My new #1 choice in all inclusive resorts!!!!

This Barcelo Maya complex is outstanding in every way. We arrived to discover that there was only one bed in the room for my sister and I. Now we haven't shared a bed since we were kids and now we are seniors! Without hesitation we were moved from the Colonial which was full to the Tropical and to a room with 2 beds on the ground floor and close to the front of the complex and the pools. We never felt crowded, never had trouble getting a lounge chair by the pool or beach, never had to wait in line for our meals which were very well done and lots of variety. The pools are huge and scattered with fountains and bridges. There is a lap pool for those who wish to swim laps, childrens' areas that keep the kids well occupied and generally away from the adults in the regular pools. Don't get me wrong, I love kids, but I do like my peace and relaxation on vacation. The beach is a little rocky in some places, but wearing water shoes over comes that issue and the water is warm and crystal clear. It's a nice beach to walk. There is an open top double decker bus that travels around to each resort lobby to get you to your ala carte restaurants or just takes you for a nice ride to the other resorts. The Mexican Market is massive and the Mall is just right. There is something for everyone at The Barcelo, even a bowling alley! I am definitely looking forward to an other visit to this resort. Stay at one and play at 4,5 or 6!

ALL FACILITIES ARE WELL MAINTAINED WITH FRIENDLY STAFF THE POOLS ARE NICE AND WARM, THE BEACH IS NICE BUT ROCKY, FOOD IS GOOD AND THERE ARE MANY ACTIVITIES TO DO ON THE RESORT, YOU CAN ALSO BOOK MANY TRIPS FORM THE RESORT TO VISIT SITE OUTSIDE, THERE IS ALSO A MALL IN THE RESORT TO SHOP

Amazing resort

Excellent place to spend time with your family, we loved everything about this hotel, the food was so good, the service at the restaurant was amazing. Every night they had a different kind of shows. The beach and pools were good too, my kids loved being threre, plus they had waterpark for smallers kids with slides. Overall we had an amazing experience at this resort plus we fell in love with Mexico 😉

Amazing resort

Check in took a very long time very frustrating to wait after a long flight. The resort was very clean and staff was helpful. Food was excellent. The beach was very rocky. Calls for the bus was not very efficient had to wait 1 hour more for the scheduled bus time. We wanted to extend and the process was not easy nor cheap.

Great resort!

Amazing time at Barcelo Colonial in Maya Riviera. . So cool to have access to other Barcelo properties. Food was amazing. So much to see and do. First time in Mexico would definitely go back. Miss it already! Thank you Karol C for everything!! 😁

Wonderful Resort

We enjoyed every minute of staying at this resort. The customer service was great and the hotel was very clean and well-maintained. The food was very good and had good variety. We could try four of the restaurants and all of them were great.

Good stay beautiful resort

We have been to this hotel a few times before. It’s an absolutely large and beautiful resort . The grounds are clean,so lush and tropical .. pools are huge and amazing.. beach is huge rocky in places but if you find the right area sandy and beautiful The bad: This resort for July was over capacity I would say.. very crowded with large families and wedding groups. This is usually a slower time for them but because of COVID everyone is travelling . They did do their best to provide excellent s [... read more]ervice but there were line up for buffet Another con was the food.. so hard to get a restaurant reservation and at a decent time Buffet was ok.you can find something to eat but same dishes every day after 3 days it was getting hard to find something I wanted to eat I may go back to adults only to try. I’ll stick to other hotels where a la cartes are no reservation and every night for better food

First full family vacation

Overall we love the Barcelo (stayed at the other ones). This was out first stay at the colonial and it was overall great. The beds and noise were both awful though. Not one good sleep was had! We had asked for rooms close together and they had us at opposite ends of the resort. The first room at night was right by a stairwell and the noise at night from party goers was just awful. First two nights were not great and we asked to switch rooms due to the noise. The second room was a little b [... read more]it more quiet but the bed was nightmarish, sunken and lumpy (same with our first room). We also had a constant flow of ants on the TV cabinet. Overall the vacation was passable but we will not be going back. On top of the hotel, Air Transat was the worst. The reps knew nothing and gave us wrong information on two separate occasions. She even booked the wrong pickup area for an excusion!

Great family resort!!

We just got back from a fabulous week with our grandkids! There is something to do for everyone! The rooms are spotless and cleaned daily. The pools are amazing and the water park for the kids was a favourite! We loved the fact that sailing and paddleboards were included! It was fabulous snorkeling off the beach! We even saw a Sea Turtle! We would definately return. Oh....the Buffet was pretty good. I woukd not recommend the Speciality Seafood Restaurant. Disgusting. Amazing resort

Room was great Food was very good Pool was beautiful Restaurants were fabulous Waitresses were very good at getting our drinks by the pool Beds were very comfortable Beach was good when there was no wind Staff was excellent all around

Ok Resort

Resort was clean, breach was nice. I had to go to the front desk at least 5 time for a new key card. Some staff were awesome, but some were just "there". Buffett, pretty good service, Jose was awesome during the suppertime seating. Buffet food was the same pretty much every night, no theme nights, just pasta, thin steak, chicken and pork, served the same each night. They did have a rotiserie chicken that was really good!! The a la cartes, hard to get a decent time we had 2 at 5:30 and the other  [... read more]was 9pm. The food was ok. Only 2 serves at the beech bar, ment for a long wait some days. The main lounge out front.....very dated. I've been to a number of Barcello properties and they were great, this one was not great, but it wasn't 4.5stars in my opinion. The Beach Buffet, we had a family of 9 the Manager would not allow us to sit together 'Max 8" he said. we would have been ok with this if he could have explained why...he could not. Every other place we ate on the resort...no issue, they always made it work, but we had to fight every day with that guy, otherwise 2 kids would have to eat at their own table. It made no sense why this was only happening at the one buffet. oh, and the buffet was usually less than half full, this really pissed us off, day after day.

