Catalonia Bavaro Resort: Decent hotel - terrible beach

Hotel grounds are beautiful, Deluxe suites are spacious and comfortable, restaurants are very nice best restaurant for breakfast and dinner is the Thalassa. Staff for the most part are very nice but very limited on English conversation but being in DR we are used to that but seemed to be more evident at this hotel compared to other hotels in the Bavaro area and special attention was given to the guests that arrived from Spain. Beach was terrible and although it was cleaned on the family side the [... read more] adult side the seaweed was just left in piles for days on end with one day not even piles it was just pushed in front of the ocean and the guests were clearing pathways in to the water. Our last full day there the management decided to use a backhoe and bobcat to clear the seaweed and we then had to contend with the noise all day. There is construction at the side of the family hotel looks like a brand new addition to the Catalonia group, there was construction in the family area in the privilege section of rooms.

VIK Hotel Arena Blanca: NOT ONE THING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT

Beautiful updated rooms. Food was great, loved not having to book for a la carte's. First sight of the beach made me want to run to rebook at another resort. The amount of seaweed was astronomical. They worked hard to clear it, but it was not possible. I decide I would not let it spoil our vacation as we spend the whole vacation on the beach. Occidental Punta Cana: Definately worth it!

I would go back to this resort. The grounds are lovely- clean and well kept. We always saw people cleaning. Best beach (we had been to Mexico a few times) Beautiful sandy beach up to and into the water. There was seaweed but they said it was the time of year (middle of July) not the hotels fault. They did take it off the beach. Good move for Transat to have a beach section just for their clientele. Pools were really nice looking -saw the guy cleaning every day. Best lobby I have seen at a resort again so clean, buffets and a la carte restaurants , beach barbeques- no shortage of food and snacks. Our room was spacious and clean could use some decorating -painting and color fabrics. Although we didn't spend a lot of time in the room. We would seriously consider going back next year and maybe taking the kids -they did offer a lot to do for kids.

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Beautiful Resort

Hotel is big,beautiful and clean.The staff was attentive when you can get their attention cause the resort does have a high volume of tourist.We did have some issues with a really bad smell coming from a swampy area and had to request a different room.Also the bar in the main lobby area closed to early at night and it was such a nice place to hang out but closed way to early for people who did not want to go to the disco or casino.Another thing is that the shows clashed with dinner time so it wa [... read more]s hard fitting it in.All in all it I had a very good time and I love the ambiance of the resort

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Nice Location for our Family Trip

The resort was very nice and maintained well during our stay. The service throughout the resort was very good; not exceptional but any issues we had were taken care of. The rooms are a little dated but good enough for a one week stay. The food options were very good but having said that, a fair number from our group did have stomach issues during and after our trip. Royalton CHIC Punta Cana: An Adult Resort that gets you Dancing!

Great Resort! New clean and friendly service. The resort is the perfect size to spend a week. The SPA is an amazing building with great services. The pool is clean and there us always something going on. After lunch the DJ's start spinnning and the tunes keeps the atmosphere alive. The buffet has lots of selection and the restaurants have a menu that will have something for everyone. The rooms are clean and well appointed. The night life was great, always something going on around the pool area. The lobby bar closed to early leaving the only place to enjoy a drink was inside the "sports bar" disco.

Dreams Royal Beach Punta Cana: Great Resort

The resort is beautiful. Gardens are well-maintained, rooms are perfect size. However the garden view rooms are far from the lobby and the rest of the resort. A lot of the resort is for members only -so when they say 5 pools, really you have acccess to only two pools. Food was fantastic and the entertainment group were amazing.

Bahia Principe Escape Ambar: Paradise!

Beautiful hotel and grounds, extremely clean.Service poolside and at restaurants excellent. The only thing that made me not rate this a 5 star was because of all the seaweed on the beach. It ruined the experience of spending time on that spectacular beach. I have been to the DR in November and the seaweed was not an issue. Not sure if it was just a summer thing ...

Bahia Principe Explore Esmeralda: excellent

almost everything was more then we expected. nice people. good food. clean beach. the stuff trying everyday to make you be pleased, happy, without any worries. we want to go back in the same place in the same room.

Occidental Caribe: Great resort !

