The resort is beautiful. However there was construction happening during my stay which was very annoying at 8:30 in the morning when work began. It was very loud and very dusty. Food was amazing at all restaurants!!

AWSOME
AWSOME RESORT. A few things. 1. No exhaust fans in the washroom, just a window.
2. No ice machines, you had to ask room service for ice or take ice in a cup from the buffet fountain pop dispenser.
3. Room lights and lamp lights are to dim, .

Wonderful resort
The stay at Catalonia Riviera Maya was wonderful. From the welcoming arrival to the good byes when we left the staff were very accommodating. The rooms were cleaned daily and the fridge restocked as well. If you needed any thing they were more than willing to help you out.
There were a lot of stairs to get around but manageable. The staff arranged for a golf cart at a decent rate which aloud us to drive around Puerto Aventuras and see the marine animals, shops and places to eat outside the res[... read more]ort. All of the food was very good and the Buffett had enough selection to satisfy all of us. The entertaining staff and bartenders were always friendly and there to make you feel right at home. Access to the water through the beach can be tricky if you don’t wear water shoes as there were a lot of rocks but once you got pass the rocks there was a nice sand bottom. We were there for ten days and we were not disappointed with anything.

Small but has everything!
It is smaller than I expected but still has everything that we can enjoy. The best is the entertainment shows each night. The foods overall are quite salty. They don't have healthy sense in terms of cooking. I would give 6 out of 10 to this resort.

Small but nice!!!
Great service ... Bar was great... Employees were very accommodating however we had an incident in which we kept the bed sheet out of the room and asked for house keeping to pick it up.. they picked it up but never reported it so front desk wanted us to pay 1300 Pesos for the sheet .. after spending sometime the issues was resolved .... apart from that the resort, food, pools and staff is very nice

Great but for the seaweed
Catalonia Riviera Maya
My husband and I have just spent a wonderful two weeks at the Catalonia Riviera Maya, from May12, 2019. Resort very clean, rooms large, and bed very comfortable. Staff very friendly. Check-in and out seamless.
The food at the 2 buffet restaurants was very good, the best of any all-inclusive resort we have been to. There were repetitive standards from day-to-day, eg. pizza, pasta, oatmeal, bacon and delicious sausages, but there was always some new choices available, [... read more]too. Coffee was terrible. It was quite noisy. Service was very good the first week, and not as good on the 2nd week. (not sure why?) The a la cartes were all good, with the Italian being the best. We went to the beach bar for lunch several days, and enjoyed it very much. Great hamburgers!
There was a lot of seaweed, and staff was working hard to rake it up, bagging it and wheeling it away. I understand this is now the norm lately on this coast. I was still able to shore snorkel daily. This was quite good, very enjoyable. Most memorable fish: a lionfish, pufferfish, a stone (?or scorpion fish), stingrays, trunkfish, 2 types of filefish, baby drum, barracuda and the more typical damselfish, sergeant majors, etc.
Entertainment staff very good, especially Viviana, Georgina, Katy and Miguel. Spanish classes were not available daily, rather only 3 times per week, which was unusual and disappointing. The schedule was posted twice near both pools, but unfortunately, were not the same, which was frustrating, until I figured that out. I did enjoy some stretching or yoga classes, both on land or in the pool. I did find that the activities which I wanted to do were all crammed together in a 2 hour period, approx. 3 x a week with two activities scheduled in the same 30 min. time slot. eg. bike tour, snorkeling and kayak tour, stretching and Spanish class. As a result, I ended up not doing some of these activities as tours, but rather ended up going on my own. If these group activities had been better spread out and daily, I would have enjoyed it more. There was nothing organized for the afternoons which I wanted to do.
Other amazing staff were Sophie at the dive shop, the friendly ladies at the Creperie and the wonderful bartender (Manuel?) at the pool bar, nearest the Yucatan side.
We would definitely recommend this hotel.

Fabulous vacation
Excellent service throughout. Great food and beverage choices. Seaweed on beach beyond the resort's control; cleaned up once the wind died down. Several clean and refreshing pools to choose from. Our needs were met swiftly and happily. Fabulous entertainment. Close to Tulum and Akumal. Would definitely return and highly recommend!!!

