Beautifully beaches, great snorkelling, older hotel but beautiful gardens, long walks, great people and events. Had Canadian night with steak, shrimps dinner. Next day big event with performers in the lobby, music and great dinner, lobsters, Sudhir, etc.

Iberostar Waves Paraiso Beach: Great resort for standard budget!
Buffets especially breakfast great. Rooms slightly outdated and there wasn't a chest of drawers to store clothes. Grounds and facilities great and very friendly staff. A la carte could be hit and miss. Would have liked a better understanding of ability to access other connected resort beyond use of the pools. Extremely clean everywhere and had lots of amenities for adults and kids.

Iberostar Waves Paraiso del Mar: Another Stay in a Lovely Resort
We have stayed at Iberostar (Waves) Paraiso del Mar (as well as Iberostar Paraiso Beach) multiple times--and it remains one of our favourite resorts! While it was not pefect, it was still very enjoyable. FYI the negatives--We found the "Concierge" diversion after check-in to be not worth our time (discouraged us from meeting with our Air Canada rep to find out our transfer time because she wanted us to attend her "presentation" on the selection/club membership instead), and she did not advise [... read more]us on the ability to book restaurant reservations on the app (usually after 1030 PM the night before) versus coming in the morning to see her. As well, the coatis near the garbage cans at the far pool area have learned to go inside and overturn them, making a mess and becoming pests a bit (Please, people, do not feed them or leave food on your lounger area or even in a bag, and be aware that they do bite--let them be). As well, at times the internet speed was not up to streaming, but one could always check emails. But these experiences were dwarfed by all the positives--a beautiful beach and pool area (and staff did confiscate belongings from chair hogs sometimes), with enough loungers and shade for everyone to enjoy the experience; delicious food at the buffet restaurants--the Plaza on the Beach side was our favourite--don't miss the Asian night for sashimi, tuna tataki, and other favourites. As well, we enjoyed the Mexican themed night at La Plaza. There was always something tasty to eat--from omelettes freshly made (small tips accepted but not required), many vegetable and fruit choices, healthy proteins including fish and seafood, and comfort foods, too. We enjoyed the French El Colonial restaurant (we lined up 20 minutes before the first seating to guarantee a spot)--order multiple Burgundy escargot appetizers if you want to share escargot (3 snails per appetizer), note that the Mezclum salad fried brie was a much larger sharable portion, and the Caribe Chocolate cold souffle sphere and wild berries was a delight! As well, I found the reservation for the El Rodizio was very worth our while--feel free to request a hotter sauce (we enjoyed what a believe may have been a habernero cream sauce in small amounts). The coffee shop in the shopping plaza area was a favourite, and there was ice cream and crepes also nearby. The gym was wonderful, and there were enough activities available to stay busy if one wanted. We found the ceramic painting to be ridiculously overpriced ($30 USD for a 3 inch plate??), though. We find this place perfect for families and all ages. We don't require air-conditioned buffets (the shade and fans keep the area very cool), and prefer the birds and animals in these resorts versus the more expensive Lindo/Maya resorts. PS rooms can be chilly with the A/C--bring pjs and feel free to request a blanket.

Iberostar Origin Tainos: Amazing resort
Absolute Paradise! An Unforgettable Cuban Escape at Iberostar Tainos
From the moment we arrived, we knew we'd chosen the perfect getaway. The Iberostar Tainos in Varadero isn't just a vacation spot; it's a vibrant slice of Cuban paradise meticulously designed for relaxation and joy.
Our room was fantastic—spacious, immaculately clean, and comfortable. Waking up to the tropical breeze and stepping onto our balcony to catch a glimpse of that legendary Varadero turquoise water set the tone fo[... read more]r every perfect day.
The beach is absolutely the resort’s crown jewel. The famous powdery white sand of Varadero met crystal-clear, calm waters that were perfect for swimming. The dedicated staff kept the area impeccable and were always on hand with fresh towels and a friendly "hola." We spent our days alternating between lounging on the stunning beach, taking dips in the large, well-maintained pools, and enjoying the fantastic animation team's activities.
The dining experiences were a highlight. The main buffet offered a great variety of options to please everyone, and the themed restaurants were a delicious change of pace. Special mention to the amazing cocktails at the bars—the mojitos were perfection and the perfect accompaniment to those spectacular Caribbean sunsets.
What truly set this resort apart, however, was the staff. Every single team member, from the tirelessly cheerful entertainment crew to the hardworking restaurant and housekeeping staff, was genuinely warm, attentive, and embodied the incredible Cuban spirit. They went above and beyond to ensure our happiness.
Whether you're seeking a fun-filled family vacation, a romantic retreat, or a peaceful recharge, Iberostar Tainos delivers incredible value and a wonderful experience. We left feeling completely rejuvenated and are already dreaming of our return. ¡Muchas gracias por todo!
10/10 - A Perfect Varadero Beach Resort Experience.

