Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: 1st time to Cuba and this resort was hands down AMAZING!!!!!!

We travel yearly all over and decided to give Cuba a chance. This resort was simply amazing! From the beautiful beach and pool areas, to the spacious rooms, delicious food and the friendliest people around! We did not do Diamond Club and we're unlikely to pay that much extra for it as it didn't seem worth it. Regardless of room category, everyone gets assigned 2 butlers during their stay. Always going above and beyond to find us to make sure everything was ok. The food at this resort was fantastic and the service even better. The buffet had lots of options, you also have the option of grabbing a bite at the 24hr Bistro or lunch at the snack bar by the pool which serves delicious Cuban sandwiches, ham and cheese sandwiches, hamburgers, hotdogs and pulled chicken sandwiches....all accompanied with a huge assortment of fixings! The 4 a la carte restaurants were great, I had the best steak at the seafood restaurant then I've ever had back home! There are no reservations for a la carte's so we found going for dinner by 7 was your best chance at getting a table without having to wait. If you do have to wait, you are given a beeper which works throughout the resort so really not a problem as you can go grab a drink and socialize until your table is ready :) Roberto in the Jazz bar was amazing! So attentive, never ever were we waiting and our drinks were always topped up! Oh and the Sangria's he makes are delicious! He will be our friend for life! Service in the lobby bar (which is 24hrs) was hit and miss at any time of day. It's a great place to get a special coffee but when the sevice is poor it makes it frustrating, especially when it was rarely that busy. This really is the only area that needs improvement with service! Pool service was fantastic! Jani and Ari were always coming by to make sure our drinks were full, and always with a nice greeting and big smiles :) We didn't spend a lot of time lounging at the beach but when we did service was good as well. The people that made our stay fun, enjoyable and wanting to return were Anita (butler), Roberto (Jazz bar), Dayana, Yani, Yare (day and night maids), Alberto, Reglita, Jeni (Buffet restaurant), Jani, Ari (pool bar service) They truly work so hard to make sure you are happy and we definitely rewarded them with tips and gifts! Cubans are very grateful and appreciate anything given to them! The only difference Cuba is to other countries is that when you tip at the bars or restaurants, they don't keep them to themselves, they have to share. So service seems to be equal regardless if you tip or not. But don't be cheap! These people work extremely hard and deserve to be rewarded! This resort was much quieter then I was expecting which was nice as I wasn't really looking forward to a lot of loud partying guests. We are in our mid 40's, most guests were 50+. The benefit of this was that there was always a pool or beach lounger to be found at any time of day and there was very rarely anyone in the pool. Bonus for us! All in all, this resort was fantastic and we will definitely return! We don't have much to compare to in regards to other resorts in Cuba, but we did hear some horror stories from guest's staying at other resorts in regards to running out of wine, vodka, butter etc. This was never ever an issue at The Royalton! If you are looking for a loud partying resort, this is not the resort for you. It is much more laid back (entertainment staff do try to get guests involved but didn't seem to work probably based on the age of guests) However, maybe this was just a one off and could possibly be a younger crowd the next time we go. In my opinion, if you want a great resort, only choose one that is 5* in Cuba as their standards are much different then Mexico or DR. Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Wonderful Resort

When we arrived we were upgraded to Diamond club. Wonderful clean rooms, food was beyond what we expected and the pools were all wonderful. Definitely would recommend this resort. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Royalton Antigua Resort and Spa: Very nice resort

Overall it was very nice. We stayed at the Royalton in St.Lucia and Jamaica previous years and we liked them better than this one. While Antigua was very nice it wasn't at the same standard as the others. The room was not as nice, no big shower or Jacuzzi in the room like the other Royaltons but still nice. This was also the first time in 13 years of going to the Caribean for our anniversary that there was no acknowledgement of any kind. Also missed not having the Japanese restaurant. The food was excellent but we were looking forward to a teppanyaki meal. Beach was beautiful and always had lounge chairs available. This is still a great resort but not quite to the standard of the others we've been to.

Royalton Hideaway Riviera Cancun: No place to Hideaway!

