Occidental Caribe: Believe all the negative reviews
Upon arrival and check in, things appeared to be a little gloomy. This hotel is very dark and dated. We changed rooms 4 different times in 1 day. The situations varied from. cleanliness, broken safe, broken AC , and every room had a broken patio door lock, this appeared to be standard. The beach was gorgeous but difficult to find both beach chairs and pool chairs. Food was sub-par , comparable to Cuba standards. Will not go back to this hotel in future. When we discussed our concerns and [... read more]
Occidental Caribe: Don’t waste your money
Hotel is outdated. Rooms have many issues and staff won’t even come to check when you report it. Food is horrible. Room equipment is broken or won’t work. Beach is nice and staff are friendly. Do not waist your money more of a 1or 2 star resort.
Occidental Caribe: Love the location!
Hotel is in great location, beach is wonderful. Staff are plentiful and very happy to please. The rooms themselves need $ and tlc. The food is plentiful but overcooked unfortunately because selection was great and varied.
Occidental Caribe: Rooms accommodations, nightmare
The hotel grounds was beautiful. The beach was clean. The poolside had lounging areas that was quite accessible. The rooms were less than desirable. my experience. Upon arrival once we got to room, we immediately had to return to front desk to change rooms which ultimate had to be done 4 times for several different reasons. Example the lights did not work, the bathrooms were disgustingly, dirty, the sliding door to the balcony did not lock due to locks were broken the bedsheets had brown marks [... read more]
Occidental Papagayo: Very nice resort
Perfect location , only 1/2 hr from the airport. It’s a quiet peaceful resort. I don’t recommend this resort for people with mobility or breathing issues. A ride was almost always available. There are a lot of stairs & ramps. The beach wasn’t very nice. Hardly no entertainment at night. The food was very good, especially the 3 à la carte restaurants. The excursions were great. Friendly staff always willing to help you. It’s definitely not a party resort but if your looking for relaxing, [... read more]
Allegro Playacar: wow - a really nice resort with so much potential, but what happened?
great layout everything close by amazing beach close to town food was average but filling and tasty - still put on some pounds while there ( stay with the buffets) - Asian food very disappointing. alcoholic beverages flowing but the quality of alcohol left wanting- perfect place for adults, or families or friends - we had a blast the people phenomenal - could smile even when they knew we were not satisfied BUT: Maintenance of property - the infrastructure must be aging - externall [... read more]
Barcelo Bavaro Palace: A great resort
Overall, a very nice resort. Ideal for families and large groups, lots to do on the resort for everybody. Good restaurants and food was good, but not dynamic, but had lots of food. Once you are familiar with the layout, it is easy to get around. Staff was excelleent, friendly, very accommodating and very polite. Easy check-in and any problems encountered were not an issue with the staff. I highly recommend the resort for vacations.
Occidental Caribe: Very disappointed
Where do I begin. The first room I had, the door jam was broken (as if it had been kicked in), the room was not clean, tables had sticky surface, bathroom wasn’t clean, (pubic hairs everywhere) safe didn’t work. The building itself required some TLC, the grounds and pool areas were great. I ended up upgrading my room which was in much cleaner, although it had a musty smell. There was a shortage of towels and some days I had to find someone from house keeping to get a towel to shower. The [... read more]
Barcelo Maya Tropical: Great place!
Well kept grounds. A lot of walking. Lots of room. Did not feel over crowded. Very safe. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Very clean….well organized. Nightly entertainment was fun. Drinks were plentiful.
Occidental Punta Cana: Spotless and we'll maintained
The resort was beautiful. Staff were constantly cleaning and working on maintenance. There were gorgeous flowers everywhere. The food in the restaurants was delicious. Serving staff were friendly and helpful.
Allegro Playacar: Honest Review
The front desk staff was horrible. They gave me a room that was already occupied and then gave me a downgrade on the room I had purchased, and lied about it. No hot water and one day no water at all. The food was good and the entertainment staff was excellent. Place needs some serious attention.
Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Great resort!!!
There were many pros & few cons to this resort. PROS: Beautiful & clean, beautiful decor, very friendly staff, very large resort and many areas to explore, mall to do some shopping, double decker bus to take you around the resort, great pools, amazing restaurants with great food. CONS: Dolphin enclosure (animal cruelty), no bar in the main lobby to sit & socialize, poor night entertainment/shows, Playa del Carmen and Cancun are a bit far
Allegro Playacar: A week at Alegro
We were disappointed with the fact that the air conditioning did not work properly in quite a few rooms. No hot water for showers most of the week. No water at all one day , toilets didn’t flush…in all public washrooms most toilets were broken or non flushing. Food was good. A la carte restaurants were impossible to reserve. Each room had to line up at 10am to reserve and could not be done in advance. They couldn’t accommodate most people.
Barcelo Bavaro Palace: Got Food Poisoning! Staff Don't Speak English
I would recommend going elsewhere. Staff don't speak english well, it was too crowded, Wifi was poor around the pool, and they did not even have containers to let you take food out of the buffet. Buffet was super crowded. Joint room reservations were not honoured so if you have a big group and want to stay together or around the same complex, good luck with that. Staff don't wait on you and there is no welcome drinks at the reception. Entertainment/ shows are sparse and there's not even goo [... read more]
Occidental Arenas Blancas: Good Resort
Resort was not bad, a little tired. Probably needs a little paint. The employees are unbelievably nice and appreciative. Very polite and always had a smile. FYI they really would rather have Canadian money than US. The location is perfect. Steps to the beach and steps to the town of Varadero which has numerous restaurants, bars and shops, most of which are excellent for food and drinks.
Occidental Caribe: Bad service, beautiful beach
First of all, we are not fussy people and usually close our eyes on lots of things, but this place beats it all. It is definitely not a 4 star hotel. Rooms are old and smell like mold, plumbing is rusty and needs major repairs. The stuff seems to be not motivated. Be prepared to deal with issues as simple a as getting a beach chair, towels and finding table to eat. I had to wake up at 6 am in the morning to make reservations to restraints. Pros: beach and hotel grounds are beautiful. Short: choo [... read more]
Barcelo Maya Colonial: Excellent Resort
We have been to this resort 4 times, and it has never disappointed us. The staff work so hard keeping it very clean and servicing guests. Their cleanliness and food choices is why we’ve been so many times. We also took 6 other adults with us Jan.23-Feb.2/2023 and they loved it as well. This resort does not disappoint!
Barcelo Maya Tropical: Amazing trip!
We just spent a fabulous week at the Barcelo Maya Tropical hotel. This was our second time staying at this resort (2019) so we knew what to expect. The first time we stayed was for a destination wedding without our kids, this time we brought our two daughters 6 and 10. We opted for an oceanfront suite at the premium level, I highly recommend the premium upgrade. Premium gives you a private check in, private lounges in each resort, a la carte dinner every night booked for you in advance, room [... read more]
Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Fabulous Mega Resort
The Barcelo Maya Beach Resort and surrounding properties were phenomenal! They were clean, well maintained, offered beautiful gardens, mature trees, fabulous swimming pools, a wonderful selection of restaurants & buffets and plenty of lounge chairs. The beach was beautiful, but some parts were a bit rocky. The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to ensure guests had a great experience. As our group was travelling with a young child & infant, we had to be very well organized ge [... read more]
Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: shallow, rocky beach
After 10 hrs journey from Montreal, arrived late in the evening where 2 employee at the reception desk were ignoring lineup for some time, then started slowly to process "customers". Didn't really feel like customer or welcome by attitude of those 2.
