Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Beautiful Resort

The resort is beautiful and so are all of the staff at this resort. Our room was fabulous as was the service we received. Although Cuban cuisine may not be to everyone's taste, there was plentiful food to choose from. The entertainment team were engaging and fun and the grounds ar kept up well. All 5 pools were open, and you have a nice choice of a quiet pool, the party pool or if course the beautiful beach! The al a carte restaurants were good. We truly enjoyed our holiday.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Nice Place

We really enjoyed the layout to the resort. The food wasn't bad either and the room was really NICE!!! They need to have more variety in Alcohol. We are big Amaretto Drinkers and they would only had a bottle every other day for the 1st 2 days then nothing after that.

Hotel Los Cactus: Beautiful grounds

The grounds of this resort were beautiful.. There were lots of places to hang out, even on the day it rained we found a bar we had not yet visited and curled up with a book beside the hot tub. The coffee bar was our favourite. Superb service.

Paradisus Varadero: outstanding place

everything was absolutely amazing and the ocean water a dream. Service was great, very n ice hard working people. It was very expensive though for a week, but to me it was worth it. Even the rainy days were great !

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Gorgeous beach, lovely people.

First time to Cuba and this resort and we will definitely go again. The rooms do have a humid smell that fades over time , but they are clean and comfortable. The food is good if you go to the pasta bar and grilled meat station and the breads are to die for! The pools are beautiful and the entertainment was excellent there is always something going on. Loved it!

Memories Jibacoa: Relaxing and friendly

This was my third time at Memories Jibacoa and it won't be my last. Clean, comfortable and friendly. As an adults only, it's much quieter and relaxing. Great beach, nice pool, friendly staff. Nice piano bar.

Palma Real: Amazing vacation spot

I came to this hotel because it is within walking distance of the beach, shopping and entertainment district. I was with 8 friends to celebrate a 50th birthday; and we all had an amazing time. The food, friendly staff and cleanliness of my room surpassed all my expectations. I am vegan, and I had no problem finding healthy food options that satisfied my pallet. The food was truly delicious, fresh and very tasty. The beach was long, clean, picturistic, and the water very shallow.

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: Three stars

The food was almost always cold. There was no system in the buffet to keep dishes even warm Potatoes, vegetables in warming trays looked nice but were cold. We found the beds so high the shorter ones in our group could hardly get in

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Discussing food!!!

The experience started bad with a front desk attendant that gave us the furthest building despite a request to be ground floor and close to the main building. After seeing how far away and discovering only maybe 50% occupancy we managed to get a closer room. Rooms typical Cuba, little run down and in need of repairs. Not the end of the world because we only really sleep in room. The rest of the resort about the same but bearable. The real problem is with the food! For lunch and dinner the fish they had smelled and tasted fishy! This means it's starting to rot. Not what you expect in the Caribbean. We meet a couple who had been many times in the past and they said the same. They said it use to be good, obviously something has changed to effect the quality being served up as food. My advise is to go elsewhere, this resort should be downgraded to a two star at the best! After less than 24hrs on site we had to pay extra to get transferred to a real resort with fantastic food! I highly recommend the Melia Las America.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Loved this resort

Resort is the perfect size with everything well laid out and central. Very clean. Room was made up and fridge stocked daily. Food, for Cuba, was very good. Pools and beach area were very clean. Three pools to choose from, the central pool being the party pool and the other two on the outsides quieter. Staff very nice and was very impressed by the quality of the nightly entertainment. Overall though a very pleasant experience and will definately go back.

Palma Real: nice hotel

Clean, friendly staff, needs better maintenance of building envelope. Food reminded me of my time as girl at an English boarding school. Everything cooked to dath with no spices at all. Food aside, the staff were great especially Vicky, my maid and Grace, the pool bartender.

Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda: Limited service without notification. Under reno!

Pros: Very nice staff and lovely beach. Cons: With lots of renovations underway, did not have access to buffet restaurant. This was relocated to a very small area near the beach. Really not ideal! They also only had one restaurant for evening dinner. Always the same menus. We got tired quickly of the food. The rooms lacked a lot as these were very dated and smelled badly.

Melia Las Antillas: Needs work!

The resort is aging and under construction during our visit. The pool washroom was open the first day only and then completely renovated. Once the renovations are done it may resemble 4.5 stars again.

Palma Real: Beyond My Expectations This was my first time in V

This was my first time in Varadero Cuba. The Bellevue Palma Real Hotel is rated as a 3 1/2 star property, however it exceeded our expectations. The food was good, the room was clean and comfortable and the service was also good.

Starfish Jibacoa: Better than expected!

We went to this hotel for the first time. It was very clean and the food was plentiful and the selection was good. Unfortunately the weather was not the greatest for our last three days. The only comment that I would like to have addressed is the numbering sequence of the bungalows. When we arrived we were assigned our room and were directed to where we should go. No map was provided or assistance. Since it was night it wasn't that easy to locate our room as the numbering of the bungalows made n [... read more]o sense at all. Lower and higher numbers were mixed in together with no rhyme or reason. Eventually obviously we found. The entertainers did their best to keep the quests active and participate in the events they had planned. Good experience overall.

