Mar Del Sur: Great Resort for Less!!!

Clean Grounds Good Food Excellent Staff Overall, it was a great stay. Nightlife was good. People seemed to enjoy it. Never got to use the pool since the beach was out of this world. Varadero, city is beautiful too.

Melia Las Americas: Amazing resort

This resort is absolute heaven. The staff are friendly and there are plenty of commodities around the resort that make your stay memorable. I've been to Cuba four times myself and this time it was my girlfriend accompanying me to this resort. Out of all resorts i can confidently say this was the best Cuba has to offer to date. There are three pools and the views are amazing. We stayed in a bungalow with an amzing ocean view. Waking up in the mornings was worth it. The maid was very friendly and  [... read more]left us beers and waters dauly. We even had a complementary bottle of cuban rum. There is a ping pong table and pool table for those interested. What I found amazing is that the boat rides (sail boat, kayak and paddle boats) were free as part of our stay. The staff on the beach are generally disinterested in beeing pushy when compared to other resorts but they do remind you of their offers extra to those included. Our stay would have been better if only for better weather and better service at the beach. I would have rated 5 stars but those are pretty big pluses for us when staying in all inclusive resorts.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Beautiful resort!

The hotel was well kept, friendly staff, beautiful location, overall great experience! The food was not very good, we had food poisoning for a day however the rest of the vacation was relaxing and everything was taken care of for us.

Melia Las Antillas: Happy week.

Amazing resort, we enjoy the daily shows, the food was good and fresh, the staff very friendly, the Catamaran with dolphins tour was awesome , The only part they have to fix is the elevators. En general everything was good. Thanks

Club Kawama: Wasn't the best for the price.

My seven year old daughter and I just returned from a week at club kawama, this was our 5th time to Varadero . When we arrived we were shown to our room witch was right on the edge of the hotel property and the only window in our room faced into a local Cuban family's back yard. It had no air conditioning , the beds were not made and had no blowdryer. Mind you we are not picky people so we thought if we had sheets on the bed we could make due for the week., however after spending one night in th [... read more]e room and realizing how damp everything would be with no air conditioner and the fact the the family beside us had a dog that barked all night long we decided to say something and move. Of course there were "no other rooms avaliabe" unless I wanted to pay an extra $200 Canadian to move to a seperior room. They showed us the room and it was average , it was the type of room I would have expected to have been in at a 3 start resort to begin with. However we paid the $ and moved After talking to a few other people in the resort they said they had the same experience The buffet was also closed while we were there , you have to walk 10min either down the public road or on the property down a very poorly lit , very poorly mapped out trail of broken concrete sidewalks and abandoned buildings. The food was same old Cuban food but the problem was there wasn't enough. A few times for dinner there would be nothing left but rice and noodles and my daughter and I had to share a dinner plate on more then one occasion because there weren't any clean. On the positive side of things ,, the beach was amazing ! Always clean , no seaweed , lots of chairs .. The pools were also great , always clean. The location of this hotel Couldnt be better , right in town. There is a restaurant just up the st called Kiki's, we had pizza and a few drinks at a very cheap price. And the best thing about the whole place was the night shows.!!! They were really, really good !!! Best we have ever seen.!! Not your typical dancing in really old costumes lol. They really involved the audience and were very funny !! Don't miss the magic show ,, hilarious !!!!

Gran Caribe Sun Beach: Satying at Sunbeach Hotel-Varadero

My experience at Sunbeach Hotel in Varadero was not a great one. To begin with, at the check in, the receptionist held my passport without my consent and only returned to me after I went back to the reception and I insisted to have my passport back. Next morning when I went to breakfast I saw some clients upset and worried because they were asking for their passport and the receptionist was having a hard time to find it. In addition to it, they also held my e-ticket and they LOST IT. It have cau [... read more]sed some stress. The restaurant is small and the exhaustor doesn`t work very well. When you have your breakfast, lunch or dinner in the restaurant, you will leave there with a strong smell of food. A very small variation of food, but the worse, that is a LOTS OF FLYES on the food all the time. Disgusting...