Amazing Resort

This was our 2nd time at the Barcelo Colonial and enjoyed every minute of it. It is a beautiful resort and the grounds are very well taken care of. The workers work very hard to make this happen. Barcelo is very family friendly and have lots of stuff for kids. They had a mask mandate of wearing your mask to all buffets, ala carts, going inside shops or any indoor spaces which made us very happy to see. It has everything you will need here without leaving the resort from swimming with turtles, seeing fish on the reef and much more. For an extra cost you can go bowling, zip lining and to the flow rider. We are already planning our 3rd trip back next year. Thank you

Great family spot

This hotel was great for our young family with lots to do for two kids - 2 and 4 years. It was a large resort and we could never have done it all. Beach was the highlight for the kids. Food was good at buffets. Disappointed we could only get one a la cart reservation at a ‘decent’ dinner time - we went to make reservations as soon as we arrived and could only get 9:30pm options. Hotel was almost fully booked but not staff accordingly. Not service in the beach at all. Our only other complaint - and not sure if this was COVID or just the resort rule - you were unable to take food from the ‘beach grille’ to the beach or pool side so we had to pack up our kids for a sit down lunch every day which was tough for them. Overall great stay and we will try it again.

Excellent resort

Beautiful site. Good service. Clean room. Great food. Lots of activities on site. The beach could have a little more sand on it and it’s better to bring water shoes if you want to do more intensive water sports (rocks in water).

Clean resort

Just returned home from a 14 night stay at the Barcelona Colonial. First and foremost, the resort and amenities are spotless ! Our lovely cleaning lady (Wilma) was amazing, and always left little towel statues to surprise us. The friendly staff are continually cleaning and reinforcing masks to enter the buffet as well as during plating. The evening entertainment at the theatre is very well done, however there is music lacking (nonexistent) in the lobby bar as well as around the pool. The Be [... read more]ach….TERRIBLE ! Not a resort if your a lover of the beach. Very rocky in the water with only a few spots to enter safely. The resort itself, there is lots to see and do with the mall, bowling, hockey rink, mini golf, wave runner, zip lining, parasailing and the market. The resort was a typical North American Resort lacking Mexican Vibes.

Beautiful and clean .

We totally enjoyed our stay . Will come back for sure . Cleanliness was amazing . Grounds kept very well .Restaurants were excellent . Food excellent . Buffet excellent . Pool bars were very good , Pools were very clean. Bravo Barcello. We totally enjoyed our stay . Special thanks to our Trip Central agent Karol who recommended we return to Barcello Maya after 8 yrs. of going else where . We loved it !

Wonderful hotel with a few Issues

Overall the Barcelo Maya Colonial is located in a beautiful spot with wonderful beaches and fantastic pools! The food was great and the staff were all fabulous. However, there were a number of disappointments. We booked a premium ocean view suite and when we checked in we were sent to a side office and the check-in turned into a bit of a nightmare. It was busy and there was one person working and instead of a simple check-in, it turned into a 2 hour wait. We did receive our keys eventually. [... read more] Given we had a premium suite we kind of expected....an ocean view but the view we had was of the kids water park. Our room was on the ground level right outside the waterpark which is a tad noisy. When we asked for the ocean view suite we paid for we were told there was nothing available. Great, so the room was nice but the TV didn't work and took a while to address and then the safe wouldn't open after we had locked all our documents and cash in it. Both issues were eventually resolved. We also soon discovered that guests of the hotel would place towels on the lounge chairs around the pool or beach area to reserve their chairs. When we went to sit by the pool there were no available chairs, just a bunch of empty chairs with towels on them. We had to get up each day at 5 AM to find an empty chair and put a towel on them to "reserve them" for our use. In many cases the reserved chairs were never used at all. Lastly, we had an early flight and tried to arrange for breakfast from room service and we were told that, although the menu states breakfast starts at 6:30 AM, breakfast was not available at 6:30 AM but I could order a club sandwich, which has toast and bacon on it. I should also mention the hotels Covid practices were very good. All the staff wore masks as did most of the guests when in the dining areas. I felt quite safe from a Covid perspective. Anyway, it was a wonderful location but I won't be going back

Amazing Large Resort

The resort is huge. The grounds have large level paved walkways to get around. The gardens are so tranquil when walking through them. It has something to offer everyone of all ages and needs. So many kids pools, pool bars, eating areas, etc. El a carte dining can be good to excellent depending on what you order. The buffet has a great variety of items. So much to explore in the resort. Our son and his fiancé were reviewing wedding options to get married here. Still to be determined.

First all-inclusive experience

Love this resort! Food was great and service was excellent. Nice room with a comfortable king bed. Will be booking again in the future. I look forward to when there are no Covid restrictions and more entertainment options will be available to experience

Excellent resort

The resort was very clean and tidy, the grounds, the room, restaurants, lobby everything was always spotless. Employees were always so friendly and ready to help with whatever you need. The food was amazing as well as the entertainment.
