NYX Hotel Cancun: It's only OK.

2 weeks. Late January/early February 2019 My wife and I chose this hotel on Isla Cancun after eliminating the Mayan Riviera area (near Playa del Carmen) because of large amounts of Sargasso sea-weed in the ocean and on the beach there recently. We looked for a clean hotel, comfortable beds, good food, swimmable ocean and/or good boogie-boarding and a beach that's good for walking. What We Liked: White sand beach. What We Didn't Like: Weather - (Not the hotel's fault) Two days of torrential rain to start, with trips outdoors necessary to get from place to place within the site. Even with an umbrella, impossible to remain dry. Cool and windy. Hotel - Smaller, older hotel with renovated rooms. 8 small towers, some without elevators. Rooms facing the very close lagoon/road are very noisy from heavy traffic. Air conditioning cannot be adjusted - only on or off. Rooms are modern, but impractical for a beach holiday, with no hooks or towel bars. Closed windows allowed blowing rain in, to soak floors. Unsuitable for mobility-impaired because of many stairs to move through resort. Beach - Most of our time there the water and beach was covered in sea-weed. It was too rough to swim in the ocean, but poor waves for boogie-boarding. It's steeply sloped, so it's not great for walking on the wet part and very difficult to walk on the flatter dry part. It's wide and white sand. Food/Water - Hotel only supplies 1 litre of water per room per day. They will give you more at the bars. Can't drink the tap water (in 2019!). Both of us got food poisoning while here, for about 3 days each. Breakfast in only one restaurant - buffet. Coffee was from 2 Nescafe machines (other 2 broken); was poor quality with often long line-ups. Lunch in only one different restaurant or on beach - only very slow ordered food, no buffet, with constant heavy BBQ wood smoke swirling around the tables. Dinner served at lunch restaurant - ordered and buffet, or at very good ordered-food Chianti restaurant (limited visits, by reservation). Generally pretty good food. Staff - Great service from Gustavo, Luis, Carla and Norma. Not really "all-inclusive" because many staff get surly and uncooperative if they don't constantly receive the tips they think they should get.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Definitely not a 5 star

Was not a 5 star hotel ,stayed one night and changed hotels ( as well as 5 other couples did. ). We all moved to Akumal . The toilet did not work properly , room was older and definitely needs some repairs. There were stains on the he walls . The buildings are old and definitely showing there age. The buffet food was definitely 3 star quality not even close to 5 star. The drinks watered down and service slow . The whole reservation system is a joke and changes daily. ( they let people in that were not dressed properly ) After spending one night we could not wait to check out and move over to the new hotel . I would rate the hotel at best a 3 star. Don't waste your time just book another hotel.

Occidental Tucancun: Good time !

Awesome beach! Good food! Amazing staff! So much to do in the area. The sunset is amazing to watch. The Mexican restaurant was delicious. There is lots of activities during the day, night life only has bars.

Hotel Xcaret Mexico: Paradise

This resort is stunning! Lots to explore. Bonus to have included, & easy access to all the parks.Enjoyed the kayaking & paddle boards. No complaint with the staff very happy and accommodating. Food is very good :) Rooms are beautiful , I personally found the times house keeping could get to us wasn't the best. We were out all day every day, and the room never made till after 3 every day, we had to hang out a couple times when I would have had a nap or get refreshed for dinner. We went to the Brazilian restaurant in the cave, cool experience and very good, and unable to have accessed again do to private parties, which were Sooooo loud! One night until 5:30 am! :o :(. We have stayed in the adult location twice now , for access to the amazing restaurant , rooftop pool and quite from kids. But this trip the adult private parties were too much, I guess good if your attending. Beware of membership pressure ( timeshare) can end up wasting hours of fun adventures. When you start to feel uncomfortable, its OK to walk away !

Riu Emerald Bay: Great Vacation once again

Third visit to this resort and still love it..great location a fifteen minute walk to flea markets and restaurants .several pools to choose from.The food was great and plentiful..we had a beach party one nigt with BBQ and entertainment right on the beach..I have nothing bad to say about this resort.

Barcelo Maya Grand Resort: Amazing resort!

The resort complex and all its amenities were excellent. Family friendly. Food at the buffets was good and with lots of variety. The special dining restaurants were easy to get into and the food/service at them great. The resort was spotless. Attention to detail on the grounds and overall cleanliness of all areas was amazing. Staff was friendly, helpful and attentive. Pools and beaches excellent. A great resort that we look forward to visiting again.

Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun: Excellent Resort

The food, grounds, staff and entertainment exceeded my expectations. The swim-out was great after a full day of activities for a cool dip on your own pool. Highly recommended if your looking for a piece of paradise.

Grand Palladium Vallarta: Nice resort

Staff, beach and pools were great. Food for the most part awful. Usually cold and low quality products. Service was generally good. Evening shows were terrible. Just a bunch of folks on stage dancing to the nights theme. I would not recommend this resort and will not return.

Riu Palace Las Americas: Beautiful,clean and friendly resort!!!

This is my 5th Riu hotel I have stayed at but this adult’s only resort is by far the best! The hotel itself is very clean and all the staff are extremely friendly, helpful and professional. The Buffett food is great- I don’t know what people expect from buffet but you must keep in mind that they do get repetitive but was great. The beach was clean and able to see your feet! The left side of the beach is better for swimmimg.If you want to get away from kids this is the place- ADULTS ONLY!!! Also the location is super!! You can walk out of the hotel and safely walk on the streets filled with souvenir shops, malls,restaurants , clubs and a huge supermarket. It is very safe to take their public bus for 12 pesos !! This is our fourth trip to Cancun and we feel very safe walking on the streets and taking their bus. I would highly recommend this resort!

