A week at Club Los Delfines

It was truly a wonderful week at Club Los Delfines. We stayed at the "Colonial" section which is right on the beautiful Beach with a nice view from the patio. This section also includes the restaurant, and the main Bar .I must say the food was not the best of variety and taste, however I took my "Hot sauce" with me, and there was always "something" to satisfy one's appetite. The room we stayed in was big and clean with a terrific window view. There were also two beds one King size, and a medium [... read more] size one. The only complaint about the room was it needed painting. The walls had a bit of mold, and this could easily be the most beautiful room if painted. The guest and staff were friendly especially the security.A big shout out to AMADO and HIRAN who were so helpful and spoke English very well. I would definitely stay at this hotel again, even the same room, after a good coat of paint The trip was worth it in every way for the price we paid. Thanks Heather for booking us such a wonderful trip.

Love the Resort

My wife and myself used this resort last February/16 We had such a good time we went again this November for another two weeks and enjoyed it again. Staff are first class nothing to much trouble for their guests. Minutes walk to the beach with white sands and crystal clear Ocean. A Lobby bar small café by the pool with alchohol and food very impressed with the Hotel setup. The food is different to Canadian foods but it is good food and hey when in Rome do as the Romans do right.

Good, cliean, small

real Cuban experience, old unique hotel, oceanfront rooms are very large basic rooms, great amazing view, staff are amazing, friendly. resort is very old but clean, location is right downtown, walk to everything.....shopping, bars, resturants, .....food is very repetitive, very bland but didn't go to cuba for the food, beach is the best

Great location

I thought that this hotel has a lot of potential but was very poorly maintained. The list would be too long.....broken toilet seats, missing light fixtures, and some days the housekeepers did not even change the sheets.... Some of the outside staff just sat around all day instead of picking up the cigarette butts, old cups and glasses, etc. It would be very easy for this hotel to be special if management encouraged the staff to excell. 4 days was long enough!

We went for a 4 day get away on Sept 18/16. I read a few reviews but thought how bad can it be for 4 days. The resort is very tired and in need of a total renovation. The food is terrible and I am not a fussy eater. The buffet was the same for lunch and dinner only the protein changed not to mention it was only warm not hot. Dinner service was not available until 7pm this is too late for people with children. After eating the same food every meal I was looking forward to coming home. I can ge [... read more]nerally eat from the pasta station but the only choice you were given was between 2 noodles and 2 sauces. It was not like any resort I have been to in the past where you get the option to add items to your pasta. The omlette station was slightly better for breakfast but only marginally. The restaurant was the ONLY place we received good service but that's only because we are generous tippers. As an English speaking person we were definitely a minority at this resort. The hotel was full of Spanish or French speaking customers and unless you spoke either of these languages the staff had no interest in you. It didnt make any difference if you tipped at the bar because your service didn't improve, the Cuban customer always got first priority even if you were there first. I asked the bartender to make me the same drink he just made for the previous patron and was told he didn't have anymore glasses but watched him make the exact drink I had requested for another patron when I left. I'm not sure if they were just disengaged or just didn't care. While we were waiting for our excursion bus i sat and watched the receptionist smoke and tweeze her chin hairs and pick her pimples....it was amusing and helped pass the time. The beach was amazing and the location of the hotel was also good for accessing the local vendors. The air conditioning in our rooms did not work properly but there was no sense of urgency to move us to another room. The shows that we seen were good at night but other than that we did not see any animation people at this resort. All in all I would not recommend this resort for your visit to Veradero. Pay a little more money and go somewhere else. This was not my first trip to Cuba but will be my first and last trip to this resort.

Nice and simple

We enjoyed our vacation between june 25 and july 2 2016. Food was ok for us as we are not picky. Rooms were big and clean in cuban standard. This was our second time at the same hotel. The reason we picked this hitel because it was the most reasonable price. Did not experience any travel sickness during or after. Beach was awesome.

Great home away from home

My stay at Los Delfines is always great. I have been a regular going to Cuba about 2 or 3 times a year and always go back to Los Delfines. You won't find a better beach or better people. The rooms are dated but always clean. The food is nothing to write home about but I've never went hungry. The ice cream is my favorite. You won't find a better bang for your buck.

Amazing Place

Was very small hotel, each one I liked, nice and in front of sea, there is a veranda where you can have your morning coffee. Pool was clean, but there were no beach chairs to use. Food was good, the rooms were nice and clean and changing the towel every day.

Nice Resort

Beautiful place but animation way to loud. Food is really bad but drinks are good and coffe bar is amazing. Staff is unequal, some are really nice other are such a d***. It's a good spot downtown and the beach is really wonderfull as cuba can be.

Poor choice

Would not go back. Run down hotel. Nothing like its pics. Poor food. Staff nit friend ly at all. Just overall not as advertised. Tried to make the best of it. Stores ae friendlier than the hotel staff.

