Hit and miss

We stayed at Memories from April 17-24. Firstly the majority of the staff were amazing. Our room was in need of some repair but nothing that we could not live with, our housekeeper kept us entertained each day with her towel art. The grounds are also in need of some repair but the grounds crew do their best to keep it looking presentable. Obviously our main complaint was the food and I know you do not go to Cuba for the food but I have travelled to Cuba several times and this resort was not up t [... read more]o par. Lack of food items offered in the smaller areas, the Mexican alacarte is not worth your time unless you want to head to the buffet when you finish, the lunch area at pool number 1 we waited over an hour for our lunch and then they told us they lost our order??? The pools were clean although pool #2 that has the cave smells like a sess pool (in the cave). We loved the beach it was clean and the water was amazing. Evening entertainment was a hit and miss as well internet is only available in the front foyer and only if you purchase an internet card (only 1 paso). I recommend you spend the extra money and go with the Diamond Club this gives you a few extra perks. As well head into Varadero to the Beatles restaurant/bar and plan to stay for the evening entertainment it starts at 9:30pm. Beside the Beatles restaurant there is a park, there is an italian restaurant in this park that by far has the best italian food going, stop in for dinner. We will travel to Cuba again, but there are soooo many resort options that I try another resort.

Amazing Trip!!!

This was our first trip to Memories Varadero. Overall it was a great experience a few minor flaws but nothing that affected our overall trip. The service in a few places needs some improvement often we were told they had run out of items but seen other people with those items. We had a renovated room so we had no complaints there. Fantastic resort

This is resort is huge ! Everyday they have carts to drive you from the lobby to anywhere on the resort, the staff was incredible especially Amaury,Amed&Juan(baggage and cart)Soe,Ailen,Yenisleidy, Thalia(lobby) Arlette (diamond club dining area) and I cannot remember her name but she makes omelettes in the morning and is always singing and being amazing)

Rundown resort in serious need of repair

I’ve travelled to Cuba over 17 times now. I know what to expect. People are amazing and the food is normally mediocre at best. Usually, the accommodations are clean and secure. I have been to this resort in particular four times. I’ve returned because I’ve always had a good experience at this resort This time the accommodation was ridiculous. I will list the problems. We had a total of five rooms for 11 people, Two of the rooms had to be changed immediately because one room had [... read more] so much water damage and black mould that it was unbearable. The other room, the bed was infested with ants. We had no problem changing rooms in fact they did not even ask us why… One can only assume that this is such a common practice there that they no longer bother to ask. One of the rooms the safe did not work, At least four of the rooms had no locks on the sliding doors. Another room, there was no control over the air conditioning One of the rooms had no furniture My room in particular had a broken toilet… A sliding door that would not lock and actually would not close all of the way… No light fixture… No place to sit down… A TV that did not work… And I safe that did not work… The spare blankets in the closet smelled so bad that I would have to assume that they had not been washed in over a year The furniture in the buffet was worn and uncomfortable .... they were running out of cups and in fact one of the bars would not allow us to come in and get a drink using their plastic disposable cups if we did not stay in the area to drink it The staff in the buffet was amazing and there was several good servers in the main lobby bar area… Here’s the thing that really amaze me though usually in Cuba the customer service is incredible but for whatever reason at this resort we had several bad experiences with staff they were ignorant sarcastic and sometimes extremely rude… apparently they were unaware of that one of the members of our group was fluent in Spanish !

9th time there and they never disappoint!!

As always every time we go to Memories it is just like coming home. The staff are so very friendly and will go above and beyond to help you! A special thanks to Arletti and Amari for all their help ! Will definitely keep coming back to this wonderful resort!

Very entertaining resort

The hotel lobby was great. Not enough selection of food in smaller restaurants and food wasn’t very good Beach was amazing Staff was so entertaining and so friendly and kind. My room needed to be fixed up. Too old. The shower head has no place to be hung My phone didn’t work and when I told them about it they said they would check it out but didn’t. Weather and Beaches were nice

Positive: weather, beaches, staff, quite pool Negative: rooms, shower, buffet, party pool/cave This resort is in the process of a Reno. It requires a ton. The food at the beach bbq is good. Only place I can stomach. The resort has potential to be great.

