Gran Muthu Imperial: Our Experience

Check in was good. Polite and professional. We were very surprised to see many children as this hotel was listed as an adults only on the Trip Central booking site. It is also listed as a 5 star resort. I would rate it a 2 star at best. The lobby to the hotel is beautiful with lots of comfortable chairs and sitting areas. The children at the resort use the lobby as a play ground. Not unusual too see 5 to 8 children running around the lobby playing tag and games even during musical entertainment [... read more]. The room was standard and serviceable. The AC worked very well and our maid was helpful. Had the same bedding all week and beach towels as there were NO clean towels anywhere. We considered ourselves lucky as some folks didn't have beach towels at all. The room had a coffee maker but had to beg ($$)our maid for coffee to put in it. The food was typical Cuba. The bars had good service. The only mixers available were juice and Fanta soda. There was no wine all week except for Christmas Eve. All good as long as you wanted beer, coffee or water. We travel a few times per year and have experienced many different levels of service and quality at resorts. I would rate this hotel service and quality at 1 out 5 . There are so many simple things that could be done better here that would make the hotel a better place, but no one seems to care to make it happen.

Grand Aston Cayo Paredon Beach Resort: New resort, almost there!

Being a new simplistic resort, it doesn't have a wow factor. Its small and easy to get around. Most staff are great and they do a lot of things right, and some they are greatly lacking. The beach was very nice with coral and fish, they kept the seaweed picked up. Only had bugs our last morning, and they were horrific. Hot water ran out between 4 and 7 every day, so shower accordingly. Had to fight for water bottles, then began delivering them in the evening. No booze selection at all, just mostly hard crap alcohol and only had wine at dinner half the time. Very clean reaort. Cold pools and very windy most of the time. Felt very safe and alot of nice people with families with no drunkenness, as everytbing was watered down and the pool bar was empty because the pool was freezing. We had a great time despite shortages in Cuba still...they were pretty minor compared to other resorts. We will not be returning to Cuba when it is just as expensive as other places with constant lack of basic supplies. Great small resort!

Iberostar Coral Esmeralda: Fantastic Resort at an amazing location!

We had the fortune to spend 9 days at the Iberostar Coral Esmeralda. The rooms were clean, spacious, and comfy. The food was fantastic (especially the buffets). The staff was extraordinary, friendly, and thoughtful. We were lucky to enjoy the Christmas dinner and it was the best food we have ever had. The surf and turf were cooked to perfection. Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Disappointing this time

We were there from Dec10 to 24 We have been in Cuba 25 times and four times at this resort. This latest trip was one of the worse. There are not enough bartenders to deal with the resort being full. There should be a separate location for just pizzas. Average of 45 minutes to get a pizza at the Sea Sky. Only one oven worked. It has been this way for a long time. Only one bartender at beach bar. Last times we were here there was always two plus servers on beach. Bar in main plaza was only open f [... read more]or short periods of times. NO lifeguards on beach for the first twelve out of fourteen days we were there. Food is typical of what you get in Cuba. There are four Ala carte. Indian is our favourite, Pizza is good at Italian. Chicken is good at International. Soups are great in all. We had many issues that I will not discuss. This resort like all others in Cuba star ratings are not accurate. I would rate this one 3.5 stars. We keep coming back to this one because we know what to expect and the other resorts could be worse.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Liked the resort but antertainment was too late. 8:30 would have been perfect

The workers were Awsome room clean…waiters very nice…food was good…waiters Carlos and his friend were Awsome…although the weather was awful I would not go back….not your fault. Nice when your waiters come to see you for breakfast…

Melia Cayo Coco: Great Service

Hotel still spotless Only change since last year is food issues. Food variety has diminished. Staff say it's an issue all over Cuba It's a supply problem. Al a carte restaurants down from 3 to one. Delicious but less variety.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: OK Resort

The Resort was beautiful, the beach was beautiful, unfortunately the sand fleas were quite bad. The food was ok but the shortage of food in Cuba was apparent. All the other Hotels were also in the same boat. No eggs, orange juice, pop or beer on tap a lot of the time. There was a mix up with our room in the first couple of days, But they moved us without hesitation and followed up to ensure we were satisfied. For the most part overall was a good place to go at a reasonable price.

