This was the worst experience ever in Cuba. Nothing really worked properly at the resort. Rooms were not clean, we did not get clean towels or water. It was a struggle to find someone to help. They were just not interested. Not enough food.. only pasta and rice.
I would not recommend this resort better to pay more and go somewhere else. Especially if you are travelling with kids!!
Loved this resort and the people had the best experience ever!!! So kind, friendly and fun!!!

Sol Palmeras: Awesome Beach!
This resort has a wide expanse of beach. It is an emaculate space with plenty of loungers and shade.
Just a short walk to an excellent variety of shops.
Close to the golf course.
The staff are genuine, the resort is clean and the rooms are an ample size.
I travel alone and always feel safe. I return to this resort everytime because it feels like a second home.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: 2nd Time
My second time coming to Melia Peninsula Varadero was another amazing experience. From the amazing staff at Reception (Melissa and Jany) and many others making everything perfect for our arrival, ensuring all our rooms were close together. Going above and beyond making my 40th Birthday extra special with Champaign and Chocolate in the room, a dinner reservation for my birthday. All the reception staff were great with assisting in anything we needed. A special shout out to Melissa in customer se[... read more]rvice who found us some crutches to use after one of the girls hurt her foot. We also had the best housekeeper Yenis who always went above and beyond making sure we had everything we needed in our room. We didn't have to ask for extra water she always made sure we had lots.
Most mornings were spent on the beautiful beach where lifeguard Luis would help get enough beach chairs ready for our group, drinks served by the bar staff on the beach. Nothing was any trouble for them. Everyday there was beach volleyball, water aerobics, and interaction with the entertainment staff. The entertainment staff go the extra mile to spend time with you ensuring you are having a great time (Christian,Jean, Chocolate Nutella, Karmen, Elio, Jenny and many others) you are an amazing team that works so well together to keep the guests happy. In the afternoon the entertainment moves to the main pool providing music and entertainment. They went above and beyond to make my birthday extra special with cake at the night beach party. The pool staff/lifeguards Leisser, Eduard, Yariolkis were all great and joined in our fun. Special shout out to all the pool bar/24 hour snack bar staff that always made sure our drink cups were full. Daniel, Yoyo, Sergio, Isamary, Lianet you guys are the BEST we can't thank you enough for taking great care of us. Luis Miguel at the 24 hour snack bar looked after us at night making sure we always had drinks and food. Thank you for putting up for us.
Everyone always worries about the food in Cuba, we had no complaints we all found something to eat every day. The a la carte were all great! Special thanks to Bruce Willis for always having a big enough table ready for our large group and to the food manager Victor for the special gesture he did for our group.
We all had a great time at this resort and I will not hesitate to go back again and again. It's 100% the staff that make this resort what it is!

