Melia Varadero: Best Resort I've Been to - Ever!

Hotel was clean, staff were super nice and professional. Great room for sleeping, because that's the only thing you do in a All inclusive room. Pools were great, ocean view was perfect, weather was a bit cooler at 24 - 26c and windy during our stay, but everything else was great.

Grand Memories Varadero: A disapointment

There was never hot water in the morning to have a shower. The room keys were always faulty and had to be replaced. They were always short of towels and one day I felt I had gotten a used one, as it seemed dirty. They never had small change for tipping, so had to constantly try to get change from staff. The beach was beautiful and the pool area was very nice. The food was O.K. I went to have a stress free holiday but found it very stressful. I would not recommend it. Darlene

Starfish Varadero: Not bad for 3 stars

The food was edible but not good there was only one restaurant pools were great room was clean bed was hard service was good people were friendly no Internet unless you went up town and bought it coffee was good

Melia Las Antillas: Terrible

Cross contamination on grilling station , bugs in room. Switched to another room. More bugs , not a 4 1/2 star , staff rude. You are bothering them when you want a drink. Told me no water in rooms then when we tipped he brought me water , told me no extra pillows even though mine were dirty.

Playa Caleta: It was alright

This hotel was okay for what I wanted, it was accessible to Havana and I wanted to experience the big city. The staff were very nice . The elevator was wonky at times and the stairs were not the best. The pool was amazing even though it didn't have a swim up bar. The beach was very nice other then being a lot of small shells that cut your feet. The food was the usual Cuba choices . Grand Memories Varadero: Resort Was Better than Expected!

The grounds, pools, rooms, and restaurants were all what I had hoped for, remembering that it is Cuba and their resources are limited! Our weather was not great so we didn't spend much time on the beach, but it looked good!

Muthu Playa Varadero: Fun resort

The grounds were nice. The pool area was attractive with lots of lounge chairs. Beautiful flowers and plants to look at. The ala carte restaurants were delicious and attractive. The beach was clean and close to our room. The pool women's washroom was unavailable due to repairs . It wasn't a problem for me . I used the lobby washroom or my room washroom. The food alcohol and coffe was very good. The service and entertainment was excellent.

Roc Arenas Doradas: Wonderful staff and great resort

Although it was not a new hotel, it was very very clean and comfortable. The pool and bars and food along with the staff was amazing, I look forward to visiting that resort again in future years. It was great for our family, and are single friends that accompanied us, there was something for everyone!

Playa Caleta: Great resort, incredible staff

Stayed here for a week in Feb 2016 and had an absolute ball. I will give immense credit to the resort staff as they are so incredibly friendly, fun, kind, hardworking, just all-around excellent. Special shout out to Art the concierge, Jesse the lifeguard, Nina, Gina and Steve - the dogs who hang around the beach, and all the staff at the main bar. Oh, and the late- night sback chefs! Hotel Tuxpan: Wonderful resort!

The hotel is older, the buffet is somewhat limited..but it was good. Everyone needs to remember this is Cuba, they DO NOT have access to all we have in Canada. There was lots to do...we truly enjoyed ourselves.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Great place, friendly people

I heard a few bad things about this hotel before booking, but went anyway. In the end, I am glad I did. The water slide was great fun for my son, the staff was extremely friendly. Wasn't crazy about the bathrooms, but I didn't go for the bathrooms

Playa Caleta: Excellent option for travelers on a budget

We had an excellent stay at the Puntarena! I read a lot of negative reviews about this hotel before our trip but we were on a budget and the price was right so we booked anyway. I think this hotel is worth the value. If you're looking for a luxury experience this is not it but for the price how could you complain! Our room was on the 5th floor with a canal view, there was no issue with noise and the room was clean and very bright and sunny. Our maids were very friendly and did a great job. I would advise hanging your towels to dry as the maids will take them and replace them with clean towels but one day (just one) there were no big towels. There were always plenty of small towels though. The food was okay, nothing fancy but we always found something we liked and there was variety. There were a lot of different types of fish throughout the week. I had an omelette every morning which they made fresh right in front of us. The snack bar at night was just hot dogs and burgers, I would suggest bringing some snack foods if you don't like that. The two restaurants, Italian and Chinese were good as well. The shrimp tempura at the Chinese restaurant is delicious! We ran in the morning along the canal which was nice and it was only a 45 minute walk to downtown along the canal. The resort also offers a free shuttle downtown twice a day. You could also get a taxi for 5 pesos. The location is fantastic if you're interested in spending time in Varadero. The majority of the resorts are quite a ways down the peninsula. Varadero is fantastic. Very clean, friendly and safe. We went to a bar called Calle 13 several times which we really enjoyed. Local beers were only 2 pesos each and the "Fajita Pollo" is delicious and a decent sized meal for only 2.5 pesos. Personally, I prefer to get off the resort and spend more time in the city and Puntarena is a great choice if that's your thing. Bring change into the city as most places "charge" you to use the bathroom. We brought along our own toilet paper just in case but most places provided it. The concierge was extremely helpful and put us in touch with a guide who took us by taxi to Havana for a day, which was half the price of a bus tour. We did our research before hand and had a list of all the places we wanted to go and he took us everywhere. They even made a lunch reservation for us at an excellent restaurant were we had lobster. I did a bus tour of Havana year ago and the tour in the taxi was much more personal. Our tour guide, Roberto Blanco, was fantastic! Very knowledgeable and a really funny, nice guy. If you like drinks I would suggest the following: Pina Coladas on the terrace at Hotel Nacional de Cuba Daiquiris at Floridita Mojitos at La Bodeguita del Medio We also went scuba diving with Varadiving which I would definitely recommend as well. The hotel sells internet cards for 2 pesos which you can use for 1 hour, which does not have to be consecutive. If you log out you can use the card as many times as you like until the hour runs out. They did run out of cards after the second day of stay so if internet access is important to you perhaps buy a few just in case. I enjoyed being offline for a week. The hotel ran out of a few other things as well, change at the front desk, decaf coffee (only for one day) but overall they had what we needed. For us this trip was not about being pampered in a hotel, it was about experiencing Cuba and enjoying some sun and beautiful beaches and we definitely did that. A few suggestions to make your trip enjoyable: Tip the staff at the hotel! Bring presents for the staff and the locals. We brought toiletries, feminine products, clothes, fishing gear and chocolates just to name a few. People are very appreciative and want to help you enjoy your visit to Cuba. Also, change your money at the bank. You get a much better rate at the bank than your hotel. And remember, Cuba isn't Canada! Things are different, embrace that and enjoy yourself!

