Wonderful Resort!!!

Our 4th stay at Catalonia Royal, still as good as first time. Hotel is beautiful and very clean. The staff was all very helpful and very friendly. Food was excellent, our favorites are SeaBlue and CataTapas. Excellent !! The Italian, Japaneese and Steak house were also very enjoyable(on the Catalonia side). We will be back.

Very clean resort

loved the resort when we arrived,not impressed with sunwing airlines will not be taking them again. a beautiful resort the restaurants are good the best is thalassa,the staff are very attentive and always smiling.forget the Italian terrible staff no smiles no organization.unless you ask for things like water or wine you won't see them. the ability to use the family side of the resort was great , the service on that side was better. the beach yes there was lots of seaweed but the staff did a gre [... read more]at job in cleaning the beach,the waiters and waitress were great on the beach never had to track down anyone. would I recommend this resort,yes I would the staff have to change in some restaurants.you cant beat the beach or the water,warm after lunch and you can walk out into the ocean for a mile a long sand bar.

Great Holiday

Overall, Catalonia Royal was great. The grounds are well kept.The majority of the staffs are amazing. I do however was very disappointed in the staff at the Italian. The food was excellent, but the staff made you feel they did not want you there. They did not smile, it seems they did not want to be working there. I do however have to call out the following staff from the Thalassa restaurant, Andrea, Jean, Angelina and Lorenzo, were absolutely amazing. Great vacation

My daughter and I stayed for 8 nights. We had a wonderful time. Staff was really nice, room very clean. We stayed in the royal section and really took advantage of the restaurants. Tasted most of the items on the menu as we shared a lot of dishes. It is a very quiet spot and you just have to cross over to the other section for the "action". Weather wasn't the greatest but we made use of all the nooks around the resort.

Nice,quiet and very clean resort

This resort was very nice “adults only” which made it a nice quiet resort. The grounds were maintained beautifully, the pools and pool areas were always cleaned. The bar service around the pool area was perfect and this kept the area free of glasses as they were continually coming around to pick them up. This is a very quiet resort so if you are looking for a relaxing resort this is for you. All of the Restaurants were fabulous at the Royal and not having to make a reservation was a bonus.  [... read more]The Japanese restaurant at the adjoining Catalonia was not worth the wait. The food was horrible and very salty. There were a few days without hot water in the shower but regardless the rooms were great. The staff were amazing at the restaurants and bars. Overall good vacation.

Beautiful resort

staff were warm and inviting. food was good. environment was well maintained, breath taking nature scene, amazing room service. there is always activities to do around the hotel. I would very much recommend this.

Great getaway

We were looking for a quiet getaway. This resort delivered. Sure there were the usual things to do; fitness classes in the pool, games on the beach and different evening activities and shows. We never got bored. We enjoyed walking the property both the adult and family sides and the beach was nice to walk on. If you are looking to slow down from a hectic life, this is a great place. The staff is very friendly and polite. We stayed in the privilege suites and found our room spacious, clean and comfortable. There are plenty of drinks to try at one of the many bars. We also enjoyed the Juice bar. I would definitely consider going back.

Awesome staff and experience!

I was thoroughly impressed with this resort and really enjoyed our stay. Couple of small blips on the radar (the massage was over priced and not great - also...i thought 50 USD for use of a golf cart was a bit much - especially when I was playing the course by myself in 2 hours or less) ... but other than those two minor complaints....I could not have been more impressed. Good Value

This is an older resort (circa 2005) and it shows but it is well maintained. Everything regarding the resort was great except the nightly entertainment. The overall rating of 4+ is appropriate. Getting through the Punta Cana airport is pure hell. We won't go back because of it.

Awesome!

The hotel and grounds were absolutely beautiful! We ate at the buffets and three of the a la carte restaurants and found the food to be very good, no complaints there. Rooms were spacious and clean though a little dated. Staff were friendly and very accommodating. The only issue we had was with the 18 hole golf course. We had trouble booking morning tee times for a twosome - even though the tee sheet was wide open and next to nobody out on the course. Finally on the 3rd day the golf club e [... read more]mployee told us they do not allow twosomes out before 12:30, really?!! My husband and I have traveled to many carribean golf resorts and have never encountered such an issue. Had to argue with the staff as no one had informed of us this rule when we booked our trip. Eventually it all worked out and we were allowed to play morning rounds on our last 2 days. So beware - if you're a twosome hoping to play morning rounds of golf you may encounter some push back.

Good place to visit.

This was our second visit. The resort is very nice, and they had renovated Thalassa, added a Japanese restaurant and bar outside of the main building. Our room was in Villa 36, facing the pool, same as the previous trip, which I loved, as we had the morning sun, pool and had a partial ocean view...loved it!! All the staff were amazing! Edward in the Piano Bar was amazing! Maria in the Beach Bar was wonderful. Overall, ALL the staff were fantastic and very helpful, they made our trip very pleasant. Breakfast selections at the buffet in Thalassa were good but not as extensive as on the family side, definitely worth going over to the other side. ;) We were disappointed this time around because on our last trip, on Thursday, there was a seafood buffet in Thalassa, which included lobster. When we checked in, we asked if that was still part of the menu and were told it was. When we went in for dinner, we were totally disappointed with the selections, no lobster and selections were dismal. Another disappointment was at the pool side bar restaurant, fresh garlic grouper was a choice, I ordered it and was excited as I love fresh grouper, it wasn't grouper, not sure what it was, my husband says bass or tilapia. :S BUT, if you're a lamb and/ or duck lover, OMG, in Thalassa, they have lamb shank and duck breast that is out of this world!!! Having the option of dining at the family side of this resort, we didn't utilize that option as we were very happy dining in Thalassa. These were our experiences and I know there were better and worse ones, everyone is different. Hope they are helpful, but you have to experience it yourself.