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Shocked

We stayed two weeks. Hotel, rooms, beach, service are great by Cuban standards. Food - is beyond terrible and I mean it. Vegetables selection - cucumbers and cabbage (not even fresh), that is it. Same food selection is served every day. And the selection is at its worst. Prison food. Flies are everywhere in the restaurant. Entertainment is minimal. You WILL get bored unless you are a kitesurfer. Decay is evident everywhere. It is only going to become worse. I love Cuba. I have travelled [... read more] to Cuba more than 20 times. Hotel Playa Paraiso: Excellent Resort!!

I recently spent two weeks at Hotel Playa Paraiso, from December 7 > December 21. I was highly impressed by the resort. The room I was in, was spacious, clean and bright. There was ample water pressure and hot water, and the AC unit worked well, when required. There were two single beds in the room, which were firm and comfortable. The curtains and sheers were highly functional. The shower/bath tub was excellent. The TV and mini fridge worked fine. Lighting was adequate. The maid [Yaima] did [... read more] an excellent job cleaning the room on a daily basis. The grounds were well kept, and the large swimming pool was immaculate. Plenty of chairs were available at the pool. The beach was deep and sandy, with plenty of chairs available. The water depth increased very gradually, so it was exceedingly safe. You could walk a considerable distance in either direction. Nightly entertainment was quite good, with a considerable variety of entertainment. The music on the beach, around the pool, and in the lobby, was too loud for my liking, but that seems 'par for the course' in Cuba. The buffet dining room was large and clean, but there were flies constantly on the tables. Such could be easily rectified with a dozen fly swatters or so, and some effort!! I did not eat at the a la carte restaurants, but did hear that the meals there were so-so. The food in the buffet restaurant was quite good for Cuba, especially given the recent food shortages in the country. I was impressed with the constant variety of fresh fruits [papaya, white grapefruit, bananas, pineapple, orange slices, clementines] at all meals, along with the rich, creamy white cheese. Normally there was only white bread and buns available, but half the time there were some dark buns with more texture [I'm not sure if they were whole wheat]. Butter was in abundance. Several cereal choices were available every morning, but the milk and yogurt appeared to be made from powdered milk. The freshly grilled fish at lunch and supper was excellent, although it was Tilapia and Basa, which are not recommended nutrition-wise. No shrimp or calamari. It should be noted that there were no eggs available, the last two days that I was there. I might also add that I heard "horror stories" about two other nearby resorts, where there were serious food and water shortages. In fact, several guests from those resorts were transferred to Hotel Playa Paraiso. I have been to Cayo Coco over 12 times. In truth, this was the best resort that I have been to, in Cayo Coco. Melia Jardines del Rey: Melia Jardines, Cayo Coco.

The beach, the beach bar staff , the pool and pool bar staff were great as usual. No hot water for the entire trip. No white wine, no cola short some other things. Its been a year now like this. Especially frustrating when a utuber aquaintance at a neighboring resort says they had everything. I'm going to start looking for other options. as well, they assured me the pool wi fi was fixed and running whereas actually it had been removed.

Iberostar Selection Esmeralda: Attention to Traveller

Overall I had a good time but that’s because of the people I met. Beach was nice very clear water. The biggest problem was the food. Lack of options and the same stuff almost everyday. I had no eggs for the entire week. There’s no soda at all. Only drinks were water,mango juice, guava juice, and beer and whatever cocktails. Gran Muthu Imperial: Beware

This resort had no water for 4 days out of the week They had no drink mixes there was no fruit or vegetable. If you can eat fish all week you would be ok. The beach was all rock if you go bring water shoes had to take cab to another beach.