Palma Real: Good Time

I traveled with my Father to Cuba in February 2016. When we arrived at the hotel it was in the early hours of the morning, about 2AM. We had to wait about 20 minutes to get checked in as there was a group who had arrived before us. Our room was in building 2 on the 2nd floor. We had a view of the quiet pool (the other pool had more people and swim up bar). The rooms were Cuba average - very dated and simple. You do have to leave the hotel to walk to the beach but it's only a quick 5 minute walk. You cross a street so you do have to be aware of traffic. There is a beach bar for Palma Real guests. There are limited chairs so if you plan to get one you need to go in the morning. The location of the hotel was great for use because you can walk right into Varadero within minutes. The people there were so nice. We made friends with some of the staff - especially Moses, Johanna, Yanelis, Daisy, and Jesus! There were some nights that there were long lines to the 24h lobby bar, usually between 10pm-12am. This is because after 10pm it's the only open bar on the resort and so everyone comes there for drinks. I would suggest to the hotel that they keep at least 1, if not 2, of the other bars open till 12pm (especially during peak season). The resort had a good variety of alcohols and bar mixes to please every kind of drinker. The food was great at this resort (mind you I am not a picky eater). My dad and I always found lots of different choices that looked and tasted great. There were always at least 3 meat and fish option at dinner, plus seafood. Even for picky people, there was always simple things like plain potatoes, pasta, all the topics for a salad and good fresh baked breads (the butter is also really good from Spain). They always had bowls of fresh fruit, the papaya was to die for. At lunch and dinner they had really yummy ice cream and desserts. We went to two A La Cartes (there were three but the hotel was only giving two reservations per room the week we went). The International one was great, we got Chicken Cutlets and they were very tasty! The Piazze (Italitan) was also really good, with pizzas, pastas, and mains. Overall, we went to this resort because the price was right for us. We were hesitant because of the many questionable reviews. In the end, we were satisfied with our stay. Definitely not a luxurious hotel, so don't expect to much because you'll just be disappointed. They're working on improving the hotel but, like most things in Cuba, progress is slow.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Nice and Relax place to go

We enjoy the stay in this resort, room size is good, beach is a nice place for a long walk. Food compare to cruise is not that good, but for this price I think it is fair. Nice people to serve us too.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Upgrade recommended

When we arrived at the resort we were offered an upgrade for a premium room with a view, private small pool and beach with it's own restaurant meals included. Highly recommend this. However, If you are into lots of activity and partying I would recommend staying in main hotel.

Starfish Jibacoa: Just what the doctor ordered!

First impression was not stellar as we got in pretty late, however, in the morning light, beautiful, serene, peaceful. Ocean views are stunning, beautiful beach. Staff were great, helpful & freindly. Food was good, not huge selection, but what there was, was good. For me its not about the food, Its the sun, the beach and the culture. Only down side for me...leaving :(

Hotel Acuazul: Good resort

Good resort friendly staff, close to everything , souvenir shops etc. New restaurant a la carte good food. Coffee is very good at bar. Claudio always there to help you out. The snack bar is always good. The bingo guy is also very good

Starfish Cuatro Palmas: Nice resort and good location

We were at this hotel last year and went back in February this year . This resort is in a great location as you can walk downtown easily . Also it is near the Beatles bar which we enjoy . The service and food was great . Rooms were nice . The only thing which we would recommend is to ask for a room facing the pool or beach , if you are located on the Main Street there is a disco across the street which goes early into the morning . We had a nice quiet room this year however last year we were in  [... read more]the economy rooms down the street which were noisy every night because of the disco . Overall this is a great hotel if you get the right room. Our group has s theory that if the hotel would spend some money to put pull-down sound absorbing door on each patio to muffle noise they would receive a lot less complaints about the noise . The only other thing we found that they could put more chairs around the pool or have a rule that you can only reserve a chair for 3 hours at a time . We saw people put their towels on a chair and never use it all day .

Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda: Wonderful Resort

This resort is great! The service, food and staff were amazing. The weather didn't cooperate and we only seen sun twice during our 7 day stay but we enjoyed ourselves nonetheless. Hope to get back soon!
