Sunscape Puerto Plata: Very nice resort and well maintained.

Beautiful, well maintained grounds. Beautiful white sandy beach, great for sunbathing or taking long walks along the water edge. Dining rooms are clean and nice. The staff always polite, friendly and accommodating. Cafe Coco - nice coffe bar. The only thing: bathroom washbasin was slightly clogged and the water was draining very slowly.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Well tailored gardens

Well maintained landscape with careless wait and house keeping staff. Food quality was below our expectations as well the knowledge of waiters. Constantly had to ask maids to give us clean towels and to refill the fridge even though we tipped them every day. Beach was dirty with floating plastic cups. Pools have pealing paints and chipped steps.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Absolute Relaxation

Pro’s: not too big of a resort but spacious enough. All hotel staff incredibly hospitable. Always clean areas. Grounds are nicely maintained. Good variety of food. The young guy who does all the MC’ng at the entertainment and pool is very charming and a great host. Definitely good size beach and activities to do. Good excursions. Some meals better than others. Disco DJ constantly played the same music and it was all over the place with genre’s. Not a good flow. Pools were a great size. Lobby was nice but no “wow” factor. Could use some colour. Wifi only good in lobby but who cares when you are on vacation anyway. All in all we met some great ppl. DO THE CITY TOUR. It was amazing!! We were so relaxed while on the resort and felt welcome by all the staff.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: It was okay!

For a vacation with small children hotel was great on the weekend where locals came in with their families to enjoy the beach/food. During the week it was empty and finding things to do for the kids was difficult. The kids club people tried their best and we really appreciated it. Activities were overpriced and there was nothing on offer for smaller children, but taking an uber and venturing out was easy and safe. Everyone at the resort was friendly and helpful. The VIP lounge concierges  [... read more]were great and gave us some great advice on where to go visit and where to go eat outside of the resort . Food on the resort was reasonable. Not great, limited choices, but not bad either. FYI: Really aggressive timeshare sales peoples wait for you near the breakfast buffet and follow you around until you agree to a meeting.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Gran Ventana, nice but...

This was our 5th and likely last visit to the Gran Ventana. The resort boasts of 'return guest perks' but other than a gold bracelet instead of white we saw none. Our room was basically cleaned daily. Our balcony was only swept once all week meaning the ashtray was only emptied once during our stay. Despite leaving a good tip for house keeping, nothing extra was done (no flowers or towel creations). Food is as expected in the DR. Sadly the beach has eroded quite a bit and with VERY limited [... read more] palapas seems very crowded in the limited shade. Also because of this, and the 'coral reef', swimming space is also very limited. Hubby drinks - found it frustrating to have to insist - no just ask - insist on Brugal for his drinks. The bartenders kept trying to pour him other rums instead and were not very generous with their pouring either. We went with the plan to just relax, do nothing but soak up the sun. So with that, we found the Gran Ventana to be worth the $ we spent to stay.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Paradise

Back from 14 perfect days! So, arrival at airport, the Exchange Center changed our Canadian dollars to Pesos at 34. Upstairs in departures the Exchange Center was 37. The TD bank here was 33. I didn’t have a chance to use the ATM at the plaza mall, did anyone note their exchange rate? Beach- perfect, water is warmer at the Gran Vantana due to the black bottom grassy area. We walked to Elvis restaurant, past the warning sign and guard, a few times. Beautiful desolate natural beach with l [... read more]ocal friendly fishermen using a net in the surf. Beer is $5 a small bottle, it’s where the buggy’s and horses stop when on excursions. Buffet is good after 9:45, no bacon, maybe if you ask. Buffet at lunch always has fresh fish. Make a fish burger with the homemade bread, local tomatoes and cucumbers. Avoid the mayonnaise unless in a packet, so many people, wife included had belly issues after. Supper at buffet hit and miss, international night was spectacular at 6:30, not sure how well the food ages. Coco cafe was our go to for hot water for our licorice tea in the morning and sandwiches for our long hikes, donuts after supper. The pool bartenders are above and beyond and deserve as many tips as you can afford. Our room, building 11, 2nd floor facing the pool was perfect. Hand shower, king bed, new tv with HDMI - USB for playing movies. I brought our android box and connected to a SIMM card from the plaza. FYI when at the plaza and if you mention you are looking for the phone store for a card everyone “claims” they are a dealer and will disappear for a few minutes and return with one. You end up paying extra. We paid $30, it should of been $20 for 10 days. There is only one dealer store and many pretend dealers. Best to go to Jumbo where there is a Claro dealer store by checkout. We walked out to the main road, 1km, and got a guagua. 1990 toyota vans or similar with the door missing. You pay $1USD and they take you into town. Letters A,B,C go past Jumbo then different routes. Letters DEF are outgoing towards the airport. Safe and easy, no stops, just stand and wave when you see the letter in the windshield. Between 11 and 2 is less crowded. Leave $5cnd in the fridge with a note for beer and see what happens! We’ll be back next year.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Resort was amazing