This is a huge and very busy resort. There is always something going on and the pool area is very noisy. The Children's area was actually more to our liking because the adult party crowd was quite loud to be around. The beach area is more quiet, but some days too windy to sit there. The pool areas are so busy that we often could not find a place to sit. Our rooms faced the mangrove marsh and we could not use the balcony because of the strong sulphur smell. We were able to move my elderly pa [... read more]rents to a pool side room so that they could sit outside. This was much better for them, but still very noisy because of the pool activities. They didn't mind, found it entertaining. At least our mangrove facing room was quiet. We just couldn't use the balcony and so had to seek out common areas to be outside. The beach has a lot of seaweed which did not bother me as much as the plastic items that are washed up on the shore. So depressing. The resort is trying its best to reduce the use of plastic which is encouraging, but clearly the world plastic problem is affecting all shore lines around the world. The staff in this resort are the best I have ever encountered. Friendly, helpful, and genuinely caring about making your stay the best. The gym facilities are amazing and we enjoyed the group classes. The teachers are well trained and lovely people. The food was excellent overall. Again, it was very busy and so it required some wait time to get into restaurants. The rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable and the sheets and pillows were of good quality. The wifi was reliable through out the resort. The Pools were nicely maintained and the staff did a wipe down of all beach chairs every evening. This resort is super clean. If you're looking for a party, then this place is great. We were looking for a little more quiet and so would not recommend. Perhaps we were mislead by the "Hideaway" in the name. Incorporating some areas of quiet, sorting out the mangrove smell problem and cleaning up the beach would change my recommendation.

The resort is in the midst of great renovations and will be amazing once finished However that did not effect our holiday at all The resort has a great layout , everything I reach Butlers were amazing especially Illiana Felix a waiter in the buffet went out of his way to ensure mealtimes we enjoyable Great holiday ! Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Wonderful Time at the Royalton

Stayed at the Royalton Feb 5-12/2020 with husband and two children under 4. Resort was well kept and cared for. Staff were very kind and helpful. Check in was a breeze. Beach unfortunately had seaweed which is expected at this time but kids still enjoyed the sand. Splash park for kids is huge. Pools are amazing. Food was okay - nothing too special but lots to choose from at buffet. Loved the ZEN restaurant - Miguel was a wonderful cook. Hunters steak house was delicious as well. Royalton Cayo Santa Maria: Cuba at its Finest!

We spent a glorious week at The Royalton in Cayo Santa Maria. This is an all adult boutique resort with the best beach we have seen. The sand is like icing sugar, and you can walk for miles. Our room was very spacious and clean. The grounds were like a tropical paradise with lots of vegetation and all of the buildings were within a reasonable walking distance. There were 2 pools to enjoy and lots of chairs available at each location. There was plenty to eat at the a la carte restaurants.  [... read more]However, there is NO buffet. We had access to 2 nearby resorts, so there was lots of food choices. We had an amazing butler named Noelvis, who treated us royally. Shout out to Liz in Eggsellence restaurant for her excellent service. It was an amazing vacation and we would recommend this resort to adults wishing a quiet, relaxing holiday. We will be back!

Royalton Hideaway Blue Waters: Beautiful Resort

I was there first week of Feburary 2020 Hotel room, sheet/towels were very clean, staff is very nice, food is delicious, beach and pool area is amazing - well kept. My only problem was the closet door in my room was not sliding back and forward - need some one to fix the track - I have mentioned to the front desk every morning and no one came to fix it. Hopefully it is fixed by now.

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Great resort

Clean hotel, amazing food and service. Beach was fabulous with lots of choices of beds with excellent butler service. So many pools to choose from but want to get there early for a lounge chair. Excellent butler service!

Royalton Bavaro Resort and Spa: Royalton Bavaro, Dominican Republic

Had a problem with check-in. Was supposed to check in at 3 p.m. Room wasn't ready until 4 p.m. Offered me late checkout but I was leaving after breakfast for a pickup back to Toronto. Service at Steakhouse first night was terrible. My order was taken but never say the waiter again after waiting 45 minutes and then asked to speak to Manager. My table was avoided as I was a single female. Also, at the bars, if it was between a male or female customer, the bartender would take order from male [... read more] first. Service was terrible. Good was good. Activites terrible. Would never go back to Royalton.

Royalton Bavaro Resort and Spa: Good resort for families

The hotel was ok, I would upgrade next time I stayed for more space with two kids. I was happy to have block 19 which was close to the pools and the beach. However it was far from the lobby. Food was ok, nothing too amazing. I have been home for two days and the first day home I got sick. Not sure if it was the food I ate or something I picked up from the airport. Over all I would rebook at this resort but upgrade my room.