Royal Solaris: dissapointing

the grounds were kept very nice and tidy as well as the public areas the rooms were a little outdated and could use some upgrading the biggest disappointment for us was the food very bland in taste and just overall not very good , the entertainment was very minimal ,the staff was awesome and the rooms kept clean. I know it is not adults only and Would be good if you have children but would not recommend otherwise.

Occidental Nuevo Vallarta: Wasn't happy.

Amazing beach, understaffed, small rooms, public bathrooms extremely small stalls, beach & poolside activities fairly good.Juan was awesome for activities.had to pay for wifi. Asked to speak to the manager & was given excuse after excuse why I couldn't. Would not recommend or return to this hotel.

Riu Flamingos: great resort

food was great, shows were good we thought 2 of the shows were fantastic!! would be great to see servers go around the pool area with cocktails. Very nice to be able to go to the Riu Vallarta to swim and have lunch. Would definitely recommend this hotel to friends.

Platinum Yucatan Princess: Nice hotel - needs service improvement

The hotel is very beautiful, for the most part the staff are very friendly and helpful. Exception would be front desk- concierge and maintenance issues. We were in the platinum section and the air conditioner was broken for over 48hours. We were simply told to be patient or offered a room that was not at the same standard as our current room. For a resort of this size the amount of time it took to have the issue fixed was unacceptable. Overall though nice resort, very clean, we had a nice time.

Villas Vallarta by Canto del Sol: Great location, even greater staff!

We wanted a low-key week to relax and found it here. Close enough to small shops or a short taxi ride to downtown made it a good location. Everything was handy, with a smaller pool and restaurant than the main building, which suited us just fine. Upgrades to the very clean rooms are really nice, staff was EXCELLENT, and the daily entertainment was great. Because Villas Vallarta is just across a quiet street from Canto del Sol, we could go there for more activity if we wanted or to have access t [... read more]o the beach.

Canto Del Sol: Love this resort

Stayed at Canto del Sol from February 1st - February 8th Sunwing flight delay both ways 2 hours, but that was not a surprise almost expect it with Sunwing, besides that the resort is fantastic the staff also fantastic, love every minute of our stay from walks along the beach to shopping just right outside our Resort a taxi cab to the malecon ranges between 8 US Dollars and 10. This was our second time staying at Canto Del Sol the first time was across the street at the Villas this time at Canto [... read more] Del Sol Plaza, we definitely enjoyed the plaza more the meals were all very enjoyable with plenty enough to choose from. The pool was heated which was great because there's always a breeze coming off the ocean one little irritating issue was that the swim up bar was closed most of the day which meant you had to get out of the pool and walk around to the other side to be served although quite often you could order from a waiter that was walking by, Victor 1 and Victor 2 where the waiters that served us most times in the evenings and are fantastic. Can't say enough good things about the staff they were all so accommodating and lovely and sad to see us go. Beware when checking in the front desk will send you directly across to pick up your towel cards and your free gift this person will also try to talk you into going to the timeshare meeting they will not take no for an answer and I finally had to just walk away! Beside that we will definitely return one of our favorite resorts along with loving Puerto Vallarta.

Barcelo Maya Grand Resort: Amazing family resort!

The Barcelo was an excellent family resort!! Our kids had a blast in the water parks and at the kids club- this was the first resort we’ve gone to, where parents were able to relax too! The food was excellent, and the resort was very clean. I would highly recommend this resort to any families looking for an amazing vacation!

Cozumel Hotel and Resort: Wonderful resort!

Hotel is wonderful. Very clean. Wonderful staff. Good food. Nice family resort. Will go back again. Within 25 mins of walking to town. We loved playing volleyball everyday. Can't say enough about the amazing staff. They make your stay!

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Great time

The hotel grounds were beautifully kept. Beaches were wonderful, the Beach Activity service was great it was wonderful dealing with Gabriella The food was good lots of variety. The Santa Fe restaurant steakhouse was not up to Snuff The people at the front desk were excellent. Can't say as much for the concierges and head of house keeping that looked after our section it only took us five days to get an iron in our room. El Cozumeleno Beach: Very Nice Vacation with Friends and Family

This resort is a very nice little resort. The grounds are well kept, rooms in the newer 9 story building were all well kept and very clean. Pool was cleaned regularly and the Staff were awesome. The location was great, service at the pool was awesome, snack bar and a la cart staff were fantastic, but, we also had a few things we didn’t like. We arrived at the hotel at 11 pm and there was no food or snack bar open to eat anything. The lobby bar closed at 11pm as well so we could do nothing [... read more] but unpack. There is no night life at this hotel which wasn’t a big deal for us as we went into town most nights. Another disappointment is that we had to wake up at 6 am to stand in line until 8 am to book the a la cart for dinner. It was rediculous. Other than that we still had a great vacation and enjoyed the resort.

Riu Flamingos: Relax and enjoy

Wonderful trip. Flights were on time and the resort was well run. Friendly staff and clean rooms. We would stay at the Riu again. Three different restaurants to choose from. The Asian restaurant was the best kept secret.