The resort was so nice and the staff was super friendly. Made so many extra accommodations for my kids and our large group. The grounds are extremely well kept and the beach area was very clean. The coco cafe staff was great, always remember our drink orders as soon as we came in. Such an amazing time and trip. Shea was amazingly helpful with the booking and the entire trip made it just perfect.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: So so

I booked the Superior Premium room, but the premium upgrade was not worth it. The room was very small and dated. The premier gets white towels that are supposed to be nice, but every bath and pool towel was stained and had holes. The food was good at the buffet. But terrible service. The a la carte restaurant food was just okay. The premium has drink service at the beach but the server was often busy chatting so I got myself my drinks at the bar. One main good thing; the beach was beautiful.  [... read more]I made the best of it but would not go again. We tipped extremely well in hopes of better service but that didn’t work. It is a 3.5 star at best. Oh one good thing, the mini fridge in the room was stocked daily.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Great value

This hotel was an older one but very well maintained. Original room was not suitable ( too far for aging traveller in our group) supervisor moved us to an excellent location by second day. A/C thermostat broke. Called the front desk, maintenance showed up within 5 minutes at 10:00 pm. Temporarily fixed it for the night which was great, then a different maintenance guy showed up in the morning, changing out the thermometer for a new digital one. Requested a late check out, supervisor allowed us t [... read more]o keep the room until an hour before bus pick up. Greatly appreciated. Food was fantastic and drinks were as expected, not long for waiting and always very friendly staff. Beach was beautiful but public so if you don’t mind public vendors no problem. A la carte was delicious and entertainment was also as expected. Activities were accurate and entertaining. Required medical attention during our stay, hotel staff were so accommodating, drove me and a family member to the clinic ( which was only a building over, unbeknownst to us) received prompt treatment and they sorted out the medical insurance for me and billed them directly. Amazing! Hotel staff came and picked us up afterwards with a round trip being approximately 1 1/2 hours. Better than a trip to emergency anywhere in Canada. I would definitely return to this hotel. Many guests were returning, some for 16 years+. If you are looking for good value, this hotel has it, thanks for making our vacation a trip we want to remember!

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Not as expected

This resort was definitely not what we expected. It says 4/5 star resort but its actually more like 2.5/3. Its almost like a retirement resort with the amount of elderly guests. This isnt a place for young couples/ adults who want a more lively atmosphere. The food was not great and its surprising how minimal the selection was. The rooms were lackluster, very dated and could use some touch ups. There was constantly sales people walking around the resort trying to sell you vacation packages, whic [... read more]h became pushy and annoying. In the evening there was no where to lounge and have drinks. We’ve never seen such poor entertainment… Some nights we found ourselves going to bed early because of nothing to do. The only good thing about this resort was the beautiful location and views of the mountains in the distance.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Great Resort and Amazing Staff!

We went as a group of 10 friends during the week of April 16 2023 and had an amazing time. We upgraded to the SunClub and it was worth it. The check in process was quick and easy, the rooms were clean, the beach was absolutely beautiful. And since it was in a bay, you could swim in the mornings no problem without big waves. The staff was super polite, friendly, and always helpful. Not the biggest resort but it turned out to be better because everything was close by.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Great Resort

It’s a beautiful resort, lovely landscaping, friendly staff - chocolate & vanilla taught me archery skills and I won 3 tournaments in a row, it was a great feeling, enjoyed every minute of my time at this resort. Food was amazing, the housekeeping staff was so nice and friendly too! The only thing i would suggest for the resort to take note of is updating the rooms, especially the bathrooms as they were dated for a 4 star resort. Sunscape Puerto Plata: We had a great vacation!

The trip was seamless from beginning to end. The Staff were incredible: attentive, welcoming and fun. The entire resort was very clean, rooms were spotless and all common areas were cleaned regularly.

