Melia Jardines del Rey: Very Fun Time! - See Review for TIPS

We went with 11 of our friends and family January 9-16th. It was a great trip! The staff were very friendly! Great service by Joel at the Beach Bar, Andres at the Pool/Snack Bar, Rosa & Monica in the buffet restaurant and Nerida from the Coffee Bar. The rooms were clean. However, during the week although the maids "cleaned" the rooms every day you can tell it is a very very quick run through. We had hot water everyday but in our room the toilet did not flush very well, we had to go to guest  [... read more]services to ask for a worker to fix it. They did come that very same day, it helped for a day but then went back to not flushing well. TIP -The tank takes forever to refill so we would use the shower head to fill the tank and then flush again. Our shower hook/curtain fell down every day. We also asked for it to be fixed but they did not fix it until the last day. We never received fresh towels but some of our family did get fresh towels everyday. The air conditioner worked great in our room, however, one of our families room did not have air all week even though they ask for it to be fixed at customer service. Very inconsistent service and issues in each of our rooms. The food was not very good. I mean we already knew that Cuba never has the best food in the first place, plus with the supply shortage it was worse. We knew this going into the vacation so I am not complaining just informing. We always found something to eat. TIPS - The ocean was beautiful but there were rocks to get through when you first get into the ocean so I would definitely bring water shoes. - The mosquitos were terrible. Bring lots and lots of bug spray. - The flies at the beach were everywhere. Stay clear of sitting near garbage cans, throw out your finished drink cups right away. We brought travel mugs so the flies were not able to get into our cups plus the drinks stayed cold longer. The first few days not many flies but end of week tons of flies, perhaps the weather was the reason?!? - We left $1 USD in the fridge everyday with a note for extra bottles of water. Normally you receive two small water bottles each day but by doing this we received 4 bottles of water. - At the breakfast buffet some of the omelette stations have fresh eggs under the counter so if you ask the right cook they will fry those eggs. Bring your bacon to a cook if you want it crispier. - We brought peanut butter and had toast each breakfast. We brought some snacks with us, Pringles, Mixed nuts & Protein bars. I would strongly recommend this. - Book as many a la cartes as you can as the food was better in those restaurants over the buffet. - Do not miss the Tuesday show - acrobatics, it was great! That crew must come in just for that night. The rest of the shows in our opinion were not good. It was a different crew, less talented. We tried a couple but ended up walking out. Bring cards or games for night entertainment. They did always have dancing after the show. - If you want the bed to be more comfortable move the sofa bed cushions onto the bed for more cushion.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Last minute vacation

Arrived at this resort January 13th and was supposed to stay for 1week. On our arrival noticed many flies in the lobby. Arrived to our room and was pleasantly surprised; large clean room, modern shower, turned out to be a very comfortable bed. Resort is clean, well kept grounds, beautiful beach and nice pool. 24 hour snack bar served fries and ham and cheese sandwiches; not much more. We went to Melia Jardines del Rey where there was not much of an improvement. We are frequent flyers and have vacationed north and Central America, visited many islands in the Caribbean. We had been to Cuba 3 times before this, and were aware of the issues with food and drinks and no see-ums, but this infestation of flies everywhere was just too much. Not being able to have a drink or a bite to eat without covering your plate, cup, wine glass with a napkin was over the top.

Hotel Mojito: Stayed with my husband and sun 2 weeks December 2023.

Friendly staff, very clean resort , beautiful beach, great food in a la carte restaurant , and pretty good in buffet style restaurant. It was good selection of alkohol .. Planning to visit Mohito again.

Melia Cayo Coco: The Best!

We love this resort and have been 3 times in the last 2 years, and planning our 4th. The beach is absolutely the best! The grounds are well looked after, and the rooms kept clean. Depending on which block you are in, you may have some issues with the plumbing. This is the only down-side we experienced. The food was adequate and plentiful, as was the alcohol supply. However, the biggest think going for The Melia is the staff! All are courteous, attentive and smiley! Keep it up

Hotel Mojito: Amazing people!

People, what makes this resort to be a special place. We return here year after year to visit our friends who work there. The best part about Mojito is their Entertainment team. They work tirelessly to bring activities, dances, games, to create those special moments for people to remember for years. Food and beach are fantastic!