Hotel Villa Cuba: 2 star at best

First of all this hotel is not called BE LIVE EXPERIENCE. We found this out after riding for over an hour on the bus and not making it to our resort...the hotel changed names years ago and is now called Villa Cuba. We upgraded to a Villa which just fit 2 twin size beds and an old tv. The shower head was not attached and we had to use it as a hand held shower. The resort itself has very friendly staff. The food was not good but have heard that it's all the same in all of the resorts.

Melia Las Americas: Walk to golf each morning

Perfect location right on the golf course and on the beach. Rooms were clean but basic. Staff were friendly and accommodating for the most part but having a CUC in one hand at all times improved the service immensely. Food in Cuba is very different but you could find something that suited your taste and dietary needs. The Japanese restaurant was the best and would recommend making reservations when you first arrive. The ocean was beautiful, the onsite pools were very cold though.

Palma Real: Great location!

The hotel was within walking distance to the Main Street and the beach. We felt completely safe there. We enjoyed going to Havana for a day trip. It cost $100cdn each and that included a lunch. We had to switch rooms 3 times because of mold and poor view. They were very accommodating about this. More so than we expected. Bring your own travel cups for drinks and water bottles. Do not have any mixed drinks outside your resort...made that mistake! Should have brought a pillow from home since there [... read more] was only one each. Tip your maid and you'll get better service (and towel creatures). Food wasn't terrible. We stayed away from the jellied salads which were the leftovers. The bread was fabulous!! Loved the omelette station in the a.m. We stayed in building 4 on the 4th floor and the 1 elevator that was working broke down half way through the week and never got fixed. We got our exercise! Loved the Black & White bar in building 4. Quieter and much nicer. They served our drinks in glasses rather than the small plastic cups. We would stay here again if we wanted to go for a cheaper vacation. We went over New Years and paid $1500 each. A week later and that's half the price. We didn't have that option though.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Not what we expected

This was my third trip to Cuba and this resort has always had a great reputation. I don't expect much when I travel to Cuba, as I understand it's about having a good time and enjoying yourself, regardless of the acclamations. But this was too much. On the flight there, the flight attendant handling our section was so rude and unapproachable that everyone was afraid to ask for anything. When we got to the resort, they asked if it was our honeymoon. It was our anniversary so they said that's nice, [... read more] but we don't do anything for anniversaries. When we got to the room, it smelled musty and was not clean. The bedding and towels had stains on them, the bathroom was filthy and the safe was broken. There was a very loud noise that was shaking the room from a machine outside that continued for hours. I finally asked front desk to be moved and they stated the machine would only run like that from 3 to 10 pm so we would have to deal with it or pay $10-20 CUC per person per night to move. The property is not maintained and is in need of work. I've stayed at lower star resorts that have be taken care of better than this one. The staff are unhappy and rude to guests. The bartenders would refuse to make drinks if they didn't feel like making them. They would laugh at you and roll their eyes if they didn't like your order. I saw them yell at guests on several occasions for things like sitting on chairs in the lobby when they were damp. One threw a chair and cursed in Spanish. At 11 pm, they would shut down the bar and turn of the lights in the lobby, even if there were guests sitting there with drinks. They were not engaging expected tips even thought they were rude. The restaurant staff wasn't any better. On several occasions, servers would ignore tables, stand and talk with each other and neglect their sections, and basically be frustrated by doing their work. We waited 20 minutes for water and when my husband walked up to ask for a server, he came over very angry and took my order. When he returned, he slammed my drink on the table and walked away. I also witnessed staff cutting in front of guests at the buffet and taking huge portions of food for themselves. We only had 2 decent servers the entire week. The maid were horrible at this resort. Several people we met had items stolen. We left money and gifts everyday and they would do the bare minimum. One day, we waited until 4 pm to have our room serviced. I wasn't feeling well and wanted to shower and lay down and need fresh linen. We went to front desk and requested service to which we were given dirty looks. After another hour, we checked our room and the maid had left the clean linen folded on the bed (without making it) and folded our soiled towels and threw them on the ground and bidet. When I went to the maid, she told me she wasn't giving me new towels today. They didn't have new beach towels the entire week. The would have posted times for certain areas to be open and you'd be lucky if a staff member was there to open it. The one positive was the food wasn't terrible. Of all the other resorts I've stayed in Cuba, it had better food. Overall I was disappointed with this property. Rudeness, cleanliness and unwillingness to increase guest morale made this trip a frustrating one.

