Grand Palladium Select Bavaro: Punta Cana Trip Aug 2016
OK. let me start by saying this was our honeymoon resort 10 years ago. We returned here 10 years later with the kids (three girls 7, 4, 3) - Aug 2016. We flew Air Transat. Only good thing was registering for their Kids Club -- totally free and fully worth it. You get your kids seats selection for free (basically only pay for the two adults). You can use the club class line to check in. You get a snack coupon for each kid since they dont give out snacks on these flights unless you pay for them.

Got to the Bavaro resort lobby around 1:30. Got our check in documents/keys, etc and received a cold welcome drink. Concierge said the room will be ready only around 3:30--that's how it started. Believe me I know what i'm getting into with All-inclusive trips and realize there will be minor little issues here and there, so keep this in mind while reading. I will "TIP" along the way for useful things we learned that you could take advantage of.
TIP: if you love walking this is the place to go. If you have little kids that don't like walking, try a smaller resort. This place is pretty huge. Take the little coach train that drive around every 20 minutes to get from one spot to another.
TIP: use the map they give you -- you will need it.
We walked around and took the train to the first dining spot we saw -- Las Torres buffet. The whole resort is divided into four sections (Bavaro, Punta Cana, Palace, Royal Suites). You can make use of most of their facilities. Went back at 3:30. Got to building 26 to see the room was not even ready.
They moved us to the adjacent building (building 24). Standard Room (Master Junior suite: two double beds, pullout couch, separate washroom and a small balcony facing the grounds.
Sink got clogged the first time we used it. We all went swimming and walked back around 7. Key didn't work. Tried a bunch of times. I then had to leave my wife and 3 kids standing there wet and ran in my slippers all the way to the lobby (about 15 min walk). Later that night we moved to building 17 (Room 1712).
TIP: Building 17, 18, 19 are luxury buildings at Bavaro -- Building 19 I think is for Travel Club guests.
When we came back with the kids asleep we went into the new room and only then I noticed there is no separate washroom--this was some sort of couples room--couples who don't mind going to the washroom in an open concept room. The closure was a frosted glass door that was open at the bottom and top and the shower was the same. You can see pretty much everything. When we went to the washroom we had to send the kids to the outdoor patio. We thought we should be grateful and didn't want to say anything. (this was night 1/day 2).
Day 2 night-- the power goes off twice only in our suite -- we called for repair at 8 and when we came back to room at 11PM it was not done. We called again and repair man was in our room from 11:30PM - 12:15AM. Day 3, I had enough and we were moved to building 30 -- this was an upper room with an ocean view. It was a blessing. I hated to complain but we couldn't stay without a closed bathroom.
Restaurants:
We tried El Arrecife (buffet), Tapeo (spanish), Sports bar (bar food 24 hrs), Rodizio (Brazillian), Las Torres (buffet), Adelita (buffet).
TIP: dont waste time at Tapeo -- it was like some weird try at modern spanish fare. There was gray paste on our plate that was supposed to be a sauce. It tasted like you would image gray paste to taste.
Rodozio was okay. Meats were not great but the chicken at the steakhouse was good :-) The indian (Bhogali) was the best meal. Great curry and tasty naan break. Although the second time the curry had too much garlic salt.
TIP: The buffets are nice-- there is las torres in the punta cana side and then the main Adelita in the Bavaro lobby. The mangos is what drove me back to punta cana. i ate so much fruit for practically every meal --mangos, papaya, watermelon, passion fruit.
The Arrecife is crowded and open (no AC). Food wasn't so good here. Guy at the grilling station was switching from cutting raw chicken breast to flipping burgers and didn't really wash his hands -- salmonella for sure. He got busted by a guest so he grabs an egg, crushes it in his hand, uses that as soap and rinses it off. Island sanitizer?
Pools:
If you have kids, spend your day at the Kids club pool area (punta cana section). There's a big pool (shallow and deep end) as well as a splash pad area with a big pirate ship and small water slides. This is in the centre of the resort. The kids club is also very nice. It was a drop in sort of program but a lot of people left there kids there the whole day--weird. but i'm sure they had fun. They had a small rock climbing wall and a small zip line section and a movie theatre.
The Bavaro side pool is crowded and really dirty. the other pool in the Punta Cana section closer to the beach is also crowded and dirty. All the pools had tiles missing here and there and two of us cut our feet on these -- no good.
TIP: Bring lots of bandaids.
Beach:
The beach was amazing -- can't complain. The water is a little mirky, closer to the shore so you can really see much when under, but i'm sure it is clear when you go past the safety buoys. The chairs do get taken fast but we weren't there to sun tan, so all good. The sand is incredible, soft, and white (or yellow, i couldn't tell).
Souvenirs:
The resort has souvenir shops and also some vendors that come to the resort and setup tables. These are not locals but are employed by the hotel to sell--you really wont get a good deal or anything. The gift shops are okay for little magnets ($3/$4) but frames, shirts, etc are expensive.
The day before we left we found out about a free van that takes you off the resort to a local gift shop to buy souvenirs. We go to the little "strip mall" and went in. It was a clean mall like store. When we go in they said, "once you finish we will take you outside--more stuff there". So we bought a few magnets and went outside--we were ushered into another store--no price tags, so i figure this is the place to bargain--and it was.
TIP: Buy one or two small things in the first store and wait to shop at the second. We got tshirts, little glass bottles with sand, purses, etc.
Other:
The resort had a claim your prize thing on our door so we went to see. It was a sales tactic to sign up for their Palladium Travel Club. They took us to a staged room in building 19. It was the most amazing place i've seen. Honestly, take the tour for curiosity sake. After rejecting their sales pitch of $17000 membership, I asked for the prize. It was $100 off at the spa. My wife used it for a $99 massage. Fully worth it.
Muguel and Francisco from the front desk were very helpful in resolving any issues that arose.

