Starfish Varadero: Fantastic Vacation

Visited Jan 27 to Feb 3rd, 2016. Travelled with a friend and we booked single accommodation. On arrival, we were assigned rooms in different wings. In under 10 minutes we were moved closer together, 1606 and 1610. Fantastic newly renovated rooms, new bathrooms with tubs, very convenient. We had visited 3 years ago and the upgrades at the resort were very notable, I know there is still a lot to be done and it does not happen overnight. The promised beach towel and water were in the room and water [... read more] replenished every day. The staff were fantastic everywhere and it was nice to see so many that we had met before. Our rooms were kept spotless as well as the hall. Maid was a bundle of joy. Pools were sparkling and surrounding area very well cared for. Visited the beach which was extremely popular. No words to describe the water, beautiful colour. had no problems at all with the food, so much to choose from. We did the 3 ala carte resteraunts, loved the Cuban, not so much the seafood but the best of all was the Italian. Cant say enough about it, great atmosphere, impeccable service and the best thin crust pizza I have ever eaten. The Sunwing reps were very good, offered help with any problem and were very easy to find. Hotel staff were great in every area we were and the Manager himself was highly visible, I wondered at times if he ever slept. it was nice to see the patio off the lobby bar being used. A great place for an after dinner drink and listen to music. Made use of the Hop on Hop off bus to do a little touring downtown. Great way to see everything. Truly had a marvelous week and we intend to go back next year.

Hotel Bella Costa: Good resort

It was a nice hotel but the building needs an update. The food was good as well and it was unlimited. The service was great and the people are very friendly. The beach is stunning. I really enjoy all the free activities included and the show every night was fun.

Be Live Turquesa: A Cuban 3 Star

This was our second time to this resort, the first being 2 years ago so there were no surprises. The good; The beach is as good as it gets in Varadero, 5 stars here. The food is typical Cuban. Plenty of it and very short wait time for food cooked on the spot. Staff were friendly after you got to know them but they didn't go out of their way. The pool is ok about the size you would expect on a small resort. The bad; The resort is small and old. It's seen better days. They are doing up grades like new pavers around the pool and entertainment areas and while we were there they were replacing all the TV's The food is typical Cuban, bland and usually not very hot. The bars were constantly out of "stuff" I.e. The lobby bar, "Le Mojito" could not make Mojitos must evenings because the were out of mint. For some reason that I don't get. They don't pay attention to the little details. I could give numerous examples but one small one... They usually didn't but the lights on on the long halls on the back of our building (#4 near the lobby) so we were constantly walking to our room and entering in the dark. I could go on but this is a 3 star so you get what you pay for. I'd go back. The beach is fantastic, you can get anywhere in a few minutes, the food is ok. We didn't need 6 or 22 a la carte's. The beer was cold and free. And the rooms were clean but tired.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: nice good location resort

yery practical to get around resort for restaurant, bars, beach and varadero. no complaints about the food and room ,clean resort. What I did not like,lot of employees don't speak English/French ,we've been going there for many years

Muthu Playa Varadero: Never again

The food was terrible and rooms not nice with terrible beds and rolls of cotton for pillows. Which smelt horrible. Was sick 4/10 days from food. Beach was beautiful as was the ocean. Weather was good too. Glasses always had ashes in them that's gross.

Muthu Playa Varadero: Over all pretty good

This resort is listed as a 4 star, i think it's technically a 3 star based on it being an older out dated resort, however the service is excellent and the staff are very prompt. Never waited long for anything. The beach is beautiful and the food was good. The magic show was excellent and the dance shows are fantastic. The temperatures were cold and rainy during our 7 day visit ranging from 16-23 and there was not much to do during the day to pass the time, A games room would be beneficial. Grand Memories Varadero: NOT GOOD

Hi, Let me start by saying that I have never made a public complaint before but felt it necessary with our recent trip to Cuba. My husband and I just returned from the grand memories resort in varadaro Cuba. We are very disappointed with sunwing promoting this as a 4 plus star resort. We paid extra for diamond club yet received nothing extra. In fact many things shocked us as very bad for this so called "diamond club" that we paid extra for. Our patio door did not lock. Our bed was horrid with  [... read more]springs coming through. The sheets were stained. We often had towels not replaced in our bathroom. But our biggest concern with this resort was the public washrooms off the pool, lobby and resteraunts had no toilet tissue, no soap and no paper towels. We tried to express our concerns to the sunwing rep and we were offered the diamond club sanctuary at an extra cost of $300!!! They said it was much better over there. Well, we thought paying for diamond club would at least ensure such things as the basics like soap in a washroom! We heard later of many that were sick while staying here. And we have noticed the trip advisor rating has dropped dramatically on this grand memories. If sunwing promotes such "2 star" resort as 4 plus then I will stop using them in the future. Also as mention the rep on site did nothing to help us, except to say we could pay even more to go to the " better" section! Our grand memories unfortunately are not so grand at all.

Muthu Playa Varadero: Good Value , Nice clean small Resort

This resort is a clean good value Resort ,,. yes it is dated and needs a little tlc but I can over look a paint peel here and there .., our room was clean and had a fantastic view , the beach was great, the people are great, the food was ok

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Amazing Birthday Trip!