Hotel Villa Cuba: loved the resort

Food was great.service was great. Much better than the last resort we were at in nov.rooms were just okay but didnt spend much time there anyway. The airplane wasnt very full so actually had rom to stretch.

Hotel Acuazul: terible terrible place

It as a dump. Jusst an old hotel that was faling apart. Dirty. Bugs were inthe food in the dining room which was very dirty. Toulets didnt flush nd no door knobs on inside of room door. How unsafe is that. Showers were just a hose laying inside a rusty rusty tub with mould on the walls. Please do not send anyon here ever.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Beautyful Hotel, clean.

It was the second time we where at this Hotel. It was the same as the second time but I have to say that the bed was terrible, we did reserve a room on the first floor and we got a romm on the third floor, that was not very nice. We had to climb 3 floor envery day and with my condition (Legs problems) it was painfull. We asked why we did not get the first floor, they say that there whas no room available???? The food was OK for Cuba. The hotel is stil clean and the personnel was very nice. As  [... read more]for the plain ride, it was excrutiating, it was a new plain and it was so smale that we could'nt move!!! Even the flight attendant was complaining about this plain behing to small!!! I will never take that plain again because even if we took the prestige Plus they did not tell us that the aisle 15 the banch does' nt bend. I was a bit mad when I can back! But I think that I am trough with cuba. The price this year was to hight for what we got, so next time I will go to Riviera Maya, at least I will get for what I pay even if it's more expensive. Memories Jibacoa: Beautiful resort

this is our 4th time Jibacoa, first time since its changed hands to Memories. Very impressed. Lots more shade pergolas around the pool. Food was fantastic. Can even purchase australian wine now, yay! Love the area and the peace and quiet this resort offers. Staff very friendly and understand english perfectly. Rooms, resort and public washrooms very very clean.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Amazing Staff

The grounds were well kept, the food was good, with enough choice to keep everyone satisfied. The diamond club restaurants were amazing. Japanese and Italian were great. Rooms could be upgraded with newer fixtures and mattresses, but they are trying. Beach is great!

Resonance Blu Varadero: Memories of Memories

Very clean and hospitable, the staff are friendly and courteous, the food was good and plentiful, our room was comfortable and clean, everything was what we expected including the "al a carte" and bar service.

Resonance Blu Varadero: sub par

I was there two years ago and can't believe how it's gone down hill. The rooms were fine .The beds were not .No towels for 3 days ,lost power There are two many complaints to list. So if you want to waste your money feel free.

Hotel Bella Costa: Nice Trip!