Beautiful room and grounds. A la carte delicious, but the buffet needs a bit more selection. Beach is beautiful. Pools are nice. Long drive if you want to go to Negril or Montego Bay. Many of the rooms are air conditioned.

Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton: Great resort!
The resort is very well kept the staff keep the place very clean. The food was pretty good not great but pretty good. The only complaint we had was the housekeeping needs to restock all supplies every other day. We should not run out of things like toilet paper? Towels or shampoo. Entertainment was great! staff like Naby, red stripe and Happy are awesome!

Grand Palladium Punta Cana: A striving 5 star resort - Flaws trumps 5 star proclamation.
We traveled as group 18 (12 adults, 6 children ages 6-9) - July 30 to August 6, 2016.
Booked 6 rooms since March 2016.
I've been to 5 stars resorts every year for the last 13 years.
Not to bore you with details, our overall review is:
**This resort might look awesome in website pictures, with the 8 restaurant, huge facility, abundance of pools, nice looking rooms, BUT IN REALITY:
1 - Restaurants ARE a daily hassle. You need to line up since no reservations is allowed. And the food are [... read more]just fresh looking as the buffet.
2 - The Tram service to take you around is so minimal. It seems that there's only 2 train going around since the wait can be as long as 30 mins.
3- Pool are so hazy that your eyes will burn due to lack of chlorine. Its more evident if you look at the pool at night and you can not even see the bottom of the pool.
4 - Its nice to have a Jacuzzi, only if the jets are not so dirty looking. Our shower head was broken and so as the nozzle for the water to come up to the shower head. We gave up complaining about it that we have to place a YUCKY garbage can to the nozzle to shower decently. Our "clean" folded towel had black stains and questionably clean.
5- Vendors selling Jewelry and excursion on every turn. Everyday, you will have hassled. EVERYDAY!!
Most disappointing of all is the service and lack of friendliness by the staff and cook.
It wouldn't hurt to smile back when greeted.
I truly find the cleaning ladies to be snobs.
The pasta cook in one of the buffet looks like he doesn't care at all. And I have to line to him 3 times.
Customer service is obviously is not a priority to this resort.
With these flaws, this resort is a 3 star at its best.
Will not recommend to anyone.
Food will be the same all else, but its the service that counts.
Room Tip: Aging resort. Rooms are terrible. Service is awful. NOBODY cares about any problem.

Grand Palladium Punta Cana: Very disappointed
this hotel seems to cater to a certain group and there are different rules for different complexes, depending on where you're staying. we did not receive the room we requested, we were 3 in our group and housekeeping kept leaving us only 2 towels each day, beach towels were not readily available and we had to wait 3 days to get fresh towels. There is a bar in the room that gets replenished, but they don't give you a bottle opener to open and enjoy. When we asked for one, it took almost 4 days[... read more] to get one brought to our room. The buffets do not change at all, they are the same every day. There are many restaurants on site, and you're told that you don't need a reservation, but when you get to the restaurant for dinner, they tell you that you can't be seated until the Royal Suites group has had dinner cause they have reservations. This was the same at all the restaurants on site except the sports bar that only offered hamburgers and fries (YUK). The representatives ONLY SPOKE SPANISH so it was very hard to communicate with the staff. There was no entertainment by the pool as you would expect, and when there was, it was only related to in Spanish, so you had no idea what was going on. Asked for change at the registration desk to break $100 bill and came back home to find out by bank it was counterfeit.Paid almost $300.00 to our party of 3 to take a day tour of the capital and our tour guide spoke very little english, so we didn't get the information translated as to what he was saying. So poorly organised and the tour took over 13 hours to complete, way too long of a day!.
We are so disappointed with this vacation that we will never recommend this place to any family or friends. we expected so much and got so little.

