Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Very nice resort

New and modern hotel. Very nice rooms. Food is not the greatest. I got sick during and after my stay there, not sure if it was the food or the water. WiFi is not for free and is limited to lobby and pool area.

Memories Jibacoa: Clean and tidy

Grounds , rooms, public areas were all satisfactory. Would like to have had better wi-fi connection or even an English weather channel on TV. Very poor wi-fi and television reception. A site map of the resort handed out upon arrival would be helpful.

Brisas Del Caribe: Not bad, bit noisy.

It was very noisy in the foyer area...difficult to have a conversation especially in the evening when there were many people around. The first room I was in was on the ground floor and was mouldy (smell), but I was able to change the room the next day to another room on the 3rd floor. This one stunk of cigarettes, but at least I could open the door without worry of any intruders entering and air the room out. The beds were hard, and the pillows old and flat, but I did get used to them by the end [... read more] of the week. The bathroom was clean and so were the towels and sheets. The food was ok, and there was no shortage at all. One doesn't go to Cuba for the food, and I was fine with what was served. The staff were mostly quite friendly, especially after you tipped them, which I did sometimes. The drinks were good. I only watched two shows, one of which was disappointing and the other was very good. There was a regular band that came around in the evening to serenade us which I enjoyed and bought their music. Staff at the front desk were for the most part good, but one or two were a bit jaded (and what I mean by that is that they appeared tired of responding to the questions from the guests). The Air transat rep was good. Would I recommend? Yes, and I would also give some warnings too.

Playa Caleta: stayed there before and will do so again / great

its clean/ service outstanding / very helpful with any inquiries/ food is great The bars are fully stocked so never a problem having a few drinks / and food is available almost every waking hour so i would say they have a great facility / just a few ramps would be good for wheelchair access , they already have elevators ....so a few reps would be fantastic

Muthu Playa Varadero: Good resort, poor transportation

The hotel was very nice and clean. The staff was very pleasant and happy to help you. A few things they can improve on: 1 provide a resort map when you register, 2 have a variety of foods (change things from time to time), common bathrooms need toilet seats. Air Transat was a horrible experience. First flight had a mechanical issue and they had to split our flights. We were told the 2nd flight would get meal vouchers but had to wait for them to board the first back up plane. By the time this hap [... read more]pened, we had less than 30 minutes to go get something to eat. Once we started boarding they had to figure out where people would be seated. Air Transat knew about this issue at 1pm. We started boarding at 7:30pm. You would think that in 6 and a half hours they would have the seating situation figured out. Flying home we waited in line for almost 3 hours just to check in. They had issues all day with the system and took extra time to check in a previous flight. Then they had to stop checking people in so the employees could go to the gate for boarding.

Hotel Acuazul: Raining in n Varedo

I would go back again, the plus... elevator going to rooms ,balcony in rooms over looking ocean or the side where the pool and entertainment is on. , you can watch it from balcony. remained me back in the 50's where the rooms large....bad part the toilets did not flush with with any force and get bucket water to flush it down

Melia Las Antillas: Great location

Perfect size resort. Rooms are older but clean plenty of space. Both jacuzzi 's not working properly a little cool. Looks like they are continually doing reconstruction maintenance to the grounds. Elevator on its last legs. Lobby bathrooms were closed most of the week. older clientele nice and quiet. Food was good and staff very friendly and helpful. Not sure it would be good for people with mobility issues.

Starfish Jibacoa: Mediocre resort

This was a three star experience. The staff were pleasant but unhelpful upon our arrival at 2300. We were unable to swim in the ocean due to bad weather and poisonous jellyfish. The food was atrocious. I am familiar with Cuban cuisine but this is my worst dining experience. The fish was poor quality, the food was never hot and the ice cream was always melted. Some of the bungalows looked pleasant but we were on a strip of 5 "bungalows" and awakened frequently during the night by people passing our windows. the configuration of the porches doe not lend itself to privacy.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Great Resort - Great Food

Pleasantly surprised by the quality of food Cuba now offers, great resort close to Varadero. Excellent beach and pools. Book your restaurants early as they tend to fill up, the hilltop restaurant in particular is very good.

Starfish Jibacoa: Ok on a budget if you can tolerate the food

Villas JIbacoa is well located for day trips to Havana. Our weather was very cold so we didn't get to swim or snorkel but the beach is nice. The pool area is old and in need of a good cleaning and update. The grounds are very nice and the bungalows are basic but kept clean. The resort kind if reminds me of a family summer resort we might find here in Canada. Basic but clean, with a friendly laid back vibe. While we were there it was an older crowd 60+ . Facilities are limited so think "mom and p [... read more]op motel" as opposed to Hilton. Lol. Beverage services are uneven depending on who is working the bar. The food is horrible. Worst I've had in 10 trips to Cuba. The buffet is very limited, unappealing and disorganized, with generally poor or indifferent service and questionable food handling practices. If you're looking for a basic resort to use as a base camp for Havana , snorkeling or diving, and exploring the beautiful countrysidethis place might be for you but beware the food. If you can get a booking at a discount for approximately 750 it might be worthwhile, otherwise there are other options in Varadero that may be better.

Grand Memories Varadero: Nothing to complain about!

Staff is very friendly, service is good. Resort & Beach was very nice and well kept. Diamond club is worth the extra. Plenty of well done entertainment day and night. Some food handling improvements could be made.

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: Great resort!

