Riu Lupita: A difficult hotel to rate

Riu Lupita is a difficult hotel to rate because it depends on what you like. To me, the beach is the most important thing and the price. I never have expectations about the food or amenities, and for sure I don’t care if the TV works or not. Travel: First week of June 2025 This is a small resort, which for me is great, but if you like mega resorts, this one is not for you. Price: We paid CAD 1,300 for flight, transfer and hotel. If we had waited it could have been CAD 1,100 each and RIU Palace was CAD 1,800 (for reference) Beach: This was my 3rd visit to Playa del Carmen. The sargassum is a down. We were able to get in the ocean the first day and 20 minutes on the last day. I came to the realization that I prefer Cuba with their ok food and any other limitations (less expensive and way better beaches) To get to the beach you must ride a bus (12 minutes). The bus also stops at the entrance of the town. The ride is not a big deal. My problem is that 6 out of 7 days we did the ride to find out we could not swim, either because of the sargassum or red flag. Pools: I don’t like public pools. I have one at my building and I have used it once. The hotel has 3 pools. The main pool is smaller than what you see in the pictures. The best one is the adult or the relaxation one. All pools are heat it, which makes no sense to me. They are clean. Food: Buffet – it is ok to good. You will not go hungry. Sometimes they don’t replenish dishes so if you see something you like, take it. Restaurants – Nothing special. The mediterranean and Mexico were ok. The steak at the beach club was not worth the bus ride. I prefer the buffet for sure. The room was perfect. Everything works as expected. I like firm beds. Employees were friendly, professional and extremely attentive. Fidelia at the buffet is a sweetheart. But again, all the employees are excellent. People, Tip, just because it is an all inclusive, it doesn’t mean the tips are included. A USD or 20 MXP it is not a lot of money for us. We spend more than that just in coffee here. Note to the hotel: 1. Why have fried plantain for breakfast and never for lunch or dinner? 2. Turn off the heat in the pools. 3. 20 USD/daily bicycle rental? That’s a bit too much I have to insert here a review that has nothing to do with the hotel. Lots of utube videos recommend a restaurant on calle 2nd in town – La Tarraya – Do not go there, it is a tourist trap. on the top worth meals ever for what we paid. I will write a more detailed review on google or trip advisor.

Selection Riviera Cancun: Great vacation

This was our 4th visit to this resort (2 times when it was Azul). We love it partly because everything is easy to walk to and we enjoy the swim-up rooms. The service, food, bars and pools are of the highest standard. The staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome. This last trip the beach was covered in seaweed making swimming in the ocean difficult. This is not always the case however. Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Disappointed

Our experience at this specific resort is so DISAPPOINTING compared to our previous experience with Bahia Principe Luxury - Esmeralda in the Dominican Republic. We had a great time in Punta Cana so we thought we would have the same experience. Unfortunately, we were so wrong. The construction should have been disclosed to us when we first connected with the 2 Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal Customer Care via email a week before our arrival since we are a big group and there are few people in our group that are handicap and unable to walk far and take stairs. We requested for specific buildings to accommodate our physical disabilities but we were not even accommodated nor given better options. The beach is disappointing too especially by the infinity pool. We can't really enjoy the pool nor the restaurant by it because you will inhale the fumes from the tractors that hauls the seaweed from that beach. Basically, the view from the infinity pool are the workers and the tractors cleaning the seaweed at the beach. Also, the ala carte restaurants are so hard to get reservations through the app for our group of 16. I was told at the front desk that I should have been referred to a Groups/Events Representative which was not even suggested in the beginning. When we took our chance to go to one of the ala carte restaurants, it was almost empty and yet the app says it's full. When we asked if they can accommodate us, they said they can as long as we purchase 2 bottles of wine for our group which cost $100 usd. Also, we were told to pay $8 per coconut if we want one. Food at the buffet is nothing to write home about and it's mediocre at best. The swim up bar at the main pool area closed early because they ran out of alcohol. We also have bats and cockroaches in the rooms. The doors to the connecting rooms are literally screwed shut so we can't even access the other room from the inside. For the amount of money we paid for this all-inclusive, this is not a Luxury resort at all. This is not all-inclusive. I will not recommend this to anyone. This resort ruined the other Bahia resorts for us.