Grand Palladium Punta Cana: Disappointing Hotel
When we booked this hotel, we were sold that it was going to be great and a lot of fun, however upon arrival, it was disaster after disaster. The hotel itself was much bigger than we expected as the restaurants are not all on the same resort, they span over the multiple Grand Palladium resorts that are connected and you have to try and find them and walk far to get to them, and the map they provide SUCKS! We were even advised by our Sunwing Rep that the map sucks so don't even bother using it!
[... read more]
When we arrived it took them forever to check us in, we were exhausted and hot and wanted to get to our room. Prior to coming we had requested to get a cot in our room, and when we arrived there was no cot so we requested one from the front desk. We had to call 5 times before someone came at 10pm that night. We were also only given 2 towels in the bathroom when we were in fact 4 guests, and surprise surprise, we had to call 5 times to get towels! There were also no beach towels left by 2pm when we arrived, which is not acceptable when this isn't peak season and the resort isn't booked out.
The room was good enough, however the pillows smelt like sweat, they were gross.
The pool was always filthy, with hair balls, cigarette buts and garbage, it was not properly maintained.
Service received from the staff was abysmal. When we went for breakfast or dinner at the buffet, we would usually get there shortly after it opened and we'd have to steal cutlery from other tables or coffee mugs because no one would come around to give us any of it.
When you book your excursions through the Dive Shop, you need to make sure they are not going to their buddy down the beach to book it because that happened to us and we tried to get our money back and it took a while to finally get it back.
They let a lot of hagglers on the resort so you get stopped every 5 minutes being asked to buy something or buy a tour which was really annoying, we’d avoid going certain ways or places because we knew there would be people to harass us.
The food was good, no complaints about the food and the bar service by the pool area was awesome, always someone walking around and bringing us drinks.
All in all I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, it was definitely not a 4 Star, more like a 2 ½ star. Very disappointing.

Grand Palladium Jamaica: Great stay at Grand Palladium Jamaica u
Our vacation was amazing from the moment we arrived to the moment we left the resort. The property was very clean including the rooms restaurants and beach/pool. Beautiful resort, lovely staff (especially nabi the animator), food is very good, beach is okay(not more than that). Only thing we did not like was that we cannot reserve for the restaurants which would mean some nights there were no place for us or we would have to go earlier

Grand Palladium Select Bavaro: Pleasant vacation
The hotel was nice on the second floor, the first floor smelled musty, the beach was beautiful, the grounds were well maintained. The staff very friendly. However, one of us had our toe cut open in the swimup bar pool and reported it, not much was done about it . While on the beach it was annoying being constanlty harrased by salesmen selling excursions. I would go back to Punta Cana again

Grand Palladium Kantenah: Amazing family trip!
We just got back from GPK and it was awesome! Our kids are 17, 11 and 4 and they are missing it already! The grounds are beautiful and very well kept. The beach is beautiful! A little bit of seaweed some days but no big deal. We loved the bridges and covered walkways. The food was great and the staff were friendly. We did lose power on and off in our room but I think it was from the thunderstorms that came and went quickly. Room service was fun and the pools were great. And the bars also have po[... read more]psicles and ice cream for the kids which is nice! We did 2 excursions. One to Xcaret Park which was amazing!!! And the second was a dolphin encounter at a hotel down the street. The dolphins were great!! The photo prices however were not! $225 USD for one disk of photos. And that was after I talked him down! Definitely haggle if you go, they're very open to bargaining. Over all the whole trip was an incredible experience that we would love to do again!

Grand Palladium Jamaica: Ok resort
This resort did not meet my expectations. The resort is big, prepare yourself for a lot of walking especially to the beach.
Staff is friendly and room was always cleaned. The downside to the room was when going to the bathroom all toilet paper would have to go in this little garbage big beside the bowl which didn't take much to fill up.
The food at the buffet was the same everyday with one or two changes. The mexican a la carte was the best. Only place you can have a good steak or filet migno[... read more]n.
The entertainment wasn't great. Every night the speakers were low, hardly heard the music and was just not entertaining.

Grand Palladium Jamaica: Great resort
Variety of beaches to choose from and a great pool. Loved sunset cove with the jerk chicken at lunch. Hotel maintained very well and food was delicious, would go back anytime. If you got excursions at the hotel it was very reasonably priced.
