There was definitely a lot of food in the hotel. However, the buffet needs better chefs. The flavours of the food were really off. The captain morgan grill had the best tasting food overall. I do think that the chef's need a bit of training. Anything fried was totally soaked in oil. As if fried in cold oil. Like I said a lot of good food however taste was not there.
The rooms had issues as well, we asked for our tap to be fixed many times. And there was 3 of us in a room we asked for a [... read more]better room and it was denied as well, even though the hotel was not fully booked.

Riu Flamingos: Better than expected
Overall the newly reno’d hotel met or exceeded my expectations. There was no issue finding seating around the pools with both sunny and shaded areas available. Sadly the beach chairs had zero shade as they, apparently, cut down all the trees. Entertainment was decent, with a good live band at times. Food at the buffet was fine although they need a few lessons in how to carve a roast rather than hack it to bits. The Asian a la carte was just more buffet but the others were fine. Our room was in a[... read more] brand new building so everything worked perfectly. Would I go back? Probably not as it was located well away from anything- 5km to main Nuevo Vallarta and 12km to PV itself.

Catalonia Yucatan: Great location
Just spent two weeks there. Rooms were a good size and the beds were comfortable. There is great pool space and seemed like there were enough loungers at the pool and the water. The attention to food allergies was top notch. They ask at every meal if there are allergies and they took my gf around to show her what was available for her. They even cooked for her separately. It’s a short walk into town. The shows next door were great. They could use a lounge bar in the evening. We had a 5 al La car[... read more]te max in two weeks. We had 3 to choose from. It is a chill resort. Livelier next door, which we had access to. Beach is rocky but there is a way in that is sandy. Good snorkeling in front of the resort.

Grand Palladium Vallarta: Great resort
The Grand Palladium is a wonderful resort. Very clean, staff are exceptional and the food at the buffet was very good. It wasn't overly busy which was good. My daughter loved the teen club and looked forward to spending time there with friends. It was the perfect family vacation.

Iberostar Waves Paraiso Beach: Great resort for standard budget!
Buffets especially breakfast great. Rooms slightly outdated and there wasn't a chest of drawers to store clothes. Grounds and facilities great and very friendly staff. A la carte could be hit and miss. Would have liked a better understanding of ability to access other connected resort beyond use of the pools. Extremely clean everywhere and had lots of amenities for adults and kids.

Iberostar Waves Paraiso del Mar: Another Stay in a Lovely Resort
We have stayed at Iberostar (Waves) Paraiso del Mar (as well as Iberostar Paraiso Beach) multiple times--and it remains one of our favourite resorts! While it was not pefect, it was still very enjoyable. FYI the negatives--We found the "Concierge" diversion after check-in to be not worth our time (discouraged us from meeting with our Air Canada rep to find out our transfer time because she wanted us to attend her "presentation" on the selection/club membership instead), and she did not advise [... read more]us on the ability to book restaurant reservations on the app (usually after 1030 PM the night before) versus coming in the morning to see her. As well, the coatis near the garbage cans at the far pool area have learned to go inside and overturn them, making a mess and becoming pests a bit (Please, people, do not feed them or leave food on your lounger area or even in a bag, and be aware that they do bite--let them be). As well, at times the internet speed was not up to streaming, but one could always check emails. But these experiences were dwarfed by all the positives--a beautiful beach and pool area (and staff did confiscate belongings from chair hogs sometimes), with enough loungers and shade for everyone to enjoy the experience; delicious food at the buffet restaurants--the Plaza on the Beach side was our favourite--don't miss the Asian night for sashimi, tuna tataki, and other favourites. As well, we enjoyed the Mexican themed night at La Plaza. There was always something tasty to eat--from omelettes freshly made (small tips accepted but not required), many vegetable and fruit choices, healthy proteins including fish and seafood, and comfort foods, too. We enjoyed the French El Colonial restaurant (we lined up 20 minutes before the first seating to guarantee a spot)--order multiple Burgundy escargot appetizers if you want to share escargot (3 snails per appetizer), note that the Mezclum salad fried brie was a much larger sharable portion, and the Caribe Chocolate cold souffle sphere and wild berries was a delight! As well, I found the reservation for the El Rodizio was very worth our while--feel free to request a hotter sauce (we enjoyed what a believe may have been a habernero cream sauce in small amounts). The coffee shop in the shopping plaza area was a favourite, and there was ice cream and crepes also nearby. The gym was wonderful, and there were enough activities available to stay busy if one wanted. We found the ceramic painting to be ridiculously overpriced ($30 USD for a 3 inch plate??), though. We find this place perfect for families and all ages. We don't require air-conditioned buffets (the shade and fans keep the area very cool), and prefer the birds and animals in these resorts versus the more expensive Lindo/Maya resorts. PS rooms can be chilly with the A/C--bring pjs and feel free to request a blanket.

