Amazing experience

The rooms are big and we got upgraded to a beach viewed room after we experienced with no hot water for shower for two days. We complained to the customer service. They apologized and upgrade us to better rooms afterwards. The food/restaurant choices were not a lot but it’s sufficient and tasty. The unlimited alcohol is great. The pool/beach are great. The sand are very smooth with great water activities. They need to provide customer with clear direction of the resort, maybe a bro [... read more]chure with all the information of the resort. The Japanese restaurant definitely need an improvement of the menu as it’s not at expectation. The customer service staff also needs to improve their communication skills and English as it’s was very difficult to communicate with them.

Melia International - Don't Go!

Having been to Cuba 14 times, we had very low expectations provided the current economic situation. We DID expect Good Customer Service as the Cubans are some of the most amazing people. To our disappointment this resort was far from Hospitable, or Happy! Upon arrival we were not welcomed like our usual past trips to Cuba. No smiles, no drinks, no warm welcome. Went to reception asked to be moved, they wanted $41 per night??? No thanks! Asked for Beer and pop for our room, they said they do not stock the room? That was not true. We waited until the next morning to speak to our West Jet Rep who in turn got us moved in a matter of minutes (5 doors down from our first room) Not a very big move, but enough to see the pool and beach (why did we have to fight for this?) By doing this we missed the breakfast AND lunch buffet, so off to town we go to find food. So, we moved rooms, and were also given two beer and two pop each day (had to fight for that) Seems like everything you would expect from a 5 star resort was not met, nor was even tried to be met. The customer service was just lacking soooo much. No Hola's or happy faces on this resort Resort: Dirty. Impersonal. No Cuba Vibe. Little in entertainment except the lobby bar music. There was broken wine glasses on our floor next to the elevator for 2 days. We asked 5 times to have it cleaned up before someone got hurt. To no avail. My husband paid a peso to borrow the broom and clean it himself. Ohhhh, and Peso's, they do not take pesos on the resort, or many places off resort. They do take CANADIAN! (Wish we had known that) The bus ride to resorts promotes changing your money to pesos, but they do not tell you they are not good! So if you are Canadian, bring your Canadian Money Food: Breakfast buffett was a miss. Lunch and Supper Buffet was ok but no fries and no pasta, and one BIG problem, the breakfast buffet closes at 10am! and the lunch doesn't start until 1:30. So 3 hours with no food (except the snack bar that had a hot dog) Needless to say we spent every day in town for food. A La Carte - ok. Not much flavour, and a lot of salt, but there was pasta We do understand Cuba is suffering economically right now, but to pay top dollar for this resort and to be treated the way we were was uncalled for. We visit Cuba for the freedom, the culture and the people. The beaches are beautiful and we rented scooters a couple of days to get off the resort. With the pandemic and other issues, I would wait another while before visiting again. They are just getting the tourism back on track, so maybe give it some time. There was no beer or pop off the resort and not a lot of options to eat, but we always live Kiki's pizza which is always a hit. Also the Pizza at the Yacht Club was delicious. Steak house was also good, but again limited options most places. On a positive note: Beaches are best in the world! Culture off the resort was same Cuba. AND good rum! The resort was in walking distance to town. See you again CUBA, NOT MELIA INTERNATIONAL

Very good

Malia international varadero Cuba is a very nice hotel clean well organized,stuff is welcoming and helpful. Food is good ,beach is clean,no mosquitoes a lot of flies though. What I liked most is the lead supervisor who went around asking if there is a problem or an issue to be resolved. We are a family of seven,all enjoyed The stay so much.

Pros: One of the best beaches I’ve been. Hotel is in good shape. Rooms are ok. Staff really nice. Cons: Check in two hours for us and for some guys we meet there was six hours. Food needs more choices

We had a perfect time!

