Gran Muthu Rainbow Cayo Guillermo: Nice and disappointing

Upon arrival after a long day caused by a storm delay, we were greeted with a room with no hot water. Lack of hot water became a prominent issue throughout the entire 2 week trip. On the 6th day we finally got hot water. A couple of days later we lost our lights in the room. It took the hotel 15hours to move us to another room, after I occupied the front desk and demanded to be move. They have a lovely pool and beach. The people and workers were wonderful. Hotel Playa Paraiso: Very poor resort

I advise no body go this resort No bread, no water, no wine, the napkins was toilet paper, sometimes no hot water but flys you can have a lot above the food, horrible THE TRIPLE CENTRAL IT’S GUILTY TO SOLD RESORTS LIKE THIS

Iberostar Coral Esmeralda: Good resort

Hotel is nice. Buffet is good. A la carte restaurants were not good. The beach is nice but not enough chairs. The rooms are nice. The snack bar was good with fresh pizza and other snacks. The bartenders are great!

Melia Cayo Coco: Best resort around

Our second trip to the Melia Cayo Coco and they did not disappoint. Easy beach access, not over crowded and the greatest staff you could ask for. Great day trip on the catamaran to snorkel on the reef.

Iberostar Coral Esmeralda: Quiet vacation

We spent 7 days at Coral Esmeralda and don't have any complaints. If you've been to Cuba before, you come with lower expectations than other countries. They have limited supplies and resources, but we never felt like we were missing anything. We brought our own condiments for meals and although there was not a lot of variety, we never went hungry. No music around the beach or pools so it's not very lively, but you do have the option to go over to the sister resort for more action. Beach is absolutely perfect. Entertainment is extremely limited. If you are going for a quiet, affordable beach vacation, this might be a great spot.

Grand Aston Cayo Paredon Beach Resort: Amazing resort

The hotel is new and very nice. 4 pools, the beach is amazing, the staff are very nice. Just there was food shortage. A La carte restaurants were great as well. All rooms are great and all buildings are close to everything. The drive from the airport was 20-30 min.

Grand Aston Cayo Paredon Beach Resort: Could use some work

We stayed for a week with family. We are a family that travels a lot and this is our fifth visit to Cuba. Pros - Food was typical Cuba which is why it is in the pros. We had rolling shortages and some pretty creative dishes. I only had one item that I didn't eat, everything else was as expected. If food or drinks are important, don't go to Cuba. There were no slushy drinks, no pop at all and some strange things to make up for it. - The resort grounds are very nice and very well taken c [... read more]are of. Except for the pools and the area around them, everything was very clean. - With only one exception, all the staff were awesome and seemed very happy to be there. There were a few that stood out, unfortunately we don't have their names. The rooms were nice and the view (we had an ocean view) was as close to perfect as you can get. - There is a restaurant near the lighthouse that is not connected with the resort but is awesome. You can get a ride from the resort. It, of course, is not part of the all-inclusive, but the prices are good and the food/service was awesome. - The beach is nice, as with most of Cuba. Lots of options for shade if you want. You can snorkel off the beach and see lots of fish including one very large fish that was about 3 feet long. - We flew Sunwing. Our rep seemed very knowledgeable and seemed to have anyone you could think of on speed dial. Cons - Could use some updating. This is a fairly new resort, but could use some paint in spots. - Pools are not vacuumed as we would normally see which was evident from the algae on some water inlets and sand at the bottom of stairs and around the pools that were present very early in the morning, a sign they are not being taken care of as good as they could. - Info we had said 3 a la cartes but we were only allowed to book two. The Asian was awesome, with great food and great service. The Tex-Mex was the complete opposite. The food was cold, and the service was subpar. For the first time, we left before finishing our meal. - Smoking is allowed on the resort and you will find it everywhere, inside and out (except for food areas). - We had a couple of issues in the room. Our fridge was broken. It took two trips down a few days apart to get it resolved. Our safe was never able to be locked and was not looked at by maintenance as promised. - Some of the hotel rooms are above the lobby and as a result can be loud. We were in the section over from above the lobby and found it noisy, but only on a few occasions were we woke up by the noise, including a group of young people out partying at 3 am. - There were many lines, more than we have seen anywhere else. 1 hour for a hot dog and 2 hours for a pizza. There were even lines at the buffet. My issue wasn't as much the lines, but some guests felt entitled enough that following the lines was not for them. I've said before, that adults are usually the problem. - It was obvious that they were short of staff. Some services were not seen or not as much as we have become used to. One example is no one running drinks at the pools or beach. As a result, we drank way less and also tipped less. For the first time ever we came back with most of our tip money. Many of the problems we ran into, alone wouldn't be a huge problem, but there were many. I see them all as management issues, not that of the employees. Unfortunately, there were enough that we will not return to this resort and cannot recommend it. We brought many giveaway items and took recommendations from someone we know from Cuba. My recommendation is to bring toiletries, over-the-counter meds, feminine hygiene products, clothing and kids toys. We brought almost $200 worth of giveaway items. We tipped in both Canadian and US dollars. When tipping with Canadian money, be prepared to change coins to bills for the staff. They cannot spend coins so we were often asked to change some into bills. We happily did and even tipped as part of the transaction (i.e., $18 change for $20 bill).