Melia Las Antillas: Would NOT recommend!
This is our fourth trip to Cuba.
Just returned home from Melia Las Antillas (Sept 7-14/23). We arrived at the resort between 10:30 - 11:00 am on 7th of Sept. Front desk staff was very friendly and welcoming. The lovely woman explained that rooms were being cleaned and instructed us to leave our luggage in the front lobby while we went to the buffet, had something to eat and got familiar with the property. We returned at 3:30 as instructed only to be told that our rooms were still not ready. We [... read more]waited in the lobby until about 4:30 before we were assigned our rooms -3203, 3325, 3327. (Joanne, UK, as you mentioned in your review the condom is still there at 3203).
Rooms- VERY dated and in desperate need of fresh paint and new furniture. The maids did their very best cleaning and tidying daily. Fresh towels and 2 bottles of water were replenished daily. We left a 5.00 tip (Canadian) daily.
Bathroom - Bathtub looks like it fell off the Titanic. The glaze finish is all but gone. There is a large soap holder attached to the middle of the shower wall that impedes your struggle with not having the shower curtain get stuck to your body as your shower. The shower faucet was loosely attached to the wall. Toilet flushed well and there was a bidet for your use as well. The hair dryer was falling off the wall and wasn't much stronger than a breath of wind.
Sleeping area - there are no electrical outlets near the head of the bed for those of you with CPAP machines. We asked for an extension cord and were told basically to turn the mattress around and place the CPAP machine on a chair which could reach an outlet nearby. (You will need a universal wall adapter). We slept upside down (feet at headboard) for the duration of our stay. We brought some skirt and short hangers and some plastic hangers from home which came in really handy.
In room safe - worked just fine for storing our valuables.
Buffet - Pretty impressed the first day but became very repetitive quickly. Same foods offered at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Some days there was no butter, no bread for toast, bland fruit choices, absolutely no tomatoes, lettuce, carrots or vegetables period. Our main staple daily was carb related - pasta, (hot and cold), rice, potatoes. There were some meats choices - beef, pork, chicken but we were leery about the way they are cooked and stored. We did bring KETCHUP, HOT SAUCE, MUSTARD, RELISH, SALT, PEPPER, PEANUT BUTTER, JAM, CHIPS, CEREAL BARS and licorice which came in extremely handy! (Also, don't forget your Imodium, aspirins, etc) which became very helpful to have. The Buffet Grill exhaust fan was not working a few times which quickly lead to a smoke filled room. Doors were opened to help the situation but it did not help. It was not pleasant.
The A La Carte Restaurants were all a very nice change from the monotonous choices at the buffet for dinner. Thank you Daylis for making the reservations for us. It was much appreciated. (By the way, they did not enforce the mens dress code -long pants - perhaps because it was so darn hot and humid - even in the evening). Be careful going into the ladies washroom close to the buffet. Only one of four toilets had toilet paper. Again, no soap, no paper towels.
Pool - It was no fault of the resorts but the pool water was about 90 degrees - like a warm bath at best - due to the 100 degree temperature. One side of the large pool has a encircling river of water which stinks to high heaven of polluted wastewater - especially when they turn on the three waterfall ornaments at the one end. The smell was so disgusting that the sun lounging chairs around that side were always empty. The water in that area was stagnant, slimy and rancid. Those poor sharks and fish in there! In fact, the smell was so bad one day, my husband asked someone to turn off the fountains which they did. The other side of the pool which is adjacent to the bar and washrooms was much nicer however why they feel the need to blast the Spanish music at 9:00 am is beyond me. We were in the pool speaking to each other and we were shouting. They did lower the sound a few decibels when we asked them to. Speaking of which, the entertainment team worked very hard to make sure everyone had fun but I must say that the short female in the group (Sheila?) got annoying very quickly - we could hear her all the way to our rooms when we were getting ready for supper. I can only speak for the ladies pool washroom - only one of three sinks worked - the other two were broken. No hand soap. No paper towels. One of three toilets did not have a seat.
The property is very large and there are many stairs to climb. They do have elevators however.
Again, no fault of the resorts but the air was so humid and hot in the evening when we sat in the lobby after dinner. No ceiling fans anywhere. No breeze anywhere. Our wonderful server Ramon did his best to serve us but choices of liquor were very limited.
Be careful buying the Cuban Pesos - if you purchase too many, you will be stuck with them. You cannot exchange them back for your currency. We gave tips in American and Canadian however we did purchase about 40.00 (Canadian) worth of Cuban pesos from the shuttle on the way to the resort. Better deal than buying them at the resort.
We walked off the property one day and took the hop on hop off bus into Varadero (5.00 American each). The woman handing out the tickets asked for credit cards and we told her that was all we had and she accepted it. (I had read that when some people got home, they were charged two or three times on their credit cards).
We also booked a tour of Havana with Alejandro (Cuban Compass Tours). This is the third time I booked Alejandro and once again he did not disappoint. He picked us up in a beautiful '56 Bel Air that was air conditioned. His driver was so accommodating as well.
All in all, we managed to have a good time and make some fun memories. Cuba is in a very, very sad state of affairs and I pray that it gets better for the people.