Dreams Puerto Morelos Resort and Spa: Not the greatest resort

The grounds were beautiful but the beach had lots of seaweed and tractors taking it away so you smelled diesel.The chairs were uncomfortable as well on the beach.The adult area was pretty,chairs comfortable and pool was warm.They need more umbrellas ,not enough shade for people.The food was great in the restaurants.The buffet was great for breakfast but no fish at all at lunch only meat. We got woken up three times in middle of night by drunk people ,o ce someone knocked on our door at 2:30.Nob [... read more]ody patrolling the floors.You also are stranded there,had to take a taxi to go to any town where as other Hyatt’s you can walk out the door and walk around.

Platinum Yucatan Princess: Beautiful Stay

Absolutely outstanding stay! The hotel was spotless, the staff were friendly and attentive, the food was delicious, with great presentation and the amenities exceeded expectations. Truly impressed and will definitely be coming back again soon with my husband!

Dreams Puerto Morelos Resort and Spa: Amazing Resort

Very excellent my kids enjoyed a lot their services,restaurants and room services.especially sports bar they enjoyed everyday of our vacation,every movement is very special to us highly recommended for those who have kids

Riu Palace Mexico: Great place

It is great place to go for vacation, all 5 stars. I would like to thank to everyone who is working at this hotel, we had amazing experience staying there. It was our second time at this resort. It was our trip to celebrate my husband 60th birthday and I have emailed to resort informing and asking to prepare some surprise. Everything was done perfect. Sandos Playacar Beach Resort: Not what I expected

I recently stayed at this hotel and had a mixed experience. On the positive side, the hotel was impeccably clean, the room accommodations were large and inviting which made for a comfortable stay. However, the food was disappointing and didn’t meet our expectations. The only restaurant that was good was the French. We have been to Mexico many times and we chose to go back because their food was always great. Not this time. The staff were pleasant but not particularly engaging, only if they are t [... read more]rying to sell you the upgrades. The family section lacked entertainment. You only had the music from the pool and that’s it. Most of the entertainment staff seemed to be focused on the Elite areas of the resort, and unless you pay extra for “Elite” status, you miss out on a lot. The layout of the resort is another drawback. The family section is located at the far end of the property, a good 10–15 minute walk from the beach — longer if you’re carrying all your beach gear under the scorching sun. While trolleys are available, they run every 30 minutes and fill up fast. If you’re not assertive, you may not get a seat. All in all, I found this hotel to be overpriced for the quality of accommodations and food offered. My family and I had higher expectations and unfortunately, we will not be returning.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Very Underwhelming

The room was clean, however located right beside another resorts sewage station and construction noise. Evening entertainment was very limited and entry level. Food was acceptable but not great. There was more vultures trying to sell their privilege package than staff ensuring you were being looked after-very annoying. Front end customer service was very short and disengaged.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Bahía Sian Kaan

I’d highly recommend Sian Kaan for anyone looking for an adults only resort. It was compact and intimate with excellent service. The staff all seem to be well trained and attentive. The beach on Akumal and Tulum side were covered in seaweed emanating a nasty odour. That was the only downside. It’s all 5 star minus the beach.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Stay away from the fruit

Got terribly sick last 3 days from food poisoning I believe from the fruit at the buffet:( some pools couldn’t find a lounger by 9am All restaurants except Italian a/c barely working and no fans so bring something with you! Lots of sargassum so no beach swimming

Iberostar Waves Tucan: Your Dream Vacation

Great accommodations, very convenient layout of all facilities, huge variety and tasty food, helpful and polite personnel. Very good night shows and activities. Brilliant idea to have adult only pool separately from big pool. Great beach with umbrellas. Jungle at the middle is a gem. We would definitely visit again.

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Will Return

We loved the resort -- the staff were absolutely amazing, especially our maid Sebastian who went above and beyond to decorate our room for my daughter's birthday - he made things really special for us. The entertainment was the best we've seen and we have been to a lot of all inclusive's. We loved our room and we loved the monkeys and wildlife on the resort. The food could be better but there was always something to have.