JOIA Bavaro by Iberostar: Iberostar Joy-a was excellent……again
Absolute perfection—again! This was our 6th or 7th stay at Joia Bávaro by Iberostar, and it somehow gets better every time. This resort has truly become our home away from home.
Houston, our butler, was exceptional—professional, attentive, and genuinely caring. He made every detail seamless. Ery at the pool bar was incredible, crafting great drinks with a fun, welcoming energy that kept us coming back. Mornings were made brighter by Ortiz at the buffet, whose warmth and friendly service set t[... read more]he perfect tone for the day.
The golf course was a dream, and exactly what we Canadians need in January—lush, beautiful, and a perfect escape from winter back home.
From the outstanding staff to the beautiful grounds and flawless service, Joia Bávaro continues to exceed expectations. We wouldn’t hesitate to return and already can’t wait for our next visit. Highly, highly recommended.

Iberostar Selection Holguin: We had an amazing time!
We had an awesome week. The whole experience was great. We enjoyed the beach, the pool, the food and the staff. Our maid kept our rooms clean and comfortable. We were travelling with our daughter and son-in-law and granddaughter who is 2 1/2. Any concerns we had about travelling with a toddler were for nothing. She had the best time!

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Great Resort, Great People
This resort was wonderful. The staff were great, the facilities were in good shape and pretty well maintained. Some of the boardwalks could use some work to make them a bit safer. There was always lots of food. The rooms were clean. The beach was amazing! The ocean was so clean. The evening entertainment was great, but not intended for kids. If you are looking for a great resort that gives to great value for your money, I would highly recommend this resort.

Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda: Great resort
I love this resort , it’s my fourth stay here.
Only one complaint was the food was the same every day
All the staff were very friendly and helpful
I loved they put us in a ground floor room because of mobility issues.
Because this resort is on the smaller size it is so easy to get around to the pool, beach, bars, and restaurants

Iberostar Coral Ensenachos: Always my first choice in Cuba
I'm a repeat guest at Ensenachos, and there are so many reasons I keep going back. The staff, without a doubt, are reason number one. They have had some challenges over the past couple years, as much of the country has, but they rise to the challenge every time.
Rooms - The selection side rooms are always in a cycle of update and upkeep, and are comfortable at worst. The Coral side features bungalow suites with kitchen, sitting area and ensuite flush, and a full bedroom with full bath with show[... read more]er and tub. Coral also features hot tubs on the rear porches.
Food - the biggest challenge the resort is facing in 2026 is getting their main buffet kitchen back in business, along with their a la carte rooms. They are making do, but they are constantly trying to get the restaurants running once more. On the Coral side, All three meals are available without going anywhere. The food is good, if not adventurous. They make the most of what is available. No shortage of seafood and meats. Wednesday night is lobster night, with entertainment. Snack bars at Playa Megano and the Selection side pool fill the gaps nicely.
Service - It's very simple. If you need something that isn't immediately available, all you do is ask. If it can be done, they will make it happen. Room too cold (weird, right?)? No problem, here's the A/C remote, make it comfortable. Bus not running on time to the markets? We'll set up a driver, and we will ensure you get back safely as well. Excursions and experiences, no problem. All with a smile.
Last but not least - The Beach(es). Without a doubt, Megano and Ensenachos are the best beaches in Cuba, if not in the islands writ large. Swimming, snorkeling, lounging... Beautiful sand, gentle surf, almost zero seaweed (no sargassum). Fish and other sea creatures in abundance.
Thinking about going to Ensenachos?? Do it. You won't regret it.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Iberostar Puerto Plata
This hotel is not a modern unit. But I will say that the management does the best they can do in maintaining its integrity. For the most part the people that work here are very friendly and accommodating. The only problem that I can say I had which is normal almost everywhere that doesn’t have English as a first language is communication. Although it’s not their fault it does make for some difficulties at times. This I where people like Caroline and Gabriel in customer service shine. They truly [... read more]come to the plate. Caroline helped us when our flight got cancelled to return to our rooms she even brought three other ladies from Burlington in because their hotel left them on their own. When you run into people like this who do more than your tour rep to help you. You have to say THANKS DEAR GIRL. I do recommend this place to young and young at heart. The food is great the grounds are beautiful hotel staff can’t be more helpful. There are plenty of activities if you choose to do them. Or there are plenty of lawn chairs if you do not. I never heard a anyone speaking bad about the hotel in the one week last year and two weeks this year and I’ll be back.

Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda: Nice Resort!
The Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda is a nice but somewhat dated resort. Our first room near the beach was clean, but smelled of mildew. The front desk staff immediately moved us to another building and our new room was comfortable and clean. There was plenty of hot water and AC worked well. Food at the resort was a little bland but good. Choices were somewhat limited, but always included a couple of proteins (pork, chicken, fish), omelettes, cooked and fresh vegetables, fruit, breads, and desser[... read more]ts. The 24 hour cafe offered ham and cheese sandwiches and hotdogs. Staff were friendly and warm. The beach was lovely, with plenty of beach chairs and shade for everyone. We tried the Cuban and Italian restaurants on site. Food was okay, but not much different than what was offered in the main restaurant. Although Cuba is experiencing a lot of difficulties at the moment, there were no issues with the resort's supply of electricity, water, and food. We enjoyed our stay at Alameda and were aware of what to expect at a Cuban resort. This resort met our expectations.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: A Solid Experience
The resort was pretty solid altogether. Service was above average, and the staff were quite friendly. The beach was nice, and so was the pool. We spent a lot of time in the loby and it was a great place to relax.
The food was better than I've had so far in cuba, but it's still not anything to write home about. The buffet was pretty similar every day, with either pork and chicken or pork and fish as the main attraction. Lots of rice, bread beans and vegetables to fill your plate. Fresh fruit w[... read more]as usually available, but the quality wasn't great. The deserts, however, were exceptional, as was the coffee at breakfast.
The resort had a few issues; some of the washrooms were in a state of mild disrepair, and our room had its eccentricities. But we had hot water throughout and no power issues.
Entertainment wasn't always our thing, but you have to respect that they made a solid effort. There was always something going on.
There was a special Canadian cocktail hour... this was a little silly, I'd probably skip it if I were you, and the gala dinner at the buffet just ended up being the buffet with more pageantry. The lobby bar isn't super well designed, as it's difficult to queue up and often devolves into confusion. But if you hang out in the lobby long enough, someone will come and take your order.
The cigar lounge was a bit expensive (15 USD for a basic cigar), but they poured you a nice glass of rum, and the guy who ran it was friendly.
Overall we had a good time and if you're easy-going, you will too.

Iberostar Selection Riviera Cancun: Unhappy with changes made by new management
This trip was our 5th visit to this resort. During the first two visits the resort was Azul and then the Palmar Beach Resort (two visits). It is now part of the Iberostar chain. We are in our mid-70's and my wife has mobility issues. Initially we selected this resort because it was quite small with little walking to the pools, buffet and most restaurants, if situated centrally (i.e., building 2 or 3). During our first stay, we were in a first floor room in building 3. One issue was that we w[... read more]ere not able to use the pools closest to that building because access was via ladders, rather than steps with a railing. This was not an issue because the Adult Only Pool was only about 20 metres away and had appropriate handicapped access (i.e., steps with a railing). During our next 3 stays, we went for the more expensive option of a swim-up room in building 2. This provided stair and railing access for my wife and allowed us water access via swimming channels to the Adult Pool with a swim-up bar and various activities. This was ideal as Building 2 is also close to the majority of services/restaurants. We requested the same room for our most recent stay, but quickly found out that we could no longer access the pool which, under the new management, was reserved for Prestige Iberostar members. Thus we were paying for an expensive swim-up room with no water access to any of the pools. That is, a swim-up room with nowhere to swim. Our immediate complaint to management was answered quickly, and we were offered a room in building 1 which also has swim-up rooms. Building 1 connects to a different pool which also has a swim-up bar and various activities. However, the walking distances associated with Building 1 were too great for my wife to deal with. Although the two-tier guest issue is annoying, the big problem is the absence of stair/ramp with railing access to all the pools except the pool now designated Prestige only. We would have been happy with Building 3 on our first stay (and subsequent stays)if my wife had been able to get in and out of the adjacent pools. This would also be a cheaper option than a swim-up room. We will not go back to this resort useless the pool access issues are solved. Over the course of our two week stay, we talked to several other guests who had the same problems/concerns.
On the positive side, the food and other services at this resort are very good. The service and cleaning staff are great and the rooms are comfortable. The new management has opened a 24 hour cafe that makes getting coffee and snacks quite easy. As well, there is a new system for obtaining drinking water in which guests can fill up a container at convenient water stations rather than relying on the delivery of plastic bottles. Although this resort is not a "night-life" type of place, the nightly entertainment has improved. Apart from the access issue, the pools are clean and well-maintained. The beach however is small and is plagued with the seaweed problem that is an issue for many resorts in this area. Of the 5 times we have been to this resort only twice have I been able to swim/snorkel off the shore without seaweed issues.
In summary, we have enjoyed our stays at this resort in the past, but will not return unless pool access issues are resolved. We do not recommend this resort to people with mobility issues. We do not recommend this resort for a "beach" holiday.