Casa Marina Sosua Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: Cheap and cheery

I Enjoyed my stay and amenities rooms were clean and simple. Close to everything for people who struggle with mobility (smaller resort) .Food services were excellent including pasta bar fresh by request. Large and small pools a little hideaway for everyone.great location for local adventures to Sousa Beach.(safe during day) Beach is rocky by location and steep is only concern for lower rating. I would definitely return. Stayed floor oceanfront.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Amazing experience

The resort is beautiful and the grounds are very well kept. Staff is amazing and very helpful. The food is excellent and has a great selection for everyone. I must say the beach barbecues were excellent. Our room was fine and we had hot water all the time. The showers in the older rooms are hand held and they do splash wayer on the floor but we just put a towel on the floor no big deal. Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Mixed feeling about this resort

Nice small resort but it is extremely crowded all the times. Maybe because of its contemporary looks at the front desk which attracting tourists. People occupied lounge chairs at the pools & at the beach as early as 7am and virtually you can't get any spots at anytime. Food is good and lots of varieties to choose from and there were always something new at buffet during our 7 day trip. Waiters & waitresses are friendly. The weakest link is the fresh juices which were provided only in the morning [... read more] but running out quite easily. You can try Japanese & Steakhouse À la carte but not Italian as food were not much different from the buffet. My room was clean but the very last day the a/c was out of order & we needed to switch to another room (just lucky enough the front desk found one). How they clean the room is kind of complicated. Around 10am the housekeeper collects the used towels. Then at some other time he/she cleans the room. Then some other staffs will fill up the fridge with bottle waters & pops. Finally the housekeeper returns the clean towels around 5pm. I think it's better if everything is done at the same time. The outdoor theatre was nice and shows were good. A bonus is a nice trial on the hill side which you can see the cruise ships docking and leaving from AmberCove. It took one and half hour to the airport as we went through lots of traffic jam (rush hour) in Puerto Plata and some detours. We tipped the coach driver because he needed to drive through a manual coach bus with some difficult terrains. However, I'll choose another resort 20 minutes from POP for my next trip.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: So So

The resort was passable. However we found it dated. The room was adequate. The food was limited. E.G. they ran out of bacon and eggs every morning. They had to constantly have to be asked to bring plates, silverware, and glasses for juices. I twisted my knee on the 3rd day and ended up using a broom handle as a walking aid as they didn't have crutches, canes or wheel chairs. Never had beef for the 1st 4 days. The water in room was lukewarm at best

Select Sosua Adults Only, Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: Fantastic resort

The select area is amazing . Rooms and grounds are so well kept .We can not say enough about our experience there. Although we have been there quite a few times it keeps getting better 👍👍Quan and Francis were so attentive to all the guests (above and beyond amazing )and the staff at the Hermans. ( the great select restaurant ) could not have been more fun and professional. Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Never returning

The experience we encountered, was to say the least one of the worst I have ever experienced. The first day our room did not have any towels whatsoever in it when I called and asked for towels, they examined me as if I was a towel thief. When I finally got towels the next day, when the do not disturb sign was on my door, they decided they were going to clean my room anyway and took my towels once again. I had a dinner reservation for 6 o’clock. call them at 4 o’clock to tell them I had no to [... read more]wels and after four calls to the front desk. I decided to walk up my self and inquire in person upon being very agitated. He told me my towels were at my room, as I was walking back to my room from getting major attitude from the front desk, literally telling me if I didn’t like what I was experiencing to go and complain to customer relations . On my way back to the room I seen the lady walking with my towels. I took them from her and went back to my room alreadyOne hour late for my dinner reservations . The next day I let them clean my room and once again, they took my towels and did not replace them. I was assuming that they wanted to gain some extra revenue by charging me for towels, but I went and took some out of the dirty laundry, just to alleviate this, and they took them again without returning them. Once I can see it as a mistake, twice is poor workmanship, three times it’s just not called for. The lower pool beside the 500 building was totally disgusting. There was so much dirt floating on top bird feces was disgusting, the pool up by the main desk was missing approximately 14 inches of water until all of the locals came in for the Saturday and Sunday. Then they installed water. Monday some reason there must be a leak in the pool it was back down a foot of water . When the locals arrived, the foreigners did not receive any attention from the upper bar or the bar by the beach. We had one our friends sick in bed for 3 1/2 days could not move and we weren’t allowed to bring him any food. Nobody said there was any room service available when asked, lucky for one of the restaurants to let us take some pizza back for him on the third day. All in all the weather was great the beer was cold and the beach was nice. I personally will never use Translate again, but I will use trip Central as Sandra is an amazing contact, she made us feel absolutely taken care of!

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Nature’s Paradise

A beautiful, clean, well maintained resort. The Staff are Super friendly! As a nature lover it was amazing each morning to wake up to a symphony of birds singing. The Mangrove inlet with the birds, turtles and fish was a different scene each day. The beach is great for early morning hiking. Loved it!
