Bahia Principe Explore El Portillo: Quiet Getaway

Our 2nd visit to this resort and first with our young daughter (4 yrs). The beach is lovely with soft white sand and great for long walks that can go for miles. The ocean in front of the resort is gentle and great for kids due to the reef not far from shore. The new splash park with a lifeguard for the kids was a wonderful new addition since our last visit. As with most Bahia resorts, the food in the buffet is of good quality and enough variation as to not get boring for a weeks stay. The staff [... read more] in the buffet were always attentive and pleasant. The rooms are simple with not a lot of "fancy" features but always cleaned well. Mattress was firm with plenty of pillows and clean sheets. My only complaint would be that you had to pay an additional fee for the room safe ($4 a day) which should be included in your package so you didn't have the additional hassle at check in. Lots of construction going on with the addition of more rooms but didn't adversely affect our stay in any way. This quiet location won't be our secret too much longer...

Wyndham Alltra Samana: Great resort

Great resort. very clean rooms with extremely comfortable beds. ALL the staff in this resort were professionals, happy to make ur stay as pleasant as they could. All the staff. Location is really a paradise. Food can be improved. We had a great time!

Booked with Nolitours, had beautiful room with large balcony overlooking beautiful pool, no problem to get chairs at pools , beach is beautiful but unless you go very early its pretty hard to find a beach chair, the ride from the airport is quite long 1.5 hours. Small village within walking distance but not much there.

Wyndham Alltra Samana: ok resort for the price

Food was good - not as bad as reviews - but we are not picky eaters. I was impressed with the dinners on the beach. Staff were very friendly as well. Grounds were nice - perfect size resort. Drinks were good - not watered down like some resorts. The only complaint I have was the fact that they had difficulty with their air conditioning .... and it was so hot !! Beaches were beautiful. Another complaint is the fact that they let the locals into the resort on the weekends - nothing wrong with that [... read more] - however, the place becomes extremely crowded and the service gets re-focused !

Cayo Levantado Resort: Fabulous Getaway!!!! Hidden paradise

LOVED the resort; My husband and I were looking for a relaxing, pamper yourself getaway and this place gave us all of that. The villas is where to stay! Not a place for huge nightly entertainment...Staff were great, service was top notch...definitely will be back

Wyndham Alltra Samana: great resort

We are going back in March 2015. Can't wait we met new friends and the staff was wonderful.didn't see the time go by and we where there for 2 weeks. Love it. The food was great and we never ran out. Really enjoyed the party on the beach with a great meal and served like queens and kings the last night before we left the next day. Never had this before on our other trips.

The Eurostars Grand Cayacoa: Excellent!!!

Nice luxurious hotel with lots of stairs, bridges and elevators. Very clean with great guest services, beautiful open patio with great restaurants and buffet, close to the town of Samanas and other amazing places to tour and visit.

Bahia Principe Explore El Portillo: Fantastic Getaway

This is THEE perfect getaway! It was a quiet resort located on a beautiful stretch of sandy beach. Our room location was great, as it was close to the main pool, beach, and most restaurants. The beach is public, so there were sellers walking up and down in blue shirts. They left you alone when you said "no gracias." The grounds of the resort are beautiful. The selection of food was more than I imagined (and it had flavour!). There was no shortage of it, either. The staff were anxious to please. We found they understood French a bit more than English, though. Unfortunately we had to make a trip to the doctor, as I got a fever that wouldn't go away (cold-related). The doctor on staff (Tony) is wonderful. There was lots of paperwork to fill out, but I was feeling better and back on the beach within a couple hours of seeing him. You have to purchase internet (if you want it). We found we used it in our rooms at night when we were winding down. The cost was reasonable for 7 days. You also should purchase a safe (in fact, they highly recommend it). It gave us peace of mind knowing our passports, tablets, etc were locked up in our room when we weren't in it (which was hardly ever). We did one excursion through our tour operator. It was nice to get off the resort for the day. The hotel sells excursions, but it's best to go through your tour operator. On Tuesdays they put a bar in the ocean for the afternoon! It was nice not having to walk back to the main bars to get drinks! Snorkeling is free, but you can only reserve equipment for a 1/2 hr per day. Make sure to bring lots of $1 USD bills. It's good for tipping. We never had a problem finding beach chairs, although the ones under umbrellas were always gone first. It gets so hot by 10-11am that it's best to find a chair close to some kind of shade. Our chairs were never stolen either. We'd go for lunch and leave our towels (hotel-provided...new ones every day) and books on them. All in all we loved this resort and we would go back in a heartbeat.

Cayo Levantado Resort: paradise found!

We just got back from Bahia Principe Cayo Levantado - a choice we made based on the suggestion from Gina our Trip Central Rep. and it was an appreciated suggestion - we had a fabulous time. Thanks Gina it was all true! The resort is about an hour drive from Samana Airport, a tiny efficient airport and we were on our way in no time. We arrived at the mainland and waited about 1/2 hour and went on a small boat to the island. The resort is very lush and beautiful. We were in building 2, very centrally located - not far from the upper pool ( 2 pools, one upper and lower pool near the beach). Great spot! View of ocean was appreciated! We ate at all 3 a la carte restaurants and had wonderful meals. Buffet was also excellent - well about past Dominican standards we have met with. We we certainly go here again! It is a hidden gem for sure!