Grand Oasis Palm: Do not book this hotel
It took over 1 hour to check in and we were 2nd in line at 1am. The front desk lady refused to check in my mom in her own room saying that her room was not ready and then changed her mind and said she had to go to a different lobby in another building for someone to check her in. When she got there, they told her the original lady should have checked her in and this is now 2 hours later. Pools are not heated so they are extremely cold. They are all well over 5'7 feet even at the kids watersid[... read more]e by the pirate ship so you need to have a life jacket for them unless they are extremely good swimmers. There are no loungers around the pools and not enough on the beach. If you want a lounger, you must grab one before 715am. The APP to book a la cartes was working however, we were never able to book even right at 8am when the reservation system opened because they were always "full". Rooms are small and always smelled musty. The bathrooms were even smaller! Food was very much the same each day with 1 or 2 dishes that were swapped. During the week, there is no evening entertainment until 930pm so there is nothing to do after dinner until the night show. Weekends they do have live music or some activities starting around 8pm. Bars close really early at 1130 throughout the resort with the exception of 1 bar that I believe closes at 1230. I am not a picky traveller and have gone to places like Cuba and although their food is pretty bad, the resorts and overall experience there is so much better.

Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: Fantastic Trip
This was our first time to this resort and we will definitely return. Our stay at
Decameron exceeded our expectations. The resort was very clean and the beds were quite comfortable. The room was made up fresh everyday and we had lots of bottled water. The mini fridge worked great and kept our ice frozen.
Overall the food was very good and no complaints whatsoever. However, the red wine was inconsistent, but ok. We will bring a couple bottles of our own next time. The employees were all [... read more]fantastic and very friendly. The ocean was awesome to look at but a bit rough for swimming (for our liking). The fact that this resort has several pools and bars is a real plus. The staff work hard to keep them well maintained and clean.
A plus for the resort was the friendly gentleman operating the pottery painting opportunity. Many people spent countless hours enjoying painting their pieces. We have never seen this at a resort before and we really enjoyed it.
The iguanas were wonderful to watch and quite entertaining.
The only downfall to the whole trip, which is no fault of the resort, was that we got "tricked" into a conversation at the airport; someone selling excursions, which was really a timeshare scam. We got taken for $120 USD. - Beware! Live and Learn.

Riu Flamingos: Nice surprise!
We really enjoyed our stay at the newly renovated Riu Jalisco. The resort is beautifully decorated and well maintained, with employees constantly cleaning everywhere. The staff was polite, friendly and hard working. The resort lay out is simple and well thought out for the most part. However, the show/disco area is located at the centre of the resort, which means that the sound can be heard from most guest rooms until late at night, which can be a problem at times. Although we did not expec[... read more]t professional shows, we were disappointed in the couple shows we attended. The food and drinks were varied and delicious. The beach is one of the best we have seen in years. Unfortunately, there is no shade. There are lots of chairs at the beach and the pools. We appreciated not having to look for a spot early in the morning. All and all, we had a great vacation and we are looking forward to going back.

Riu Flamingos: A very nice newly renovated, all inclusive resort
The resort was very nice and on a lovely stretch of beach in the Riviera Nayarit area. It is a little far removed from main PV
area where most excursions run from so be prepared to do at least 45 min or more travel time to get them.
There are only 3 true ala cart restaurants, The American (which has a very limited menu), the Italian and the Steak House which were both
very good. The Mexican and Asian restaurants are really just glorified buffets, even though you have to wait in line from t[... read more]he time of opening to
have a chance to get in. The food is all very typical "all inclusive" rate food, there is something for everyone so you won't go hungry, but it is by no
means spectacular. The pools are lovely and there are always lots of loungers in the sun and shade available so you don't have to get up early and place your towels to reserve a spot, unless there is one you really want. The staff are all very friendly and the entire resort is kept very clean. The mini fridges in the rooms are supposed to be stocked every 2 days, but we had to ask anytime we needed something. There are also plenty of loungers on the beach, although not a lot of shade, since the palm trees were cut back during the renovations. We were lucky enough to be there during whale birthing time so saw lots of activity in the bay. They have paddle boards and kayaks you can borrow and go out to follow the many dolphins about. Overall a good resort for just adults and families as well.