This is our 3rd time to Cuba, so we have a wee bit of experience with the island. Travel time was DE29 to JA05 Overall the resort is very nice. Good quick check in, nice lobby bar, elevators that work, staff are fantastic. Nice beach area and the lay out of the resort is really nice. We were a couple, no kids that traveled over the Christmas Break. Pros & Cons Food- Probably some of the consistently better resort food in Cuba. Perhaps its because it was New Years, but they did a pig roast, then  [... read more]the following day had ribs, pulled pork, bbq available by the pool - that was WONDERFUL - thank you so much for that. The next day they did a HUGE pot of paella - I loved that they took the time to do these special dishes for the guests. The pasta and egg stations were very good - they really should have 3 or 4 of them set up as they are high demand. The inside restaurant had wonderful staff, good choice in food and drink. Some food just wouldnt stay warm - heat lamps kinda suck. The meat was mostly overcooked, but from a resort POV, I think they are safer to serve it like that then trying to offer some rare...to much risk. LOVED the fresh orange juice bar - what a STUNNING idea - every resort should have one! There were a few areas that bothered me: a nice decorative piece of fruit beside the lunch meat was COVERED in ants. That kinda killed my appetite...but it was only once that I saw that. The outside eatery was ok. I have never seen that many birds at an outdoor eatery ( and I like them....) but this was a bit much...there were 100's of them flying and unfortunately pooping on everything. It was good that they had the food really covered up and keep separate, but they did have fruit flies trapped in the food areas on some days. HUGE love for the pizza offerings. Again - just excellent!! That lady should have some serious back up and a few more ovens that work. It was a very welcome change and it was very fair quality! good job! Pool- clean, lots of chairs and pool bar staff were excellent. Towels didnt come some days until much later, but we made due. Bathrooms - I really impressed with 2 things - all of the toilet seats and the paper products/soap were always filled and ready to go. That's a first for me. They constantly had staff checking on them. WAY TO GO! :) Rooms: We had the 3rd floor "garden view" that looked over the garbage shack. That was a little disappointing, but the ocean could be seen from our room....and if you were sitting in the patio chairs, you didnt see the shack etc. I loved the size of the patio and we spent some time out there before dinner and in the evening. It was a quiet place away from everyone and was much appreciated. Great sunsets and we even saw a group of parachuter's jumping out of a plane one evening! Cleaning staff were really nice and did a fairly decent job. I would have preferred that they sweep better (sand of course) and that they had sheets that fit the king size bed, but, overall, not bad. If we needed anything extra or replaced, they were happy to provide it. We were able to get a king size bed, it had a fridge and a few good channels for tv. Beach: pretty clean, lots of garbage bins. The slope of the beach is a bit awkward as it leans down a bit much. Chairs were ok to get...we went early, but as the day went on, it was hard to get one. Some people didnt respect other's space and items, but that's not the resorts fault. Glad for life guards and staff on the resort...I saw one gentlemen assist a couple that had a cane and needed chairs, he ran right up to the pool and scooped them a few really nice lounges. Way to be awesome buddy...so nice! We enjoyed the beach very much - and you can walk for quite some time down it so great for exercise. Palapas could be a bit repaired and others could be built down the beach so there are many more for guests. Shops: Nice to have a good choice of items to buy - cigar prices were better than town, staff were knowledgeable about them and they were stored well. Liquor and snacks available, hours of the shops were kept and the staff were great. Loved that they had some cold beer and Santa Carolina wine available :) Items were reasonably priced if you didnt want to hit the markets in Veradero. We didnt use the internet, but massage service wasnt too bad and the price wasnt to bad as well. Lobby Bar: Lots of staff, great choices of drinks - loved that they had live music and champagne available. Some snacks in the rounded alcove were available as well. I really wish they had big ceiling fans or screened windows to promote air circulation inside of the area. It would have been much more pleasant on the hot hot days. Again, staff were really nice and always ready to help. Entertainment: Lots of dancing - For New years, they did random draws and gave gifts away. They provided loot bags for everyone at dinner that had party favours in them...just an extra little something that was quite fun. The champagne flowed and was a great tasting sparkling wine. In spite of me catching a cold, I really enjoyed myself. Lots of dancing and fun. I loved that the resort let the staff have some fun, enjoy some drink as well...It was their New Years too... :) and...in spite of the huge mess everyone made with the confetti, glasses etc, it was cleaned up just about to 100% the next day..they really kept the resort clean. Al a Cart: Japanese - not bad...great service and the food was pretty darn good for Cuba! We love sushi and this was really surprising at how great they did. Again, good wine, decent food and lovely atmosphere. It was a nice break from the buffet. Wish list: Switch to reusable cups at the resort - less waste, less garbage on the beach. Stop with the straws unless requested..they were everywhere :( People are jerks and litter - again, not the resorts fault, but it would help in the long run. Maybe tidy up the beach restaurant of the birds...just a few too many making a mess. I would wish for sheets to fit the bed...but thats about it. Sorry for the huge review, but its probably our last time in Cuba for a long time. The Bella is a pretty darn good resort...glad for our time there!

Resonance Blu Varadero: Not what it used to be

Our favourite resort no longer is. After going to Memories Varadero 6 times, sadly we will not return. We love the staff, with the exception of our maid service who did not clean our bathroom once during the week. The bartenders in the quiet pool are wonderful, as is the staff in the restaurant. In the year and a half since our last visit the resort, especially the rooms have really become run down with no attempt to keep things maintained or repaired. We love Cuba, but not sure which resort we will choose next time.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Tired resort

We had a great stay but the resort is tired and the rooms need some updating, cleaning and painting. We personally didn't have any problems but we heard lots of complaints from other people (no water, no hot water, no maid service, no fresh towels for 3 days) as I said we didn't have any of that trouble our maid service was great and we had hot water the entire trip. I found the hotel too large but the price was right and next time would pick a smaller resort. over all the family had a great trip.
