Starfish Varadero: Everything about it is average

This resort was about what I expected - nothing fancy, a little underwhelming at times, but it grew on me. The food was not bad, the buffet could have used a little more variety and could have been hotter/warmer as opposed to cold by the time I got there. The a la carte restaurants were pretty good I'd say. Service could be better, but overall was acceptable. Eg. getting water bottles in the room everyday was not a given, had to ask multiple times for things at front desk, did not receive beach  [... read more]towels in our room, etc. The air conditioner didn't really work in our room, fortunately there wasn't many bugs so we just left the patio door open all day/night. Strangely, our room didn't have any pillows... The hot water worked for the most part, one day there didn't seem to be any though. The beach was nice, the pool was good (lack of swim up bar sucked though). Overall, I'd give it a 3.5 stars - you get what you pay for. Better service would have easily given it a 4.

Club Kawama: Very good, there is always but.....

Very good value for the money, except the room - no balcony, patio, terrace in standard room. You have to take room upgrade at the moment of booking, as it is very expensive when you arrive at the hotel, and not always the rooms are vailale

Resonance Blu Varadero: Beautiful Resort

Beautiful grounds. Rooms are decent but a bit dated. The food was excellent with a huge variety to choose from. Very large resort which I thought was great because you can get some exercise in .There was a wait time for drinks and the lobby bartenders were grouchy , bring a bubba cup so you don't have to drink out of the small plastic cups . Other than the grouchy lobby bartenders the resort was wonderful!.

My review is: I recommend to any family with younger kids (3-14) to go. Enjoy the beach, games, shows, pool, hot tub, and above all get a villa suite. Absolute! Food was good. Staff was great. My 4 year old had a blast! For the price, I felt very happy with our choice. Very safe and made lots of new friends. Went late March. Whether was raining for a bit but overall warm and some real nice sunny days. Special thanks to Maria at trip central for all the work and help.

Brisas Del Caribe: very pretty resort, fabulous beach

We were pleasantly surprised after reading some of the previous reviews. Eight of us, including 3 little ones went for 11 nights. Our first rooms were Not acceptable, because of location and bed placement. They couldn't move us that first night. We went back the next and the next days, and did get exactly what we wanted. But we did persevere. The food was just as expected. Not fancy, but good variety every night. Salad bar fresh, home made bread, assorted expensive cheeses. Kids loved the pasta  [... read more]and of course the ice cream and Desert stations. No one had upset tummies. We did go to the A la Carte Restaurants. You get 2 reservations per week. They were never crowded. Beautiful, attentive service, different food. The pools, and beach were superb. Good drinks at the abundance of bars. Watersports were easy to use. Catamaran, snorkle trip extra money, but worth it. The kids club was the Best. The gal who runs it, Margarita...is a real sweetheart. The kids loved her and looked forward to going. We travelled with Hola Sun. Our free day tour to the Belamar caves was Fantastic. Did not take the little ones, not suitable for elderly or very young. Also we really enjoyed Cubana Air. No luggage fees, or weight restrictions and a box meal included. Bonus. All and all, this was a great vacation at a budget price. If this is what you are looking for, then you will be pleased. If you have more expensive tastes, then pay more and be satisfied. One last thing, for us the shows started too late. 10pm is too late if you've been on the go all day. 9pm. Would be better. Grand Memories Varadero: Great resort!!!

The hotel and grounds are beautiful. The food was ok. You can always find something to eat even if it's at the large snack bar by the pool. The wifi is awe full and is not free. The front desk people are very rude and you can't use the phone in your room, nor can you get a call to your room. My family tried to call and it took over 3 hours to get through. Tipping is too expensive. You cannot get one or two dollars (CUC's) for tipping so you must tip with 3 or 5 dollars. No one has change and the [... read more] banks won't give you smaller bills than 3$. In the superior diamond club you have to beg to get water, beer and pop or tip large. This is supposed to be included in your everyday refills without tipping or begging. Otherwise a large and friendly resort. I would go back. The beach was awesome and clean. See you soon Cuba.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Beautiful resort