We just returned from a one week stay at the Royal Hicacos Resort in Varadero Cuba. Despite the not so great weather which is not something the resort can order they surpassed my expectations for service, food and accommodations. The staff was courteous and always ready to please. The entertainment was great and I really enjoyed the variety and quality of food that they had to offer. We had a real king size bed in our room and the room was spacious with a separate sitting area. Even though we di [... read more]d not choose the diamond club service we still had access to the butler service which I found very convenient not having to wait in line to reserve restaurants. I will definitely be returning to this resort.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Great experience

The hotel was kept very clean and proper. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and they were always there when you needed a hand. The pools were clean and tidy, as was the beach, and the entertainment was magnificent. The only thing I could not handle was the food. I am a very picky person so I did not eat a lot of what they had there leading me to starving by the end of the week. Other than that my trip was amazing and would definitely go back to that resort again.

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: royal hicacos

GREAT TIME. STAFF,ROOM,GROUNDS WERE A OK. DINING WAS FINE EXCEPT FOR THE ITALIAN RESTAURANT AND BISTRO. THE ENTERTAINMENT WAS VERY GOOD. BEACH WAS TERRIFIC. OVERALL IT WAS EXCELLENT, I WILL BE BACK AND BRING FRIENDS.

Resonance Blu Varadero: beautiful resort a bit too big for older folks

Clean,-we had to fix toilet ourselves,.that was a lot of fun.Memories Varadero is a great place.Entermaint was great and for all edges.Wait staff was a bit in the Absent Mode.Housekeeping ladies and grounds people were pleasant and Pedro the gardiner made me a beautiful flour.

Villa Sotavento: Not impressed at all

When I arrived at Sotavento, I was provided a very poor quality Room in a villa with no hot water. The bed sheet was dirty. Later i found out that the water pump does not work until in the after noon. So i moved to AquaZul which is owned by the same company and my experience there was decent. Staff were friendly. But be careful with the balcony doors upstairs, make sure you take out the keys from the key hole before you go to the balcony because if the door locks you wont be able to open it from [... read more] outside.

Grand Memories Varadero: Nice Resort

The hotel itself was nice to look at, pool area is pleasing and appealing. Cleanliness could of been improved, the pool chairs stained. The hotel room themselves very basic and could be freshened up, rooms cleaned but never felt fresh. Food was moderately good in A La Cart Style. Buffet food was not for us, avoided a lot of the food unless it was simple like Bread and Bananas or eggs. Snack bar often out of selections. Coffee Bar was excellent and the Bar was Excellent! Melia Las Americas: Great place to stay!

Everything was excellent at this location. However, full day entertainment can be improved. Entertainment in the main lobby was only for a few hours at night, should be throughout the day. The food was excellent!

Club Kawama: Great time in Kawama!

I’m not going to talk about the nature, beaches, etc., we all know it is a gorgeous place. Also, we were lucky to have good weather: clear skies, sunny days and calm water. So, about our experience in the resort Kawama: it was just great! 1. The room was clean and comfortable - there was hot water, controllable air conditioner, cable TV with sport channels, CTV and some other canadian tv channels and the room was maintained daily and the bed sheets and towels were changed every day. 2. Food an [... read more]d drink / cocktails: I have to emphasize that it really matters if you are addicted to the junk food or not. The food there in general is organic - no preservatives, no artificial flavours, so if you are a pizza / burger lover, you may find the food not to your taste. In the restaurant ala carte you can have a salad-cocktail of oyster or shrimp, fresh fish, lean pork chops, soups, etc. At the buffet you have plenty of salads - cooked and fresh, cooked meals and soups, barbecue and different kinds of desserts, including ice cream and fresh fruits. So no matter if you are vegetarian or meat person, you won’t walk away hungry. At lunch time, if you don’t want to miss the beach or feel too lazy (we all have these moments) you can get hamburgers and toasts on the beach. As we were with all inclusive package, the beer, liquor (domestic & international), cocktails, coffee were available 24 /7. To be fair, I should mention that I wasn’t pleased with the coffee at the resort. Especially since I have tried the wonderful flavour of Cuban coffee a long time ago. But there is a solution: on the main street of Varadero, there are plenty of cafeterias where you can have real coffee: aromatic and strong. Also, if you prefer to stay away from the noisy bars you can sit comfortably on the chairs beside the restaurant “ala carte” and enjoy your drink and good company all night long. 3. Service: ¡EXCELENTE! The staff at Kawama is amazing: friendly and open, always smiling and in a good mood. This is contagious and makes you feel awesome! Wonderful staff + gorgeous conditions + gorgeous place + of course good company = gorgeous vacation!

Occidental Arenas Blancas: So disappointed

I've been to Cuba a few times and this was our second time at Arenas Blancas. We went 2 years ago and loved this resort so we decided to return. I couldn't be more disappointed in our trip this time. I'm not sure if there was a change in management but the moral of the staff was down. The service was just terrible regardless of the amount we tipped. The food in Cuba is always subpar and barely edible. I'm fully aware. However this time around it was so awful that it reminded me of slop we used to feed our pigs when we lived on a farm. They would recycle the food from one meal to the next. The hamburgers from last nights snack bar were cut up and mixed in with runny scrambled eggs for breakfast. Hot dogs cut up and put into rice. Buffet and restaurants were dirty. I shudder just thinking about it. This is just an overview of our experience but it was so bad I think this has deterred me from visiting Cuba again unfortunately.
