Palma Real: only a little concern

The resort has had a few improvements since last year, the rooms were clean, but would be a bonus to have an iron or coffee machine in the room. The food at the buffet has improved. The elevator in the area we were was not working and walking up to the third floor to reach your room was tiring, and I did not understand why we had a room close to party central when we are older that the college and university student on break to be woke up every night or very early in the morning, some considerat [... read more]ion for who they are placing were should be a factor. Most of the staff was very pleasant.

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: Nice place, room for improvement

Great Beach-we had Diamond Service and they have Bali beds on the beach and beverage service. The beach restaurant had good food but it was inconsistent-some people got lots of fries and some sandwiches had filling while others had scant filling. The poutine they served was fantastic! One of our rooms did not have hot water for a day and a half which is inexcusable. Our room had intermittent phone ringing at night-which was never resolved. The food at the El Caribe was very good and the waiter Pavel is truly wonderful. The crepes with Maple syrup offered at the main Buffet were great and the buffet had excellent parmesan cheese from Italy as well as a selection of cold cuts, the roast pork was great. We loved the beach and enjoyed our trip despite a few glitches.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Nice beach.

Hotel location is beautiful, but resort need maintenance. Dinning is also an issue. Marina across from resort is the place where you can go for catamaran trips. There is a lot of attractions around the resort.

Memories Jibacoa: Very Nice and ´cozy' resort

The grounds were very well kept with a lot of matures trees, very nice. The factures that it is a small resort, everything was close by, so you did not have far to go for meals, or the beach, or the lobby, etc...

Roc Barlovento: The price was right.

A few of the rooms have been renovated but not all of them. The important thing is that they are clean. Our maid did a wonderful job of keeping them neat and clean everyday. I did like the size of the resort, with everything being quite close. They do need a lot more loungers. There are not that many and half are in terrible shape. The food is typical Cuban food. The exact same things at the buffet for two weeks straight. Almost all of it was not good.There was a line up for the spaghetti everyd [... read more]ay and it was lousy. The ice cream and breads are wonderful but the desserts look great and taste like cardboard.

Brisas Del Caribe: Above Expectations

We were very pleased with our holiday at Brisas Del Caribe. We were in the oldest part of the resort but the rooms were clean, had hot water, AC, hair dryer and were quieter than in the newer areas. There was a small pool away from the main area and we enjoyed the semi-private feeling of this area next to the 24 hour snack bar. The best surprise was the food - the best we have have had in Cuba (this was our third visit to Varadero)

Hotel Tuxpan: Disappointment

I was not going to bother but I wish to make sure that others are aware of this resort. This resort is in dire need of repairs and upgrading. The rooms are very musty and old but when you are away you really don't spend much time in your room so not a big concern for us. The beach was washed away with 3' drops and very hard to walk on. The food was boring and by the end of our vacation we were sick of the same old every single day. What made our trip amazing was the staff which are friendly and truly care about your stay and will go out of their way to assist you.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Beautiful Resort

Everything was as expected.Had a couple small problems when we arrived but resolved quickly.The location of our room was at the beach end which we had asked for. .a bit from the main lobby but we managed to get the golf cart when needed to get there..The lights on the pathways need to be repaired..so dark at night.our room was good and had a wonderful maid.. the lobby bathrooms were always clean and always had tissue and hand towels.

Starfish Varadero: Not Bad For The Price

The grounds and public areas were okay. Food was really good. Main pool actually had grass, leaves etc. floating most of the week. Took a picture where a kiss was left on a wall in our room. Lots of little ants, no hot water. Needs a lot of work! Still recovering from bug bites (sand fleas?)

Roc Arenas Doradas: Room had cockroaches

Public areas, dining rooms, bars were good. Arrived Tuesday. Noticed roaches in room on Saturday night.Since we were leaving Tuesday we did not complain. Killed about 8 of them between Saturday and Tuesday when we left. We were in room 129.

Muthu Playa Varadero: Wanting

We had an excellant flight both ways, on time and friendly service. Upon arrival we were not shown where our rooms were nor were we given a chit for beach towels. Some staff were very pleasant while others did not seem to care, we were just a job to them. The grounds of the resort were well kept but the public washrooms were a disgrace, either out of service, smelly, or both. The food was passable with a good selection. The nightly entertainment did not start until 10 p.m. which is late for us,  [... read more]a start time of 9 p.m. would seem more appropriate. Upon returning home we agreed we would not return to this resort.

Memories Jibacoa: Very nice scenic resort

This is a small resort in a very scenic setting: small mountain range on one side, ocean on the other. The easy connection from the main building with restaurants and lobby bar is one easy straight path. As the rooms ( on 2 levels ) are on either side of the path ( garden or pool side ) nothing is very far. The grounds are well kept, and we ( 4 persons ) were in large newly decorated rooms which were kept very clean. The dining room and centre and side outdoor terraces are also well kept and enj [... read more]oyable for dining. Our favourite for a fish lunch was the RANCHON beach restaurant . Possible drawback: At the JIBACOA the strong winds can bring up the red flag ( too often ) and the Portuguese Man of War onto the beach from the ocean. This happened and kept us out of the water for too long. A huge plus: For a secluded all inclusive resort it is easy to arrange a private trip by classic car with driver and guide to La Havana - only 1 hour one way. Also enjoyable: the "mountain" climb with resort view and hike led by resort staff.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Good resort...needs some upgrades!