Fully complete resort

The resort is well managed. The room was cleaned well and cleaning staff was friendly. The pool and pool area was clean. The bar services were properly maintained. All staff were able to answer questions and were always wanting to assist.

Beautiful Punta Cana

Black ocean, beautiful resort

Good: beautiful and peaceful, food, cat sailing, swimming, snorkeling, ambience around pools, lots of sun, beautifully groomed flowers and shrubs and lawns, evening music, natural fruit drinks, no crowds, fast service in restaurants, clean rooms, only 4 mosquitos over 1 week. Bad: ocean colored black, some food, language barrier with staff Ocean was 80% colored black and grey with 20% green spots . It was Very disappointing how many weeds there were in the ocean. By comparison the ocean at R [... read more]io palace Macao was mostly a beautiful green color. Staff removed large amounts of sea weed from beach every day. If beach/ocean view is your most important criteria you won't like this place; otherwise it was a very beautiful resort. Food, depends on what you choose some was poor (pork was always tougher than leather, steak at steak house in family resort next door) and some food was excellent (salmon, chicken, pizza, vegetables, fruit). Natural fruit drinks made on beach, ma loo drink is made from pineapple, banana, oranges and ice; was delicious. Swimming was good but the area you can swim in was small due to so many weeds, but there were no waves so you could swim. Adults only resort was peaceful with small crowds. By comparison the family resort beside us was very crowded and noisy. Snorkeling was good (don't expect coral reefs that you see on tv) due to very low waves, abundant weeds and rocks, there was living coral (20% alive) though with 1 star fish, 1 conch shell, sea urchins, lots of small and large colorful fish. Cat Sailing can be done every day since the water is more flat for a much larger distance off shore and there is always plenty of wind. There are lots of obstructions in the ocean which make cat sailing more difficult but you can sail right over most of the rocks and shallow areas since the rudder pops up and you just push the rudder back down quickly and continue sailing. Some hidden rocks are dangerous but your fine if you watch for them. By comparison Rio palace Macao had such strong winds and waves you could only sail half of the days. As you sail at least 1km away you see more areas of green water and less black ocean.

Great Vacation

We stayed in the exclusive suite with a pool. The resort is everything it says it is. If you are looking for a quiet getaway in a smaller adults only resort with great food, great drinks, great hospitality, manicured grounds, a quiet pool, a busy pool with swim up bar, a la carte meals without reservations and top notch nightly entertainment during dinner, this is the resort to go to. We spoke to several people that have been to Punta Cana several times and for the money this was the best resort they have been to. If you are looking for a party resort, lots of people, daily entertainment, a bunch of activities and buffets that you can walk into anytime in your bathing suit and t-shirt, this resort is not for you.

An older resort and it shows

We changed rooms twice the night we arrived, and again the first day. The plumbing in the first two rooms were unacceptable and the second room also had a vile odour that made breathing very difficult. The third move was ok but certainly nothing we were led to believe we were paying for. The paint and plaster were pealing, the finish on the bathroom mirrors was coming off. The second room had dried up old toothpaste hanging under the shelf and toilet seats were offset and toilet didn't stop runn [... read more]ing. There were jacuzzis in each room that was nice but the bathrobes looked like something you would find in a hospital to cover your gown. That being said, the restaurants were good, the Rodeo Steak House was exceptional. The staff were ALL very nice and generally spoke decent English.

Very Good Resort!

The beach was very good, not crowded. Enjoyed the crepes and fresh fruit on skewers. The grounds were very well maintained! The. 9 hole golf course was amazing. Challenging and was quite picturesque! We played the course several times.

Fantastic!

Everything was just wonderful - the food, the staff, the amenities, the friends we met. Was just lovely! Going back next year. Can't wait. Only thing I can complain about is having to go home :-(((

Excellent Resort

Beautiful property for adults only. Well-managed resort with courteous staff. The rooms are slightly dated but generally clean and the property is well-maintained with beautiful grounds. The food is good with ample choice. There is a very nice open-air bar in the pool area with sofa seating that gives onto a small stage where in the evening they play live mellow music. The beach is very nice and there is the added suprise of a pristine sandbar that you can walk for several hundred feet out into  [... read more]the ocean without being more than waist-deep : the water there is crystal clear. If you're single this resort is likely to be too subdued for you, unless you're looking to relax in peace. But for couples or groups who want value at a solid 4-Star then I fully endorse this all-inclusive.

Wonderful vacation

This was our third trip to Catalonia. Service, food and rooms were very good. Beach and pools are very inviting and very well kept. Staff are always very helpful and friendly. Enjoyed dining at many restaurants, steak house, Italian and Japanese were very good..Sea Blue for lunch is great. Maid service was amazing, room always clean and fridge kept full. Lovely towel art and flowers were really nice. We will return.