Royalton Cayo Santa Maria: Beautiful resort, beach and people!

We stayed at this resort January 31- February 7. We were greeted by our butler with our envelope for our room. Although I requested a second floor, we were given a first floor in Bungalow 5. It was a central location with accessibility to the lower pool, the Sunset restaurant for breakfast and lunch and path to the beach. The room, however was in need of repair and the pillows and bedcovers were dirty. We requested a room on a second floor and were upgraded to an ocean front room. Beautiful room, but the A.C. did not work and the shower head leaked. Both were fixed in 1-2 days. We were in Bungalow 6. Our butler, Diago was wonderful and was very attentive and went over and above with extras for us! Food was o.k. There are 3 restaurants and received our reservations on the first day from our butler. We enjoyed the Eggscellence restaurant for supper, breakfast was just o.k., preferred The Sunset, better coffee and ordered from the menu and was close by to our bungalow. Senses was the other restaurant for dinner. Be aware of the lobster, heavy and could cause upset stomachs, whereas the surf and turf dinner at The Sunset was wonderful! The grill by the beach is great for lunch. A server will bring you a quesadilla of your choice, chicken, shrimp or beef. Yummy! The drinks are good. We received a bottle of wine from our butler and it was nice to have in the room for a drink before dinner or to take with us to the lobby. The house wine, white, a Pino Grigio and the red are quite nice. The public washrooms are very clean and the ladies who look after them are always smiling and singing! The entertainment is enjoyable and varied. Wonderful dancing, singing and instrumental music. We even heard a trio who played for President Obama! The people who work at this resort are the real plus for this resort. They are so kind and accommodating and we can understand why so people return year after year. The beach and the water are also major pluses. WOW!!! Absolutely amazing! It is recommended to go down early, 8 or 8:30 a.m. to get beach chairs under a palapa. Leave your beach towels, that are in your room upon arrival and maybe a book or sunscreen, The beach attendant will get you the chairs, brush them off and just give him a one CUC. Go for breakfast and you are good for the day! The beds by the pool look nice, but are not all that comfortable. The upper pool by the lobby is the quiet pool, and the lower pool is where all the action is! Fashion shows, water aquatics and dance lessons. Oh, yes, the bank is right next door in the plaza, open Monday to Friday. We got 38 CUCS for $50 CA. We tipped with $5 CA upon arrival until we got to the bank on Monday. The flight was great there and back from Hamilton. The bus ride was 90 minutes and with cold Cuban beer and a wonderful guide, we were there in no time! A wonderful week with many adventures and friendships to last a lifetime!

Resort was amazing. Very clean and a dream come true. Food at the buffet was always excellent and staff was so accommodating and friendly. Beach was amazing!! I can’t even describe how amazing it was.

We had a great week. The resort was beautiful. The staff was wonderful and very attentive. Our room was nice and clean. Entertainment was good. But a bit loud (our room was close to the main building).

Just got back from Royalton Hicacos Varadero Cuba The Diamond Club has changed their perks so we were very disappointed!Beach area for Diamond Club had no bathroom .This was totally unacceptable as we had some with mobility issues within our group of 10 We had to move up the beach to the non Diamond area! Ask for top shelf liquor (by name )when ordering drinks We however witnessed bartenders putting cheaper brands of Liquor in top shelf bottles.We asked for Crown Royal rye and kept getting a scotch type drink ,was disgusting.We finally asked to see a unopened CR bottle sealed bottle and we actually opened the bottle.I think they finally got the hint we knew our rye .lol We did drink the different drinks but CR is our drink in the evening !Their beer is good but light tasting . All the ala carte restaurants we good but if you like to eat early you have to get to them before 6:30 or you might have to wait till 8:00 or later ,They do give you a buzzer which is a very good idea Best beef steak we have south in a long time (in the ala carte) We did not eat in the The Caribbean restaurant (Tuesday were reserved for honeymooners and returning quests) One buffet and was good ,Fruit was poor but we know Cuba is not known for its fresh fruit .Every night the buffet has a different theme of food Beach was the best we have been at !Very long and great walking beach Pools were pristine clean,cool but refreshing. Royalton CHIC Cancun: So proud to love this Canadian resort!

