Cuba more than 20 times this trip was most disappointing. it came highly recommended by friends that have stayed there many [... read more] times, whom was with us this time and feel the same about the resort. all and the sun, the beach and relaxation was the best.