Great resort!
I stayed at the Catalonia Riviera Maya from March 1 to March 8, 2019. Overall, it was a very good stay. Here are the pros and cons:
Room - The room was great, clean with lots of storage and a comfortable bed. There were problems with the toilet which were fixed on the second try. The sink stopper wouldn't stay open and it drained very slowly, but I never asked to have it fixed.
Food - It was an interesting mix of food. There was some very good food and some really not very good food. Overa[... read more]ll, the buffet was adequate although smaller with less choice than buffets I have seen at some other resorts. But there was always lots to eat and it was fresh, although not always hot. Breakfast was very good. The a la carte restaurants were very good, with Bloved standing out as the best by far. If you have the option to upgrade to Privileged for a reasonable fee, do it and have lunch at Bloved as often as you can. The view is amazing and the food is excellent. Dinner at Bloved was also very good and our server, Lucas, was great fun!
Room service - Don't order from room service unless you really have to. The burgers were not very good and you can't order breakfast from room service unless you do so a day ahead. I was ill one afternoon/evening but could not get soup or toast delivered to my room, unfortunately.
The pools - They are great. The privileged pool was wonderful and you could watch some of the entertainment at the main pool from there. It was also fun to go to the two main pools and watch the entertainment more closely. The entertainment staff at the hotel work very hard and go above and beyond.
The beach - The beach was ok. There were lots of chairs on the beach and the sand was nice. But the beach was small and the water was not great for swimming (lots of sea grass). There was not much that could be done about the sea grass although the staff spent countless hours trying to clean it up and carry it away. If the beach is the most important thing to you (it is not for me), then you will find it does not compare to the beaches of Cuba and the DR or even some other beaches in Mexico.
Entertainment - I saw two shows - the Mexican show and the Broadway show. Both were excellent and I heard that Lion King was too. There was music and dancing in the bar outside the theatre before and after the shows and karaoke night was fun to watch. I never made it to the disco.
Staff - All the staff were excellent. Very friendly, very helpful and very attentive.
Spa - The spa was beautiful and I had a great massage from Angelica who also applied some soothing treatment to my sunburn. The hydrotherapy pool was very nice too.
Accessibility - Although accessibility is not an issue for me, I have friends for whom it is an issue so I always try to evaluate it. Much of the resort is very accessible (lobby, rooms, showers). But there would be some areas that you could not access (unless I missed something). For example, 3 of the a la carte restaurants and Bloved are up a set of stairs. There may be an elevator I did not see but you would want to ask specifically about this.
Overall, I would give this resort a 3.5 to 4 star rating.

Catalonia Riveria Mya
Hotel for the most part is good but nothing better than a 4-star. Staff are friendly but rarely know a SINGLE word of English (other than the front desk and concierge staff). Food is good but variety other than 6 ways to make eggs Spanish-style and the like makes it difficult to say that the food variety is good. The food also lacks taste. The resort so desperately needs a chef to teach all of the cooks how to cook with flavor! Pools are good but the activity staff, again, speak no English [... read more]so more than 60% of the guests don't participate in anything b/c they have no idea of what's being said.

Didn't want to leave
To start off the staff were amazing.
All the staff treated our 2 boys like gold which made them feel so special. Our room was clean and comfortable. We have stayed at a larger resort before and everything was pretty spaced out. It was nice to be able to walk to our dinners, the pool or the beach. We even walked 10 minutes to the marina to do a bit of shopping.
I found the food to be very good with a lot of options. The only thing I would say is skip the Tapas...not even worth your time.
O[... read more]ver all it was a great trip, great staff, and even better food. I would re book with this hotel again in the future. **I hope the near future**

Catalonia Riviera Maya Resort & Spa
The grounds of the resort are well maintained. The rooms are a little outdated but clean.
The resort is on the smaller side, most of the restaurants are in the same area.
There is tons of chairs beside the pools and along the beach.
The beach area is small and because of the location you can't go for a long walk on the beach.
There is two buffets, one indoors and the other open.
Both serve most of the same food with a few different dishes.
They only had one theme night where some dishes we[... read more]re different.
We did four of the restaurants, Mexican, Italian, Japanese and Steak. The Japanese and the Italian were the best.
They had a different band every night that played in the lobby bar before and after the main show.
Friends of ours used the kids club which they really enjoyed.
The margarita were delicious!
They crepe and the food trucks were good lunch options.
We used the bicycles on site to go to the marina that has a Dolphin center.
The mini golf and tennis court were decent and the sports bar was fun with all the games.
It was a relaxing vacation!