Iberostar Selection Playa Mita: Great resort
This was our 9th trip to Iberostar Selection Playa Mita and we have been to PV 26 times so far.
For money spent this resort is excellent value. It isn't our favorite out of all of hem but 2nd in line and significantly less money comparatively.
The buffet is always excellent with lots of fresh choices and on staff chefs to make you up something special. There is also someone coming through the dining area with a cart of special treats.
The a la carte restaurants also have good food and are e[... read more]asy to get into.
In the 12 years we have been going there it if course has more wear and tear and needs some TLC in spots but overall still great.
This year we found it too busy and more kids then previous and most of the staff has slipped in their service because of being overworked but there are still some stand out workers. The beach is long and beautiful and so much fun to swim and boogie board but during full moons the water is high so your not getting out there until close to noon. They definitely need to replace the beach loungers and umbrellas but they are always available.
When we have come with family the grandkids enjoyed the kids camp. All in all I would still say 4//5 for sure and possibly 5/5 if your coming with children and not going to an adult's only.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Good Hotel
everything about this hotel was great including food, drinks, rooms, location, and especialy the staff. This was our second time at theIberstar waves costa dorada andwe look forwaed to returning in the near future.,
Went as a family of 4 with two elementary aged kids. Non-drinkers/partiers; mainly focused on kid-friendly activities, exercising, and relaxing.
- Buffet food was very good with plenty of variety and options
- Concierge was super helpful when we had requests (we requested blankets so one of our kids could sleep on the couch & they took it 1 step further & provided a full extra trundle bed)
- Beach was nice and well maintained. Liked that there was a bar, food station, and bathrooms right [... read more]there
- Nothing felt overly crowded. Busy and lively but not crowded
- Check in/out was simple
- Lots of activities for all ages
- Gym was large and had plenty of machines as well as additional studios & free weights upstairs
- Also lots of tennis courts and pickle ball. We had no issue booking a court, plenty of free space
- Grounds were well kept and lovely
- Appreciated all the drink stations with various juices and water with fruit in them to add a bit of flavour
- Coffee shop was open 24/7 and had nice ambiance
- Nightly entertainment was pretty top notch!
- There was a live band playing covers of popular songs at the pool on Friday and they were really awesome & talented.
- You could wander to the lindo & del mar sides. Lindo was also very nice. Del mar was more sprawling but there's parrots and flamingos to check out if you head that direction
- Generally large grounds which was nice, enough room to go for a long walk.
- Star camp seemed cool but our kids were not fans unfortunately; they went for a few hours one day and declared "never again". Other kids seemed to like it.
- This is our fourth time visiting Mexico. We have done a different resort every time. This has been the best experience for us.
Small things I noticed that were less-good but not deal breakers/were just a passing "hm this could have been better" thoughts.
- Someone else's hair on our room's shower wall when we first arrived = cleaner missed it? Not a big deal but if you're a stickler for cleanliness maybe you would notice and care a lot.
- At the breakfast buffet they had pre-made options for omlettes etc but they were often a bit cold. They also had folks making fresh omlettes & pancakes to order so if you want something hot I'd recommend that. There was rarely any line for this either!
- Some of the people who worked there seemed pretty "blah" about their job haha. They were always polite but you could see they were also a bit over it all. We tried to be nice & tip etc and again this wasn't a big deal. I'm sure it's a very hard job as well. But if you are a stickler for perfect service and having people fake it until they make it maybe it would bother you.
- Coatis are a bit annoying sometimes, I saw one jump on a guy and steal food right out of his hand. They were also frequently inside the garbage cans so i was a bit wary when using the cans in case one jumped out at me (never happened phew). I'd just say to be aware when you have food and they are around. Don't leave food unattended. They are cute though and fun for the kids.
