Okay Resort

Beds were really uncomfortable. Food was a 5 out of 10. Ocean and Beach was great. Pool was freezing. Entertainment was a 4 out of 10. I wouldnt return to this resort. ................................

Nice resort

The grounds were very nice. Food was ok but not excellent. Went 3 days without bath towels, they took their time in providing the towels. Excursions were very good. The room was clean, the shower was really nice with a huge shower head and lots of hot water.

Not a good experience

Six of us spent 1 week at Melia Peninsula and were happy to see the day to leave. One of the couples had been at this resort twice before and had a wonderful experience. This time around they noticed conditions had deteriorated. I have been to Cuba many times before and have never had a bad experience. At this hotel food ran out everyday and was never to be seen again that week. Small portions of meats were put on BBq at a time so you were lucky to get any. constantly out of mojito, Cuba's famou [... read more]s drink and other drinks. Just a few examples of the food situation. Pool was shut down one day for most part of the day to manually clean it. Friends spent 2 days with zero towels and toilet paper even after numerous complaints to front desk. My room had no bathroom door. Must have broken and never fixed. Bar fridge not working. Phones in room also not working. Again just a few examples. Grounds was pretty though. Entertainment was mediocre. I hate to be so negative as I love Cuba and will return but not at this hotel.

Great time

Had a great time,met great people stuff was awesome food could’ve been a little better but the la la carts were awesome . Rooms are nice and clean had some issue with the blow dryer that was fixed the next day

Beautiful resort!

We had an absolutely amazing time last week at Melia Peninsula Varadero resort! It honestly exceeded our expectations, and that’s saying a lot as I’m quite picky. The food wasn’t great but that’s to be expected in Cuba. But everything else was absolutely amazing! Great service; clean and very well kept resort; large rooms; incredible beaches; no bugs; even with lots of guests, nothing ever felt overcrowded; family friendly but even as a couple, we had a lovely time. Great resort for young families

We stayed at this resort as a family of 4, two children aged 5 and 6. This place was really great for their age as the pool was shallow and the water slides were the perfect sizes. The food was okay at the buffet, the a la cartes were very good. Highly recommend the Japanese restaurant, the chefs were great with the kids and food was very flavorful. Good bang for your buck

My family With kids (6,4 and 11 months) really enjoyed our stay at This resort. The kids club always had great activities for the kids to do. There was a variety of shows for kids and adults. The entertainment staff at the beach and pools were very entertaining. The food was good always something for everyone. The a la cartes were really good. My only negative was the pool temperatures were really cold. The kids and adults could only play for a bit before our lips turned blue. Not Impressed!!

The resort was beautiful and very big. The service was extremely poor. There was no greeting when we got there and when checking in the staff weren't to friendly. Our room had roaches in it so I had to request a different room. The second room we got the shower leaked thought the whole room. There was minimal entertainment and music in the resort. The disco was closed the whole time we were there. It took min. 15 min to get a drink at any bar and when you got a drink there was way too much alcoh [... read more]ol in my cup to enjoy it. The food was good and the resort was clean. I feel that they need to have more staff on to cater to people. Beaches are beautiful. I'd think twice about going to this place.

Must Go

This is second time in Cuba. I had great time in Melia Peninsula Varedero. Really nice staff, great food, resonable price and very clean . For sure we will be back. My ten years old son survived without device no problem. You must give a try you don’t regret .

Great resort

Overall great resort! Food is good, but alacarts could have been better! Rooms are clean, shows are great! Friendly stuff! We didn’t have to leave the resort for anything! Will be back again next year!

Wonderful experience

Clean, good food, friendly and respectful staff. I enjoyed my stay here. Of and the massage guy...wonderful job! The location of the hotel is great. The tour guides were excellent and funny . Overall, it was a great experience.

Not what I expected

This hotel is not a 5 star hotel as it claims to be. I was very disappointed from day 1. I have several issues with how the hotel and the grounds are kept up. 1. The area's around the pool and bar needs a new paint job. A lot of the old paint is peeling off and very dirty in some areas. 2. The bridge crossing the pool to get to the bar on the other side is not usable. The boards are lifted up and falling apart. The bridge is blocked off. 3. There is 1 fountain at the front with some fish. The water is COMPLETELY GREEN with algae and smells fishy. 5. I was told I get 7 hrs of free WIFI. I was only able to connect once in 7 days. Not a big deal since I am on vacation and wasn't planning on using the internet. 6. My room wasn't that great. Shower doors didn't close properly. Water ended up on the floor. Lighting was very dim. Had to wait for bulbs to heat up. Closet had only 1 working bulb. Lighting outside of room didn't work. Air conditioner worked great. 7. Bathrooms!!! 2 public bathrooms (men's/women's) by the restaurants didn't have toilet paper, hand soap, and broken hand drier. When we complained we were given shampoo to wash our hands. Men's washroom in the lobby had no hand soap in the handicap stall but had a sink. 8. Beach was great and the water was warm and beautiful. Lots of chairs with someone helping us to get the chairs. 9. Food wasn't that bad. Lots of variety. There was a sign in the front lobby claiming the hotel was 5 stars. Far from it. More like 3 or 3.5. When I pay for a 5 star I expect the best.

Not what we expected!