Riu Dunamar: nice, small resort
If you’re coming to Mexico mainly for pool time and drinks, this place will suit you. But beyond the hotel itself, there’s really nowhere to walk or explore in the evenings.
The beach has beautiful white sand and is very long, great for walking. Unfortunately, during our stay it was extremely windy with big waves, which made getting into the water — let alone swimming — quite difficult. There are no umbrellas on the beach, only tall palm trees, which can be an issue if you’re looking for prop[... read more]er shade.
The main pool didn’t feel as large as it looks in the photos. It was quite crowded and full of kids most of the time.
The room was fine — clean, with a balcony and a distant ocean view overlooking most of the hotel complex. Once the windows were closed, it was quiet enough at night.
As for the restaurants, the main buffet was good, with a decent variety of food, fruits, juices, coffee, breads, cookies, and ice cream. There are about 4–5 à la carte restaurants and no reservation is required, which sounds convenient, but in practice it means waiting anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour for a table. The menus were the same throughout the week. What was supposed to be the “gourmet” restaurant ended up being the worst dining experience.
Our flight home was very late, so we asked (and offered to pay) for a late checkout. Management showed no flexibility. In the evening we were told to come back in the morning to speak with the manager, who simply told us it wasn’t possible. It felt like the issue was just passed along rather than addressed. Checkout is strictly at 12:00.
Overall, this was disappointing. I won’t be returning.

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Worst resort
⭐️ (1 Star Review)
Royalton Riviera Cancun – Not Senior Friendly
I stayed at Royalton Riviera Cancun with my family, and my experience was very disappointing.
We were placed on the 4th floor, and the elevators were not working most of the time. I have knee pain, and going up and down the stairs daily caused me significant discomfort and pain. There was no assistance offered, and staff showed little concern for my situation.
Customer service throughout the resort was poor and unhelpful.[... read more] Requests were ignored, and there was a general lack of care and hospitality.
For a resort that claims to be luxury and all-inclusive, it was not senior-friendly and did not accommodate guests with mobility issues.

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Worst Resort
⭐️⭐️ (1–2 Star Review)
Royalton Riviera Cancun – Extremely Disappointing Experience
This was our first time booking a 10-day all-inclusive stay, and unfortunately it was the worst vacation experience we have ever had.
Our trip started poorly even before arriving. Our flight from Toronto was delayed four hours due to maintenance. We were given $15 meal vouchers for our party of five (two rooms), but three of the vouchers did not work at Toronto Pearson Airport. I had to repeatedly stand in[... read more] line at Guest Services to have them reissued, only for them to fail again. This was extremely embarrassing and stressful, especially since my children were hungry and exhausted. I ultimately had to pay out of pocket.
When we finally arrived at the resort late at night, the experience did not improve.
• Long check-in lines
• No welcome drinks
• No bell service
• No assistance with luggage
• No one showed us to our rooms
The customer service was very poor.
The most serious issue happened the day after arrival. After dining at the ZEN restaurant, I became extremely nauseous and dizzy. Later that night, I woke up to vomit in the hallway, slipped, and hit the back of my head hard, losing consciousness. I was disoriented and could not recognize my surroundings or family for several minutes. My husband had to lift me and put me back into bed.
The hotel’s emergency response was slow and careless.
• The doctor and manager took a long time to arrive
• No ice was provided for my head
• No urgency or compassion was shown
Eventually, an ambulance took me to the hospital. At the hospital, instead of immediate care, the focus was repeatedly on how much I had to pay before tests could begin. After testing, there was very little explanation or care provided.
When I was discharged, we called the hotel multiple times requesting pickup — no one answered. We had to take a taxi back to the resort for $80 USD.
When we returned to our room, the vomit on the wall and beside the bed had not been cleaned, even though room service had supposedly been done. Shockingly, five days later, when the hotel manager finally checked on me, the mess was still there.
To make matters worse, the hotel manager later came to my room asking me to sign papers in exchange for a Bali bed ($180 value). The paperwork included language stating I would not sue or leave a negative review. I refused to sign.
Additional issues during our stay:
• Elevators were out of service about 90% of the time
• We were on the 4th floor with an elderly parent who has knee pain
• Constantly carrying a wagon up and down stairs
• Excessive mosquitoes
• Overall lack of care and accountability
This resort failed in basic customer service, cleanliness, safety, and emergency handling. For a property that markets itself as luxury and all-inclusive, this experience was deeply disappointing and unacceptable.
I would not recommend Royalton Riviera Cancun to families or anyone expecting proper care, safety, and hospitality.