Melia Buenavista: Beautiful resort!
The Buenavista is a beautiful resort. We have had many enjoyable trips to Cuba but this was by far the best for service and overall wonderful experience. We loved having a concierge. A big thank you to both Daymi and Jani. They were amazing! We also had excellent service provided by Carlos in the Ranchon, Lester at the pool bar and many others throughout the hotel. The beaches are stunning! The pools and grounds are beautiful and very well kept. Our room had a lovely ocean view and was very cle[... read more]an. The hotel is a bit older and some of the furniture is showing it’s age but overall we were happy with the room…loved the outdoor shower. It’s a quiet resort with a spa-like feel. The food was good by Cuban standards and there was plenty of it. No complaints! We’re planning on going back next year.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Ok experience.
It wasn’t worth it in my opinion. I don’t believe the room was properly cleaned before I entered because there was a strange smell coming from it - near the front door (where the washroom was). The washroom didn’t have a proper door. It had a curtain, which was a little weird but it was ok I guess since I didn’t have to share the room with anyone else. The keyless entry didn’t work properly, even after I had kept it away from magnetic devices - such as my phone.
The people were frie[... read more]ndly, but aside from that, it wouldn’t be a resort I would go to again, at least not by myself.

Paradisus Varadero: Good resort
Paradisus Varadero is good resort very nice beach ðŸï¸I love palm trees and lots of sun beds at all time. Restaurant was very clean it was always 4 different types of meats but I was surprised to see nothing from veggies or even oranges which is tropical fruit. Room was ok I was on ground floor it was my first time that I had a ground floor so I am not sure if it’s normal to find huge bugs like it was 10 cm long and lizards visiting my room. Also there was lingering smell of sewage on and o[... read more]ff from nearby sewage drainage system. Few times I had to spray perfumes to be able to breathe. I think hotel was ok but because of this issue and older limited air conditioning system I would give this hotel 4 stars not 5 like it’s on the site . Oh yeah I forgot my very first trip on the beach my flip flops got stolen. So I had to buy another one over there which caused so uncomfortable they made many wounds on my feet I was in a lot of pain walking. So bring your ugly flip flops.Internet was frustrating because auto log in doesn’t work and even you are not active for 2 minutes it logs you off so you have to keep logging in every time you intent to use your phone. They give you like 10 h a day so you have to go back to reception for more hours. I didn’t like that. It was also very hard to log in to I pad.

Melia Cayo Coco: Fantastic trip Meliá Cayo Coco
This resort was great. The grounds were very beautiful and the beach was one of the best I’ve been to. The resort itself is very well run. The room was absolutely comfortable and very modern. The housekeeping staff did a fabulous job every day, the room was always spotless. As for the food, all meals were good. There was a wide assortment of options. The staff made the dining experience even better with their friendly manner. Massive shoutout to Sachy Perez, who was so great throughout my stay[... read more]. Melia Marina Varadero: Worest experience!!!
First I want to say, this is not my first time to Cuba. This was my third time, and after this vacation I will not be going to Cuba ever again. The hotel lacked in food, I mean shortage and sometimes ran out of liquor so I couldn't get drinks. The wifi needed to be refeshed ever 5 hour at the lobby. They ran out of beach towel and limited food at the snack bar, I mean they mostly had bun and cheese. This was one of my worest experiences I had.

Melia Las Antillas: Would not return :(
The hotel itself is beautiful - the atmosphere, the beach, the pool.
One issue was with the food - no condiments of any kind (salt, sugar, salad dressing, ketchup)...long line ups at the buffet on the days when eggs were available. The food selection was extremely poor and unrecognizable. The a la carte restaurants were much better. The bars often ran out of main ingredients. The Sunwing representative appeared at the hotel when it fit his schedule.
More importantly, guests were categorized [... read more]by their bracelets. Sunwing's orange bracelet made me feel like I was in steerage - blue bracelet people were given much more attention and service (they had paid for the bigger rooms). My first room smelled - it was dark (many broken lights, dirty)...took 3 days before they found me another room! The entertainment team was terrible - I didn't really see anyone throughout the week. The nightly shows were blah. Very few people were at the hotel and I know why. I've been to Cuba many times and never had an experience like this - definitely would not go back to this hotel ever!!