Blend of retreat and staying with the people

We were looking for an experience outside the all inclusive box. It is not fussy. The staff gave you space - like a good waiter who knows when to step in. They are loyal to their customers. There were good safety guards which made us feel safe because you walk out and you are in the town with the people like the local school down the street. Choice of right on the beach or more tranquil settings by the pool. Our party ranged from 12 - 78 years and we all felt comfortable and cared for.

Happy Hotel

Hotel is in need of upgrades in certain suites but hey we are in Cuba, When in Rome do as the Romans do. Overall the hotel is in good condition and the food and staff was excellent absolutely no problems there. Beach access is 2 minutes from Hotel my wife and myself have already taken Hotel emails to return next year. Would Highly recommend to tourists to make certain they have changed monies to Pesos before going to Varadero cant stress it enough, reason'' There is only one bank in Varadero and [... read more] to change monies you have to wait in a line up for up to 30 minutes due to there system. We tried 4 Hotels in the area to change Canadian dollars and they will not change them so the Bank is the only way. So Tourists beware.

LOS DELFINES

Wonderful helpful staff; home feeling, friendly tourists; food not bad and good variety; lots of imagination with preparation of meals, given the lack of products; the grounds were always well maintained and there was never a shortage of fun and entertainment;

Not Recommended

Hotel room is the worst we've seen but shower works, beds adequate. TV broken, AC not working and balcony door would not close. Told hotel was full so could not change our room. There fora short stay so stuck it out. Grounds are beautiful and the beach amazing because it's Varadero. Food was enough to survive but mostly ate off site. Will not go back to this resort.

Decent resort, great beach.

I did not have high expectations (in terms of room condition and quality of food) when booking this resort, as it was rated 3 stars. Regardless of the slightly deteriorating condition of the room everything worked properly, the food was not great but there were plenty of options to pick from for picky eaters. The best part about this resort is that it is directly on the beach, right in the heart of Veradero and close enough for an affordable taxi ride to Havana. A comfortable resort

I had a great time there and was very pleased with my room,pool area and how close the beach was to the bar area and dining area. There were ample huts on the beach for shade for most people who wanted them. I loved being downtown and being able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. There are a lot of reasonable restaurants in the area as well.

Great location, room, service and food.

Just got back from 12 days, great vacation, best food I have had in Cuba. The staff were all lovely, room service excellent. Entertainment was good, would like to see more activities during the day maybe some dancing lessons, Spanish lessons. Lots of good fun, small hotel. great location. No complaints value amazing.

Good value for an Enjoyable vacation

The grounds and room were clean and the staff was courteous and friendly. The mattress was a bit uncomfortable but I slept like a rock anyway because of the beautiful sun and lots of activity. The food was a bit repetitive but there was always something edible and there are lots of reasonably priced restaurants within a 5 minute walk. The beach is one of the best I have ever seen and NO sand flies! You can walk for 20 KM if you wanted to. This hotel is right in the middle of the town of Varadero [... read more] and that makes for far more opportunities to explore the area, shop, visit restaurants and bars and get to know more local people. It is also a good base of operations for tours since it is closer to the base of the peninsula, the rides are shorter to the tours and airport than for the large resorts further up the beach. If you insist on a 5 star resort, you may want to look elsewhere, but for me this was perfect. I would recommend Club Los Delfines to a friend but with the caveat that they have to adjust their expectations. I had a great time.

Something for everyone!

The Resort was overall very well maintained, especially the landscaping. There was a good variety of food and fresh fruit and vegetables for the meals. There was an upbeat feeling with the music and Entertainment for the young people. The Staff was wonderful! We made some great friendships with all ages. The only problem we had was that there was NO internet in the resort and we had to walk about a Kilometer in either direction and then wait in line for an available computer. This may not be a p [... read more]riority for many people. The resort is located in the central area of Varadero with lots of restaurants and craft vendors to see nearby.

While for us it may not be for everyone!

This was our 4th time at Los Delfines. We go back simply because we like it. It's not a 5 star resort, it doesn't have the best buffet food, and sometimes some of the rooms can be a bit - um - challenging. But the hotel is on the gorgeous Varadero beach, right downtown, and not out in the isolated tourista zone. Overall, we have had good rooms. This time we had 142 - and it was poolside with an ocean view, and steaming hot water everyday, though I did hear some people didn't have hot water. Entertainment good, servers good, though I have to say the bartenders this year were a bit sullen with us (and they are the same ones from previous years). The cigarette smoke is very heavy - there are alot of Quebecois and Italians there where smoking is still very common. But sit outside on the nice patio and feel the breeze off the ocean. Get away from Varadero, visit other places in Cuba, go to a casa particular and stay with a Cuban family, and then come back to Los Deflines. This isn't really a party hotel, it's more like a house party with friends that go to bed at 11 pm :) Suits us very well - though not everyone would be happy here.