The hotel, room and staff was amazing! The food was not bad at all as people say it would be. We actually did not mind it at all. There is something for everyone, plenty of options and cooked and tasted very good. Please try to keep in mind the country is having a very hard time especially after the pandemic and supplies coming in. Try to be a bit more understanding and patient. Beautiful new hotel

Great hotel, would give it another chance after life is back to normal . Hotel has potential to have better food and entertainment but kept everything at a minimum due to COVID. Gorgeous beach. Carribean restaurant has the best food and service. The Japanese restaurant was very disappointing. Bartenders were great. Buffet was ok, variety was limited. 24 snack bar was extremely disappointing. Beach and new hotel made up for the lack of everything else.

An amazing well run holiday resort.

I chose this Melia because my main concern was COVID safety procedures as well as I wanted a wonderful holiday. Employees wore masks at all times. I was not disappointed. I would congratulate them on the cleanliness of the resort, the well trained friendly staff, the beach and great service they provide to guests. The restaurants were all very good. Always a good variety of choices. The Buffet Restaurant was excellent and safe. Safety rules were strictly enforced. Masks were required to [... read more] enter restaurants and could be removed once seated. As guests left, their tables were immediately wiped down. During the process of choosing your food, servers with tongs filled your plate as you progressed along the buffet. Breakfast was my favorite time because of the of the great cooks at many stations that prepare foods to your liking in front of you. In particular my morning omelette with ham, cheese, green pepper, onions and mushrooms. At other times these stations fried great burgers, fish and chicken. Needless to say, there were also many excellent precooked choices to choose. Lots of great salads and amazing baked goods. I dined at their specialty restaurants 7 nights out of our two week stay. The Japanese was my favorite followed by the Cuban (excellent lamb), Italian (great pizza) and Mexican. Last, the property was beautiful and well maintained. I could go on forever about the beach, pools and lobby bars. Their workers were friendly and happy and made for a great visit. I plan to visit again for two weeks in November.

Nice Vacation

The hotel was nice. The rooms were spacious. The restaurants need some improvement for example: food. The Cuban restaurant the food was tasty and the service was great. The beverages at the hotel, could be more variety. The beach staff were amazing always willing to help you find umbrellas and lounge chairs.

The best in Cuba!

Modern facilities, clean and well appointed rooms, impressive food quality and attentive service. All staff taking steps to safeguard from Covid by use of masks at all times which was reassuring for all. Would be nice to see more lounge areas with a bit more diversity in the drink program, however, all in all a great set up with friendly and attentive staff.

A resort that has great potential

Physical aspects including buildings, rooms,grounds,and other facilities are both clean , well maintained and well designed. Rooms are spacious and comfortable Frontline staff in food areas,restaurants,bars,pool as well as cleaning staff were very pleasant and happy to please. However staff in customer relations were not helpful and abrupt . Some attention to food variety as well as preparation is recommended to qualify this place as a five star resort

