Hotel Los Cactus: Two years - two enjoyable trips!

My husband and I stayed at Breezes the last two years (during the Ontario March Break) along with two other couples. Having been to Cuba 10 times, I can safely say that the weather is always fantastic at this time of year. Two years ago we stayed in the Junior Suites and this year we stayed in the Gardenview suites. The Gardenview suites were definitely nicer and we had a great location in E block just around the corner from the pool and the buffet. The Junior Suites are in the same building as the disco although the noise from the neighbouring resort is actually worse than the Breezes' disco. The food was pretty good. There seemed to be plenty to choose from, few line ups, and lots of good choices on the grill. We also enjoyed the a la cartes as well as the Air Transat dinner. The omelette line moved quickly in the morning and overall I would say that the food in Cuba improves each year. I think with any buffet you need to be careful what you eat but none of the six of us were sick and we had more than enough healthy foods to choose from. The beach is amazing! The water was a bit cooler than I remember from last year but still very nice to swim in. You do not need any beach shoes in this area. We went snorkelling right off the beach and saw a few fish, including a large barracuda, as well as some neat shells, etc. For about 20 CUC's (perhaps negotiable - we didn't go) you can get a cataraman ride further out to snorkel along the reef. If you enjoy walking the beach, you can walk safely for miles. The resort also purchased brand new beach chairs since last year. There was some damage to the shade huts from last year as there didn't seem to be as many. We were told that there was a storm a few months ago and some of them were ripped out. The beach volleyball court was also no longer on the beach. It was in behind the dune line but they were planning to move it back to the beach eventually. It too was damaged in the storm. In the evening we enjoyed some of the shows and hanging out at the lobby bar. We especially enjoyed singing along at the piano and on Karaoke nights. The tennis court(s?) looked nice as did the basketball court but we didn't try them out. We would go back to this resort! We had a great time!

Grand Memories Varadero: Great vacation

We stayed for 5 days and enjoyed ourselves greatly. The resort is lovely especially the pools. The rooms are clean and spacious and the staff is very pleasant .The beach is beautiful.the food is fine but can never compare to what we have in Canada. The flight was quick and the cab to and from airport was easy and good valve.

Melia Las Americas: A great golf trip!

We (eight guys) recently spent a week at Melias Las Americas for a golf vacation. It was out first trip to Cuba and we had a terrific time! The staff at the resort were great, particularly Ozladys (sp?) and Alberto at the swim up bar! We played the golf course on seven consecutive days and really enjoyed it. The fairways were firm and provided a good roll, the wind made everything challenging and hole 16 lived up to its reputation. Melia Las Americas: Golf fanatic's hotel

Beautiful inside and outside, nice patios, great views, helpful staff, incredible magician, short stroll to the pro shop, unlimited golf awesome, beach has lots of chairs and great staff. Pick me up drink is my favorite!

Club Karey: could be better

Rooms were ok even after we asked for another. ala carte was bad. Worst pina coladas, from a slushie machine. Maid service was good. Should have been told about the shuttle service. Sunwing service was excellent.

Resonance Blu Varadero: a beautiful spot

The staff was excellent, very friendly and happy to serve us. The common buildings were nice and well maintained. we had the honeymoon suite right on the water and it was spectacular. What a view !!! The night shows were fun and the parties were good.

Playa Caleta: Another Awesome Cuba vacation

Overall the resort was good, the female dining staff didn't seem to be overly friendly, always scowling, although the men were always eager to help out, especially Simon - a huge THANK YOU to him - always full on energy, eager to help out and had a permanent smile. It was only an inconvenience for us however, if my kids were younger (mine were 19 & 15), it would be difficult to sit under an umbrella and watch them play in the surf - no umbrella are at the surf area, although there is a few lounge chairs but there is no shelter from the hot sun - limited umbrellas are only available at the top of the beach with NO view of the ocean surf. Along the pier is great snorkling especially for beginner snorklers like my family. However, I found the sand was full of broken shells and it hurt my feet to walk along this part of the beach. We thought the room was better than expected but still a typical room for a Cuba stay. The fridge and safe worked and the A/C in our room worked fantastic, although the one in the kids room didn't work. The patio door would stick but my husband and 19 year old son had no difficulty opening them. The elevators were difficult at most times. We were on the 2nd floor and often times we choose to take the stairwell instead of using the elevators. There was a 10peso charge for the beach towel, this amount was refunded when the towels were returned. Often times they had run out of beach towels, so we never borrowed any in our week's stay. We went on a Jeef Safari Adventure with EcoTours and it was AWESOME!!!!! I would recommend this excursion - we had gone on a river tour, snorkled, saw the caves, horse back rode and had a great meal on a Cuban farm, it was well worth the money spend! I look forward to going again. Overall, we had a FANTASTIC Cuba holiday. This is our 3rd vacation in beautiful Cuba and we will return.

