Club Tropical: DO NOT GO THERE

WE BOOKED A 2 WEEK TRIP AND WE HAD BEEN TO THIS HOTEL SEVERAL TIMES. WELL IT IS A DUMP. SO BAD THAT WE SPENT ANOTHER 900 TO GO TO A DIFFERENT HOTEL. WE HAD A 2 BEDROOM APARTMENT FACING THE OCEAN BUT THERE WAS MOULD EVERYWHERE. ON THE WALLS AND ON THE BACK OF THE CURTAINS IN THE BEDR0OM ABOVE YOUR HEAD. PEOPLE WERE HAVING THINGS STOLEN CONTINUOUSLY. IT WAS JUST RIDICULOUS. THE TIMING WAS ALSO BAD AS IT WAS SCHOOL BREAK FOR CUBANS SO THE WHOLE ATMOSPHERE WAS CHAOTIC. PUSHING AND SHOVING AND IGNORA [... read more]NCE FOR FOOD, FOR DRINK, ETC. WE NEVER DARED GO TO THE POOL AS IT WAS PACKED. IF YOU WANT TO BE WITH CUBANS GO TO THIS HOTEL AS IT IS NO LONGER A TOURIST PLACE TO GO. THE BEACH IS BEAUTIFUL AND LUCKILY ONLY THE TOURISTS GOT TO THE BEACH SO IF YOU CAN STAND BEING AT THE REST OF THE DUMP THAN GO AHEAD IF NOTHING ELSE THAN JUST THE OCEAN. TOTAL RIP OFF. FOOD TERRIBLE AND EMPLOYEE ATTITUDES SUCKED EVEN IF YOU TIPPED THEM. THERE IS A PHENOMINA HAPPENING IN CUBA AND IT IS NOT GOOD FOR THE TOURISTS THAT IS FOR SURE. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESORT TO ANYONE AS A TOURIST. EVEN DOWNTOWN VARADERO WAS UNFRIENDLY. NOT SURE WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CUBAN PEOPLE AND I HOPE THEY SNAP OUT OF IT WHEN THE AMERICANS COME BECAUSE THEY ARE IN FOR A BIG SHOCK. SO BE IT.

Iberostar Selection Varadero: Awesome!

So many people had much to say about resorts in Cuba but our resort was great! The food, people, location, rep, beach - everything was perfect. We met people from all over the world. We felt very safe and we were treated so well. It worries me how the Americans may change the tourism there - I hope not.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Dated resort

This is a big resort lots of walking to and from the beach, clean and friendly staff. The food was good for Cuba . It could do with a big upgrade. Bath room tub not good for some one with knee problems. Jessica at front desk is star also the manager from spain / asst.manager did try to help out.

Barcelo Solymar: Unfriendly/Lazy Staff and Bars close at 2am !!!

I've stayed at Barcelo Solymar in May 2015. It was my 6th trip to Cuba. First, I've never seen such unfriendy/lazy staff members. What heppened to the ``Hola`` that we used to get all the time!?. In this resort, the staff barely looks at you. Please do not ask for anything that would make them work harder because if you do ask.... they will make false excuses not to get you what you asked for. Example: you ask for a drink, cheese or fries. They first say they don't have it. Then you insist by t [... read more]elling them that you had some a few hours ago or the table next to you have some. Like magic...the drink, cheese or fries are now on the table. They are just too lazy to get it for you!!! Note: not putting all waiters in the same boat. This is based on my experience. Second, all bars on this resort.including the beach bar closes at 2am. No music. no drinks after that time! I have to admit that the website does mention the opening hours. However, having been in cuba 5 times in the past and having never seen a resort where drinks were not available 24/7 or at least till 4am, I had never thought of checking the bar's openning hours before booking. So if you want to party on the resort, do not go to this one. On a positive note, the beach is amazing. The food is pretty good if you base it on Cuban standards. The hotel is a bit run down but again...we cannot expect much from Cuban resorts. Cheers

