Plaza Pelicanos Club: There's a twist you should know first.
There are 3 resorts in a row. Two with similar names on each side of one, (Sunset?) which is currently under renovation and expansion. Plaza Pelicanos Grand and Plaza Pelicanos Beach Club are NOT the same. PP Beach Club will be demolished to continue the expansion of the middle resort. This background is important to understand in this review.
PP Beach Club has a beautiful location with 2 pools. One pool is beside the beach and has a bar, snack bar, and area for shows. The rooms, another[... read more] pool and diningroom are across a street from the beach/other pool area. Because this section of the resort will be torn down, the maintenance is subpar. Light fixtures are literally not attached to the wall, bulbs are burnt out, shower sprays over entire bathroom, and air conditioning is set at cold (no matter the setting). I'm not joking when i say i slept in my winter coat! There is no lockbox for valuabes in the room unless you ask to have it installed for your stay. The food was horrible. If you're coming to Mexico for the food, look elsewhere.
Drinks were fine, pool area by the beach was very nice but the snack bar was also not good. Hamburgers and hotdogs and fries. Rarely even tortilla chips... that's a staple in my opinion.
If you get a great price, it might be worth it for location alone but if you have expectations of the basic Mexican resort experience, you will be disappointed.

Majestic Mirage Costa Mujeres All Suite Resort: luxury Resort
I had an incredible stay at this hotel. Everything about it felt luxurious, from the beautifully designed rooms to the overall atmosphere throughout the property. The food was exceptional, with every meal exceeding expectations, and the service was consistently outstanding. Housekeeping kept everything spotless and truly added to the comfort of the stay. I swear they came twice a day.
A special shoutout to the entertainment team, especially Jorge Valles. He was absolutely fantastic, always smil[... read more]ing, always welcoming, and genuinely inclusive. He made everyone feel comfortable joining in and brought such positive energy to every activity. His enthusiasm really elevated the entire experience.
This hotel delivers luxury in every sense, and I can’t recommend it enough. I’m already looking forward to returning.

Armony Marival Resort and Spa Punta de Mita: Beautiful Resort
This resort was great. We had a 10 day stay and did not go off site at all. The grounds were jungle lush, the restaurants were very good and the staff was so helpful and friendly. The expanse of a beautiful beach made morning and evening walks awesome.
The entertainment was more interactive than larger resorts and appropriate for all age groups.
Yoga every day, join in on daily events at the main pool overlooking the ocean or choose a quiet pool to relax.
We had a walk out room and a pool and[... read more] bar were right there, it was great.
This resort is on a cliff so there are stairs leading down to the beach so if you have mobility issues and you want beach time that might be an issue.
The one thing that seemed to confuse us was each time you got food you would be asked to sign a "bill". We had an all inclusive so did not understand the need for that but I feel it was for their records keeping. We always signed and were not charged anything at the end of the stay.
Would recommend you give this resort a try.

Barcelo Maya Palace: Super Resort
The check in was a bit chaotic and disorganized.
The room was super spacious and clean.
The resort itself, including all pools, is beautiful, clean, well maintained and people are very friendly and accommodating.
The food was excellent; buffet and restaurants.
The beach was a bit rocky but some parts were fine.
I would definitely go back.

Catalonia Yucatan: Great family resort
We went here on our first family vacation with my six-year-old and my 11 year-old and my husband. in terms of the room, they were kept clean and tidy daily but Definately dated it didn’t bother us at all. There was many swimming areas as the two hotels are attached. This ocean was super safe. There was a little lagoon with lots of fish and sea creatures to look at with snorkels and use kayaks and the other side of the ocean was blocked off so it’s super safe from any under toes. We really enjoye[... read more]d the breakfast and the lunches at the buffet however, the dinners were just subpar. I do suggest trying to make reservations right away for the à la carte. I did that night and I could only get two in at the end of our trip the Mexican and the Italian. My husband says that the Mexican was a three out of 10 and had small portions but he is a bigger guy so for the kids and I I found it fine. Porto Ventura is just a walk away. It’s a cute little area with many restaurants. Dolphins manatees and shops. A short drive to Playa Del Carmen, which is always a great visit. But a very safe, clean and fun hotel resorts, especially with the family all in all.
I would Rate it 8/10