Might not come back

Resort was gorgeous for not a luxury hotel in Cuba. Exactly what you expect, great weather, beaches but the food was bad, as you expect with Cuba. However the toilets not flushing and the golf cart drivers who awkwardly wanted tips from you AND last but not least, the poor customer service!! Absolutely slow service at the lobby and sure you can tip them but when a resort is as big as this one you can’t tip every single bartender. Not what we expected

First impressions of the hotel weren’t the greatest. Staff at the front desk seemed irritated that we were Diamond Club guests (which really didn’t effect them at all - other than the welcome drink we were supposed to have upon arrival but never received. No big deal.) The room we had was basic and had some minor issues - toilet didn’t flush well, the shower leaked over the side resulting in a pool on the floor, door handle on the patio was broken and the track was bent so it was difficult [... read more] to open and close. But the bed was super comfy and very spacious. The food was really good and quite comparable to other places we’ve been in Mexico - I’d even say I enjoyed it better as nothing made my stomach queasy! Grounds were well kept, other than the cigarette butts all over the beach - but we blame disrespectful guests for this downfall. Beach was otherwise amazing, lots of shaded areas. We didn’t use the pools but there were always plenty of loungers to choose from and again, no shortage of shade. The service at this resort was terrible. By far the worst we’ve ever experienced. Took 45 minutes one day at the snack bar for anyone to even walk by our table and we even had to stop them so we could ask for water and place an order for food. Upon doing this the staff gave us attitude. Most other days we would wait about 10-15 minutes before anyone would come by. Most meals at the buffet we would almost be finished our food before anyone would come by and offer water or other beverage options (at this point we would have been sitting for over 30 minutes). Bar service was good and the drinks were very adequately made - only complaint here was the service on the beach. Diamond club guests have their own section of the beach with bar service provided to you but we only had service 2 out of 7 days. Overall, we were not impressed with this resort. Looks like a 3+ star from the outside, but inside it’s more like a 2 star. We will not be going back.

Beautiful Resort

The grounds were beautiful & the rooms were also nice. The resort is large so be prepared for some walking. We stayed in a renovated room close to the beach. The lack of variety in the buffet restaurant was disappointing. Food was okay. The staff were very friendly. Our waitresses in the buffet restaurant were more than amazing. So friendly & always greeting you with a big smile. They were genuinely glad to see us. We made such a connection with them. Great resort!!

Well kept! Dining area staff were the best I’ve experienced in 8 trips to Cuba!! Food was the same every time! Beach and pool area were awesome! Room was cleaned well every day! Special shout out to dining room staff! Arlynes, Melisa, sondra and others!! They really made our vacation special for us!!

Cuban Retreat

This was our second trip to Cuba with the kids (11 & 9). Her are our thoughts: Room: * We were surprised by bunk beds, but they were great! Gave a small room a lot more space. * The room itself was in need of a little repair and love, but really it was only a place to change and sleep. The bed was horrible, lumpy and springs left me tired in the morning, but nothing a lazy morning poolside or at the beach couldn't fix. * We had trouble with the AC. The deck door had to be closed just so  [... read more]in order to activate the AC. It took us 3 days to realize it, and it was REALLY sensitive. I couldn't get it to work ever. Hubby had more luck. It'd get bumped, then we'd have to start again. Food: * The buffet was fine. The fish was amazing. Noone goes to Cuba expecting amazing food, but we were happy. * My daughter has Celiac. We brought our own bread, muffins and snacks for her. It was hard to get an answer as to whether food had wheat or not. We got by, she did ok on rice, chicken, veggies and fruit. * We didn't go to the a la cartes, but heard nothing but excellent reviews! Beach: * Beautiful. Always a beach chair. Nothing bad to say! Pools: * The girls loved the pools. We discovered the Quiet pool later in our stay, it was GREAT! No loud music, dancing, aerobics, or anything,,, just a huge pool with lots of seating. * The pools did get murky. Spilled drinks, plastic cups, etc. We saw them trying to clean it up, but seemed a lost cause. There was a dead bird one day. That was the last day we went in the activity pool. Ew. I mentioned it to staff, but it was a little kid was the one who took it out. Again, ew. * We never had problems with swapping out our towels for the pool or the beach. Staff: * We asked for help with the AC, and they sent someone over within 10 minutes at 9pm to help. * Rooms were always done up early. with fresh towels, the housekeeper was sweet. * All staff were friendly and ready to help. When I thought I'd lost my camera and had a near panic attack, the girl cleaning the floors and one lady selling at a little stall with postcards both came running to help. (I found it, thank goodness!!) * The Lobby Bar knew my coffee order every morning, and it was PERFECT! * Bartenders got to know our drinks, and always had a smile! Al in all a great value for the money.

