Club Kawama: Got what I paid for!

3* overall- pool is nice... Good entertainment! staff was friendly... Booked superior room and was satisfied. Grounds need to be cleaner. Most Chairs at beach were broken or uncomfortable. Restaurant a la carte was quite disappointment but don't go to Cuba for food but the beach ! Et voila! Good place for the value!

Melia Las Americas: Our Best Trip

Everything was absolutely great. We had a wonderful and relaxing time . I would suggest all couples get away and do this vacation once a year . All the stresses of say today life will soon disappear . We are already dreaming about doing it all over again next year .

Starfish Varadero: Very Happy!

We were very happy with our recent stay in Bungalow A2207 at Aqua Azules! When we booked with Trip Central we had asked for a 2nd floor in a quiet location and that is what we got. The rooms were very spacious with 2 balconies (1 full and 1 with just a rail). The food was good, the service was great, along with a beautiful beach and bus stop near the end of the hotel driveway We heard many complaints during our 10 day stay February 15 to 25 but mostly from people who were staying in the hotel se [... read more]ction. We also heard complaints from those staying in 5 star resorts! Our only negative would be that the bed was a bit hard! We certainly would recommend this hotel and would not hesitate to return. i

Hotel Los Cactus: Great to escape winter

All facilities are close. No great distances to walk. Appealing pool. Interesting animation. Good shows every evening. Good meals, but after two weeks they may become repetitious. Still, great variety of food, likely to satisfy all.

Grand Memories Varadero: Procedures to work out

The grounds are lovely and 5 star worthy but the procedures need work. Key cards are ridiculous. Thought first day it was the lock hardware and had maintenance take it apart. Every 2nd day we had to re magnetize the cards as did the 3 other units that traveled with us. I like to play and ended up walking to iberostar next door for volleyball 3 days. The food was good for Cuba but then I noted the chicken skewers had 1st half well cooked and last cubes raw which explains some sickly comments. We  [... read more]asked for king got 2 beds one was ok the other was super saggy so did not mesh. Lounge drinks and coffee bar were great. Good potential but 3.5 star experience.

Hotel Villa Cuba: Authentic Cuban Atmosphere

The hotel was a mix of lovely and terrible rooms but the hotel and grounds were a clean and beautiful atmosphere and well maintained. They had entertainment every night and both the buffet and restaurants had great food choices. The pools were cold but beautiful and the beach was gorgeous. We technically booked a 5day 4nights trip but with two full days of travel it was basically only 3 days which I was extremely disappointed with

Playa Caleta: My third time there and always a blast

I can't say enough about this resort. The staff and service is impecable and will continue to go back every chance I can get. Maria Elena (front desk manager) was the kindest and sweetest person as she made sure that our stay was enjoyable.

Memories Jibacoa: Very Nice, Quite and secluded resort

This is a very nice resort if all you have in mind is to kick back and relax. Mostly mature people, no "Loud" music or rumpus teens getting drunk and making big scenes. Great swimming/snorkeling and as always - "Great" "Cuban" "Hosts" who seem to always be smiling!

Memories Jibacoa: Great resort and great staff

I thought the resort was nice. Its been around for a while but the rooms were nice, clean and bed was comfortable. I liked that it was an adult only resort and it was not huge so there weren't thousands of people. It was my first trip to Cuba and prior to going everyone told me the food in Cuba sucks so I had zero expectations for the food. I found the food was quite good, there was lots of variety including fresh fruit and seafood. I thought the beach area was nice as well. The only qualm I had was that the water in the pool was cold. Once you got in and moved around it wasn't so bad, but I asked other people that have been to other resorts and they commented that the water cold as well.

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: Average resort that could be better

It appeared that this resort had not been taken care as well as it should have been in the past few years. There was however, a lot of effort being put into repairs and maintenance when we were there. Customer service in some locations on this resort fell short of our expectations. Some staff obviously need additional training. As we expected, for the most part the food was okay. We were very pleased with the breads, cheeses and wines. We would have loved to see more fresh fruit. Overall this [... read more] resort met our expectations, we would consider returning at some time.

Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda: It was a nice resort, clean & friendly staff.

Overall the trip was good. The people were very friendly & nice. Always willing to help in any way. A few things to work on - The nightly entertainment ready needs work. We left shortly after it started each night. The food was good but it did not stay hot. If you were not there went it was put out then it usually was not hot.

Palma Real: Needs some TLC. Great location!

The location made the trip. Lots of things to do and see in Varadero. As for the resort...it was okay. Not fancy, and definitely well used, but the rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. The hotel grounds were okay. A coat of paint would go along way! The beach was nice but was off the resort(3 minutes max). Here there is a bar and snack bar with washrooms. The lineups at he beach bar get pretty long. The food was edible but we didn't eat anything that we were looking forward to eating  [... read more]again. After the 3rd day the buffet was getting repetitive. There are many good restaurants near the resort that have great food and are reasonably priced. The biggest con we found was the lobby. We are non smokers and it was nearly impossible to get away from cigarette smoke! Because of this, we will no longer be travelling to resorts that allow smoking. So, to sum up, if you are looking for a place to party with little to no frills and you don't mind cigarette smoke, this would be the place for you! It isn't bad, but it is certainly not good!

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: Nice resort

It was very enjoyable. The only negatives would be that it was sometimes difficult to communicate with the hotel staff, as many of them did not speak much english. The room was nice but the bed was hard.

Club Kawama: A Slice of Old Cuba

We really enjoyed this resort-though it is 80 years old, & the oldest in Varadero. It probably doesn't have all the modern amenities like the new resorts in the area- but it has So much history and character. We had a room Right on the beautiful beach. We could walk for a long way along the beach, or through the resort itself- which may be 1/4 km wide, tho narrow, as there is the ocean on one side and the quiet street & canal on the other side. We liked the $5, all-day hop on-hop off double decker bus that took us all through Varadero. We could easily walk from the hotel to the town and markets. There were lots of options for day trips, which were well organized & efficient (we chose a bus trip to Havana, and to a Sugar cane plantation) There wasn't much to complain about- a few oddities like not many toilet seats. Memories Jibacoa: Quite, pretty, beach resort

Small, quite location right on the beach. Clean rooms. A great place for retired travellers who don't want to party. Also great for those who want to lose weight. Food wasn't great! My husband was sick for 5 days out of 7. Most that I spoke with there, were sick as well. Main topic at the resort was, the condition of their bowels!

Paradisus Varadero: Disappointing

We met our "rep" and the first words he said were "I have bad news for you the resort is overbooked" one day spent negotiating to get a room there. The first 24 precious hours of vacation taken away from us. Not. Acceptable

Starfish Varadero: No communication with outside world

Old resort, run down in a lot of areas. No water in jacuzzis. Phones in rooms do not work. There were full days where you could not contact the outside world by phone even if you did use the phone in the lobby. Very upsetting to people who needed to be in contact with home. At times toilet had no water and the shower was always cold. But the pools were clean. The beach was beautiful and our bungalow was large and clean. I would make sure you tell people that want to go there about the phones and [... read more] suggest they purchase international calling for their cell phones.

Blau Varadero: Still great!

This year we were a large group occupying a total of 5 rooms. No complaints at all. The staff is fantastic as usual, food is good and the hotel and grounds are prefect - not too big not too small. We look forward to the next visit!

Hotel Bella Costa: Lovely beach

The hotel has a number of issues typical of some of the older hotels in varadero and the food leaves much to be desired, but the space is great, the beach is amazing and the staff are helpful. If you have the stomach to deal with Cuban buffets and don't mind the odd leaky roof here and there, this Hotel will provide you a great starting point for a Cuban vacation. Explore the peninsula and visit Havana for a more complete experience. Vinales is supposed to be well worth the trip. Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: Great resort

Beautiful resort. Amazing beach. Wonderful staff. Clean, comfortable room. Disappointing food especially at the specialty restaurants. This is where there is real need for improvement. We would return if we knew that there had been changes made to the food quality.