Beautiful grounds, well kept, clean, 1/2 of the servers great other 1/2 rather straight faced. Language barrier (hardly anyone knew English ) beach was beautiful but lots of seAweed On beach so hard to swim plus water was a Little rough for me. Weather was great. Lots of grads there 400+ the week we were there so not the best family oriented resort that week for us. But We had a great time regardless. I would advise to book excursions through your rep at hotel not at the pool or beach. We did ha [... read more]ve a disappointing experience on one event that we did not book through our rep. My son got good poisoning on the last day unfortunately. Food was ok overall. The Japanese restaurant on site was awesome. The pirate excursion was also Fabulous.

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Very nice resort

The things you most in a resort for all there. Rooms, hotels, pools and food were all very nice. I had expected the beaches to be slightly better from comments. The staff were nice but I have been treated to better in the past. The Grand Bahia in Mexico were friendlier. Overall a very nice time.

Majestic Elegance Punta Cana: amazing resort

I would highly recommend this lovely resort .We stayed in theclub section ,it certainly was well worth the upgrade,everyone in the resort were very pleasant and couldn,t do enough for you.THE meals were outstanding and most of staff spoke good English.We will return next year

The Reserve at Paradisus Punta Cana: Amazing Trip

Awesome resort, friendly staff, great food restaurants, awesome pools. Our only complaint was the beach which was beautiful but the seaweed was awful, too much of it, maybe the time of year? The pools more than made up for it tough! Best pools ever.

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Top notch resort with friendly staff

We were fortunate enough to get upgraded for free (along with some other folks from our flight). I would go back to the Esmerelda the next time I head over to Grand Bahia. All in all, the resort is huge and fun with some friendly staff. They did a huge celebration for Canada Day which was great.

Excellence Punta Cana: Not the best "bang for your buck"!

Trip was nice because we made it nice. This was our second time at the resort and a lot has changed since we were there 4 years ago...and not for the better. I had bug bites on my legs and feet from sand fleas in the bed and would get bitten by mosquitos while walking to the restaurants for dinner. Also too many people walking around trying to sell you excursions which got to be too much when you are trying to relax by the pool. The beach is no longer groomed or so it would seem. The amount of s [... read more]eaweed found along the beach in front of the resort was a big disappointment. 4 years ago the beach was cleaned every morning...not any more. Restaurants were o.k....nothing to write home about and the food in general was loaded with salt and was a disappointment. Along with the room service....long wait times and the food not good at all. Did we get good value for what we paid?...I would say no. We would have went back to Secrets because it is much better but the resort was full during the time we wanted to go. Would I go back? No...and I probably wouldn't recommend this place to people as the value and quality of food is just not there for what you are paying.

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Great Resort - Amazing Experience!!!

My husband and I went this resort to celebrate our honeymoon in spring 2015. The resort is very well designed, and extremely well maintained. We had an amazing experience from the service provided, the rooms, the food, the pool /beach experience, the entertainment (the one we saw - Michael Jackson impersonation and evening beach party), the overall ambiance... Royalton CHIC Punta Cana: Awesome Honeymoon!!!

Chic was very beautiful and brand new/modern. Great couples resort and perfect for our honeymoon! We would definitely recommend this resort to other couples. Great food and very friendly staff. Pools are very nice as well.

Occidental Caribe: Beautiful

Room was beautiful and clean, the grounds were well taken care of, the beach was clean and you never struggle to find a chair, food was decent there was a wide selection and the pasta bar and fresh meat station were very good. Night life was good, many options from shows, casino, to lobby bars, music and a disco.

Riu Palace Bavaro: Decent resort with not great food

The resort did not live up to what I expected from a Riu. Appearance wise the resort looks beautiful but lacks a in a lot of other areas. From any other resort I've been the a la cartes have always had the better food here the buffet was better as all the other reviews say. Our room key didn't work more than 7 times, each time we had to go all the way to the lobby so that they could send someone to fix it. Another time our safe wouldn't open. Someone came and fixed it but the same thing happened [... read more] again the following day which led to it having to be broken. The manager, Roberto I believe was very helpful and helped us quite a bit. The other thing that they may want to stop doing is putting flowers on the beds and scattered in the room. Everyday we would find numerous ants crawling around the flowers. It's a nice touch but when it brings so many bugs into the room maybe another approach should be taken. The sports bar is very nice for the only problem being people constantly smoking. We had to go early so that we wouldn't be exposed to as much second hand smoke. The shows in the evening were amazing! Definitely one of the best shows I've seen at any resort. The beach had a lot of seaweed making it hard for anyone to go into the water. Not sure if it was the time of season or if it happens all the time. Overall I would not recommend this resort to anyone not worth the money.
