Barcelo Maya Colonial: 5 star hotel and beach, 2 star front desk

The grounds are huge and beautiful. Although the resort was near fully booked, there always seemed like lots of space, chairs and privacy. The rooms are so-so, functional but nothing special. Our request for a king size bed was not accommodated, and when we attempted to switch it became a very tiresome and protracted exercise with the front desk, who seemed uninterested in solving the problem. Apparently the supervision or reporting structure is ineffective and their boss is in Spain ! T [... read more]hat experience aside, I would rate everything else highly. The food and drinks are 5 star, the beach and pools are gorgeous, and the specialized restaurants were high quality, especially the Tokyo and Kyoto. There is a water park and bowling alley just off the grounds, which are not free but fun. Lots to do.

Iberostar Waves Paraiso Beach: Great Resort

This resort is very well maintained, rooms are comfortable and roomy. The food is very tasty and never had a problem finding something tasty to eat. We had four specialty dinners, Italian, Mexican, Japanese and Steak all were very good but the Steak dinner was the best. The beach is very nice, however, it was red flagged for the ocean for all but one day of our stay obviously no fault of the resort. The staff at this resort are very helpful and pleasant to deal with.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Great Vacation

This was our second visit to this resort. Things where great. We had ground floor rooms that where perfect . We had daily visits from the wildlife and so enjoyed watching them. Service was good ,food , pools ,beach everything great..I'm sure we will return.

El Dorado Seaside Suites: 7 out of 10

We had a wonderful time at this resort. The activity staff were welcoming, fun and good at their jobs. We loved them all. The food was okay and the service was usually good (but not always). We enjoyed the abundance of open sunbeds and loungers, we like their rule of not being able to tag your seat with a towel all day. The beaches were nice. We enjoyed watching the diving pelicans. Unfortunately, the room air conditioner and refrigerator were very noisy, we turned them off at night to sleep.

Kore Tulum Retreat Wellness Resort: A Work in Progress

If you are looking for a 5 Star or even a 4 Star hotel experience this is not it. New ownership is working very hard at bringing this resort back to the status it apparently had in the past. Much work needs to be done.These are my observations: The staff are all exceptional. They are eager to assist and very friendly. All except for Juan the lobby manager. For example when asked to facilitate contacting the airport transfer company to assist in bringing a handicapped guest from the airport his r [... read more]esponse was that transport was not his business. Very inappropriate. Food was very good. Not Haute cuisine or fine dining but fresh, tasty, abundant, well prepared, good variety and well presented. Getting to the beach is a joke. The hotel advertizes a free “shuttle” service only at 10:30am to the beach and 3:30pm from the beach which is a 5 minute ride away. There is no shuttle service as one takes a private taxi during these two times that the hotel pays for. Outside these times costs $7US each way. Why note just have a token service where a guest can come and go any time. What was special about travelling only at those times was never answered by front desk staff. Also a joke is the absence of free WiFi. Mexico has some of the cheapest rates in the world yet this hotel charges a ridiculous per day usage amount. Liquor selection is pathetically minimal: No premium options and the selections on hand are minimal. Bottles of wine are only available for purchase and hugely overpriced. The grounds are beautiful and well kept although the front entrance could be made more welcoming with flowers and plants. It would take little effort to have one of the several front desk staff greet guests as they arrive with a warm face cloth and a glass of Prosecco like many hotels on the Mayan Riviera do. Instead you are left by yourself to find the front desk and a fundamentally disinterested welcome. Rooms are very large and very clean although they are getting long in the tooth and need modernizing. There is very little to do at this resort so it is unfortunate that the owners don’t maximize what they have. For example, they have a very nice two storey bar that operates in the evening. It is in dire need of either a disc jockey or at a minimum some piped in music to provide guests with some entertainment. There is also a large room off the bar area currently used as a library that no one attends. This could easily be turned into a cigar room with premium liquors that would attract guests and also be a money maker for the resort. The bottom line is that I felt management was “nickel and dimeing”me for services which one would expect to be included at an all inclusive resort.This resort has great potential but has a long way to go.

Seadust Cancun Beach Resort: Great staff just not enough of them!

