Most of the resort was excellent....there was a few things I didn't like. They did not have enough evening shows. Punta Cana Breathless had way more shows and entertainment compared to Cancun Breathless and the entertainers were more hands on with the guests. The fridge in the room was warm so nothing cold to drink which was not good we did ask them to fix the fridge but nothing was done. The power was out for over 3 hours on one of the days so going to the washroom in the dark was challenging. [... read more]Other than a few minor things our over all trip was amazing!!

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Fun stay for our friends' destination wedding
The resort was clean and accommodating. We felt well taken care of and were part of a large group so we were never bored.
The buffet food was not good, however the Japanese a la carte was delicious. If we had known how good it was, we would have booked that for each of our a la carte meals.
All of the staff were friendly, particularly the bar staff in the pools. We spent the whole week drinking the Blue Lagoons and the Pink Lemonades.
The pools were great, but the beach left something [... read more]to be desired. It is quite small and we weren't able to swim for the time we were there due to the flags. If you're expecting a long stretch of white sand, you may need to re-evaluate. The beach was fine, just not what we were expecting.
Overall, we are not fussy people so it would have taken a lot to upset us. We enjoyed our stay.

Posada Real Ixtapa: Good for the money
Older hotel, but they are in the middle of renovation, so it was noisy. Our phone never worked, because there was a problem with the line in the wall. but other wise it was good. The staff were very friendly and help you at any time of the day or night. There was only one buffet with the same meals and the drinks were limited for 2 per day at the restaurant. The place was kept very clean but the ocean was wild the whole time. No-one could swim, and there was a red or black flag all the time. [... read more]There was a minimum entertainment. There was a free WIFI at the lobby. The side trip we took was the city tour and we went to the market, had food and had home made popsicle, and we got very sick with stomach flu ,fever and vomiting and stayed in bed for 2 days.

Las Palmas by the Sea: Excellent Resort - perfect size
The hotel room was excellent. It was clean, roomy, with balcony and the view of the ocean and grounds was spectacular. We watched many sunsets and started every day with a look at the ocean from our balcony. We loved the waiters who were friendly and very attentive.
We sat mostly at the larger family pool. The adult pool was boring and so many people smoked it was hard to breathe at times. The noise at the family pool was sometimes overwhelming. The activity leaders were very much into t[... read more]heir jobs and enthusiastic but always aimed at the teenagers. They spoke less English and were sometimes too wordy and not easily understood. But they were very nice. Perhaps there could be a little time of quiet. Families sometimes want to hear their kids and play their own games, and sometimes parents just want to read quietly. The crazy games were the best to watch.
We also enjoyed starting every day watching the huge waves and saw dolphins, whales and silvery jumping fish. This was the first time we saw whales - very special!
The food was excellent and ate most of our meals at the hotel. We did go to the town for dinner a couple of times as a special treat.
The entertainment was good for the kids and rather lame for the adults. I don't know why you don't promote more authentic Mexican music and traditional culture. We love Mariachi's but couldn't find any performers this year.
Over all our stay was excellent and we will be back again next year. Thanks to all the staff for a wonderful job!

Barcelo Huatulco: OK RESORT
The resort was ok .. It didn't really meet our expectations . My wife and I have used the Barcelo hotels for the past 5 years and we both agree that this hotel didn't stand up to the Barcelo standards . It was disappointing to stand in line every morning at 8 am with half the guests to book an a la cart only to find out at 9 am when the desk opened that there were no more spots available for that evening. Apparently from talking to the other guests everyone had the same issues. Usually you co[... read more]uld book 3 sittings all at once and have done with it for the week. This is the way we have done it at the other hotels. The other issue we had was trying to find a chair at the pool or beach in the morning .. People were going down at 5 or 6 in the morning and putting towels on 4 to 6 chairs then not showing up till noon to claim them ? Sometimes not till the afternoon when they returned from there day excursions . Apparently from talking to other guests the management was aware of these two important issues and were reluctant to do anything about it . I guess the rooms were full so they were happy !!! With the exception of the wonderful staff we were overall disappointed . We would defiantly return to the area but would choose a different hotel for sure

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Awesome time!
We had a wonderful time celebrating our 30th anniversary! 4th time visiting the Bahia chain, 1st time at the Bahia Cobs in the Mayan Riviera. Beautiful grounds, pleasant rooms, lots to eat and drink, many pools to swim in, and a lively beach. A little Ricky in spots but you can walk around them no problem as the water is so clear. We will definitely return!!