This resort is certainly not a 4 star.While the beach and water were amazing, the service was non existent. The room was clean, but missing towels, the balcony door didn't have a latch to close/ lock, also we didn't have power in the outlets and it got fixed after several calls and a trip to reception. ( door was not fixed while we stayed) The food was the absolute same every day, not many options, and if you went to eat half hour after the buffet opened, the counters were almost empty. No one [... read more] comes to the tables to offer water or coffee unless you ask for it. The only place we enjoyed in terms of food was the grill by the beach, and the young gentleman was doing a great job making it. The beach bar opens at 11am and its out of drinks by 12.30 They were cleaning the pools by the main buffet and there was a stench for days, from dead fish. The live entertainment in the lobby was one of the few things we really enjoyed. The one highlight of our trip here was a trip to Havana we booked privately and absolutely enjoyed.

Amazing

Before we took our trip we heard a lot of horror stories about Cuba. Best experience is self experience! Beautiful and well maintained resort with amazing and friendly staff. Always helpful. Great room service. Family friendly environment. Food wasn't the best but also not the worst. Always something for everyone. We will definitely come back one day. Good resort overall

Beautiful property- well maintained lawns and beaches. The food was quite good. Children's club quite good and the entertainment was great. Overall a good experience. A few negatives. The first night I checked in, my room had absolutely no hydro - a technician came by 3 times and still no hydro. I was moved the next day to a room located near where my family were staying. There was water on the floor and an effort was made to make sure it didn't happen again, but the toilet needed to [... read more] be fixed not caulked. The hotel chain needs to properly train their technicians (or afford the right supplies so that the job can be done right). I know it's Cuba, but I have never had this experience even at a lesser rated hotel.

Awesome Vacation Destination

First timers in Cuba. My wife, my 11 months old and myself. This place is perfect for a family vacation. Food was good. Only downside is the bed. We got King size but mattress was all springy and uncomfortable.

Will Not Taint Cuba

Just returned home 4 days ago, we stayed at the Melia Peninsula Varadero, this was our 4th trip to Cuba. Love the beaches, love the weather and will return someday. We always took other peoples comments with a grain of salt when it came to food and accommodations because we never really had a problem... until now! nothing lasts forever!!! we had purchased an upgrade (Elegance Club it was called)and not only did we not receive our arrival gift, the only benefit to the upgrade as far as we were co [... read more]ncerned was we got the room we wanted ( what a waist of money)that is until we noticed the toilet was leaking from the bottom all over the floor. That was our first evening there and because it was a late arrival we decided to wait until the morning to report the problem.long story short we were told the not only could it not fixed but they did not have any parts to fix it! They offered us another room, but it had a worse view ( most hotels try to match or better the room) of which I did not want and told them to make sure we had towels for the next 9 nights at the base of the toilet. First day there I ended up that evening with 24 hr. food poisoning of which I can not pin point why, this left my wife Leary for the remainder of the trip of eating any meat. The food for the first time was the same every day and not good at all and the selection was the worst we have ever had. For three days in a row we had no and I mean no running water for showers at the supper time hour, the longest lasting 45 mins. There were a lot of first time things that happened as well for us...unpleasant staff,being overlooked because we did not speak Spanish, no lettuce ,so called life guards trying to sell me excursions every day,Cubans walking the beach selling goods while the guards turned a blind eye,24 hour snack bar with out 24 hour food, snack bar with a terrible method of service leaving people frustrated at the wait for food, told I could only have one can of pop, I could go on but why. despite all that happened to us we still love the beaches and weather and we will go again just not to this hotel or any that is run by the Graviota group

Great resort!

Excellent resort! It was about a 30 min drive from the airport. After asking the room was prepared before the expected time which was helpful due to travelling with an extremely tired toddler. The rooms were kept very clean with daily towels and the fridges restocked. Our room was near the kids pool as requested; large size pool with 2 slides and a shallow and deeper end depth which was great for my 5 and 2.5 year old. The beach was very clean and beautiful! We went on a free catamaran ride included with the resort: the employees were friendly and accommodating to offer a solution to a time that worked better for us. The beach restaurant had great service with a BBQ lunch some days. There were lots of food options at the buffet restaurant; preparing omelettes and pasta to your liking. The ice cream was delicious and the baked goods from bread to donuts :) It was a large resort; lots of walking. We walked about 7 km each day; it would have been helpful if the "car" offered rides continuously throughout the day to and from places like the lobby to the beach etc. Some employees were friendlier than others but to be expected in any place of work. Some of the washrooms didn't have hand soap, toilet paper or paper towels. Overall it was an positive experience.

Good experience for first timers

Very clean grounds...staff are amazing (very friendly, always smiling, attends to your needs)...very nice and spacious rooms (cool a/c, clean towels, running hot/cold water)...rooms were made up well everyday...very nice assortment of restaurants (buffet/speciality)...pool and beach grounds were amazing and always clean...very safe resort...nice assortment of clubs and performers...wonderful beer and pinacolada...overall, a great first time experience

Terrible service don't go

This hotel needs work Broken tiles Rotting bridge closed down Sliding door broken they did not fix for 2 weeks No bench to put suitcases you have to pick them up on bed every time you need something from them. I was to get 14 internet cards with elegance package I bought but after 7 cards they wrote down that I got 14 of them. On last day they held my passport hostage till I brought back our beach towels .