Playa Caleta: Good Resort for the Money

Got a good deal during hurricane season including ocean front room. During one of the rain storms, stayed inside room to give myself a pedicure and rest. Did not realize that while toes were drying and laying on bed, water from patio was coming through and had a mini flood. When I called for assistance they said it would be half hour. Am glad didn't walk into room and slip on tile. Have learned to go to Cuba not for food, so expectations are in line with what is typical for 3 or less stars.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Thank god for natures beauty

Sunwing service was horrible to begin with!!! Do not book on line. Use a travel agent. Dining buffet was under construction during dining hours! Birds in dining area were pooping everywhere. I have never seen such unhappy employees at any resort in the Caribbean. Room air con sounds like a transport truck. No clock in room, terrible tv , channel choices.

Starfish Varadero: Reduce Star rating

this hotel was bad, they say 3 1/2 try 1 star construction happening , hotel major leak in roof, the beach staff and and the pool staff are loaded on the alchool more than the visitors, they are sitting there flirting with wives and drinking , the life gaurds are drunk, every one is on the make expecting heavey tips, I was assultated when i came back from town and the security expected a tip to handle the problem, want to keep your selfe and family safe stay away, there is bugs that are biting e [... read more]very one they dont spray, the managers are not able to comunicate with you if you try to tell them theres a problem. cant belive i did not leave, i was scared not of persons at night coming off the beach but from the staff, take a lot of bug spray and lotts of money for tips, grounds around bungals are dirty with trash, never seen them clean any thing other tha with a old rag, no bleach what so ever, staff hanging all over the girls, they offer prostitution for money that is the staff , dont bring family if you are expecting a good time, this resort is bad, there were so many bugs that you better look to fumeagate your lugage when you return change the star rating and bring you own body gaurd I cant say enough about the bad place this is, watch out bad bad bad........

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: A Hotel with a good potential BUT .....

This is actually a Hotel with a good potential BUT poor service & management !!! You will get a mixed feelings about this hotel ! The building and facility is definitely built for a 5 star hotel, specially SPA area which is really unique but poor service and lack of management pushes down this resort dramatically !! Starting with positive points : - Beach and pool areas are great, specially beach. Is typically white sand Cuban beach. Also there are enough sun beds and umbrellas all around the b [... read more]each and pools, so no struggling. - Entertainment team is doing a good job, no complain in this regards. They even had a foam party which was fun. - Japanese a la cart. - Nice people as they are “Cuban” ! Depending on personalities and expectations, the negative points are vary but I think the below deficiencies are very common and visible : - There is a “Towel Tragedy” going on in this resort ! No fresh towel is available during the housekeeping time, so you have to ask for it later but no guarantee to receive any ! Even the ones you receive are not in a good condition and can’t be used ! There are collections of wholes and stains and extremely small for body use ! I am glad we took our own towels, otherwise didn’t know what to do when coming back from beach and really need to take a shower, specially with a little kid !!! Having said that, the fresh beach towels have been always available during our stay … - The washrooms in all over the resort are either broken or out of soap & paper ! Please don’t blame Cuba for all these deficiencies !! Fixing or replacing toilet seats has nothing to do with common deficiencies in Cuba, It is just LACK OF MANAGEMENT !!! - “Maintenance” is another huge issue in this resort ! I am not sure if they have any regular maintenance checks, specially for the rooms but the drawers and closet doors are falling apart, as well as too many other things in the rooms ! The bulbs in the hallways are mostly burnt out and elevators really need some repairs … Beside these major problems, there are some general comments too which may be vary from case to case. For example the food was some days really acceptable with a good variety but some days were really hard to find something to eat, specially in the Grill restaurant by the beach ! Service was generally poor. For example if you wanted fresh towels, you had to call at least 3 times and not even any guarantee to receive one ! When we arrived, there was no welcoming procedure like the other resorts ! We have been waiting in a slow going line up for almost an hour, no one even came to serve a drink ! I asked the front desk to bring people some water at least before passing out !!! I won’t recommend this resort considering its higher price with lower quality ! If you pay less than 1000 $ it “may” worth but definitely not for the price we paid for !!!

Hotel Los Cactus: Fourth Visit!!!!!!!!!!

This trip I brought 6 girlfriends with me. We all had a fantastic time! Our rooms were great, the staff as always wonderful, the beach is the best ever'! The weekly Friday night lobster was the best yet. The girls didn't enjoy the food in the beginning, but after a couple of days, everybody figured out what they enjoyed and we were all happy! I always say if you are going to Cuba for the food, stay home. Beer and wine are excellent and the beach bar has burgers and hot dogs all afternoon, which  [... read more]are good!. The liqueurs are not like ours, so I don't recommend them unless you are at the VIP lounge at the airport ($30 cuc)' well worth it as you are in an air conditioned space and can eat and drink as much as you like until boarding. I will go back again and my friends are talking about going back with their families. The Cuban people are lovely and it is very safe to travel outside the resort. Taxi, bus and motorbikes available at a decent price. Excellent value for your money. For the first time, because the U.S. Rate is so high, we lost a lot converting Canadian to Cuban dollars. (Cuc). Next time I will exchange here before I leave. I hear that this hotel is going to be bought out in the next couple of years. What a shame! Go while the rates are still low. $1000 Canadian for a week all in. My one friend said, we couldn't go to Hamilton for the weekend that cheap! HOLA!