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Great Resort - Clean and Relaxing

We stayed for 5 days and had a fantastic time. This was our second time in Cuba and enjoyed this resort more. Our only concern with the resort is that we did not have any towels (beach or bath) and we didn't receive them until the second day. The staff was helpful and apologized but it seemed liked many of the guests we talked to had similar issues.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Interesting Resort

We enjoyed our stay, the room was kept very clean, Tammy, and she was always very friendly and helpful when we seen her. The beach is amazing and the Diamond Club beach bar made it even more amazing. The only issues we encountered were the birds flying and eating freely in the buffets and the long trek to the lobby when our door key cards wouldnt work (2 times) late at night. Would be nice to have a way that the keyd could have been brought to us when we called the front desk.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Vacation - Mother and Daughter

April/May 2015 We enjoyed this relaxing resort. By far the best was the excellent service received by the staff throughout the resort. This was our first time in Cuba, enjoyed the beaches. The pool was and grounds were very nice, however we were at the beach most of the time. Very nice for long walks, collecting shells and fantastic swimming. The food was as expected for the buffet - enough to choose from. The A la carte dinning were great. Although we did not book the Royal Service, which has a [... read more]ccess to nicer private bar and restaurants, we were able to dine in those restaurants a few evenings and the food was much superior. I would recommend if the price is not much difference - to book and stay on the Royal Service property. We met a number of guests who seemed very pleased. This would be my recommendation.

Melia Las Antillas: Food was lousy

Overall the resort was nice. Beach & ocean outstanding !! Entertainment was great ! Pool area great ! Now for the not so good ... the food was awful, low quality, no variety, same menu daily. Drinks don't expect much... served in small plastic deposable cups. No blender for frozen drinks. No name brand pop (Cuban only). Customer service very poor. I would not recommend Cuba to anyone ... we have been twice over a 17 year period & nothing has changed. Take your Immodium you will need it !! Mexico [... read more] is our go to destination, people friendly, welcoming. Food & drink to North American standards ! We read some raving reviews of this hotel prior to booking, so figured it was a safe bet. Now that we're home, we realize that these rave reviews probably came from first time vacationers who have no other resort to compare to!!!! Save your money people, don't go to Cuba. Mexico or Dominican Republic!!

Hotel Los Cactus: Good Resort

The room was very clean, staff was very friendly and helpful! I didn't have high expectations for Cuba but this resort definitely did prove me wrong. Would definitely visit again with family as it's very safe and clean!

Resonance Blu Varadero: Great Resort for the Active Couple!

This trip was amazing! My boyfriend and I are a mature young couple who both lead active lives and we wanted a resort that wasn't party central and a place to relax, unplug and rewind for the week of May 10-17. The weather was AMAZING. The beach at the resort was absolutely beautiful and there was never ever a shortage of chairs. There are also plenty of little huts for the option of shade or sun. The resort is along the peninsula of Veradero along with other resorts so it is safe to walk far al [... read more]ong the 25km stretch of beach. The food was great too! Its no Mexico or Dominican, but was still better than any other food I've had at other resorts in Cuba. The nighttime shows were so amazing especially the aqua ballet and the Micheal Jackson tribute are both must sees. There is plenty of crowd interactions and a circus one night too. Every night was different. We did the Japanese and Italian a la carte restaurants, the Japanese is a must. We decided to hire a driver and go into Havana one day. Be prepared-it's a very VERY long day but was well worth it to visit the cigar factory and the downtown market for cheap paintings and hundreds of other souvenirs. We also just did a half day trip snorkeling for only around 30 pesos through sunwing, highly recommend as this made our trip! We went snorkeling for 1 hour (800m loop) in a coral reef, and then traveled a few minutes and to spend another hour in a cave. Was truly a great and fun experience that's an inexpensive way to see Cuba and get off the resort for a day. The only thing is that the resort is big. I'd recommend getting a room near the center of the resort. The disco closes pretty early so noise shouldn't be an issue. There is a cart that goes around the resort every 10 minutes. Cuban time, though lol. We barely used it. That's the only "bad" thing, however it was a great week at a wonderful resort!!

