Gran Muthu Almirante Beach Resort: Amazing resort

New beautiful resort, great food selection,very clean, excellent service. Very nice wide beach but not enough chairs. We been there one week but I would definitely stay there for two weeks. We have admired variety of many bushes palms and other plants. Good location.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Perfect location for romantic getaway

Paradisus Rio de Oro is a fantastic choice for a relaxing couples getaway. Set on a ridge above Esmeralda Beach, the quiet, natural setting, clean and well-maintained facilities and consistently friendly and helpful staff allowed us to disconnect and recharge. On the downside, it's a 60-90 minute drive from the airport depending on traffic. We opted for a Royal Service oceanview unit which is well worth the additional cost - like many similar premium options, it's a resort within the resor [... read more]t with access to private dining, beach and pool facilities in addition to those on the main resort. There's an on-site spa with separate pool and beach which you can use if you take advantage of spa services, and the prices are very affordable. There was a reasonable selection of hot and cold food and beverage options, although the range varied from meal to meal. The Japanese, Mediterranean and Cuban restaurants were better than expected while the main buffet and Continental restaurant were more run of the mill. Shopping options are very limited so be sure to bring toiletries, snacks, accessories, and anything else you think you might need. If you're looking for dancing, socializing, lots of excursion options or shopping, this is probably not the place for you. But if you like beaches and natural settings, appreciate great service, relaxing on the balcony, and you aren't too fussy about what you eat, you should definitely add this place to your list.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Nice Resort

Grounds were well kept. Very clean. Staff were wonderful. On the down side, we never saw a rep from Air Transat for the 2 week we were there. The rep from Sunwing went out of their way to assist us. The food was okay, but was a bit boring. Some things were good ( omelets and some desserts). The pool bartender (Alberto) was great. Unfortunate about supply issues, but we were aware of this when we booked.

Iberostar Coral Holguin: A very nice resort

The hotel was very good. The service was very good by certain people bartenders (Alexander and Dayana )the fitness instructor (Carlos) the evening butler (Yarandia spelling May not be correct ) The day butler was never around so no service the bartender's at the main outside bar were not very friendly service was ok The maids were great. Room was always clean The food was pretty good ! My wife and I would have liked a massage or two while we were there. Didn't happen. Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Don’t go… should be 1 stat

No refrigerator in rooms unless you want to rent it…. No water in rooms or at store… if you want bottled water you have to buy it with a credit card… same good every night… no diet drinks… there is a beach club near resort but you have to rent the beach chairs…. Will never go there again

Jan. 23 to Dec. 6 – group of 6 seniors This hotel had a change-over at the time of our visit (from Hotel Tesoro del Atlantico to Grand Memories), hence the need to fine-tune some services. BEACH: Beautiful, sandy, warm ocean. Ideal for long strolls. More-than-enough comfortable lounging chairs, palapas and trees for shade. POOLS: Clean and huge, with many shaded areas and comfortable chairs. HOTEL: Modern, new, well-appointed. Wide hallways and walkways – nicely lit. In fact, it is THE [... read more] BEST LIT-UP RESORT WE HAVE EVER HAD IN CUBA. No worrying about tripping due to unexpected stairs or darkness. Public areas and rooms are spacious, clean, and everything is in good working order. Love the screen door to the balcony. RESTAURANTS: Plenty of food in cafeteria. Main fare was pork (sometimes roasted piglets = yummy) and cabbage, which could get somewhat monotonous. Choice of cooked vegetables was limited, but certainly enough fresh vegetables. Cakes, breads & ice cream were delicious. CLOTH napkins at every dinner - WOW. Italian & Caribbean Restaurants were good. Thank you all for your friendly and efficient service. BARS: Except for the lobby bar not being up to par, service was good. However, mixed drink choices were limited, but there was plenty of wine and beer. Spanish coffee and cappuccino were mostly good. LANDSCAPING: Nicely landscaped. Being a new resort, once the many trees and shrubs mature, it will be a most beautiful resort. Gardeners are doing a fine job in looking after the gardens. PLEASANT SURPRISE: NO INSECTS = no bites in two weeks – unbelievable and wonderful! Cannot understand the reason, since we never saw anyone spraying? IMPROVEMENTS NEEDED: Rooms were not ready at check-in time. Waited an extra 1 ½ hours. No decent or no shows in the evening. Lobby bar was way too noisy until late evening, due to some rowdy guests who brought their own music, making it annoying and difficult to sleep for those who had their rooms close-by. Internet connection was not good during the day, but ok early morning or late evening/night. OBSERVATION: This hotel has many positive things going for it, but there are some small issues that need to be addressed. It certainly has the potential to become a fantastic resort. Overall, we had a fun and relaxing vacation. Would we return? Perhaps not immediately, but maybe in the near future, once their little problems have been ironed out. P.S. Our vacation at the Gran Muthu Almirante Beach Resort was incredible... The people are so nice and very helpful... the resort was kept very clean and the service was wonderful.... people say there's a lack of food that's a lie there was a variety of food just no ketchup,variety of jams but there was alot!! I would go back in a second... the only thing that is a downfall for people that have disabilities is alot of stairs to go down to the beach they need to install a ramp.. and not enought chair [... read more]s on the beach... but that would not stop me from going back again next year... Not only is this resort beautiful with stunning beaches and well appointed rooms. The staff by far made our vacation! Every single person that works here goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome and taken care of! Looking forward to going back soon!

