Memories Jibacoa: Beautiful resort!

We found the resort to exceed expectations after reading many reviews. The food is better than anticipated and Alberto, the tennis pro, is outstanding ... took two lessons while visiting. The current manager is doing much to make the resort, food, etc better. Also close to Havana for a long day visit as it again is becoming a go to world tourist city.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Okay-Not Great

This resort could be good but it isn't. The room was always clean and the maid did a good job but the bathroom had a broken shower head that my husband had to tie wrap to keep in place. The towel holder fell off the wall when we tried to hang up the towel. The toilet didn't flush properly. The patio door didn't lock and was very hard to slide open. Easy fixes if they spent the time. Many of the bathrooms throughout the resort were out of service. The lighting through out the resort was poor at b [... read more]est making it hard to see in the evening. The walking paths were shared with the carts going back and forth throughout the resort. A rocky path was put along side that you had to step over to get out of their way. At one point in the evening because it was so dark when a cart came upon us shining its lights and I was trying to get out of their way I tripped on the rocks and fell bruising my left hip arm and spraining my hand. If the large rocks were replaced with gravel or just removed this wouldn't have happened. The main buffet had renovations going on next door making it smell to paint and was noisy. Luckily we had upgraded to the Diamond club so we had a separate room to sit and eat. The food had very little variety and was stone cold at times. When I had the waitress make me an omelet it was raw in the middle. The desserts were so, so. not great. The a-la-carte restaurants were okay but nothing special. We went to three and the only good one was the Japanese. This resort is huge. It took 20 minutes to go from the beach to the lobby. Fresh beach towels were rarely available. The evening entertainment was all in Spanish making it hard to understand. The only good entertainment we saw was in the middle of the day at one of the pools. The manager came around at one point on our last day to ask how things were and as soon as we had anything negative to say he walked away and didn't want to hear it. The pools were beautiful but were only 4ft deep, they didn't have a deep end. On a positive note. The pools were clean, the beach was beautiful. The staff was friendly and you didn't feel you had to tip to get service. We have been to several places - Jamaica, Mexico, Dominican Republic and Cuba once before. All were 4 star resorts and with the exception of the food being poor in Cuba the last time as well. All the places have lived up to their star rating. This one definitely didn't and I really don't understand how it got a 4 star rating. Sunwing was really off the mark on this one. However Sunwing did a good job with the flight and we were very happy with that.

Melia Marina Varadero: Beautiful resort

The resort was beautiful. The apartments are a bit far from the beach but had its own little pool and bar which was nice. We had ants in room but a beautiful marina view. Food was bland as to be expected. We felt bad for the people of Cuba and wish we brought more gifts like medicine, toiletries, baby items.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Great Vacation

Just returned from a fantastic vacation. Would definitely recommend this resort. The staff are very friendly and helpful. A special thanks to Midiala & Fernando! Beach is beautiful - rooms clean - plenty available on the buffet & the Italian & Spanish restaurants delicious!!

Playa Caleta: Great staff & beach

Overall quite clean and spacious. Some problems with roof leaking and elevators very slow or not working. Good choice of food at the buffet. Specialty dining rooms not great. Grounds were kept in good repair. Overall appearance of building was needing repair.

Hotel Los Cactus: Awesome beach and wonderful staff

Resort was well laid out and clean and only 30 minutes from the airport. Staff were wonderful - making friends quickly and easily. The beach was terrific and never had any issues obtaining a lounger there. Water was so warm and we swam every day. Downside, food was unappetizing so take spices and snacks with you. Also we had no hot water last 3 days. The staff did record our complaint and tried to rectify. However, it was still cold. Upside, they offered to move us to another room but we only ha [... read more]d 1 day left so decided it was easier to stay where we were and showered at a friends room.

Starfish Jibacoa: Disappointing!

We just returned from a 13 night stay at Villas Jibacoa. The resort grounds are beautiful and well kept. We stayed in a bungalow facing the ocean and it was lovely. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't very good, as a "cold front" came in just after we arrived. As a result, we weren't able to enjoy the beach and experience the reef, as the water was too rough most of our time there. Our biggest disappointment was the food at the resort. We have been to Cuba many times and our expectations weren't t [... read more]oo high, but the buffet selection was the worst we have ever experienced at a resort in Cuba! Very limited selection of fruit, fresh fish and seafood. Our one trip to the specialty Cuban restaurant also a disappointment, as they were "out of" shrimp cocktail, fresh fish filet, and cheesecake, all of which were our choices from the menu! The main positive of this resort is the staff at the pool and the lobby bar. Unfortunately, we would not return to this resort based on our experience this trip.

Hotel Acuazul: VERY GOOD

MY HUSBAND ,MOM, SISTER AND I STAY FOR THE FIRST TIME AT THIS HOTEL,WE HAD A GREAT TIME ,ROOM WERE CLEAN,FOOD WAS GOOD BASE ON WHAT WE PAY ,SERVICE WAS GREAT EVERYONE WAS VERY FRIENDLY WE WILL GO BACK FOR SURE.