Despite bad publicity lately my sisters and I booked this resort. We were not disappoint red! Our room was clean and comfortable, beautiful, clean grounds, friendly staff, breathtaking beach and pool areas. The food wasn't always the greatest but we always managed to find something we liked. It's a huge resort so be prepared to do some walking. We'll worth what we paid and I would definitely not hesitate to go back!! :)

Starfish Jibacoa: Great place

Hotel was very clean , staff was always cleaning. Very impressed. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Side walks needed some repair but other then that grounds were well kept. Hedges were trimmed and very well maintained.

Grand Memories Varadero: Barcelo areans blancas varadaro

Great stay,friendliest staff ever,beach was amazing, food was average better at the solymar side though. Rooms could use some updating ie.new tubs and faucets crome worn off and pitted. Great pools but need regular cleaning seemed to be lacking in that area,the outside of the building could use a coat of paint to freshen it's tired look. Melia Marina Varadero: Great resort for the price

My husband and I went with my parents to this resort last week. We paid approximately $1,300 per person for 7 days. The food was great and the resort employees were very nice. The rooms could have been a little cleaner, as both our room and my parents had mildew in the bathrooms and both faucets had debris (I am guessing food) under the handles. Besides that, the resort was fantastic for the price. The guests on the other hand - Although many were considerate and decent, the behaviour we witnes [... read more]sed from some was unbelievable. We live in a big city and travel often, and I can say that I have never encountered such ignorant oblivious people in my life. The worst was in the buffet - pack your patience. We would wait until 30 minutes before it closed in order to avoid having to deal with the barbarians. This obviously does not reflect the resort, only society - Please and thank you go a long way.

Iberostar Origin Tainos: OK

The resort is small and old. The expectation will define how good this resort is. I stayed I Iberostar star Ensnachos and this is not to that level at all. Is small resort, the food is not great, however the service was good. No pool bar and 24 hour snack, we spent a lot of time in the town. For the money I paid I expected a lot more.

Hotel Los Cactus: Totally adequate

A decent layout with one pool and the usual Varadero lovely sandy beach. Plenty of chairs in both places. A slightly hidden jacuzzi that actually works was very pleasant. The food here and elsewhere in Cuba is improving all the time. There was always enough good food for most tastes. Some of the staff were a little less friendly than in past years. The WiFi cards one can purchase for 2 CUCs per hour didn't always work which I found a bit frustrating. For me, the most irritating thing was the unn [... read more]ecessarily loud music and shouting by the staff trying to get people to participate in various events. Most people seemed to want to relax and not be aurally pounded into submission.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Wonderful experience!

A wonderful resort! My boyfriend and I and another couple just returned from the Iberostar Laguna Azul on Sunday. The lobby is very inviting - there are always things going on! Magic shows, bands playing on the terrace, a pianist, etc. and there are always a great number of drinks to try from the Lobby Bar (my favourite bar - they had the best drinks!). Wonderful service! The buffet I found quite enjoyable as well! Again, great service. Going to Cuba for the first time, I did not have high expectations for the food but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! Most of the food had good flavour and everything was almost always labelled so you knew what you were eating. The pasta station at dinner and the omelette station at breakfast were my favourite! Make use of these stations! The only small complaint I had about the buffet were the options.They seemed to be the exact same food every single day, with only a few variations. So definitely make use of your 3 A La Carte dinners and the different stations to try different things! The rooms were..okay. Our room overlooked the small pool so it was nice and quiet at nights where we weren't up late, or afternoons where we wanted to sleep. They were cleaned everyday, given fresh towels everyday, and the mini bar was restocked every other. However, they are VERY musty. Be prepared to smell like the inside of a closet all day and all your clothes needing a good wash when you return home, and also be sure to use your balcony to dry anything because nothing will dry in that room! Another thing about the rooms - if you are travelling as a couple, make sure you request, or your travel agent request, one king/queen. We were both travelling as couples and we both ended up with 2 twin beds. Not the end of the world, but a little annoying our first night. My friend tried to switch her room a few times with no luck - so try and get this figured out before you arrive (if this is possible). All in all - a great first Cuba experience! Make sure you do the Catamaran tour - everyone must see Cayo Blanco!