Amazing resort

Everything about this resort was amazing. I would definitely recommend this resort and go again. The people there were friendly and professional. I felt very welcome and comfortable. I had an amazing and unforgettable experience.

Great family vacation

Was our 2nd visit to memories varadero and loved it, beautiful resort and friendly staff..the rooms have been renovated sense the last time we visited 3 years ago. We will be back again soon, hopefully next March break again 😁

Great resort

It was a great resort very kid friendly. Entertainment was amazing every night Be sure to know your way around. Not alot of info is given to u when u arrive . Go to orientation. Rooms were okay we stayed in gardenview room. Lots of mosquitos and ants. Lots of food options but good was just okay. Overall great experience. Beach was amazing. Staff very friendly

Love this resort!

Love this resort! It’s big so a lot of walking is being done but the whole resort is amazing ... staff very friendly... food is decent, and resort is picturesque! Service is a little slow but when I’m on vacation... I’m not in a big rush anyways! I will definitely return to this resort!

Amazing welcome on our return

We were apprehensive about going back to a place where we hadn’t been for three years. However the treatment we got was like royalty. We were invited to a dinner for repeat diamond guests and served a lobster and steak dinner complete with private entertainment. They asked us to fill out a questionnaire and just about every concern we listed was addressed before we left. We were also treated to a special dinner for diamonds club members as well. Each one very well done We got diamond club [... read more] superior room and were not disappointed. It was newly renovated and had a bottle of rum thrown in which was nice for a quiet drink. We requested close to the beach and got # 31. Perfect location since we spent most of our day at the beach. The thing to remember is that everything else is far away if you have mobility issues which I did. However we loved our location and worked through it. Most of the cart drivers were very accommodating. One of our complaints was the absence of breakfast at the beach grill and within 24 hrs it was up and running again. Probably coincidence.. Our major complaint was the rudeness at the snack bar both during the day and evening. We understood that these people take a lot of abuse from regular users but when we tried using the facility they never had what we requested while catering the same order to others who came in after us. Definitely need improvement there. The cleaning staff was amazing and so was the stall at the beach bar It was just like going back home but with royal treatment Thinking of going back and taking the whole family for a second time; we had taken them all three years ago and they just loved it. We missed Leo but his replacement is the concierge and is a very nice young gentleman who is very caring and was everywhere trying to accommodate everyone with everything. I can’t remember his name but he certainly deserves recognition. Enjoyed every minute of our stay.

Went downhill!

We stayed here 3 years ago and loved this resort. This trip, it was the worst resort I have ever been to. Resort had minimal staff, regularly ran out of cups, beer, rum and tequila. The food was TERRIBLE, the snack bar had burgers with no bun and spaghetti that’s it. The room was musty, damp and run down. The entertainment was good and the staff you seen were amazing. This resort should not even be a 3.5 star it should be shutdown and overhauled.

Resort needs a make over , beautiful beach

Resort needs a make over , pools and beach are phenomenal, food was terrible, they kept running out of cups at bars , and plates at cafeteria. Resort staff were great ,very friendly, the first room we got was covered in bugs and smelled really musky, asked for another room on second floor it was better, beach chairs were mostly all broken if you could find one

Acceptable

This resort is an acceptable place, only lost power 3 times, and after day 4 we finally got hot water ! Yay! And the only ran out of cups and bread on day 4 ! Service was great when u could find someone to assist you!