Melia Costa Rey: In need of some serious maintenance

Having been to the resort previously, we thought it would be a safe bet to go back. unfortunately we were wrong. Upon arrival at the hotel, the room was not made up, toilet was filthy, no bath towels and no toilet paper. Other buildings had no hot water, no electricity. Daily shortages of some alcohol - Gin and rum...yes rum which the country manufactures! I went to the gift shop and bought my own to use!! On the good side, the beach is beautiful and the beach side bars were stocked and very happy to serve us. The food was good and serving staff were wonderful. The snack bar staff were miserable and not friendly at all.

Grand Aston Cayo Paredon Beach Resort: Beautiful place!

We loved this resort. The rooms, beach, main areas and grounds were all very nice and well maintained. The staff was always helpful, polite and accommodating to the best of their abilities. Some long lines for the buffet and other food items could be handled with improved planning and limits per person put into effect. Smiles and best efforts were everywhere!

Hotel Playa Coco: Very dated resort

Worst vacation I’ve ever been on, everything was lacking, from toilet paper to towels, no soft drinks at all dirty and the smell of humidity was everywhere, mosquitoes were ravaging everyone, cigar lounge was closed most of my stay, when open they didn’t have any good cigares. I don’t know how Sunwing sends people to this resort.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Relaxing Resort

Grand Muthu Imperial Now that we have returned from our recent holiday at the Grand Muthu Imperial from the 31 Jan – 7 Feb 2024, I want to express our gratitude for the hospitality and professionalism of all the staff at this amazing resort. Vila Gale Cayo Paredon: Vila Gayle

Hotel was above average for this area.The grounds kept well and great beach and pool areas .Drinks in the lobby and coffee bar great as well. Food in the buffet pretty good as well as the pizza bar.( Note: no condiments around anywhere including butter so bring your own if desired). Water in rooms limited to 3/day and toilet paper scarce. Also there is no place to get money out from this hotel so bring lots of small denominations(American/ CDN) for tipping. Valentin Cayo Cruz: Great Resort

We had a lovely relaxing time at the Valentin. The rooms were clean and lovely, no issues. There was a mini fridge restocked with water daily. Had new towels every day. Would recommend bringing face cloths and toilet paper, while we didn't run out, came close. Lobby bar and other public washrooms ran out once or twice. We would just go back to the room. Beach was beautiful - when the tide is high, it's great for lounging, not so much for walking. Pools are lovely too. We had no issues finding chairs at either the pool or the beach. Wouldn't hurt to get up early if you wanted a particular spot. There was always beach towels to exchange. Would recommend bringing some larger bills to change for locals - either US or CDN - $5,$10,$20 - it was our understanding they cannot exchange the smaller bills or coins at the bank. We were asked daily about exchanging $$. The staff were all lovely and working very hard. The food was to be expected and as we read in prior reviews, there are shortages and should be expected. There were eggs only one day, not a lot of fruit. The cheese sandwiches at the snack bar were delicious. We never went hungry and the A la carts were quite nice. You need to book those in the mornings. There was lots to drinks, the juice is from packages. There were a couple excursion options, a city tour and catamaran tour. We didn't do either, but heard they were nice. This resort is quite remote, would be driving an hour or two to do anything. Overall, we had a great deal and the goal was to lounge and relax and it was exactly that.