The resort is perfect for the combination of relaxation but also those that want to have some fun. The resort was in good condition, food was good and the people are really nice and fun. Enjoy the trip!

Hotel Bella Costa: Great resort!

My family and I had a great time! Everyone was really nice! And the beach was great! Food was pretty good, Pasta guy was really funny and always made the kids laugh. I recommend this resort to any family looking for a nice relaxing time.

Resonance Blu Varadero: above average

Overall we think it was ok. We think there should be ropes to guide people to the food in the buffet. To many people and kids just butting in the line and didn`t like the kids without parents running all around and touching food. This was our first time to Cuba and the people were really nice. The workers at the resort were hard workers. Had some room issues that were quickly fixed. The food in the buffet was not hot mostly cool. We were in the very back building. Starfish Varadero: Nice place

Food good, beautiful beach however maintenance problems I.e.no working air conditioner and plumbing problems Entertainment great every night and pool area clean. Close to Havana for visit and hop on off bus to town of varadero

Melia Marina Varadero: A solid package

Bre from Trip Central efficiently helped me to decide on and book this resort in a 10 minute discussion. Great job! Sun wing check in and flying experience both in Toronto and Varadero was great. At Melia, just a little confusion on giving me a classic room instead of marina room which I paid for. After clarification, front desk helped me to get the top floor (the best) after lunch. We asked at around 4:00 pm for table due to cancellation and got 2 extra night at a la ca restaurants. The evening entertainment was good and we actually enjoyed all 7 nights performance! Juan was a great entertainment host and a great ping pong partner with my husband. Unfortunately not a lot of guests are interested in the day time programs therefore lots of scheduled activities like dance lesson, h2o gym, stretching etc did not take place. Nice lobby lounge, nice drinks, nice marina, decent food in Cuban standard. My husband and I had a great relaxing experience.

Hotel Villa Cuba: Exellent food

Rooms need renovation and new furnitures,food was very good,staff was nice, short distance to the beautiful and clean beach,people very friendly,I think they need only work better on entertainment for guests.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: expected more

I did not travel to Cuba with overly high expectations, given I've travelled to Cuba several times in the past and only go to 4.5 + star hotel ratings in that country. Although my trip and stay at Iberostar Laguna Azul was for the most part enjoyable, I was quite disappointed that there was no hot water....which was a little warm at best, and the towels in the room were extremely worn out and old. What upset me the most, which is why I would not recommend an Iberostar resor [... read more]t in the future, is that somehow miraculously all my above complaints improved as soon as we found out Iberostar representatives were on the premises and handing out questionnaires to guests asking for their opinion on the resort. All of a sudden, the water was a little warmer, the towels were clean looking and newer, and there was a larger variety of food choices at the buffet. The fact that the hotel was not living up to it's standards is a reason never to return there.

Hotel Acuazul: Okay resort, Amazing Beach

Very small resort, only liked the beach across the street. Food ok, had same food everyday. Pool very small and cold. But weather was great for beach everyday, good time if you love thebeach and good drinks

Club Kawama: Club Kawama Varadero Cuba

Jan 18 to Feb 01 2016 We went to Cuba at this hotel I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, its the oldest hotel on the strip and the staff just don't care about your problem. The food is the same every day, not much change even on the weekend. The problems are 1- Big hotel with no map of the grounds we where 8 minutes from the room to the lobby 2- Staff in not able to do anything about the rude people that causes problems in the restaurants 3- Two restaurants on the property one at each end [... read more] of the grounds 12 minute walk from our room to the second restaurant. 4-Everyone is looking for tips but few will give you the service we expect like getting coffee at the table in the morning 5-The bad weather is a factor but the hotel does not have anyplace to go to no game room 6-We went out several nights to the local bar for good food. 7-The beds where old and need to be replaced 8-The beach chairs are old and lots are broken, people where taking the good chair from the pool area 9-The pool was not clean and need repair. 10-The bars, some only served beer other where liquor but not both.

Hotel Los Cactus: Fantastic resort and staff!!!

I can't say enough good things about this place. The room was much bigger than I expected with a great balcony. The food was great and always fresh. The beach was fantastic. The best part was the staff though. They made the stay amazing.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Middle of the Pack

Grounds were ok, lots of cracked tiles in hallway and elevators. Not enough lighting in hallways. Patio seating had way too much bird droppings on them. (too many birds in eating patio's. Room towels too thin and not enough of them to go around. Pool towels the same, couldn't get a fresh one daily. Bed mattress worn could feel coil springs through them, not very comfortable really. Room itself was clean enough but not to Grandma's liking...(could have been more clean.)

Starfish Varadero: A touch post-apocalyptic but overall...FUN!

My sister and I had a great time but the grounds were super sketchy and run-down in a lot of areas, all the meat tasted weird or was undercooked (I ate a lot of bread), we couldn't snorkel because the water was very churny and rough most of the time, I'm covered in bites, the locals are AGGRESSIVELY flirty, and my stomach did NOT fare well. But, you know, CHEAP! I mean...definitely go for the fun of Cuba but expect bites, stomach issues, and sub-par food and cleanliness.
