Brisas Del Caribe: not so amazing resort

Although very clean the Bathrooms were average at best. No paper no toilet seats urinals not working and toilet stalls closed not working. A large Carter restaurants only 2 were available when we were told we could have three. Hot tub closed all 7 days and nobody even tried working on it. A/C in our first room did not work had to change rooms. FOOD was the worst I had in the last 20 years of travelling. Temperature of food was not a concern for them.6 people in our group and 5 got sick from food [... read more], I could go on for ever but in finishing I would not recommend this resort till they start to care about guests and start to fix it up. Its in direct need of an overhaul.

Memories Jibacoa: Great trip

This was our second time to this resort and loved it just as much or more than the first time. We arrived on my birthday and when I mentioned to this to our waitress at the buffet I suddenly had champagne and a birthday treat to celebrate which was a really nice touch. We met Julie on the first day and she was just as accessible and friendly as all the reviews have said. We thoroughly enjoyed the piano bar every night after dinner, the spanish coffees are amazing. My only complaint was the smell we would get from the bathroom sometimes in building 1, if you can look past these little things this resort will not disappoint.

Barcelo Solymar: Great resort, great time!

We stayed at Barcelo Solymar for 10 days beginning January 24, 2016. There are many options for the type of accomadations you would like, we chose a superior room. It was large and very clean. Our maid was excellent and the fridge was kept stocked with water, soda and beer. It is a great place for couples, families or singles as the clientele is a very mixed crowd and the resort is large enough for everyone. The staff at the resort were always friendly and helpful . The resort is also within walking distance to downtown flea markets and shopping, Of course the beach is fantastic, well kept and lots of seating areas in both sun or shade. Hotel Villa Cuba: Resort is being nicely upgraded .

This is our 4th time at this resort and it is slowly receiving much needed renovations . In 3 or 4 months it should be better . They just finished painting the lobby white while we were there and it made a big difference ! The staff is very helpful and friendly . The food at the buffet restaurant was better than some of the other Cuban resorts but the coffee was ordinary . The road in front of the resort is not open to the Varadero double decker bus so it is an 8 to 10 minute walk down the road  [... read more]to catch it so we were not able to tour Varadero as much as we have in the past . They are slowly redoing some of the Villas units , the older ones are a little run down .

Muthu Playa Varadero: Nice Resort!

The beach is awesome, the rooms are good, always had hot water. Grounds are nice and well kept. The staff were great! The evening entertainment was really good. Could always find something to eat. I had the beef at the International restaurant, it was really good. I would say that the resort was a 3.5 star, the price was good and I got what I paid for, if you expect a 5 star go to a 5 star. I have no complaints about this resort and would return. One thing that I have gotten into the habit of do [... read more]ing is bringing a fuzzy sheet from home to put next to me in the bed as I find crawling into the resort sheets seem to be damp feeling. I bring one that I don't mind leaving behind.

Club Tropical: Quiet hotel

The hotel is quite small but that was what we were looking for this time. It is rated 2 1/2* so we knew what to expect. The rooms were small but clean with nice bathrooms and large closets. The food was excellent and being a small place no long lines at the buffet or the bar. The beach is only a few feet beyond the pool and the staff was friendly and helpful when needed. Although this hotel is located right in the middle of the town of Varadero it is perfect for a nice quiet vacation!

Brisas Del Caribe: Basic but clean, great beach

This resort was basic as we expected. It was clean and the rooms are not very nice (bathroom was updated) but the bed was comfortable, the food was edible and the beach was great. I like a smaller resort as it's easy to get around. Lobby staff were not helpful and not honest - most of the rest of the staff were great - very friendly. They ran out of beach towels most days. There wouldn't be enough good beach chairs if it was busy. The shower water was 'warm', never hot. Our room smelled a bit mu [... read more]sty/damp and like smoke but was clean except for the stained bath mat. The 24hr 'snack bar' had only 4-5 things on the menu and they weren't great so had to make sure we got food at the buffets. The beach grill burgers were good but it always closed early and dinners don't start until 7pm. The a la carte restaurants were good and a nice break from the boring buffet food (which I'm told is just Cuba). The bathrooms were not well-maintained and ran out of paper sometimes. Overall, for the price you got some value and if you're not too picky I would recommend this resort. Others I was with enjoyed it more than I did - nice but nothing special.