Majestic Mirage Costa Mujeres All Suite Resort: Supper place to stay for a week.
The staff were top rated. Always a hello and big smile. Quick to help. Food was in abundance warm, fresh fruit and vegetables. Rooms huge, spacious. Lovely towels. Beautiful sand beaches lots of places to relax at the pool or beach.
Did not like being asked to pay US Dollars. It screened that I was staying in an American resort and not Mexico resort. That was not fair. We paid 28. dollars US for a deck of cards in a store at the hotel. Very disappointed in that.

Planet Hollywood Cancun by Royalton: Great Beach-Poor Service
We usually really enjoying staying at any of the Royalton owned resorts, unfortunately this one left us a little disappointed. The resort grounds were beautiful and very well kept. The food overall was good with lots of variety, which made it easy to find something for everyone each day. The beach was a standout—soft sand, crystal blue water, and truly stunning. It was one of the best parts of the trip. Unfortunately, the room felt very run down, even after an upgrade to the star class side. We [... read more]got the Entourage suite which is a king bed with a pull out couch for the four of us- we arrived really late at the resorts and there were no sheets or blankets for the kids bed- when we asked for them, they just gave us sheets and no blankets (this was at 2am- so at that point we just made due for the night) we didn’t receive a duvet until night 3. The cabinet doors wouldn’t close, drawers didn’t open properly, lifted ceiling tile in the bathroom, and the shower head was falling off the wall to name a few examples. Housekeeping was minimal (no sweeping or shower cleaning), and we had to repeatedly ask for towels and for the bar fridge to be restocked with water. Lines were long throughout the resort (45 min wait at the coffee shop). The pools were advertised as heated but were freezing cold and went mostly unused by anyone all week (I think the whole week we were there, there might have been a hand full of people using it)- we found out this issue has been on going since November. It was still nice to get away, and any one of these issues on its own would have been manageable. However, taken together, they left a sour taste and didn’t quite live up to expectations for a resort at this level.

Decameron Los Cocos Guayabitos Ramada: Wonderful Location
The beauty of this resort is a great location, and wonderful helpful and friendly staff. Our room was dated but clean. There were plenty of options included in the buffet and the food was always fresh. I loved the fresh guacamole served at the snack bar and opted to eat there at lunch instead of the buffet. The snack bar usually opened around noon and is located behind the main bar by the buffet. We spent a fair amount of time in the bar which is located on the other side of the snack bar area. [... read more]It is enclosed and in a shady area. This bar was usually quiet with no lineup like the main bar has. We walked to local restaurants for dinner a couple of days. Both Wanda's Burger & Ribs and Mona Lisa Pizza were great off resort meals. We went to two local markets and shopping in the small local stores.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and especially the wonderful people!

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Lovely Resort
Our building location was ideal. They put us in the adult only section of the resort, close to the infinity pool, overlooking the beautiful carribean sea, and only steps from the adult only restaurant Katook.
Food - The food was not great. The buffet dishes were cold, some food items not fresh and dishes were not replenished in a timely fashion.
We took in three a'la carte restaurants and those too, were not fantastic as you would think it would be at the resort.
As Pickleball has bec[... read more]ome extremely popular among players, it would be nice to have more than two courts in the entire Bahia Principe Resourt, and spread out among the different resorts (Akamal, Tequila, Coba, etc.)

