Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Great for kids - but resort tries to take advantag

We were there in Februrary - I have 4 kids -they loved it. Friendly staff, great pools and slides. The hotel tried to overcharge us when my husband, who was in a car accident, couldn't come with us the last minute. They wanted to charge us an extra $5000 for the exact same room we reserved 10 months ago if he did not come (even if all 5 of us in the rest of the family still came as planned) , or if another person came in his place. This is the one reason I will not return to this resort. They tr [... read more]ied to do the same with my mom. It took a real fight. I cancelled the family room altogether, and had to rebook my holiday through a last minute tour operator. This resort tries to take advantage of travelers. We booked almost a year in advance, and wanted the same room - with the same number of travellers in my family - but because ONE person's name changed (meaning my husband could not come, so my nanny came instead) they said I can only have MY room if I paid an additional $5000. Insane. No thank you. Brutal management. Too bad, as it would otherwise be a nice resort. Oh, and 10 people, of 20 got sick - throwing up and diarrhea.

Barcelo Maya Caribe: Beautiful resort.

Lovely grounds, maid service was great especially Alma, rooms clean, beach and pool area was great. Always found something to eat.food could have been a lot warmer.lots of activity around pool area all day. Very enjoyable.

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Parents beware

The first night I was there l sat outside waiting for my two grandsons to go to sleep, I got bitten with hundreds of mosquito bites. I looked like I had some dread disease on my legs for the entire trip. DO not let them give you a room on the first floor facing the mangrove Swamp. Also, there was a huge building close by that is LOUD LOUD LOUD and smells of diesel. I complained about all of this twice to the main desk. Needless to say that ruined their trip as he was crying from the pain. We travel as a family group. Myself, my daughters and their families. What effects one effects all of us. Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Good Quality for the Price

There is alot of walking at this resort. There were shuttles but they were hard find. The buffet was pretty good food and a good selection. The resort was clean. The staff was fabulous. There were alot of people there but it didn't feel crowded and we could always find a chaise at the beach or pool. Our only complaints were that we couldn't get into any a la carte restaurants until 9pm and that was a little late. Also, the bed was not so comfortable. We otherwise had a good time there.

Playacar Palace: The Best

After dozens of years travelling, Playacar Palace has proven to be the best hotel experience my wife and I have encountered. From the room service, to the beach/ pool servers, to the restaurant(s) staff, the grounds and food/ dining our time here was tops!

Bel Air Collection Xpu-Ha Riviera Maya: Bel Air

We had a wonderful time at the Bel Air. It is very quiet and perfect for R&R My only recommendation is to have a ATM on site. It is also a wonderful place ot bring children with all the wildlife for them to observe and experience.

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Sandos Caracol Eco Resort

Very good Family oriented resort. Lots of things to do on the resort. Did not get Queen size beds as booked and paid for. Rooms are a little musty. Beds were on the hard side as were the pillows. Food was very good.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: will think twice before going back

Was very disappointed in our stay this time,have been there before and really enjoy ourselves. Options plus was awesome. Always had to ask for washcloths and lotion. Plug in bathroom didn't work,either did phone. Asked for wake up call and baggage to be picked up the morning we were leaving and husband who is in his late 70's had to carry our luggage down 3 flights of stairs,then we dragged the luggage down the road until we found someone to help us. Good thing I was up early or we would have mi [... read more]ssed our bus back to airport,had to be in lobby at 6:45am not impressed at all.

Riu Palace Mexico: Enjoyable holiday

Pool water (too) cold; WIFI at pool (and at times elsewhere) usually not available. Other members of party were taken 2-hours out of their way because driver went to wrong hotel, but these are relatively minor inconveniences to a nice vacation.

Platinum Yucatan Princess: Great resort

Hotel was great , one little complaint , stairs should have railings on both sides , my wife slipped on the tiled stairs coming down with no railing to hold onto. She twisted her ankle, xrays show a slight crack further investigations are in place.

Grand Riviera Princess: Beyond Expectations!!!

The hotel is grand, palace-like. It us modern, tropical and very well kept. The staff go above and beyond! The food was great! The beautifully appointed buffets had different themes every night. We even had plates of lobster tail on seafood night. There is always an enormous food sene toon to satisfy every person. I can't say enough great things!!!! Our room was fresh and clean. The housekeeping staff created towels folded into animals for my kids every day. Unbelievable!

Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya: Beautiful and amazing resort

From the moment you arrive till you leave the customer service is exemplary. The lush grounds, beautiful water features and Spanish influenced design make the place a pure joy to walk through. And the food, the food was plentiful and delicious. Virtually every meal was perfect and the 24 hr room service was a great addition for when you didn't want to go out. I would heartily recommend the swimup golden junior sweet, you walk out your patio door and you have a waiter offering both food and drink [... read more] (a great addition to the room service when your lazy). Events and live entertainment every night, activities all day long and a beautiful beach to lay on (it didn't bother me but the girlfriend found the sand too deep and soft for her to walk in). A perfect vacation destination.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Fantastic!

What a gorgeous resort. The staff were wonderful, the facilities were beautiful and clean, the food was absolutely delicious and the drinks were flowing and incredible! We will 100% be back! Loved it!