Hotel Tuxpan: Value Resort

Older resort with an outstanding beach. Good service, great location. For budget minded travelers, this resort is all that you need. Close to the town and airport which is another plus for some travelers.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Nice resort! Food not so great....

Nice resort (average for all inclusives that I've been to) but the food was awful. Everything is imported from China, vegetables are canned, meat is poor quality. We felt sick the whole week and still do several days later. The people working here are all very nice and helpful. The beach and pools are awesome. Overall the experience would have been great had it not been for the terrible food.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Great Time

Upon arrival my boyfriend and I were created by very friendly staff and handed a drink! This is our second time to Cuba and not our last, however we probably wouldn't choose this resort again. The resort was beautiful and very large, but definitely geared more towards yong families and elders. We are both in our 20s and did not see a lot of the same age group. The resort staff were absolutely amazing. The food was good, I don't like seeing reviews where people tear the food and little things apart. Its Cuba people..relax you're on vacation lol But yea always found something good to eat and of course the drinks are spectacular! Unfortunately we had some cooler days when we went this time around (jan 22-29 2016) but obviously made the most of them! The sports bar was so cool and the a la carts were awesome..especially the Japanese! We saw a lot of wedding parties and spoke to a couple I guess the price is very reasonable so that's something to keep in mind! Overall another great trip to Cuba!

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Sun and Sand but Be Prepared

Love the beach with gorgeous ocean view. Enjoyed the good pool area with a delish pina colada. Food is very bland but there's a great omelette bar for breakfast, and pasta bar for supper. Yummy cappuccinos at main bar. Entertainment is very poor. Bring toilet paper and tissues; paper products in Cuba are scarce, trust me! People are friendly. If you're paying three figures, go, but go prepared!

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: Great Vacation

My girlfriend and I visited in late January 2016. This resort met our expectations by Cuban standards. Food in the buffet was decent once you find a few things you like. Omelettes and fruit are great in the morning and the fresh fish station is great at lunch and dinner. We brought some hot sauce to add flavour. The room was quite big and clean though there were some harmless insects here and there, which is to be expected so don't leave sugary drink cups around. Service was great, especially if you tip at the outset (don't be stodgy about this, this is how they make a living and feed their family) and get to know the staff a bit. Rum drinks are made with watery Cubay but they will make them with Havana Club if you ask. The Piano Bar has the best booze selection and excellent entertainment. The outdoor entertainment was great too, including a breathtaking gymnastic/acrobatic display. The water sports were fun; a very short catamaran ride is free or you can give the guys a few bucks and they'll take your group out for a longer ride, which was great for us. If you are sensitive to noise or like to go to bed early, make sure they give you a room away from the theatre and the disco. If you are nearby facing these buildings it will be noisy in your room until late. The age demographic was older than we expected, so don't expect to party with people in their 20s. If you want to take a daytrip to Habana it is cheaper to hire a local driver than take the hotel bus "excursion." We hired Carlos (his # is 5278627.) He spent the whole day with us. He is an excellent guide with a nice car (1989 Mercedes), excellent English, and lots to share about the country. Overall we would recommend this resort. Keep your expectation reasonable - Cuba is still under a punishing embargo that restricts their access to many many things - and you'll have a great time :-) Also, bring some gifts for the people who help make your vacation fun - they appreciate all used clothes, sunglasses, hair products, etc. If you really want to make a local woman's day, bring down some hair extensions :-) Bring insect repellent so the mosquitoes don't shred your ankles! Bon voyage!

Sol Varadero Beach: Old and running down

The resort was old and poorly maintained. Doors creaked,the shower,TV and telephone did not work. They weren't fixed even till the last day. The room was not cleaned properly. The food was really mediocre. The beach was beautiful.

Hotel Los Cactus: Beautiful people

Large, spacious condo type accommodations. Staff is amazing, so kind and helpful. Very clean, food was good. Location to beach only steps away, nice chaise lounges and sand groomed daily. Only drawback was that the hot tubs were not hot.

Blau Varadero: Very nice resort

My husband and I just came back from a wonderful vacation at the Blau Varadero. We had a very good time and no complaints. The staff and the food are excellent. I even receive a small birthday cake, what a nice touch would go back anytime

Hotel Bella Costa: Good People

Most of the staff were great. Food was above average, lots of variety and fresh. Resort needs some updating: paint, leaking roof, more seating in the lobby area and new cushions on the existing chairs. A big upgrade would be king size sheets..