The Honest Truth... Amazing Stay

Everyone's expectations of a vacation is very different, not to mention what there experience has been. You must first have to understand that a 5 Star in Cuba is not the same as a 5 Star in Toronto, nor a 5 Star in New York not to mention a 5 Star in Honk Kong. The water was crystal clear, soft sand and shallow for a good 40 - 50 feet in. Large Pools with entertainment, swim up bar and ample seating. I will say that probably due to Covid restrictions and the Hotel being at 50% capacity is why there was availability of chairs at the pool and beach. Red bar was great to sit out and enjoy coffee and drinks and smoke a cigar and closed around 1am. Blue bar on the other side of the lobby was open 24hrs. There were also the rooftop or 10th floor patio bars that were open but quiet due to the hotels guest limits, and there was a enclosed bar between the 2 bars on the 10th floor too. There is a gym and other amenities, but I didn't go there for those. Now to the what everyone is always wanting to hear...FOOD. I personally was too busy having fun in Varadero and around the pools with other guests to book a time at the restaurants. I never knew where we would be at any given time, to book a time slot at the restaurants. Though I did hear from other guests that there meals in the a-la carte restaurants were very good. Maybe not to our standards in Toronto, but never the less enjoyable. Having gone to the buffet for the entire 7 day stay and gain 5 LBs coming home. They had great BBQ/Grilled chicken that was amazing, think I went twice for that. Fish is always an abundance and good. The grill meat selection was pork chops, chicken breast, sausages, pork strips and beef burgers. Pasta is pasta, no alfredo sauce but still good. Bread was fresh and somedays lacking butter. Salad, not that guy, so passed on that. Ice cream and deserts were the same. Never went wrong with breakfast, took care of my guy and he took care of me. 5 egg whites with cheese and bacon, or anything else you wanted to put in your omelet or eggs. They had breads, pastries, donuts, pancakes or more like thicker crapes, but none the less enough to get you going for the morning. There's other stuff that is pre-prepared that you can get but I stayed away from that, like my food fresh of the grill. Lunch, well I ,missed most of it as I was at the beach or pool so I made use of the 24hr restaurant which was burgers, ham and cheese, hot dogs and pulled pork somedays. Wish they had fries there, would of been great at 5am in the morning. Keep in mind that 2 of the restaurants were closed due to limits on the resorts occupancy and Covid distancing. Buffet there were no restrictions to seating just had to wait to be served by someone to put the food on your plate which took sometime. Probably would have had huge lineups if there were more people on the resort too. The staff, everywhere on the resort were fantastic. Always accommodating and willing to help. You will find the odd few that speak very good English and make you feel at home and are pleasant to talk to in English. Overall, we had a great time, no one got sick and looking forward to come back there again and make more use of the beach. LOL

Amazing

Melia Internacional is a large resort with very friendly staff. Resort will not disappoint you. It is located right on the beautiful beach with beautiful pool as well. Beside buffet we tried Italian and TexMex meals were excellent. Buffet has a lot choices for anyones taste. Breakfast cook making omelet etc. is one of the friendliest people you will ever meet. There is nothing bad we can say about this resort. Walking distance to Varadero town to explore to brake the routine is good as well. Cuba’s Best Resort

This relatively new resort does a lot of things correctly. The physical assets, including the rooms and public areas are in great shape and are well maintained. The beach is spectacular and the pool areas are large and very accommodating. The food is very good, particularly at the a la carte restaurants. The staff are friendly and anxious to serve. We would recommend.

Not worth the money

Beach was beautiful. This that should have come with the premium level. Didn’t happen. Pool was not cleaned properly. Garbage floating in it. Staff overall were nice. Not a lot of beverage choices and the food was horrible. 3 out of 4 of us got sick. Will not go back. Also Varadero things shut down and closed over night. Nothing really available. Don’t buy their money. Can’t convert back. Over all just a bad experience. First time there.

Amazing resort

We had a great experience. The manager and the staff were very nice and very friendly. The rooms were very clean. Even the hallways, beach area and pool area were very clean as well. Highly recommend this resort.

We loved this resort!!

We were at Melia December 2019 for one week. The resort is absolutely beautiful. It’s big, modern and very clean. Lot’s of bars to get a drink. Rooms are clean, food was delicious and plenty of drinks. Bartenders are friendly. We were at the beach a lot and used the beach bar. The bartenders there were absolutely great. This was the best resort I’ve ever been to. And I’ve been to many. I would definitely go back to this one. We were planning to go back in December 2020 but can’t because of Covid. One week wasn’t enough. Next time I’d love to go for 2 weeks especially with everything that’s gone on for the past year. This is a resort for age groups 30’s/40’s, singles, and families.

Nice resort

The melia adventure

We had an amazing time on our first mother daughter vacation! The staff and entertainment blew us away. We had a few issues with our room and everything was fixed promptly! The food was good for cuba but the service won by far!!!

Hotel

Hotel was beautiful, love the ambiance. Lovely music, entertainment most nights were good. For a 5 star hotel food wasnt good. Too much meat. Dessert- very limited, most was mouse. In modern times a lot of people dont eat too much meat or are vegetarian. There should be a balance. One evening for dinner i ate bread & cheese.
