Barcelo Maya Tropical: Decent hotel

It’s a decent hotel but nothing special. The food was just ok, restaurant food was not good at all. Beach was very rocky and impossible to swim but pools were nice. The grounds are well maintained but rooms are very dated and some things in the room were not working well like closet door wouldn’t open. Service was good if you tip. Overall decent resort but I’m not sure it’s worth the price

Occidental at Xcaret Destination: A lush animal filled property

One of the nicest places to stay, STAFF amazing PROPERTY beautiful and lush FOOD outstanding, plentiful and a great variety LOCATION best in the area, minutes to one of the most amazing parks you will ever visit

Occidental Caribe: Deferred Maintenance

This hotel in its prime would have been beautiful. Unfortunately the upkeep on the buildings have not been done and it shows. As for the food reviews - all of what you have read is true. Food is cold, and constantly empty. This is not the hotel for good food!!! Also they don't seem to have a handle on the volume required for the amount of people staying there. We heard constant complaints from many other guests as well. The hotel was always running out of dishes, cutlery, tables for patrons [... read more], and when you could find one, it was dirty and you had to try to flag down someone to bus the table for you, and hopefully bring beverages or cutlery. (which, believe me took some effort and time!) Food quality was almost average on it's best day. Don't try the burgers at the pool restaurant - horrendous! A-la-carte? - good luck on getting one, unless you are up and in line on Sunday morning by 6 am...Otherwise you are out of luck! The shows are way too late in the evening (Starting at ten) We did stay up and watch two of them (Circ and Las Vegas show) which were entertaining, but should have been much earlier in the evening for guests to enjoy! The beach is beautiful! Loved walking the stretch daily and the water was amazing as well. It's too bad that the management isn't on top of this, as this is a prime location, and stately looking buildings, it's a shame it's being let go. We would go back to the area, on that beach but not to that hotel again.

Occidental at Xcaret Destination: No complaints !

Great 2 weeks at the Occidental ! Clean rooms, comfortable beds, good buffet, great à la carte restaurant. Friendly staff, we got on average 15 "hellos" per day from staff. Not a beach/sand resort but lots of big pools and the complex is huge. I would recommend without hesitation !

Occidental Caribe: A great week!

Once we arrived at the hotel, there were a few things missing.....we were supposed to receive a welcome drink and priority check in. Once in our room, there was supposed to be a bottle of rum and a coupon for the casino. We did ask for it the next day at the front desk. The coffee maker in the room didn't work. There was a broken lamp and most of the hydro outlets didn't work. The beds were comfortable. The food was good. The resort overall was pretty clean. The nightly entertainment was good.

Barcelo Maya Palace: Perfection as usual

This was our third visit to this resort. Three times a charm. Nothing but absolute perfection. Will be going back for a fourth time. Apparently I have to talk for 200 characters there’s nothing more to say other than the great fantastic holiday. We had rain for 10 minutes in our 10 day stay. I would highly recommend 10 day trip as you usually eat up two days. During your traveling.

Barcelo Maya Palace: Amazing family vacation

Amazing family resort. Beach and pools were phenomenal. Snorkeling was amazing. Rooms were spacious and clean. Food was okay - need to plan dinner reservations better. Perfect for families and very accessible throughout resort.

Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Good Times

Overall, we really enjoyed this resort. We stayed at Beach. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Bar staff at Strickers were especially brave when dealing with the mass of students at the bar. Shout out to Alex, pool bar/Beach, and Jonathan wait staff/Captain Morgan's. Barcelo Maya Riviera: Amazing Time! Beautiful and Clean

My fiance and I had a wonderful time at Barcelo Maya Riviera. PROS: 1. Cleanliness: This resort was spotless and it was obvious how much care and effort went in to keeping it clean. Bathrooms, pools, and public areas were cleaned very often and room service was available to come daily. Was very impressed. 2. Food: The restaurants on site were amazing for dinner, offering your choice of 4 course meals or buffet style in most cases. During the day, we ate breakfast and lunch at the buffett, which was excellent; huge with tons of variety and options. You'll need to make reservations in advance for dinner FYI. 3. Staff: Staff were excellent, professional, and very attentive to our needs. Very wonderful people. CONS: 1. Noise We were fortunate that we were in a room far away from the Lobby bar, as it can get pretty noisy with music until midnight. The hotel is also so large with no sound absorbers on the walls or ground that sound echos in the hallways. I heard fellow guests complaining of the noise level at night, luckily, we were barely affected being near the oceanview suites.

Occidental Papagayo: Average resort

The grounds were generally nice considering the dry season. The rooms were clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. The food was average but the fruits were amazing!! The staff was generally friendly. There were no planned activities and the beach was nice. The resort is very big and there were lots of hills.