Friendly Fun Vallarta: Good yet disappointing
The grounds staff, room staff, front desk staff and restaurant staff were all amazing. Incredibly friendly and helpful. ?
The grounds were kept spotless. ????
The hotel rooms were spacious, spotless, cleaned daily and offered an amazing oceanview from the balcony.
The beach area was nice but we were not able to swim in the ocean due to strong currents, and warnings of dangerous animals such as scorpions, jelly fish and crocodiles. So everyone just used the pools and hot tubs.
Some of the s[... read more]pecialty restaurants were closed, one for the entire vacation and another open from time to time only.
The food (buffet style) rarely changed and was basically the same every day in all 3 buffet locations.
Entertainment….one night there was an hour-long 12-person Mariachi band and they were incredible. They could have played 3 hours and attracted a massive audience. Other evenings the entertainment was rather bland…..loud dance music aimed at a younger crowd despite the fact that the hotel guests were mostly in their 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s.
The one disappointing daily complaint was the ongoing extremely loud music that blared from numerous loudspeakers every day from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. You couldn’t get away from it. It was mostly Latin and Salsa music, not music most guests were familiar with. And it was so loud that enjoying nice conversations with anyone was often impossible unless you were shouting. Several people asked that the music level be turned down but those requests were totally ignored.
For all the friendliness and kindness shown by the staff members, the overall rating was for this resort is just average due to the lack of variety in cuisine and the ongoing loud music that didn’t stop until 11 p.m.

Krystal Grand Puerto Vallarta: Krystal Grand - Hcienda
We travelled to Puerto Vallarta the last week of January to celebrate my 70th birthday. This was our first time in that town and we stayed at the Krystal Grand Hacienda. The room was very spacious and clean, we had little issues with the overhad shower dripping if you used the wall shower but that's minimal. THe rounds were impeccable. The staff were very helpful and courteus! The food was good and we enjoyed the a la carte restaurants, Italian being our favourite (there were 8 of us there to[... read more] celebrate my birthday and they put us in the most beautiful room in the restaurant ) followed by the French and the Seafood restaurans. It can be a little tricky to book the restaurants but you can do it online. The buffet is okay, you always find something you like. The pool area in the hacienda is nice and quiet being on the adult side there isn't much acitivities and you have to get up early to get chairs but we seem to always found a couple. If you want more action you want to be on the family side. I find the hacienda secluded from the rest. I missed looking at the sea and being on the beach so we would go spend some time on the other side to enjoy the view. That's my only negative. but the place is close to shopping if you feel like it. A little out of the way of the Malecon but you can take the bus for 5 pesos if you are a senior otherwise it is 10 pesos.
Finally, I will talk about the transfer from and to the Airport. From the Airport we had no issues. Going back to the Airport was another story, we left on the 30th of January and there was a protest scheduled that day and there road closures so the bus couldn't make it to the hotel.. so we we told that were two options, one take a cab who also couldn't come to the hotel or walk to the closest Mall (Wal-Mart) 20 minutes walk to catch the bus who was supposedly waiting for everyone. We go there and there were no bus, we waited awhile still no bus. We were told to walk another half kilometer and we would find cabs. Well we didn't and at that point if was another 50 minutes walk to the Airport. I stopped and asked a Police Officer where we could find a cab and by chance there was a 12 passenger van going by at that time and the cop ordered the man to take us to the Airport , we could only fit 10 with all the bags and sadly the other 4 had to walk the rest. We were not impressed by the fact that Nexus who is responsible for the transfers was not more organized. I don't know if I would go back to that hotel but it was not bad for our first visit.

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Gorgeous and Delicious
This beautiful resort is on a stunning stretch of beach, and if the ocean isn't your thing, there are so many pools! The food everywhere is great - at the buffet, the themed restaurants, even the poolside food trucks. Staff are very friendly and helpful and the whole place is just lovely. Our room was spacious and very comfortable.
If I had one complaint it would be the evening entertainment. The evening shows are held outside by the main pool. There is not enough seating to accommodate every[... read more]one and the shows themselves are difficult to watch while standing. In other resorts there are cultural, comedy and music shows to watch after dinner in a separate theatre, and often a disco-like space for dancing and drinking until late. If you enjoy this kind of late-night vibe, we didn't find it here.
We did take a couple of excursions which were amazing. Catamaran trips to Isla Mujeres, cultural tours of Mayan ruins and other trips are available at reasonable rates. We really enjoyed our week!