Sol Palmeras: Up to reputation

Sol Palmeras lives up to its 4 star reputation. The staff is very accommodating and friendly, the bungalow I was assigned to was clean, very comfortable and allowed for an escape to a completely quiet zone when necessary. Great value for the money invested!

Playa Caleta: Nice resort with a Very welcoming as warmth people

I liked the hotel it was big enough to move around comfortably, very clean and well organized I had enjoyed de pool area so as the shows, a beautiful beach, and concern from the hotel creu towards we the visitors it fulfilled my expectations

Club Kawama: The best staff

I thought this was a great resort the staff were excellent and very helpful from the front desk the bartenders to security very nice rooms and very central to downtown l would recommend this to others

Muthu Playa Varadero: Beautiful beach!

Had a great stay! One of the best beaches along the strip! Great staff.. Always smiling! Makes your stay that much more enjoyable! Need to upgrade their bathroom facilities. Clean rooms and nice grounds. Food is typical. Love the chicken fillets!

Sol Varadero Beach: Good place falling apart

Beach, location is good. The buildings are in the state of dilapidation. A piece of concrete fell from the balcony ceiling missing me by 10 sec. Shower hardly worked. Food was diverse enough, though often too salty. Service people were very good.

Sol Palmeras: A very satisfying experience at Sol Palmeras

The hotel is very clean and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. The food was very good and the variety is excellent. The beach is amazing as well the pool. The resort is very clean and I would recommend to my friends and family.

Melia Marina Varadero: Not impressed

This hotel was a bit tired and the rooms were in need of updates. The stairs down to the pool were very dark and the chandelier needed to be replaced. This resort is not in the beach. The chairs in the main lounge were so heavy you needed two people to move them.

Resonance Blu Varadero: bad resort

phone not working in room. no fresh towels all week even though we paid extra for diamond club, no hot water in both rooms(changed rooms once),toilets in both rooms would not flush. paid for upgrade included stocked mini fridge daily, they only put 2 beers and 2 pops in it daily,safe was locked asked for someone to come unlock it twice but no none came.had to use flashlight at night on walkways as lots of lights not working.air conditioner kept popping breaker.

Grand Memories Varadero: Good resort for Cuba

This is a nice resort for Cuba. But the Sanctuary is not as quiet a place as led to believe from the name. If you like to party and smoke there is an excellent club to go to in the evenings. But there is no where to go if you want to have a quiet smoke free evening.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Different resort

It looks like a plantation The rooms are pretty nice. The service is good as long as you tip. The food is pretty good but always the same no variety. They have a nice pool with lots of activities & chairs. The beach is nice. Unfortunately we had terrible weather so that was a downer & the power kept going out.Also a lot of us got bug bites (very itchy) but I'm sure if you have good weather it would be a beautiful vacation.

Melia Marina Varadero: The level of this resort should not be a 5 Star

The staff were great and very helpful for the most part and the exception was the front desk personnel - very standoffish and not too helpful at times. The food was good and what one would expect. However, our room was not too clean and we had to be moved because of infestation of Bugs!!! Not commenting on the kind they were.

Starfish Jibacoa: Beautiful Grounds

The grounds of Villas Jibacoa are definitely beautiful and very well kept. Though many of the trees are dormant in December, it has a fantastic variety of such. In summer, when the flowers are in bloom, I'm sure it's very beautiful. The equally beautiful beach is really not so great for swimming as there is too much rock and coral, but the snorkeling is fantastic. Just swim out anywhere from the beach and you can't miss the incredible assortment of fish. In the lobby, they have a binder with pictures of the sea life to be found. I enjoyed snorkeling and trying to spot them all. The bungalows are quite nice. The one I was in was located across from the pool and had an ocean view. It was clean and in good repair. One of the double beds was too hard. The other, less so. The pillows were skimpy. The water pressure was great. So, no issues really, but some guests thought the rooms in the building were better and switched the second day. This hotel is well located. In addition to hiking opportunities around and up the hill, there are other things to do. There were six of us that took a cab to Bacunayagua bridge, Bellamar caves, Ermita de Monserrate and Park Libertade in Matanzas. So, adventurous opportunities abound as there are great sights nearby. Havana is also just an hour away. Food was just OK and I didn't go hungry. Egg omelette in the morning with pancakes is fine for me. Dinner had a reasonable assortment of rice, pasta, fish and meat. I avoid raw foods in Cuba, but there were salad offerings for those who were interested. I stuck with the cooked stuff like squash. I ate lunch at the pool where they served hamburgers and pizza and fries. Not bad. Coffees and drinks at the lobby or pool bar were great. I would go again.