Hotel Los Cactus: Decent resort

The property is nice but dated, perfect size, not too big or small. Rooms are spacious but mattresses & pillows need replacing. Same food every day. No theme nights at buffet except "Cuban night" which was the exact same menu. Beach is gorgeous though!! Pool is good but we witnessed too many middle age skinny dippers at night and no maintenance during the day, so needless to say, we did not use it...

Resonance Blu Varadero: Very nice resort for the price.

The hotel and grounds was well maintained and the food was good. The only thing I would complain about is the bathroom shower which wasn't working properly. The rest of the hotel was nice. The beach was beautiful and you can go for long walks.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Awesome

Overall the resort is very good. The beach was awesome. People are very friendly. Food wise, like any resort in Cuba, food is similar. However, it is still good. You have selection between meat, fish, chicken, cheese, and vegetables. The location is amazing. Two blocks away of the entertainments (pubs, clubs, market, rum store, and cigar store). There was a daily beach party with good music. Although there was a daily beach party and Cuban show, the resort was calm for whoever needs to relax. Occidental Arenas Blancas: Great Family Value!!

The overall resort was very nice, the beach is absolutely amazing! The room was okay, the waiting staff are very attentive and the food was fantastic for Cuba. Perfect Resort for a couple or family...located nicely from town, easy walk to shops, etc.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Great location

The location is great. Thee layout of the resort is good and the beach is beautiful. The pool was nice and had a water slide which was used by kids and adults. The rooms are just okay. The bathrooms and beds need to be upgraded. New linens, pillows and towels are a must. The food was typical Cuban.

Memories Jibacoa: Fantastic Vacation

Friendly staff, clean and spacious rooms. When we arrived we were greeted with a smile (11:00 p.m.) A porter showed us to our room, and to our surprise and pleasure we had been upgraded to a suite with kitchen and separate bedroom. 2 bathrooms. There was lots of variety in the food, and all was hot and fresh.

Melia Las Antillas: Had a good time .... Great Beach

Liked the resort and location to Varadero. The Beatles Night Club in Varadero is a most. Rock & Roll all night long and $2 beers. Pool bar may run short of liquor choices at the end of the day. The main restaurant had no air conditioners that worked.

Melia Las Americas: Very Nice Resort

The Hotel is very nice. Lobby is nice, clean and well laid out. The outside could use some cleaning. Walls look like there is dark spots that make it look aged. A good pressure washer would help with a nice paint job. The pool decks were being sanded and stained while we were there. Good job with that clean up. The Bungalo Suites are nice, but they are far from the main building where everything is located. Great if you want total privacy. The one they were giving us was at the very extreme edge [... read more] of the resort. We opted to have a room in the main building. Worked out fine. The General Manager was everywhere on the resort talking with everyone. He was really making a good effort to talk with people and get feedback about the place. The food was very good for Cuba. The Head Chef was really in control of his staff. Never felt hungry.

Palma Real: Amazing resort

We have been recently to this resort and have spent a wonderful time at this place. The food was repetitive but good, the hotel needs a little refresher but the overall looks ok. Their greatest ambassadors are, without a shadow of the doubt, their amazing staffs. The service was excellent. I would recommend this place to everyone.

Starfish Cuatro Palmas: Perfect location, perfect beach

This resort is right in downtown Varadero, with the beach on one side, and the town on the other. We upgraded to oceanview and it was amazing. Al la carte's need to be addressed, as the food was much better at the buffet. Buffet was great with plenty of options. We didn't have any issues getting beach chairs like others stated, but it was coming on to low season. Overall for the money we paid, I definitely recommend this resort.
