Great trip, convenient location!

Amazing food experience as all my trips to Mexico have been! Sweet location right beside 5th Avenue! Beach had hurricane damage so not swimmable, service decent, rooms pretty small though, extra annoying time share people but overall great trip!

Incredible Service!! Amazing Resort :)

We cannot say enough positive things about the Gran Porto Real Hotel in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Above-average service, beautiful surroundings, lots to do, tasty/cultural food, nice dining options, very clean!!

Clean and very friendly

Well my friend and I booked a standard room and I have never been put in a room without a window! Huge wooden door small peep hole dark, very dark and you shared your vernada with everyone on that floor!

Wonderful food and service!!!!

We are a family of 5 that recently stay at the Gran Porto Real on the Mayan Riviera and loved every minute!!! We were there over the Christmas Holidays and everyone there made us feel right at home. The staff are extremely courteous and obliging, always looking out for you. Our rooms were very clean. We had two rooms and had trouble trying to open the adjoining door, but staff never gave up until they finally got the right key to open it up, joking with us along the way. The food was well prepar [... read more]ed and well presented with much variety and a 24 hr. snack bar that was well stocked with food, desserts, wine, liquors, coffee and cold pop. This was great for my kids who made numerous midnight snack trips down there. They have a lot of activities and really engage their guests as well as nightly performances of various music from Mexican, mariachi to current music. The only reason why I didn't give it a 5 star is because there was seaweed along the beach portion near the pool area which made it a bit smelly, so we stayed on the other side of the beach which was o.k. They need to clean that up and remove the sand bags that are there then it will be a.o.k. I tip my hat off to our agent Jen who was able to put this trip all together for us on such short notice when no one else could!!! :)

Cleanest all-inclusive that I've ever stayed at.

My husband and I stayed for one week at Gran Porto Real in Playa Del Carmen. We chose this resort because it was so close to the downtown '5th Avenue'. First, I must say that the front desk reception, upon our arrival was organized and quick. We were in our room within 10 minutes of our arrival. We had upgraded to an 'Ocean View' and we more than pleased with the view from our balcony. Our room was 244 and had a nice view of the ocean and Pier at the North side of the resort. I have no idea what the pay scale is at these all-inclusive resorts, nor should it matter to me, but this is the first all-inclusive that I have been to where the staff do NOT hang around waiting for a tip after providing ever small service. We usually do tip after each meal, and provide gratuity to our servers at the pool or bar, but at this resort the genuinely seemed surprised and very appreciative. The staff does not 'hang all over you', but always seemed to be there when you needed them and seem to actually want to assist you with anything that they can. The food at this resort was not the best that I have experienced, but the choices are plentiful and there is always something available that will suit even the pickiest of diners. The servers in the buffet restaurant had even offered to have the kitchen make me something 'special' when they saw that I was avoiding parts of the buffet one evening due to an allergy. I did not request this, they just were attentive enough to notice. The beach is Horrible. You can either walk about 500 yards North of the resort to the other side of the pier where the sister resort is, to find a great swimming beach or a further stroll South just past all the fishing boats has great swimming also. The location of this resort is perfect though. With just a one block walk, you will find yourself in the center of 5th Avenue with your choice of many restaurants, bars, cantinas, salons and both Artisan stalls and high-end shops. We did not use any of the services provided at the Spa as the prices were more than 3x the costs of the exact same services provided on 5th Avenue. I would definitely recommend this resort and happily rebook here.

Ok resort

there was no air conditing in the hotel. the beach was far fr you to go into the water and dirty. front desk people kept bothering us to buy stuff. the service the people were very nice and the hotel was clean. the pool was kelp clean and bar tenders were very nice. very close to 5th street something to do at night. busy and entertaining. nothing for little babies to do or swim. not a childrens environment.

Mostly great

The property, staff location and food were all average to great!!! What turned us off was upon arrival we were practically forced to transfer to the upgrade hotel across the street for 2 days. Found out later many others were moved too! Excuse for us; no lock on door. Made it seem like they were doing us a big favour. In fact there not; we have only a few days and hours of vacation and we lost in total 7 hours - they did this to 6-8 other couples we know of that week! Up selling?!

Great vacation

Downtown Playa Del Carmen, near shopping, entertainment and restaurants. Chose an oceanfront room that was beautiful and spacious. Hotel staff are wonderful. 2 disappointments: the beach directly in front of the hotel and the hotel food.

Would definitely return to the Gran Porto Real!

Vacationed at GPR in April 2013. When we arrived the room category that we paid for was not available so we were upgraded. We loved the room but chose not to pay extra for the upgrade so we're moved the next day. Our new room was on the street side of the resort. We actually liked watching the activity on the street. The standard room was clean and comfortable with close access to the gym. The gym was small and more than adequate. Most times we would walk over the the GPR's sister resort for a swim. There were always plenty of chairs and shade. And if you like to walk the beach you could walk for hours. The food was excellent. We like buffet dining more than al la carte. My husband never tired of the food. Our sister and brother in law stayed at The Royal, the 5 star sister resort of GPR. We were able to take a short tour of their facilities and will try to visit there in the future. It was beautiful and offered many more amenities. The service was excellent. The staff always greeted us and made us feel special.