People were amazing & Leo from Diamond Club very helpful & accomodating. Food ok but who goes to Cuba for food. Beach was amazing...blue green crystal clear. Jeep excursion well worth the money! Jam packed day & a lot for your buck! Catamaran loads of fun & nice lobster lunch on a beautiful private beach!

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Great Beach

Location to Havana was good , which is our reason for choosing the hotel. We were a little disappointed in the lack of general maintenance to the resort (none of the fountains were operating and the standing water could be a reason for the number of mosquitoes). The food choices were surprisingly good for Cuba. The nightly shows were very entertaining and the best I have seen at any all inclusive. Melia Marina Varadero: Great choice

This was our first time to Cuba, as well as our first time to an all iclusive resort. We were lucky to have a one bedroom apartment. It was very quiet and spacious. Although it was not what you could call a Cuban experience, it was very comfortable and a good home base. It was nice to have a small kitchen. Although it had the bare basics in the way of utensils, dishes etc, it didn't look as if it was really used. We had an all inclusive package, which was good, as there was not a lot of choice in groceries to make meals with. You would almost have to have a car to shop in a nearby town. The combination washer and dryer was great.There were a few little glitches, e.g. the safe not opening etc. Any time we called the front desk, someone was there within minutes to fix it, and they followed up with a phone all to make sure all was well ! Being from Vancouver we had our windows open the first couple of nights, until we realized that we were letting in a lot of mosquitoes, a warning might be in order, as it wasn't particularly obvious when you were outside at night. The food was good, plentiful and varied. My only complaint was they had nice ahi tuna, but overcooked it and couldn't be convinced to sear it and take it off the grill in a timely fashion. We only went to the entertainment one night, but it wasn't inspiring enough to return. We went on a number of day trips and spent a night in Havana and it was good to have a comfortable place to return to. I found the constant expectation re tipping uncomfortable and was thinking it might be nice to have the option of a tipping package where you could put in a lump sum with the knowledge that it would go to the staff. You are told their wages are low, and it was obvious from our trips that people didn't have a lot to manage on.Not sure how that would work though as there are hundreds of staff and you only come into contact with a very small percentage.

Club Kawama: Laid back resort with stunning beach

We took 3 grown children for our third trip to this resort & a chance to see Cuba before the American invasion. Since our first visit 5 years ago, there has been noticeable improvements to the beach, 2 pools, grounds, lobby furniture, the hot water in the rooms, evening entertainment & the quality of the al a carte menu. Unfortunately, the main buffet was still in renovations during our stay. I'm not sure why the resort choose to make major renovations during their high season. This is basic acc [... read more]ommodation: clean rooms, no undesirable bugs, edible food by our simple standards but don't expect clean towels everyday or room service. One of our 3 rooms was without air conditioning but it was cooler when we were there so this was not an issue except keeping the mosquitoes at bay during the night. We spoke to others on site who had no water or no power for several days. One daughter had to access medical care and was well served by the resort nurse & a doctor and pharmacist who paid a house call to the resort. Our most frustrating issue with this resort has always been the front desk. We find a number of the employees disrespectful, unfriendly & basically not very interested in helping you solve problems or provide information (such as how to obtain beach towels). Piece of advice: steer clear of the desk clerk we nicknamed the "Spanish Diva" - you'll know her when you see her. If you're used to 5 star hotels, don't even think about Club Kawama but if you're okay with minimal services, a large resort with plenty of beach, and a great location for excursions (Kawama is the last pick up & the first drop off for tour buses), then you'll find this resort comfortable and the majority of the staff friendly.

Los Delfines: Happy Hotel

Hotel is in need of upgrades in certain suites but hey we are in Cuba, When in Rome do as the Romans do. Overall the hotel is in good condition and the food and staff was excellent absolutely no problems there. Beach access is 2 minutes from Hotel my wife and myself have already taken Hotel emails to return next year. Would Highly recommend to tourists to make certain they have changed monies to Pesos before going to Varadero cant stress it enough, reason'' There is only one bank in Varadero and [... read more] to change monies you have to wait in a line up for up to 30 minutes due to there system. We tried 4 Hotels in the area to change Canadian dollars and they will not change them so the Bank is the only way. So Tourists beware.

Starfish Jibacoa: Superb Location with wonderful staff

I was amazed at how well the grounds were maintained, daily clearing of the grounds and beach by caring friendly staff. House keeping services were above expectations. You could choose daily or every other service. Overall the food was enjoyable and one could select from hot and cold items as well as combine to create your own meal e.g. add hot sauce and feta cheese [ from salad bar] to your on the spot hot pasta service. The resort is what you make it!

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Great Resort

The resort was a little dated but rooms were functional and clean. The staff were awesome. They made our stay very welcoming. Food was good and not as bland as what we expected. Some of the downfalls, there should be more entertainment throughout the day and washroom closer to the beach. There was lots of things for young children to do. Being able to take a hop on and off bus into Varadero was great for some shopping a the flea markets. The beach in Varedero was amazing.

Grand Memories Varadero: Beautiful clear water beach.

Beach is nice and close to the resort and the food was good - beer was cold. The restaurants are a bit loud for those over 30. The shows were good - well the performers were great but the sound system was far too loud. We spent a second week at Playa De Oro and enjoyed the atmosphere much more.