Riu Emerald Bay: We really enjoyed Riu Emerald Bay resort
Check in was incredibly smooth. Room was very nice. We loved the view from the balcony. We could see and hear the waves crashing on the shore.
Front desk people were exceptional. Very helpful in every way. Any questions we had were answered politely and thoroughly. They were wonderful. They even changed our larger denomination Peso bills to smaller denominations.
Food was very good.
There are quite a number of employees whose work is to keep the place clean and tidy. They can be seen at wor[... read more]k everywhere.
Pools are nice. Beach is gorgeous. You can walk a long ways. Beach is clean.
The entertainment started off really weak but got better as the week went along. The last couple of nights had excellent shows. The Mexican one was fabulous.
Brenda Melo recommended the Riu Emerald Bay resort to us. We are glad we accepted her suggestion.

Riu Emerald Bay: Beautiful Resort
This was our second all-inclusive trip and our second RIU resort. RIU did not disappoint.
We arrived at 5:30pm. The checkin process went very smoothly and were just in time to see the Pacific Ocean sunset from our 17th floor room.
We had a wonderful vacation. The weather was perfect. Not humid like it was on the Gulf of Mexico side at Playa del Carmen. The Amazing Mazatlan city tour was fantastic. We saw several whales on the whale watching excursion. It was very exciting and a fanta[... read more]stic crew on the boat. The only downside was that we were seated at the back, right in front of the motors and were breathing fumes for four hours. Headache, nausea and so exhausted we were in bed at 8:45pm, sitting out the entertainment on our last night there. We had heard about complaints regarding long waits for the elevators, but we didn't have a problem with that. The swim-up bar was closed for renovations, but it didn't really affect us.
Food was great, entertainment thoroughly enjoyable. It was over too soon!

Bahia Principe Explore Tulum: Stayed for honeymoon
My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon. While overall we enjoyed our trip we did have a few hiccups with this resort.
To start off our ocean view suite was on the dated side. While it was clean and comfortable, you can tell it was an older room. My wife and I did have issues with the room. On our first morning my wife was able to take a shower just fine, but when I stepped in to take one there was absolutely no water pressure. We complained and the issue was promptly fixed.
The seco[... read more]nd issue was with the safe. Initially we had a lock and key safe but on the second day we were given a opportunity to switch to a digital safe at no extra cost. The maintenance crew came quickly to install the safe and were in and out in less then 20 mins. On the third night though, right before my wife and I were about to go to dinner, we could not get the safe to open. When I complained the sub driector promptly arrived to fix it. It took him quite a long time to fix it. I ended up telling my wife to have dinner without me while I waited for him to finish. I liked speedy response time and the fact that it was the sub director that came to fix it rather than a regular maintenance person, but what I was upset about was not being able to have dinner with my wife on our honeymoon.
When we complained to the front desk manager, Leslie, she said she would talk to guest services to see what she could do for us, but we never heard back from her.
We didn't let this ruin our trip and quickly realized that all the other services the resort provided made up for these issues.
The buffet has something for everyone and the al a carte restaurants were amazing. The food and dining experiences at the al a carte restaurants were comparable to some mid to high end restaurants. We enjoyed the Mediterranean restaurant and the Don Pablo restaurant in particular.
The beach near the Tequila restaurant is gorgeous albeit rocky. The main pool has great entertainment throughout the day. The beach closer to the 24hr restaurant isn't great. It was full of seaweed that the crew shoveled into piles, and they had put a barrier up in the water so you couldn't swim far out. We spent 3 out of our 7 days off the resort on different excursions so we didn't end up spending a lot of time on the beach.
It was an overall good experience but we expected more from the room and beach. The grounds are very clean, the staff are all very friendly, and the entertainment is something special. If you are coming strictly for the beach, I wouldn't recommend it but if you are a pool person or going on a few excursions, than this is a good resort for you