Large, clean hotel with great rooms. Restaurants were good and no reservations needed. We only waited once for about 20 minutes for the Japanese one. The steak house was our favourite. The buffet had a good selection but bad set up and often had to wait for a table as it was busy. The crêperie boasts that it’s open 24 hours but really only accessible from 4pm to midnight. Bars were lacking staff, long waits especially by the pool. The poolside restaurant was good but long waits. Would  [... read more]be better if they had burgers and hotdogs made ahead during busy times. Most staff were very friendly and helpful. No water bottles in our room until the last day. Kids waterpark looked fun for little ones but only 2 slides for older kids so our boys lost interest quickly. The teen zone had ping pong, board games and video games but was in a dark room and no activities for them so not very appealing. The pool side activities were lacking with minimal participation as a result. The beach was beautiful with great sand bottom and shallow so you can walk out quite a ways. It was red flagged all week for waves but that was fun for us. If you want a chair poolside you need to be out by 9 or 10am as they fill up quickly. The evening shows were ok, circus show was our favourite.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Beautiful Resort

The grounds and gardens were very well kept and had a wide variety of birds and other animals wandering around which I loved. There were many pools to go to so it never felt crowded. The hotel lobby,bathrooms and our room was always kept clean and well stocked. Staff were very friendly and eager to help with any issues. The variety of food and how it was displayed was very inviting and it was excellent. The drinks were very good and made to order. There was a shuttle service right to the amazing [... read more] beach where we had tropical fish swimming right up to us. I would definitely go back!

Paradisus Playa Del Carmen Roulette: Beautiful resort

The Paradisus La Perla resort is beautiful and all areas were clean. I recommend the Royal Service as it is well worth the extra cost to not have to worry about reservations for meals or excursions. The staff take care of all of these tasks. The room was attended to multiple times per day to ensure that you had everything needed overall you will not be dissapointed if you visit this resort

Occidental Cozumel: Quiet, and small resort.

The resort is very clean and well kept. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We had a great time as a group, but feel that as two people we might have been a bit bored. The food in the buffet was quite good. The late night pizza was great, but we found the a la carte restaurants a bit lacking- I would steer clear of the beef dishes, as those seemed to be the worst. The shows at night were quite good, but day time activities were lacking. Overall, I think it was a nice trip, and would recommend the resort to couples or groups. Children would be bored stiff here.

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Grand Sirenis = Perfect getaway

We arrived at 9 AM and check in was quick and simple. staff are very friendly, and no big push for Timeshare spiels, just decline to go to the "special celebration" . We didn't think we would get a room until after 3 PM but was told it would be ready in 1 hr. Grounds are beautiful, well kept and even though it is a large complex, very easy to get around. Tried 4 of the restaurants, and all were very good with the Thai Siam being the favorite. The lemongrass and shrimp soup is amazing! Spent most of the time on the beach, but did the on site Dolphin show[ a must do] and 2 excursions, 1 to EkBalam/ Cenote Maya , as we had already done all of the other ruins on previous trips. Very well done, although it is an all day outing. We also took the bus to Playa Del Carmen, then the ferry across to Cozumel for the day to meetup with another couple on vacation. Hint, take the yellow ferry and don't pay the extra to upgrade, just a wast of money. The Friday night Rock n Roll show was excellent as well as the other nightly shows which start at 9, after the little ones are in bed:) All in all , a perfect getaway and would return anytime..

Barcelo Maya Caribe: Excellent place

The food and hotel staff were amazing and I look forward to returning next year. I loved the a la carte restaurants and we always had chairs in the pool/beach areas. I totally recommend this hotel! Very impressed.

Grand Palladium Vallarta: Great Resort

Great hotel. Service was amazing. Staff took care of everything. Great spot for children. The kids club was great and resort was clean and well run. Family selection is well worth the upgrade. Zoo was super cool

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Great Resort

The hotel was very clean the rooms were equally clean.....the property was very well landscaped and maintained ......the staff very friendly.....excellent food and plenty of it.....as far as the Hotel goes Excellent....would go back again. As far as Westjet is concerned NOT Happy......The meet/greet meeting i thought was good and good advice on not being maneuvered, manipulated or listening to speeches for time shares and so forth .....we were told "your time is valuable and you paid a lot o [... read more]f money to be here" also were told by Westjet we get a "FREE" ride into Playa by van if we buy an excursion ....so we did....then we HAD to stop in Playacar for 1 hr. to be harassed by sales people in a Jewelry shop... when we arrived in Playa we were told we only had 2 Hrs. NOT HAPPY WITH WESTJET