Grand Memories Varadero: Wonderful Experience

We had a wonderful stay at the Grand Memories Varadero. The staff were friendly, the pools were great and we were never hungry. The beach was nice (but it was always windy). We had a wonderful housekeeper that took care of all of our needs.

Palma Real: Good resort!

It's a good resort for the price. The room is clean and room service is good. The evening entertainment events are excellent! The flipside is that you need to walk a few blocks to get to the beach. Some staff at the 24 hrs snack bar are rude.

Palma Real: Great resort!

Had an amazing time. Beach is right next to the resort. Bar and clubs are also right beside the hotel. Atmosphere and environment was 10/10. Food was also fantastic, there were a couple nice restaurants near the hotel if you wanted a change from the A LA carte. Would definetly reccomend this place to anyone and everyone

Starfish Varadero: Pleasantly Surprised!

We had never travelled to Cuba during past vacations due to the negative responses from other travellers. With the recent changes being considered in Cuba and the addition of the resort to the Sunwing Signature packages we decided it was time to try to visit the island and determine on our own what the island has to offer. I followed a few resorts and watched as the reports for Aquas Azulas increased in ratings from poor to good. The food was plentiful and the atmosphere was relaxed with abundant entertainment that catered to various genres of musical talents. The coffee requires improving in the buffet area but thankfully the coffe bar in the main building was superb. The consistency with coffee would help as many Canadians really enjoy a good cup of coffee especially in the morning with their breakfast! Drinks could be improved especially they way in which they are served- flimsy cups so I would suggest bringing your own refillable Insulated container. We are pleased with our selection and hope to return again one day to the beautiful island of Cuba.

Gran Caribe Sun Beach: Best beach!

Resort was great, nothing fancy but totally adequate, great bang for your buck. Beach was amazing, a close walk across the street with a bar right there. Went on March break and it still wasn't crowded - always space with shade, chairs etc. Room was nice and clean. A/C didn't work but we didn't complain because it wasn't needed as it was really comfortable at night with windows open. Grand Memories Varadero: Great family spot!

The pool was lovely and right outside our door. Loved the long walks on the beach and incredibly friendly staff - all family members were able to do 'their own thing' - from early morning walks on the beach, to family meals together, to pool time and snorkelling

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Second visit!

Great service, great beach and wonderful location. We decided on this resort once more for the excellent value. The staff is amazing and friendly and we would definitely return once more in the coming years.

Grand Memories Varadero: Was too crowded

The hotel was fine. The food was good. The staff was excellent! The grounds were well kept. The beach was fantastic as always. Only one day that we couldn't swim because of jelly fish brought in by a storm. My concern was that there were too many people and not enough staff to manage them.

Starfish Jibacoa: Cuba Vacation

The hotel was better than expected. Beautiful grounds and friendly people. Food at hotel was repetitive, but we did not starve. Visited Havana and spent whole day there and went to evening show at Tropicana...wonderful history and entertainment. The jeep tour was a full day of activity, from a boat trip, snorkeling, cave swim and farm visit and even horseback riding...jam packed entertaining day! Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Beautiful spot

My husband and I had a great stay at this resort. The staff were great and the food was actually decent. The buffet had a great selection of fresh meats and seafood which they grilled while you waited, most nights they had a pasta bar and the desserts and breads were always fresh. The grounds were nice, always clean but require some maintenance in areas. The beach was great, lots of loungers( get there early though), great bar staff and lots of activities to participate in. The resort doesn't ha [... read more]ve a disco but there always seemed to be a nightly activity to keep you entertained. The only thing I actually complained about while there ( which is a silly thing) was the strength of the drinks....way to much alcohol for my liking. According to the bar tenders....alcohol is cheaper than mix!

Be Live Turquesa: Nice Resort good balance between price and quality

The grounds were nice, pool was a good size that would work for families or anyone else. The beach, as in all of Varadero, was excellent. Food in the buffet was better than anywhere else we have been in Cuba but that is just OK (except for the Italian A La Carte restaurant which was really good). The service was friendly throughout the resort The room itself was better than most: clean, spacious, fairly updated and comfortable beds. Villa Tortuga: Good value for the money at Villa Tortuga

The rooms are weak (tired and worn, mildew etc ), but that was the only dissapointing feature of the resort. The restaurant and bars were adequate, the pool was beautiful and clean, and the beach is simply gorgeous. It is an easy walk to the restaurants and shops in town. The staff were kind and friendly.

noliDUO Havana Varadero: Very nice hotel

Very nice hotel. Excellent location. One of the best rooms we have ever had (7th floor Colonial building). Beautiful lobby. Included breakfast was plentiful and good. Snacks in the lobby restraint were ok as was the lower level restraint. The service through the hotel was excellent.