Wyndham Alltra Samana: Amazing resort

playgrounds of this hotel were always kept very clean. The staff were amazing always willing to help always with a smile . This resort had two dining areas one at the beach and one up near the lobby. Both places had enough food to choose from. My wife and I could not believe how nice the room was and how clean it was the maid service was fantastic. The mini fridge in our room always had two bottles of water and two bottles of pop. And the maid that clean the room was very honest. The Eurostars Grand Cayacoa: Beautiful, friendly resort!

The entire resort is beautiful and clean. The food was delicious and varied. The staff were friendly, helpful and fun. When we returned to our room each day there was a sweet surprise of flowers or chocolate. The resort made a very special occasion for Valentines with special food and decorations. The water and beach are gorgeous and there was no problem getting a shady spot. I would have liked to eaten at the beach grill more often but the selection was limited. Super nice stay.

It was clean, food was ok. Pools were just ok. Beach part was small, you can't really walk down the beach far, you walk on a path beside the beach. Rooms were ok. Its a 3* so we didn't expect much. Food was ok, not a big selection and all of us needed Imodium..every day for me! Careful of excusions, we went on a whale watching one with guarantee to see whales. They took us out in horrible weather and almost capsized the boat..everyone just wanted to go home after the first few hours. Left at 9 a [... read more]m and didn't get back until 5pm...was only to go till 2 and they do not serve any lunch just pop when you get to the small beach they take you to for a break from trying to find whales. Never saw a whale...they were too smart to be out in such weather lol All in all it was an ok resort for price we paid but I would not return.

Cayo Levantado Resort: Amazing Resort

Beautiful grounds and gardens. Lovely and spacious rooms and bathrooms. Very nice beaches with lots of shade if necessary. Nice swimming pools. Lots of chairs around pools and beach. Very good service. Delicious food and lots of choices. Spotlessly clean.

Wyndham Alltra Samana: Wonderful place!

We really enjoyed our stay here and were pleasantly surprised with this unique, beautiful place and the exceptional service. We would definitely like to go back here again some time. The Dominican people were awesome as well.

Wyndham Alltra Samana: a waste of oportunities in paradise

Excellent grounds but badly managed. From myngrup almost everybody got sick and they are not newbies. Its a shame that the management doesn't do a thing to prevent this from happening. The grounds are0 great and the diving team awsome

The Eurostars Grand Cayacoa: Great resort!

Staff are incredible! Food is amazing. Absolutely beautiful! Only downfall is all the stairs from top to bottom. Love that they had taxi carts though to make getting around easier if needed. Would go back. The only thing I didn't like was the push for timeshare.

My wife and I were looking for a cozy and quiet destination to relax, and after some vast research ended up here and we were not disappointed. The views of the beach and the mountains from our room were magnificent, the food was great, the outings were unforgettable and the staff were extremely friendly. The only thing was that the beach was so-so because it was small and the fact that it was at the bottom of the resort (you have to take the elevator) we spent most of the time at the pools on to [... read more]p. Go to see the Salto del Limon (waterfalls in the forest) and order some papaya with lemon (they dont usually offer it but if you ask for it they will give you some with a smile) We would definitely come back to this country.

Cayo Levantado Resort: Wonderful, clean, beautiful, exceptional resort.

This hotel was immaculate. The cleanliness, the service, the staff, the food, the entertainment, the pools, beach ... all in all wonderful. I would definitely go again and have been recommending it to my friends and famiy.

a quiet relaxing time enjoyed the beach- had shade trees on the beach which is great for me as I need shade so I don't burn the water was awesome-warm and shallow so you could go out far in the water food was great our room was very nice, clean and had a great view we loved it here we met a lot of nice friendly people -

The Eurostars Grand Cayacoa: A Secluded Gem!

The resort is lovely; maintains the exceptional high standards of the Bahia Principe family of resorts that we have come to appeciate in all aspects of service provision; food, cleanliness, romm accomodation, etc. I would like to submit a few worthwhile suggestions regarding the main pool; - as this is a relatively small pool and deck area, i feel a few minor adjustments could greatly enhance the overall aesthetics and guest enjoyment of the pool area. First and foremost the lounge chairs need t [... read more]o staggered around the pool, or clustered in small groups. This would be much moe appealing visually and would avoid guests being shoulder to shoulder within inches of a stranger in the lounge next to yours!!! Second suggestion; remove the "spa" area at the far end of the pool. It was not used once the entire wk we were there and the space could be better utilized to accommodate guest lounges- the spa is currently occupying the most lovely area on the pool deck and that area could offer the most amazing views!!! Third suggestion; replace the existing pool umbrella's with the thatch roofed, more permanent type( as located at the smaller pools), the current situation presents a potential area of liability resulting from guest injury! Several times the wind plucked the current umbrellas out of their holdings, flew accross the pool and narrowly missed injuring people in the pool and on deck!!!