Occidental at Xcaret Destination: A piece of Paradise

Where to start. You have to do the Royal Level. The suites are amazing. the grounds, the staff, the food are all top notch. No need to leave the area, unless you have the Xcarat park usage included in your vacation. We did. What a great park. Beautiful exhibits and the wild life is amazing. This was an amazing and wonderfully relaxing vacation. I recommend this to everyone. Be prepared to walk as the hotel area is large as well as Xcarat.

Barcelo Maya Tropical: Great resort

Very well kept resort. Grounds are beautiful. Beach is nice and well maintained. Rooms are comfortable and clean and the food is excellent. Only qualm is entertainment. Not very exciting around pools during day and the bars could use more variety of mix.

Occidental Caribe: Subpar resort

The staff, mainly the ones in the restaurant were friendly and nice. The hotel in itself needs a COMPLETE overhaul. The rooms and everything everything within, were EXTREMELY dilapidated, run-down. And yes, I'm aware that it's a third-world country but that doesn't mean that the bathtubs and toilets have to be clogged for days. Unfortunately, I would NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone.

Occidental Caribe: Believe all the negative reviews

Upon arrival and check in, things appeared to be a little gloomy. This hotel is very dark and dated. We changed rooms 4 different times in 1 day. The situations varied from. cleanliness, broken safe, broken AC , and every room had a broken patio door lock, this appeared to be standard. The beach was gorgeous but difficult to find both beach chairs and pool chairs. Food was sub-par , comparable to Cuba standards. Will not go back to this hotel in future. When we discussed our concerns and [... read more] grievances with our travel representative , we were informed that this hotel is the lowest on their scale of hotels and we basically got what we paid for , 1 star hotel at $1800,00 per person . Apparently, the ratinting of this hotel is not correct as it claims to be a 4 star. On the positive side of things, we missed the polar vortex! Something good came out of this!

Occidental Caribe: Don’t waste your money

Hotel is outdated. Rooms have many issues and staff won’t even come to check when you report it. Food is horrible. Room equipment is broken or won’t work. Beach is nice and staff are friendly. Do not waist your money more of a 1or 2 star resort.

Hotel is in great location, beach is wonderful. Staff are plentiful and very happy to please. The rooms themselves need $ and tlc. The food is plentiful but overcooked unfortunately because selection was great and varied.

Occidental Caribe: Rooms accommodations, nightmare

The hotel grounds was beautiful. The beach was clean. The poolside had lounging areas that was quite accessible. The rooms were less than desirable. my experience. Upon arrival once we got to room, we immediately had to return to front desk to change rooms which ultimate had to be done 4 times for several different reasons. Example the lights did not work, the bathrooms were disgustingly, dirty, the sliding door to the balcony did not lock due to locks were broken the bedsheets had brown marks  [... read more]all over them, I would definitely 100% never recommend this hotel to anyone personally I would never go back to that hotel. The staff was amazing the entertainment I give it a 60% could be better. When booking my vacation I did my research and this particular hotel was rated 4 1/2 star my opinion it was a one star at the most.

Occidental Papagayo: Very nice resort

Perfect location , only 1/2 hr from the airport. It’s a quiet peaceful resort. I don’t recommend this resort for people with mobility or breathing issues. A ride was almost always available. There are a lot of stairs & ramps. The beach wasn’t very nice. Hardly no entertainment at night. The food was very good, especially the 3 à la carte restaurants. The excursions were great. Allegro Playacar: wow - a really nice resort with so much potential, but what happened?

great layout everything close by amazing beach close to town food was average but filling and tasty - still put on some pounds while there ( stay with the buffets) - Asian food very disappointing. alcoholic beverages flowing but the quality of alcohol left wanting- perfect place for adults, or families or friends - we had a blast the people phenomenal - could smile even when they knew we were not satisfied BUT: Maintenance of property - the infrastructure must be aging - externall [... read more]y beautiful, no complaints of the landscaping, grounds, beaches, pool areas etc, updated rooms, but the mechanics - no A/C for many of us until a few days in (worked really well then), hot water and water pressure issues and the women's bathroom in the front lobby should be the biggest embarrassment to the hotel - did not work when we arrivedand did not work when we left. PLEASE, Allegro, make us all proud and get these things fixed (even if it is just the washroom) because otherwise it is the perfect hotel. spoiler alert: no matter what, the trip was loved by all..........................

Barcelo Bavaro Palace: A great resort

Overall, a very nice resort. Ideal for families and large groups, lots to do on the resort for everybody. Good restaurants and food was good, but not dynamic, but had lots of food. Once you are familiar with the layout, it is easy to get around. Staff was excelleent, friendly, very accommodating and very polite. Easy check-in and any problems encountered were not an issue with the staff. I highly recommend the resort for vacations.