Brisas Del Caribe: Just an ok resort

While most of the staff was amazing there were a few that were very short and rude. When asked for help, some got angry and walked away or shooed us away from them because if the language barrier and lack of understanding. The 24 hour snack bar was a joke. We didn't have to use it very often but when we did we had to wait almost an hour for food. Not something any patent wishes to go through when traveling with 3 kids. The resort itself was kept somewhat clean in respect to landscaping but as fa [... read more]r as garbage and cleanines in the halls and walls....it was just plain dirty. 2 out of 7 days there our room was not given water and when we asked for it we were told we had to buy it! Not the answer I was looking for while on an all inclusive trip where you aren't supposed to drink the local water. We all know nobody goes to Cuba for the food but we had very little selection at our buffets. If and when we needed an Internet card we either had to wait anywhere between 20 minutes and hour or go to a neighboring resort to purchase one. The entertainment staff was great. They were constantly engaging with guests and making sure they had a great time. Our sunwing representative was awesome!!! She helped us through a lot and was very good at her job. She truly went above and beyond!

Los Delfines: Poor choice

Would not go back. Run down hotel. Nothing like its pics. Poor food. Staff nit friend ly at all. Just overall not as advertised. Tried to make the best of it. Stores ae friendlier than the hotel staff.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: A Great Time

Beach was amazing. Weather was great. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The resort is very big, as you're able to use both Arenas Blancas and Solymar facilities. The food was only ok, but that's the norm for Cuba.

Sol Varadero Beach: Sol Sirenas Coral -- Cuba 2016 -- WORTH IT!

My boyfriend and I just got back from a week in Varadero. It was our first time to Cuba and we both agreed that we would go back in a heart beat!! I won't lie ... the place (sol sirenas coral) needs a little TLC. BUT, we knew before going that it wasn't a five star, and we were prepared to make the best out of a bad situation if necessary. We didn't have to... the service was good! the room was great, the beach was great, the pool was great... What more could you want ?! If you're looking for a  [... read more]luxurious spot where staff serves you hand over feet with the most amazing food and drinks, this is NOT the place for you.. But if you're looking for a comfortable, safe and welcoming spot to lay your head at night, and a clean bathroom you won't have any issues. My boyfriend and I have both stayed at five star resorts in other Countries but would gladly stay here again!

Villa Tortuga: Beautiful landscape

The place was very nice and relaxing. No big crowds not to much partying. We stayed in a bungalow and the view was awesome. The grounds are very well maintained and the view was fantastic. The food was ok almost the same thing everyday. The alacart was very good. We had a very relaxing awesome stay.

Mar Del Sur: Quite an alright resort!

For the price we paid, we found the hotel to be more than adequate, and actually very nice, indeed! It is also in a great, central location, close to the beach and very near the main tourist area (main street section) of the town of Varadero! We stayed in the newly renovated Block 20, and enjoyed a huge suite with two bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, along with a large kitchen (not required, given the all inclusive hotel). (We understand rooms in some of the other blocks may not have been renovated, so [... read more] this might have been a problem for others staying at the hotel.) The room was much larger than we needed, and there was enough warm (if not hot) water for five people most of the time. The food was very good, even if a bit repetitive, with enough choice to satisfy our needs. The pool area was clean, and the nightly entertainment was good, if not fantastic. For a 2.5 star hotel, it was excellent value and we would certainly recommend the hotel to anyone not looking to stay in one of the "gated" luxury resorts further down the Varadero peninsula!

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: A relaxing family March Break

We would recommend this hotel to others. The food was better than expected given the reviews about Cuba food. The service was good, bar-service always friendly. The beach was just OK - not very wide, very crowded - had to get up very early to reserve a lounger - did not love this part. We noticed that the beaches to the west were nicer.