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Good Resort with a Few Issues!!

This resort was, in many ways, far above the three star category it is tagged with.. First the positives: The grounds and landscaping are beautiful and everyday there are lots of gardeners and assistants to take care of things. The resort also has access to several beaches on the property which are quite beautiful. One beach had a bar and also served barbequed food. The resort is connected to a medical clinic, a pharmacy and a store nearby. You can go for a ride on bicycles you can use for sev [... read more]eral hours and they are in excellent condition. There is also a market which sells clothes, jewellery and paintings. There is entertainment almost every night and the main bar is spacious and light and airy. The only quibble I have is that, as always in Cuba, the food is pretty blah. The hotel tries hard but there is just not the variety of food you would find in Mexico or other Caribbean destinations. For example, they had papaya and bananas, but not much else for fruit. Lots of desserts but the fish was pretty salty or tasteless. They did have pork and some beef but by the end of 14 days, I had had enough. Also, I think they should start having vegetarian offerings at separate tables as more and more people are vegetarians and vegans. As usual, the coffee at the main restaurant was pretty awful, but downstairs at the main bar, you could get decent cappuccinos with milk and sugar. I have food allergies so I had to bring my own cereal with me. Next time, I would bring cookies too as well aschips as at the end I wasn't eating much. There is also a 24 hour bar, but the service there is spotty and slow. There seemed to be a lot of confusion with regard to Sunwing services. Apparently, Sunwing wants to launch an Elite Plus class of tourism service so restaurants on the resort which once were open to everyone who had made reservations, now were only open to Elite Plus tourists, who wore orange bracelets. It was confusing, especially since none of us were informed of this beforehand. One night, we got all dressed up to go to a booked restaurant near the ocean only to be told we had to go to a nearby pool as this restaurant was not available to us. It made me feel like a second -class tourist... My main complaint was the way some tourists acted. There should be a two tiered system for drunks and the rest of us. I had one or two drinks per day, and I am sure I was subsidizing all the drunks who were forcing their lousy music on the rest of us and generally behaving badly. And I mean badly, as I saw some sexual harassment of young female waitresses and what appeared to solicitation of very young male and female prostitutes by old men, a real turnoff. These incidents were not common but ugly enough to witness. On the whole the staff tries very hard to do their best. Finally, I feel that the Sunwing excursions are pricey. There is a $5.00 bus ride you can take from the resort which drives you around the area and was a change for us. The resort takes Canadian money and US as well as Cuban pesos I would recommend this resort as right now it gives good value. I would love to go to a five star to see if the tourists there are better behaved, but probably they are not. Oh yes, be careful with towels. There is always a bit of hassle with towels apparently going missing. And the nice hotel store in the lobby sold only small European sizes!!! Considering that many slim Europeans were not at the hotel, that was a bit of a waste!!

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Great resort, Great staff, Great value

We stayed from Jan 29th to Feb 5th, in a superior room in block 3. We had a fantastic time here! The room was OK, a little dated by some people's standards. But the beds were super comfy, the AC was ice cold, the water was hot and possibly the highest pressure on earth lol. The room was cleaned, and the mini fridge restocked daily. The other two meals provided plenty of options, I had no problem assembling something decent with what they had. The ice cream is 5 star. The bars were great. Some days they didn't have ingredients for certain drinks, but that wasn't their fault. They pour name brand liquors, several havana club rums, Jameson whiskey etc, and endless supplies of beer. The beach was fantastic, I won't bother elaborating because it's been said a million times. Same goes for the staff. They never stop! Very attentive and friendly. We wouldn't hesitate to go back, in fact, I'm going to play closer attention to prices and try to snag a deal on a 14 day trip next year!