We would go back in a minute! Perhaps it’s best to first introduce the reviewer. We are in our 70's, a Canadian couple who did wilderness canoeing and camping for years- and then sought out southern sun and surf in Cuba. For me, this was my first real trip to Mexico- and I insisted that we try TripCentral.ca for booking. What a joy- intelligent and consistent follow-up, a variety of travel packages to choose from, and extra help in every aspect of the trip. The Royalton chain, we were happy [... read more] to learn, is part of the Sunwing family company- and attempt to provide extra luxury at a worthwhile price. The Cancan Suites are barely a year old- but the expertise of staff and excellence of design make the place feel well established. We did not use the Diamond Club extras except for one day- but being without that upgrade does not reduce the courtesy and attentiveness of the staff. Our junior suite on the 12th floor overlooked the ocean, had a balcony for sunset drinks and wet scuba equipment, an enormous shower with two different spray systems, a separate toilet area, two sinks, and amazing comforts throughout. (The only extra I avoided was the weight scale under the counter) And the excellent food services made weight gain the last thing on my mind. The buffet area that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner is exceptional. There's a kids' corner with their favourites, always a fresh juice and smoothie bar, a fish area with ceviche of all kinds, two hot grills with meats and fish or shellfish, a proudly Mexican section, and even a gluten-free area. The crepe-maker (who also handles gelatos and pastries) was my favourite, especially when my husband had them fill mine with chocolate and warm peanut butter. The specialty restaurants are all good as well- Agave the sophisticated Central American foods, the steak house, and the Jade Asian fusion place (no one tossing shrimps into the air and dousing them with soy sauce) Fruits, myriad salads- all fresh, scrupulously clean, and safe to eat. The hotel is a high-rise with 1 rooftop pool and deluxe bar area. To be honest- the available pool arras on the ground levels are a little small- as is the availability of beach chairs in high season. However, beach towels are big, warm, and plentiful- with no tickets or threats for returning. The beach itself is sugary, clean, and free of seaweed - no problems setting up a towel, building a sand pillow below it, and enjoying the sunshine. And I can vouch for the attentiveness of the lifeguards, Carelessly, this old lady got caught up in some deep ocean current and needed to be brought into shore by a smiling, calm lifeguard delivered by jet ski. I will be forever grateful- for the rescue and the kindness of the staff at every level. The bartenders were generous, the service double what I have experienced in personpower and courtesy-- and even the little shops in the lobby well stocked with attractive and well-priced items. My husband found the location ideal for his scuba trips- especially when the entry concierges made sure this taxi prices were understood and shared- and I found plenty to do with books and the free internet all over the property. I recommend a morning espresso from the coffee bar and a gelato on the patio every morning. I have a 75th birthday coming up. Already thinking of returning to celebrate with staff that became friends.

Royalton Hideaway Blue Waters: this was a disappointing resort, much below our expectations

grounds- good public areas -good rooms - crowded, no chairs, .tiny, poor balcony views - in a word. unacceptable dining - good beach - very dirty. plastic all over. an eco disaster pools - floating debris, pumps not working, unsafe to go in, ruined our time furniture - unsuitable for a resort, very uncomfortable

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: Amazing Resort

Everything is amazing...staff, rooms, pools, food, beautiful ocean for walking, private tour to Havana, double decker bus ride to Varadero, no need to reserve chairs at beach or ocean. I definetely would recommend this hotel and hopefully I can return. Travelled with family and they enjoyed it LOTS too

Overall a very nice resort. Very clean and well kept. Grounds were beautiful. The beach is absolutely amazing, with shallow clear, warm water. Staff was very professional and friendly. Food was excellent, best so far for our five trips to Cuba.

Royalton Bavaro Resort and Spa: Top Family Friendly resort

Absolutely stunning resort. Staff were all wonderful and trustworthy and somehow remembered everyone’s names. The kids were so impressed. So much to do. So much variety. Food at the buffet was so good that we never felt the need to do the a la carte. We did end up trying Hunters - we ended up waiting 1.5 hrs to accommodate 16 ppl. That was a big downer for us since we had 8 hungry and tired children. Food was mediocre. Score bar food was meh. We also tried Zen which was great but we’ve been [... read more] to better tepanyaki places. No fire shows. Food was decent. Gym is the best gym I’ve been to in a AI. Enough free activities by the beach. Beach was superb. Will definitely be coming back.