Hotel Tuxpan: Very nice resort

We enjoyed our week here on Jan 22, 2016 to Jan 29, 2016. Just a couple of issues. Elevators are a little iffy so stairs aren't your thing this isn't your resort. Even with the elevators there are a lot of stairs involved. We didn't need the air conditioner while we were there but it worked. Rooms are dated but clean. We were to get a bottle of water every day but only got two for our stay there. This is our 6th time to Cuba at all different resorts and but buffet here was not the best. A lot of Cuban food, don't get us wrong we are not picky at all and we are not new to Cuban food but there was not a big selection except for desserts. The layout didn't seem the best either. You had to wait in one big line up for whatever you wanted from bread to meat. No toaster as well. The pools are best we have used since coming to Cuba and the ocean walks were good as well. There is quite a step down to the beach (about a 2ft drop) as the ocean is reclaiming the beach. People did cut steps into the bank which made it easier to get down. The staff are helpful and Danielo at the swim up bar was the best. Like every resort there are always some arrogant vacationers who feel it's all about them, you know the ones, the ones that set their alarm to get their towels on the pool chairs. Some even saved pool chairs and took their room towels to the beach. It's almost always the same at every resort we have stayed at in Cuba. No worries here though, they got a shock when they found out there were always ample chairs for everyone; again, the pools were great. Do yourself a favor and go into town and get your self in front of the Beatle's Bar. Walk down the street to the left of Beatles and go to the end (just up and over a very small hill on the street). At the end just take a few steps to the right and you'll be in front of Waco's Restaurant. A great little restaurant and very small and upscale place. You can eat inside, outside or on the roof. The wife had the 1/2 chicken and I had the lobster tails (comes with 2). With the meal you get specialty water, a very nice salad, bread, potatoes, vegetables and a Mohito. All this and the bill came to 40 pesos. A cab from the Tuxpan to the downtown huge flea market is 10 pesos, then 5 pesos to the Beatles Bar and then 5 pesos back to the Tuxpan Resort, worth the trip and a nice way to spend a 1/2 day or longer if you like. We'd go back but would spend more time eating off site. Breakfast is the best.....Tip Your Eggman... ;-).

Brisas Del Caribe: Not going back!

The food was not great! The grounds were nice! Rooms were not very nice! Pillows Sucked! Loved the barista bar, beach bar and lobby bar were great! We stayed in the main building which was I think the only place to stay. I am sure if the weather was better it would have helped for a better vacation. The staff that ran all the activities by the pool were amazing! The entertainment was wonderful! The lineups for lunch and dinner were too long. Not a big enough dining room for the size of the resor [... read more]t! I guess the worst part of my vacation was the food! Have been to a resort where the food was outstanding!

Hotel Los Cactus: Not what I expected

Upon arriving to hotel we did not receive a warm welcome from front desk. We had friends meet us there and had been to their room. Informed us there were no coffee machine in room and beds were extremely hard, informed us to request a bed topper and a coffee machine. After 14 days we never receive the bed topper, coffee machine we were given didn't work. The room was clean, ocean view, the patio door was damaged with a piece of plywood in the glass section of door, by first week we had to call t [... read more]o have door fixed as it would not slide, a gentleman came up and put a silicone on but it really didn't work. We had a wonderful housekeeper, her name was Gloria. She spoke wonderful English, great personality and did a fantastic job. Every morning would go to buffet and stop and bar outside to get hot water and milk for team, depending who was working you could stand there for sometime to be waited on. But if Damarys was working always got a smile and quick service, buffet was awful with birds flying around and feeding off p,ages on tables or getting into dessert table or salad bar. I found that very disturbing.the food from week to week was repetitive. You could find something to eat but was usually cold. We ate lots of pasta as it was heated for you on the stop.cold cuts and cheese was left out not kept cool. Breads and buns were great. The beach was nice, but the weather was awful so we only walked it a few times. The bar by the gym was quiet and met some nice people and the bartender was exceptional. We did the Italian ala caret the most and the food and service was good. I know I sound like I am complaint but we travel every spring and this trip was my worst. Thank goodness our travel friends were there to help us through our two week stay.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Location Location Location

The Hotel was clean very close to the town strip, shops, flea markets, 3 minutes from the famous Calle 62 bar dance club. Staff friendly but they all lack the english language, very little speak and understand it. Was on the 2nd floor just killed one large cockroach 2 -3 days after arrival .Nightly entertainment very good superb talent of the young dance company that plays there.