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: aston

stay Jan 28 to Feb 8 th, fine hotel in general but not as good as expected, rooms need upgrades, air conditioning working but never as cold as it should be even after getting it checked, leaky sink but fixed the next day, none working security box ( also fixed) , room curtains hanging down but mostly ripped from the rod, just food is typical Cuba and repetitive , a la carte restaurants have no better food than the buffet ( one of them was still closed when we were there), pools are nice and cle [... read more]an, nightly entertainment was ok and typical of Cuba shows, staff was fantastic polite and friendly, beach was excellent. supplies for alcohol was pretty well limited to beer and rum, servers were fast and efficient. Well i was sceptical of going to Cuba this is my 3rd time and it was the best by far! Hotel grounds and landscaping has lots of character mature trees and very cozy , Very well laid out resort Beach was Beautiful but had rocky sections hard to get in and out of water But there is a section were it is just sand to enter Rooms are large and very clean excellent showers and bathroom Cant really complain about anything at all other than a bit dated but very nice Food was decent for Cuba l [... read more]ots of choices ala cart restaurants were good 4 choices Japanese was the Best !! Playa Costa Verde: Great staff

This is a good hotel if you are on a budget. The hotel grounds are very nice and clean. The private rooms could really use an update! As they have not been touched in over 20 years! The housecleaning staff was great and even though they keep it very clean you can’t overlook wear and tear! Excellent entertainment staff! They make you feel welcome! Serving staff was great! Playa Costa Verde: Great Value for Resort

My room was clean, air conditioned, comfortable large bed. Plenty of food. Tastiest chicken was outstanding both, freshly sauteed in front of me, and chicken also in the hot trays. Only white wine. No red wine. Spirits were rum only. Plenty of eggs for omelettes, sunnyside up. We had fresh papya and domestic fruits, coissants/fresh baked bread. Ala-cart, Japan was the BEST - four meats, chicken, pork, beef and basa fish; Italian, also great and Cuban. Beach water was too many coral rocks.  [... read more]You need watershoes. Next time I will bring watershoes. Plenty of chairs to lie under shade or sun. Cubans always there to provide chairs. We had an amazing great time every day. Night shows were entertaining and enjoyable.

Playa Pesquero: Great beautiful resort

The resort is very beautiful with all amenities you may need, pool area is great, beach is very nice but right now there are lots of shortages for food and drinks. Rooms are a bit outdated. We will definately come back when things are back to normal.

Iberostar Selection Holguin: Great vacation

The hotel is big and very clean. The beach was beautiful and you could always get a lounge chair as the staff don’t allow people to reserve them all day which was great. We were very lucky that there were no shortages of food while we were there. The only thing that they didn’t have was mix for the fancy cocktails which was too bad. The staff for the most part were great especially the ladies at the kids club. I found the lobby bar staff to be extremely inattentive though and I’m not sure  [... read more]why. We we’re always friendly, patient and tipped. It’s very quiet in the evenings as it’s mostly families. The resort is very large at first but once you get to know your way around it doesn’t seem quite so big. I probably will return

Paradisus Rio De Oro: good resort

Good value considering the inflated costs this year. Food is good and plentiful, buffet is very repetitive as in most resorts. Staff are very friendly. Grounds are clean and easy to get around. Pool cleanliness needs a bit of work, a good scrub would help it a lot. Most of the beach is rocky and not swimmeable but there is a small section which is sand bottoom. Rooms are cleaned daily, fresh bedding and towels every day. Rooms do smell a bit musty due to high humidity, same as all the caribean r [... read more]esorts we have visited. Our package said 4 a la cartes per week but that has changed to 3. Website also says coffee machines in rooms but that is wrong also. Over all we would give this resort a 4 at best although they think it's 4.5 Had a really good time. No regrets as long as you are not expecting luxury. We picked this resort quickly as plan B after Sunwing bailed on us with under 2 weeks notice. Having taken more time selecting we probably would not have been here but that OK.

This hotel is the nicest I have ever stayed at in Cuba. The food was excellent despite a few shortages here & there which is always expected in Cuba so not an issue for me. The staff are caring & friendly & always make you feel welcome.
