Sirenis Tropical Varadero: Loved it
We did like it, just what we were expecting for. The price was good, food was good, especially for New Year and Christmas. The ocean was a little bit cold, but that’s what you can expect during winter time.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: All you could dream of
The grounds are kept up implacably. This is one of my favorite resorts because they offer so much. For example the sprawling grounds give you the use of 3 resorts. I love having the ocean front access with the beautiful walk way to the property.
Fortunately the room I requested was not available so at no charge my 9 year old niece and I were upgraded to a villa room. I later upgraded a little more to a villa ocean front which offered a spectacular view of the ocean.
The room was clean, a[... read more]ir conditioned and had a balcony. All features that my young niece appreciated too.

Valentin Cayo Cruz: The resort itself is very good and the location is about 1 * hour from the air port via taxi.
Very good layout of the buildings and the 5 * swimming pools were a bonus. The room and the housekeeping service was excellent very polite staff. The grounds were maintained and clean. The view from the room was excellent. This is our fifth time to Cuba and I would rate the food as 1 out 5 reason the shortage of food and the snack bar ran out of beer in the afternoon. The main problem was the alcartes offered and hard to believe the food was better at the buffet and to boot the service was very [... read more]slow as we noticed other people walk out because they were tried of waiting for the food up to 45 * minutes. The resort looked like it was only at 30% capacity and to make a reservation for the alcarte stood in line for over 40 * minutes to find out they only had 1 * style of alcarte to book. The night time entertainment was about 1 * hour long but it seemed each night it was same theme a little singing and mainly dancing. After many visits with the resort manager will explained our concerns about the service and the resort itself so she would have feed back to help correct the problems mainly food and drinks. Hopefully as time goes some of the issues we had will get resolved. Right now I would not recommend this resort for someone going on their first time all inclusive resort as it would be a disappointment.
I have been to Cuba before and have loved it! This time not so much. This hotel was such a let down after reading all the reviews and watching videos, it was nothing like it suggested.
First off the desk people were very rude and not just a bad day rude but all week rude and condescending.
There was nothing to do with the kids at night because the clubhouse was closed at 5:00pm, so you couldn't play basketball or indoor pool table, sad.
If you like to drink and get hit on then this is the pl[... read more]ace for you, do NOT bring your kids. The a la Cart was a joke! first off it was buried in the corner upstairs where nobody goes. We did not get a seating until 8:30pm and did not actually get in until after 9:00pm. The food was no better than the buffet, not worth the hassle and the wait. I will say the beach is gorgeous and the sand nice and soft, lounge chairs were always available and it wasn't overcrowded. I have heard similar comments of other hotels in the Varadero area. I will visit Cuba again but not this area!

Muthu Playa Varadero: NOT A 4.5 STAR!
We came back from Muthu Playa Varadero on the 6th of January 2020. We decided to go to Cuba for New Years as we have never gone at that time before. Reading all the reviews we thought this would be a good choice. There are a lot of repeat customers, some that have been there as many as 12 times, but we couldn't figure out why!
My husband has an electric wheelchair, so the reason we chose this resort is because it is small and wheelchair accessible, also has elevators. On arrival they took[... read more] us to the "wheelchair accessible" room on the ground floor, it was the worst room we have ever been shown in over 20 years of travelling down south, 9 times to Cuba. The room was visibly covered in mold and was musty. There was no shower surround it was removed and not replaced, so if you were to take a shower the whole bathroom would be covered in water and run under the door into the room. It was as if they had started to renovate but didn't get back to it. We did not take that room, the ladies at the front desk especially Mayday were very accommodating, we were given a key to a room on the fifth floor to go and see if it was what we wanted. This was a much better room with Ocean View that we agreed to take. The room was good except the mattresses which are just not comfortable. The maid service was very good and our maid was also very accommodating. At this resort the only thing they stock the mini fridge with is water, no pop or beer.
The food quickly became tiresome, but the beach grill isn't too bad. You will not go hungry.
The pool and resort itself is quite nice and accessible, but there is a lot of repair needed at this resort to bring it up to a 4 star let alone a 4.5 star.
The beach was just beautiful, unfortunately it is not accessible for a wheelchair, they need to build board walk paths so that everyone can get to the beach.
On the 3rd day of our stay, all of a sudden you could not get into the buffet for dinner without lining up for at least 20 minutes. Once you got in you had to wait for someone to clean a table for you, and fight the crowds. My husband could not get around with his wheelchair as it was too crowded. I had mentioned this to some people we had met there, and they said this was happening because the resort is full. I don't accept that as an excuse, if you have more people you get more staff. They could not handle a full resort.
The first room we were given was in building 2 2018, beware of this room. The room we stayed in was in building 1, room 1419. The elevators work good.
All in all this is a 2.5 or 3 star resort. We did not get it that cheap, so I feel we did not get what we expected, I know it is Cuba, but we are not unfamiliar with Cuba.
I do want to mention that a couple of years ago we went to the Ocean Varadero El Patriarca not far from the Muthu Playa Varadero which is a true 4,5 star. We had the best food ever in all of the Caribbean. If we ever go back to Varadero Cuba we will go to El Patriarca.