Iberostar Coral Esmeralda: Disappointing

The people were so unfriendly. The resort itself was nice but just couldn’t get over how the staff was. Just to ask a simple question it felt like you were putting them out. Not the Cuba I have experienced in the past. I would not go back if someone paid me. Such an unwelcoming miserable staff.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Not great

Very clean resort in the lobby and pool areas. Rooms are a bit dated. Mattresses a tad too hard. More bedding required on the beds, sheets are not enough. A/C works well in rooms. Sink pipes leak from time to time. Toilet stops flushing from time to time. Bottled water not left in rooms daily and seemed difficult to get. Front desk staff not overly friendly. Buffet selection limited, little fresh fruit available, often no meat available. So many Flies in buffet area all over food and bothersome  [... read more]while eating. Flies in pizza snack bar are overwhelming. Flies everywhere on the beach take away from the enjoyment. Bugs when sun goes down are awful - mosquitos, nociums, sand fleas - we were eaten alive even with bug spray. Home a week later and still treating bites. Bugs in sit down restaurants slightly more bearable. Drink selection limited - often out of key ingredients for mixed drinks. Blender drinks only available in lobby and on beach. Shortage of cola and Fanta most days.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Beautiful resort beautiful people

This resort did not disappoint. The grounds, pools, and facilities were well maintained. There was no shortage of toilet paper!!! An occasional day or so there were limitations with types of alcohol and mixes at some bars but you could always find a refreshing beverage somewhere. The food was specular (even had sushi 2 nights) at the beginning of of trip (Wed- Sat) but declined in choices thereafter, however there was always something to eat. Sadly, there was a down side to our vacation. We travelled as a family of 6 and all six of us were sick at one point from Saturday on. Also, the comments about the bugs turned out to be true, the no-seeums were viscous especially morning and evening, it took until the last 2 days of our trip to see the effects of this. Having said this, we must remember were are visiting a less fortunate tropical country. I question if it was related to the area, Cayo Guillermo? We did enjoy our trip and the children (4 and 6) experienced lots of joy and culture. I would recommend this location but with cautions, be prepared for travelers gastrointestinal issues.

Muthu Colonial Hotel: Not too Good of A Resort

Was not happy when one of your workers stole my phone .A lady told me she seen him pick up my phone and I went to him and he said no way and the service dest did not help either.The bugs were awlful..no hot water.No internet the second week..I Was not happy to walk the to the top floor every day when I have bad hips . That all I have to say about my 2 weeks stay

Melia Cayo Coco: Fantastic holiday

This was our 8th stay at m e l i a Resort. It was fantastic as always, it was really nice to see some of the a lot of familiar faces. Food was great as always, Resort very very clean as usual, staff was fantastic. Special call out to Vivian and Chino AKA Pedro. Looking forward to returning soon.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: ok resort

it as my first time at this resort, apparantly we are of the fews who had the less problems....we just had to fill the toilet water tank with the showerhead. Except of that the personal was great. I don't know what my expectation should be...but by the end of our trip...there was so much flies at the buffet...i was glad to leave

Tryp Cayo Coco: Beautiful Cuba

Although this hotel is showing some signs of ageing ongoing efforts are being made to maintain its appearance as well as its structural integrity. Continuous hot humid weather as well as frequent and violent storms cause havoc to buildings and vegetation but the people of Cuba stoically clear the debris, replant the lost flora, repaint their buildings and rehang their welcome signs. When money becomes available some should be allocated to improving showerheads and faucets. Unfortunately there were some isolated pockets of stagnant water near the snack bar and the main restaurant which caused unpleasant odors and which undoubtedly added to the overabundance of ravenous mosquitos. The beach and ocean are splendid. The grounds are well maintained and safe and as always the personnel was like family. The free WiFi was .such appreciated.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Beautiful Beach and Pool

The rooms were large and clean. The resort was very well laid out. The nightly lobby entertainment was outstanding. Most beautiful beach. The coffee bar was definitely worth the wait. Buffet had lines but food was always replenished quickly.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Very disappointed