Greatest vacation resort by far! Everywhere you go is exceptionally clean! Food was superb and so many options of where to eat! We loved the spa and had massages together on valentines day! We will be back and want to stay for 10 days next vacation. Sincerely, Ray & Corinne Smith

Akumal Bay Beach and Spa Resort: Amazing beach

The hotel has been renovated and there was plenty of upkeep going on throughout our 2 week stay. Our room was comfortable, I was worried about the glass door for the toilet being that it was my first vacation away with my boyfriend, but it was not as bad as it appears. The Jacuzzi tub was great. We had a couple cooler nights and we took advantage of them by using the Jacuzzi. It wasn't the worst food I've had on vacation, but it wasn't the greatest either. Really no changes for breakfast. Lunch and dinner rotated as per the "theme" in the buffet. I never went hungry. My boyfriend is lactose intolerant and was given an allergy letter when we arrived. He was to show this to the head waiter at the buffet or al la carte for every meal and he would be shown what he could eat. After 3 days he found it was easier to stick to the things he was told about previously, such as the pasta bar or hamburgers for lunch and dinner. He had only one issue while we were there with the pasta bar. The gentleman cooking informed him the pasta was filled with meat only, no cheese. He even broke open one to show him the insides. My boyfriend ate the pasta, only to discover after my father tried the same type, that it was filled with cheese. There were no labels on the pasta themselves, only the mix ins. After trying to explain this to three staff in the buffet I went to the front desk. Unfortunately there was nothing that could be done for him at that point as he had already eaten it and just had to ride it out. The front desk told me they would follow up, but we never heard from them regarding the matter. We take some responsibility as he did not show his letter, however the staff should be educated more on dietary concerns and labels on the pasta to prevent any further issues. The al la cartes as first come first serve unless you are part of the fidelity club, then you can make reservations. We never listened to their presentation on becoming a member. The al la cartes open at 6. We found that if you were there when they opened you got in right away. Wait a bit and you were eating at 9 pm. The music at night was ok for the first couple nights, then it was the same set repeated. This is the first resort that I have stayed at that hasn't had any shows on in the evenings. They have a large theatre on the property where they used to do nightly shows (this was my parents third trip to this resort, first since the renovations and new management). They held a superbowl party in this theatre with game day food (wings, burgers, hot dogs, fries, chips, salsa and cheese sauce). We stayed for awhile but the chairs were too uncomfortable. It would be nice if they had some of the beach loungers up around the pool. They only have beds by the pool. Overall I was very impressed with the resort. Jacqueline from the entertainment staff is amazing. She remembers your name, where you are from and asks about your day whenever she sees you. She made the trip that much more exciting. Tim and Juan from the hotel excursion desk were great. Tim helped us find things to do at a much cheaper price than our tour agent was offering. German from the entertainment staff helped us with a paddle boarding lesson. He was very understanding and helpful.

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Very happy with our stay at the Royalton

Had an excellent stay at the Hideaway at Royalton Riviera Cancun. We go on holidays to use the beach and we loved how big the beach was and that there was never a shortage of beach chairs. We had very good service on the beach from the staff at the Hideaway beach bar (make sure to tip and the service is even better). We thoroughly enjoyed the food at all the restaurants. After reading other reviews we had two main concerns. 1) seaweed on the beach, they have now bought a tractor and beach sweepe [... read more]r and they stay on top of keeping the beach clean. 2) I agree with other reviewers, do not get a mangrove facing room. even with a room facing pool side we had two or three mosquitos in our room to hunt down each night.

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Amazing Resort!

This was a wonderful resort with amazing views. Many pools. The kids area, while we didn't use it, was fantastic. Staff was attentive. Rooms were luxurious. Amazing view from our ocean view Junior suite. Beach was cleaned daily. My daughter and I were spoiled with our Diamond club status.

Grand Sunset Princess: BEST TRIP EVER

We had a perfect time, weather, food, platinum suite, everything was absolutely wonderful. We would definately recommend GSP to everyone!! The resort was so clean and beautiful, the staff were very friendly!!

Occidental at Xcaret Destination: Pleasantly surprised!

Honestly we didn't expect much from this resort as we booked last minute but it was by far a favorite of the places we've stayed! The rooms were spacious and cozy. Bed was comfortable (an issue we ran into when we stayed in Cuba). Beach was bigger than it appeared in the pictures and beautiful. We saw lots just snorkeling around the area! Food and abundance of restaurants were fabulous (highly recommend governor tacos from the Mexican restaurant!). Service was generally great however we did find [... read more] that our "concierge" didn't follow through with any of the requests we made (i.e. more beer in our fridge, straws, he kept telling us about a "welcome gift" however never gave us anything). But overall the resort was a huge hit. Walking around is like walking through a jungle with deer, monkeys, birds, etc. We would absolutely return!!

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Pass on this resort!

At first look at our room we noticed the toilet seat was just about falling off the toilet. My husband tightened it up. After a few nights we found out there was a large group of Spanish students(168). A lot of them located on our floor. As there was a 24hr bar at the resort we found "drunk" young people (not sure how many of them were actually of age)coming back to their rooms at all hous with no regard for any of the other "paying" guests. No staff or security anywhere to be found to neutraliz [... read more]e this behavior so we found ourselves calling the front desk on several occasions to call for security. They did move us to another building after we Made a formal complaint which lasted a few says until the next large group of students booked in, many again in our newly relocated building. We once again found ourselves calling down for security to deal with the partying. The pools were very nice and the staff there was very attentive. When we ventured down to the beach we found ourselves walking over seaweed, other natural debri and much discarded man made garbage. We found this for the whole length of the beach. On some of the other resorts we have visited we saw staff every morning working hard at cleaning the debri up. Not a tough task using a rake,shovel and wheelbarrow. We saw no indication of clean up effort on the beach at this resort. A big part of going to the Mayan Riviera was being able to snorkel. The ocean off the beach appeared dirty most of the time with no visibility so this was a big disappointment for us. This is nothing the resort could control but one more reason we would not go back or recommend.