Hotel Las Americas: Changes
I have stayed at this hotel many times. It is small and convenient as to places to eat, change money, find a cab. The accommodation is basic but always very clean. Breakfasts are good, though not extensive in variety. This time, the rooms were updated with new curtains and bedspreads.
The reason I choose this hotel is that it is one of the few city hotels that has a pool, and is still reasonably close to the centre. However, both the pool area and the reception area were absolutely rammed with[... read more] local day visitors, meaning that other than one's own room, there was nowhere to relax and read in quiet. The pool area was overcrowded, very noisy with drunken visitors and screeching children. The Melia, across the road , offers a beautiful pool where one can go instead, CUC 18 including your lunch, if you wish. But double the price to stay there. I was there during New Year week, (school holidays) so possibly at other times this would not be such a problem.

Grand Memories Varadero: Very disappointing.
Upon arrival we waited in line for way to long to be served (waiting at front desk for room).
We had asked to be close to the beach, and they were about to put us at complete opposite end of resort. My wife made a stink and they wanted to charge an extra 11 bucks per person per night because they said it was an upgrade(superior). Finally they caved in at on extra cost and gave us what we asked for. (by the way I visited standard rooms and superior rooms, they are exactly the same, inch per inch[... read more]) I won't talk about food or beach it is what it is. There are 100 apartments in each block, we were in block 21 and for 3 days we had no hot water. They sent me to a courtesy room to shower which was on other end of resort after waiting 3 hrs to free the room. New years eve party was a mess, no real organized location, count down was messed up due to ongoing CUBAN Dance in Theater. By 1am the festivities were all over this resort, but not one main location. Grand Memories was a huge let down. Very old building, needs lots of care. needs new management. Service was a 2......1 being very poor and 10 being excellent. A la cartes were a joke. No training as how to serve people, waited very long times for refills in drinks. DO NOT GO TO ITALIAN RESTAURANT. I will never go to that resort again ever.

Playa Costa Verde: Friendly resort
The rooms are a bit dated. However, they are very clean. The air conditioning worked perfectly and the water pressure in the shower was strong. We had a ground floor room, but had very few bugs. The cleaning staff kept our room very clean with fresh towels every day and plenty of bottled water.
The food was very good and there was always a large selection at the buffet. We enjoyed two a la carte dinners. The Italian restaurant was delicious. The Japanese restaurant was not only delicious but v[... read more]ery entertaining also. I would highly recommend both of these restaurants.
I would recommend Playa Costa Verde to friends.