To start off, I must say that I only book adult only resorts. This was advertised as one so I didn't see any problems . Once we arrived we were greeted with a screaming child in the lobby, then 3 children outside by the pool ( didn't see an adult with them, but they definitely were speaking French) jumping from sun lounger to sun lounger by the pool. The buffet is typical Cuban buffet with the food actually quite tasty, but bring your own spices. Even salt was difficult to get out of the shakers due to humidity. I guess they don't know the raw rice in salt shakers to absorb the dampness in the air. The pool areas were kept clean, but there were piles of undissolved chlorine on the bottom of the pools. I actually thought it was sand at first, but the pool boy told me differently. The staff were friendly as Cubans usually are. The resort was probably around 85% french speaking Canadians and were in no rush to speak to any English speaking Canadians which was very sad really. The beach leaves a lot to be desired, so we went by bus (5$ round trip) to Pillar beach and it was well worth it. We had a great lunch at the restaurant there, and were served the best mojitos I have ever had! The resort didn't have mint for mojitos so it was nice to sip on one at the beach. All in all, with the black flies, sand flies and sand fleas, the misleading about children at the resort etc, I would say it's a 3 1/2 out of 5. I don't know what the steps are to ask for partial money back, but I definitely am. I book adults only because hearing other people's little ill behaved children shriek and sit at all the stools at the swim up bar, temper tantrums in the lobby and dining room was definitely NOT in my plans for a holiday. I work hard and want time away from other people's terrors.

Hotel Playa Coco: My thoughts

I’ve been to Hotel Playa Coco 4 times, 3 since 2023 January 6-13 2024 being my most recent. I love the people and its heart warming when you walk around and several of them remember me-makes feel like I am at home. I love the size and layout of the resort. I found the food to be very good and there was plenty of it this last visit. The Cuban restaurant was good and the Japanese restaurant was a fun evening as well as good food. The pizza at the pizzeria is good but I found it wasn’t opened at th [... read more]e same time every day. The hamburgers, fries and tuna sandwiches were also really good. We had no water issues in our rooms-had hot showers everyday and the rooms were very clean. You may want to know the shower towels and beach towels did not get changed for us for the week. This did not bother us. There was an abundant amount of flies which is not the fault of the resort and they did spray quite often to try and reduce them.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Playa Pasairo

Had a great stay the resort is definitely family oriented. There were quite a few children but all ages. Actually, the rooms are large, although dated, no issues with quality of food or the supply of food à la la la carts were always fun and good food the pool is amazing as well as the beach, I believe my favourite part was the entertainment team, especially the entertainment in the lobby between seven and 930 till the actual show started with some going on electric guitar one night great singer [... read more]s another night always something to do an experience

Melia Jardines del Rey: Mosquito is everywhere

We had lots of bites even we sprayed off repelant, my partner has dengue fever right now and recovering. Food is avg and beach is ok. I dnt understand the mosquito problem. They only spray on the lobby area as in my 7 days bring there, they never sprayed on the units where mosquitos are everywhere.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Stay with caution

Stayed at the hotel January.2024. On the plus side hotel rooms have abundant hot water and amazing a/c in the rooms. Shortages are dire. Low drinking water supply in rooms. Ran out of so much food. We are used to Cuban food being somewhat poor but were always able to find something to eat. Buffet was scarce. Prepare to be hungry. Mosquitos are out of control. We were swarmed day and night. The pool is in very poor repair. The ocean is rocky but if you wear shoes to walk out there is clear spo [... read more]ts. I will not go back to Cuba until they get a handle on their shortages. It’s honestly a health hazard. Bathrooms were deplorable and toilet paper always empty. I have never seen Cuba like this. Hotel staff were good they changed our room no problem. One was having plumbing issues. Housekeeping are very good better than we had in Mexico. Great workers that way. Many staff struggle with English. It’s not common in Cuba to have so many staff not able to talk English. My family has been to Cuba many times but will not go back again till things are rectified. Not really faulting the hotel as much as the situation in Cuba.if you are looking for a wonderful vacation spend a little more and go elsewhere Cuba is not what it used be sadly

Melia Cayo Coco: I got eaten alive by bugs

Beautiful resort but I can never go back - I got eaten alive by mosquitoes and all kinds of flies. I’ll only go to Iberostar Selection Varadero going forward . Also. Adults drink and are super loud - couldn’t rest. Staff is second to none. Entertainment is weak except for the sax players . Thanks !

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Not great!

Shortage of everything! Would never go back ! Very disappointed! The beach was the best thing! Same thing everyday to eat! Someday they would run out! The coffee in morning was good service but that is it!