Secrets Playa Mujeres: One of the better Secrets
There were no surprises with this hotel it is exactly as pictured. Everything is laid out in a U-shaped centred around the pool. We paid for a oceanview room but I had wanted to upgrade to a tub on the patio. I found out that this would be a downgrade which was quite surprising. The majority of restaurants are such a short distance away from the rooms it is just a nice walk and is not far at all as some reviews lead you to believe . The entertainment was phenomenal. Everywhere we went there [... read more]was live music. Every afternoon there was a band that played at the pool, there was always a violin player or a singer outside the theatre entertaining the crowds as well as the theatre itself . The service was above par. The drinks were served quickly, there was very little wait at the restaurants, housekeeping was prompt and kept our room clean. The lazy river at Dreams was a lot of fun and a nice perk. Just being able to walk over to Dreams is actually a nice perk . As the first full day of our arrival was very rainy we took up the offer to listen to the travel club presentation in exchange for resort credits. This presentation was to be 90 minutes. After the 90 minutes we advised we would not be purchasing. The sellers absolutely would not take no for an answer. They kept bringing another person to talk to us to make another offer. We continued to say no and requested our resort credits. They kept us for 2 1/2 hours before we finally got the credits. It was extremely frustrating and a very unpleasant way to start off our vacation.

Azul Ixtapa Grand Resort: Nice Resort!
Have travelled Mexico many times over the years this was the first to Ixtapa. The Azul Grand is a great place clean and well maintained. The grounds are well looked after and out door furniture washed down and clean. All rooms face the ocean, have a furnished balcony to enjoy are spacious and well laid out. The water closet, sink and shower each have their own space so can be utilized at the same time, very functional. Spacious closet as you enter the room for luggage, foot wear and clothing. Th[... read more]ree pools to enjoy and easy access to the beach. There is a lovely walkway between the Azul and the Azul Grand. Buffet has a decent variety and the food overall is quite good. Booking reservations for the restaurants wasn't the best experience. We arrived on Thursday evening and booked reservations the next day. We never got into the Italian Restaurant or the Oyster Bar for dinner there wasn't anything available during our seven day stay, very disappointing. We were able to get into the Mexican and Japanese restaurant so went twice to each the food was good. There is lunch available at the pool restaurant however not much if any change from day to day. Pool service is excellent. Tried to watch an NFL playoff game in the lounge Sunday but not the best set up for viewing if you happen to be a sports fan. Seating isn't really geared up to view the screens. May not be a concern if you are there to enjoy the peace and tranquility but just in case you travel with sports fans. Check-in and check-out are very quick and efficient. Overall a good experience would recommend and return.

Riu Palace Baja California: Good times in Cabo
The Riu Baja California only opened in December so we were expecting some "hiccups" but were pleasantly surprised at how well everything was running. The service was excellent and anytime we had any questions or needed anything they were happy to help and responded quickly to our requests. The rooms were beautiful and we loved the infinity pool. We had no complaints with the food at the buffet and all the a la carte restaurants were great. You couldn't make reservations as it was a first co[... read more]me first serve which meant you had to get to the restaurants right when they opened which was a little bit of a downfall. However, we managed to get into all the the restaurants and loved the food and service. Brandon and Carlos were great bartenders at the pool and Carlos (head waiter/manager) at the Sofia was awesome. Also Susanna who was a waitress at the buffet was great. We also did some tours with Cabo Adventures which was booked through our Sunwing agent at the resort and they were all fabulous. All in all we would recommend the Riu Baja California and we would love to go back to Los Cabos.