The Sens Cancun: Couldn't pay me to stay here again

I am not a wordly traveler, but I have been to Cuba 3 times, Jamaica twice, and Mexico before. This was by far the worst place I have stayed. Starting with the front desk on my arrival I was disappointed. Having arrived late due to weather, I was expecting that my sister would already be registered. she flew from Toronto. There was even an extra fee for the room safe. The hotel and room were dated to say the least. It did seem clean. We woke in the middle of the night to a flooded bathroom, the toilet was leaking. Which they did fix quickly when we called. The food tasted fine, but everything was constantly cold at the buffet. If you wanted to eat in the a la cart restaurant, you could only make reservations at 4 on the day of. Ive never stayed in a place were you didnt make all your reservations at once. Alcohol was bottom shelf, you could pay extra for better wine. Why when you've already paid alot to be there. When it rained the ceilings leaked. which made it unsafe to walk in certain areas. The only redeemable quality about the place, were the people (besides the desk clerk) the servers, cleaning staff, bartenders, gardeners, were all very friendly and hard working. I would never go back though

Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya: Accessible travel review

My wife and I recently return from the Hard Rock in the Riviera Maya. As a paraplegic who relies on a wheelchair for mobility this resort proved to have its challenges. The majority of the restaurants on both sides (Hacienda and Heaven's) had multilevel dinning areas that were not accessible, of the most frustrating one was the Toro steak house. To access the host in order to confirm your reservation and be seated you had to enter the main doors however the only accessible seating area was down  [... read more]below and therefore you needed to back outside down a ramp and enter through another set of doors to gain access to that level. The restaurants that did have ramps were very short and steep. The lobby bar on the Heaven's side was not accessible...2 steps would could have easily been ramped. The accessibly of the gifts shops on both sides were hit and miss, some were and others were not. My biggest peeve was the fact that there were no accessible washrooms pool side. On the Hacienda side I needed to go into the main building which had a maze of 5 ramps to access. On the Heavens side fortunately our room was not too far. On the other hand...the resort was beautiful and impeccably maintained. The staff were very kind, friendly helpful and always looking to assist in any way. Our room was spacious and always cleaned promptly. The food was amazing...the pizza bar became its own daily food group. All in all we managed well and had a great stay. I've been travelling long enough to know that accessibly means different things to different people, especially when travelling abroad and you take what you get and make it work.

Park Royal Ixtapa: Cleanest Resort and friendly staff

We really enjoyed this resort from Feb 1 till Feb 15 2019 , the staff was very friendly and spoke good english we had no problems booking in, exchanging money for small bills i can't say enough about how clean the resort was . Maids were so friendly and the room was spotless every day ,sheets change constantly .The bed were very hard but after 14 days got use to them if i was this resorts owners i would definitely switch to pillow tops i am sure they can afford to upgrade. Swim up bar was always full of children but being a family resort and reading review before we left we knew what was mean to be . we had a ton of fun and price value excellent

Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta: Awesome Again!

We celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary at the Hyatt ziva in PVR and were not disappointed. Julia Tollis of Trip Central set this us for me way back in September and did an amazing job, thank you Julia!

Riu Flamingos: Riu Jalisco

The hotel was amazing except our room smelled awful we would of had to wait 3 days for another and decided we got use to it and they put a lot of disinfectant. The grounds amazing enough chairs for everyone, the beach clean and again enough chairs. The food was often cold and not enough food without spices for people with bad stomachs that was the only complaint if they can get food for everyone it would be paradise. I was disappointed that they had no mangos but the papaya was great.

Grand Oasis Sens: Great reaort

Service was awesome, hotel was well kept. We really Enjoyed our stay for a week. Would recommended to friends and family . Location was very convenient close to lots of amenities and daily Activities. Locals and other tourists were very helpful and friendly.

Allegro Cozumel: We love Allegro Cozumel!

Lovely resort, well manicured grounds, lovely rooms, great stretch of ocean, friendly staff, nice private lounge for premium guests - would definitely recommend booking premium level. We will be back.