Dreams Jade Resort and Spa: Amazing Resort

This is my second time to this resort, The rooms are great, the shops are nice they should drop the prices in the shops extremely expensive, the restaurants are nice I prefer the buffet which is great when it's open. the pools are nice, my favorite is the 24hr café they make the best cappuccino's, iced coffee, smoothies. I didn't have anything to complain about last year and nothing to complain about this year.

Grand Sirenis Mayan Beach: A little disappointing

Family of 6. 3 rooms booked. Buffet for breakfast lunch and dinner were good. Wish the dinner buffet would switch up themes as there’s only one buffet for dinner. When we arrived we went to Book restaurants and they had nothing available. Which was super disappointment because we were there celebrating a birthday. Which they knew and did nothing for or about. The menus for the restaurants were not great either. AC stopped working In one of the rooms. It took 3 days to finally move rooms. Resort is big but leads you to a whole lot of nothing. Beach was disappointing I know that’s not in their control but the pictures online were still very deceiving and they weren’t really doing much to clean up UNLESS you are a member of course and their side of the beach is spotless…Rooms were ok. Ants everywhere. No hot water in our last day as we all had to take freezing showers to be ready for the airport. I believe there was still none when we left. Pool service was very few and far between every single day. Tip or no tip. Pools were ok. Nothing crazy. All of them quite far apart. We didn’t visit one pool they had at all. The resort is big but then the pool areas for sitting around the pools are very small? If that makes sense. We had to be up at 730 To get a spot you really want. The monkeys were adorable if you get to see them so that was a highlight. Very far from the airport which we knew as we’ve stayed at the Bahia principe akumal but for some reason this travel felt so long. It was going to take 2.5 hours back to the airport and getting up at 5am for that transportation or of course pay $50 for private 6am transport and it take 1.5 so we paid it obviously. They do have a room tax of $17 USD when you check in. I also paid the departure tax before arriving in Mexico which I have to say I’ve NEVER done. No one asked me about it … so that was $140 for all 6 of us probably down the drain. All in all won’t be back but we never double dip resorts anyways but definitely the more disappointing one.

Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya: The Best All Inclusive

Secrets Akumal was a lovely escape with a long beach and three different pools. Lots of great food options. Excellent personable service everywhere on the resort. Drinks were good quality and the resort was easy to find our way around. Overall great experience.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Bahiya Principe sian Kaan

Catalonia Yucatan: Great Resort!

I recently stayed at Catalonia Yucatán Beach during a solo vacation in Cancun, and overall, it was a beautiful and memorable experience. That said, the room service was excellent—they cleaned and set the room perfectly every day, which made a big difference. One of the bigger challenges was around the restaurant access. Catalonia Yucatán Beach shares facilities with Catalonia Riviera Maya, and it wasn’t always clear which restaurants we were allowed to go to. This led to some frustrating moments, especially since many of the friends I made were staying at the Riviera Maya side, and we often couldn’t dine together due to access restrictions. This lack of clarity and limitation definitely took away from the experience. Additionally, the Mexican restaurant on site wasn’t quite up to the mark in terms of food quality. Despite these issues, the people, atmosphere, and beautiful location made it a truly special trip. With a few improvements to the room quality and better communication around restaurant access, this hotel could be even better.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Amazing Resort

This resort was truly amazing as me and my friend had the best time. The resort is beautiful. What really made this resort so great is the staff. The staff were so nice and helpful which made my stay special. The entertainment team was excellent and were a lot of fun! You also get to visit the other resort on property which is great because you get to explore and not just be stuck on your resort.

Akumal Bay Beach and Spa Resort: Comfortable, peaceful atmosphere!

Stayed May 9-16th. Party of 6. Don't let the peacefulness and tranquility fool you. This resorts management and staff are top notch. They are seriously committed to their jobs and their guests satisfaction. Many went out of thier way to walk us over to whatever location or service we were inquiring about. Lots of cozy private seating nooks around the resort. Food at all venues was excellent, drinks and coffee as well.Seating at pool was limited as was shade. Beach was beautiful but be prep [... read more]ared to rise early for that special spot with shade. We had a few days with seaweed drifting in but the beach teams worked hard to clear. This did not spoil our swims. Ìf you àre a snorkelers you will love this right off the beach. Lots of varied sea life. We all loved our stay and will be back.