I am going back.Its my second time, celebrating my birthday feb 14.I was sooo happy.Very safe.Wonderful people.Cannot wait to go back.Great entertainment.Wonderful weather.Delicous food.Very clean.Happy energy.

Grand Aston Cayo Paredon Beach Resort: Great resort, service needs some improvement.

the hotel itself was amazing, new, and clean, lots of pools, and the beaches were what you would expect in Cuba. I think they lack staff to accommodate the volume of guests or it's maybe because it's still fairly new that the staff are still learning their new jobs. not enough towels on a daily basis, not enough room keys, you never know if they will run out of beer or food that you like, one day they have it, the next day it's gone.

Grand Aston Cayo Paredon Beach Resort: Nice resort, staff and food just ok

The hotel itself and the rooms are nice. Hotel was overbooked. Not enough chairs at the beach or pool someday for everyone. Pizza,fries and hot dog lines were over an hour long. I’m not fussy at all with Cuba and their food but this place takes the cake as the worse it’s been for food. I’ve been to Cuba 5 times. Staff seems upset even know we tipped plentifully. Will not return.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Where do we start???????

We are not ones to complain. In fact we've never written a negative review on any of our vacations though I know some deserved it. In this case we feel we have to. We chose Cuba fully aware of the pitfalls. Limited food and shortages in supply. So when we arrived and found no toilette paper in our room or in the public bathrooms anywhere on the resort we accepted that. No problem!! Wine only in a la carte restaurants, no problem. No beer!!!!!! Ok that was a problem but it was only for a short period of time, so just a little problem. We weren't there for the food, even the drink. We were there for the beautiful beach, warm weather, and hopefully a clean comfortable room. The beach was beautiful. The weather was warm though windy at times but no complaints. Our room was dated but clean.................until the flood! Well before the flood there was the backed up plumbing from the shower and toilet. That led to a flood in our room, raw sewage throughout. Luckily we had everything off the floor, and thanks to a staff member who leant me their rubber boots we evacuated without any issues or damage to our belongings. The room we were put in smelled heavily of mold and mildew. Intolerable!!! My wife slept with the bedsheet wrapped around her face. I hardly slept at all. Thank goodness it was our last night. We couldn't wait to get home. We know we were not the only ones experiencing this. There were several units in our building flooded from a leaking pipe from the second floor. As hard as it was for us, I also felt bad for the staff. I could see many were upset, and apologized to us several times. It's not their fault. Who owns these places? I'm pretty sure these have a Canadian ownership connection with the Cuban government. It's a disgrace!!! We will not be returning to Cuba any time soon and will not recommend this destination to any of our friends

Starfish Cayo Guillermo: Amazing resort!

We went to this resort end of January 2024, first time here, 8th time to Cayo Coco. Loved loved loved this resort! They were amazing with the kids, from the entertainment staff, to the bar staff who let them get their own juice to the lobby desk guy who played with them with the bell and made my son (6 years old) super cool paper airplanes. They have lots of entertainment for the kids and sports to do. The food was plentiful, service was amazing everywhere, including the gardeners! The room was clean, yes a bit outdated but super cozy and no issues at all with it ( we had a oceanview room) Beach is amazing, pools were nice ( we go for the beach though!) You never have to worry about finding a spot on the beach or by the pool, always chairs available. Resort was very clean. Drinks were always available no matter what you drank even wine! No complaints for our week staying. Will definitely go back!

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Beach was great

While I understand Cuba is in dire straits and always has shortages of something, this hotel could have done more to be welcoming. Most staff, while not rude, did not go out of their way to even smile at guests. Even paying for upgraded service did little to secure basic needs, like a toilet we didn't have to continually fix. The beach on the other hand cannot be beat!

Hotel Playa Coco: Nice Resort

We had a great room on the 2nd floor with Oceanview. The pool area was lovely. We spent all our time around the pool. It was a windy week, so it was quite chilly by the ocean and the water was very rough, so we opted to stay around the pool. We did go on a lot of beach walks, which were lovely. It just seemed the same things everyday. I do understand that things are difficult for them to get, so I do get it. We have been to Memories before, which is right next door to Playa Coco. It didn't seem like they had any shortages of food, from what I saw. We did go away just to relax and we did do that, so that was the main thing. Cuba does have the most beautiful beaches and that's what keeps bringing us back there.