Melia Cayo Coco: A relaxing vacation
Meliá Cayo Coco is an excellent resort. When we arrived and checked into our room that smelled of smoke, it was immediately exchanged for a non-smoking room. Our toilet stopped flushing one night and was fixed first thing in the morning. Food was tasty and there was plenty of variety. For someone with gluten-free diet, I had no problems choosing from a variety of meats, eggs, rice, and vegetable dishes. The a la carte restaurants were fantastic and fully prepared to accommodate dietary restric[... read more]tions. The pool and beach were clean and ran a variety of daily activities which were well attended. Morning Yoga, a gym workout, and a massage were other activities I enjoyed. Water sports were available at the adjacent resort and a bus or bicycle tour could be arranged. The entertainment staff were attentive and well acquainted with the guests because many were repeat visits. Evenings included pre-show local talents at a breezy lobby bar. The shows were of decent quality and there was a disco available starting at 11:00pm. So much to do... I would definitely return to this resort.

Muthu Colonial Hotel: Diamond club was a waste of money
Grounds: Everything was kept clean and well organized
Rooms: Ok. Room was kept cleaned and fridge filled every day. I am not sure if there were bed bugs, but we all had bed bugs bites all over our bodies.
Beach: Beautiful beach area with free paddle boats and kayaks. A bit a line up to get one, but we were able to get one every day. Downside: If you went to the beach out early in the morning (6:30 am) or stayed there after 4 pm, you will be bitten by sand fleas. Many people were itching and it[... read more] won't stop until you leave.
Staff: Very good and tried their best to please you
Food: Buffet was not the best. I have been in better resorts of the same category. Not too many selection. Fish was good. Often they run out of fruits.

Melia Cayo Coco: Dancing in Cuba
We went to Cuba over the week of new years eve and had a great time. The food, service, and entertainment made for a wonderful trip. Relaxing or fun was possible there. There is a dance club above the guest services desk that is open nightly from11pm-2am I would recommend this resort.

Hotel Roc Casa del Mar: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
The Good: The beach is beautiful. Crystal clear water and powder white sand. There are many lovely staff at the resort who are helpful and hardworking. The lobby is nice and Mike's Coffee is great! There are classic cars willing to take you around and a flea market in walking distance. The evening shows are entertaining
The Bad: Cuba has gotten worse in regards to resources and imports. The food is worse than before: the same thing each day, canned vegetables and tasteless meals. The a la ca[... read more]rtes serve the same thing as the buffet!
The Ugly: The resort overbooked and there were never any chairs at the beach or pool. We had to lay on the ground. The buffet was like the Hunger Games as people lined up and ran for the food. We had an issue with cockroaches in our room, no water bottles, dirty towels and my ring went missing. We both got ill and even after begging for a change and getting an upgrade, none of our issues were actually resolved. I'm so disappointed in this vacation and I'm never one to complain.
This is not a 4.5 star. I've been to many all inclusives. This is 3 star at best
We paid extra to stay in a suite. The door had been kicked in and the jamb wasn't replaced so it didn't lock properly, the air conditioner was broken (so was the fan) so the room was humid and dank.. there was black mold growing on the ceiling and on our pillows. There was no water in our room on arrival, the mini fridge was broken, and the toilet paper and water were only replaced when I complained. We were told the resort was fully booked and our room could not be changed, but we did not new m[... read more]old-free pillows.
The resort is advertised as having 5 bars, but they often only have one open at a time. The pool bar is advertised as 24 hours, but it ran out of alcohol by 2am most nights and the beer isn't cold at night because they stop using kegs in the evening and start using cans.
Of our group for 4, one person was terribly sick with food poisoning and two were otherwise afflicted...
We booked a snorkeling excursion, and when we arrived at the destination they had about 15 snorkels for 200 people. I complained, and I was told "This is communism; learn to share." I spoke to the SunWing rep at the resort, and she offered to refund us 2.5 pesos each for the $100 trip.
The beach was nice, but there were cigarette butts everywhere and we also found a used condom.
There is wifi in the lobby which costs $1 per hour. Only the resort manager can give you a password, and he offers the wifi free to anyone who will go online and leave a positive review then and there.