Grand Aston Cayo Paredon Beach Resort: Très bel hotel

Hôtel récent, propre, avec de nombreuses piscines spacieuses et des spectacles divertissants. La nourriture par contre reste de qualité médiocre, malgré que ce soit un 5 étoiles c’est Cuba donc peu varié et très redondant.

Iberostar Selection Esmeralda: Not a 5 star resort…

We chose this resort for the location as we wanted to do some fishing. Resort itself is fairly new and clean. Not much in the area to do outside of the resort if you are looking for an excursion. They had almost no alcohol (beer and sometimes wine), so we bought our own at a local store. This wasn’t a big deal as we weren’t really there for the drinks anyways. Food was as we expected, pretty much the same items on the buffet each day. Eggs one day but other than that, mostly meat, bread and [... read more] cheese. For what they did have, it was decently cooked. We had no hot water the first four days that we were there. Each day that we complained we were given a different excuse (runs on solar, it’s the breaker, etc.). It didn’t seem like anyone cared to fix the issue. Then one night we had an accident and got the sheets dirty (lady problems). We returned to our room to find that we were locked out. Upon going to the front desk we were told that we had to pay $20 for “special laundry services.” We spoke with guest services and told them we would pay on check out. The next day we were out and once again returned to our room to find that we were locked out. Went to the lobby and was again told to pay the bill. We found this extremely frustrating as no one cared to fix our hot water but yet they demanded payment for a sheet immediately. We didn’t care about the money but was the principal of the fact that they went so far as to lock us out for payment when we didn’t have basic amenities. It took us about 3 hours to have this issue resolved and it was only resolved once other guests also chimed in that that also didn’t have hot water. We also saw another couple get charged for a dirty bath mat which seemed a bit ridiculous. The managers at the resort are useless and seem to have zero authority to make any decisions at all. Overall the guest services staff and Jorge in the lobby were excellent and extremely friendly and helpful. The resort was also about 99% full of Russian tourists who the majority of were quite rude and cut in line at the buffet and would steal booze from the bar staff. The Cuban staff seemed to be very frustrated with them as well. I would say that this resort it’s definitely not a 5 star, probably more like a 2. If you come here it’s not for the amenities, it’s for the beach and location.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Would avoid this resort

Pro’s: Great beach/nightly entertainment/great coffee Con’s: Rooms are very rundown and neglected of any maintenance/had a ring stolen from luggage/very cold pool/food is sub par throughout the resort/very limited drink choices

Resort is very nice, clean, comfortable,. Beach is amazing. Food and beverages not good at all. I was expecting food being not great, but it was much worse than I thought. But overall value of this resort is good.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Nice resort

Beautiful place, food was amazing, we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. It is not a good choice for people who prefer beach over pool, you have to walk quite a ways to sandy beach, Water is very beautiful, we got 4 windy days from hurricanes off Florida coast but still managed to get a nice tan. 1 full day of heavy rains. Shortage of clean towels for room only once were ours changed, also toilet paper was scarce, the maids did the best they could. Beach towel was never changed , we managed as we we [... read more]re enjoying the beautiful infinity pool. The staff was amazing and so were the gusts it was quiet for the first few days then got considerably busier. I suggest bringing towel and toilet paper for emergency use, but definitely recommend this resort, quick side note as of November it was no longer adult only, we did not know that,. There were a few kids but well behaved .Highly recommend the Cuban, international and Mediterranean dinners, they were fabulous, can’t comment on shows as we did not see them , as they were in the lobby

Tryp Cayo Coco: Amazing place

Tryp was exactly what I needed! I had no idea what to expect and I was overwhelmed by the friendliest staff who went out of their way to make sure our stay was excellent and comfortable. So much food and a very wide variety. Chefs prepared such amazing meals for us and the wait staff, bartenders made sure we never went without. Pool was beautiful and so clean with the ocean just over the bridge.

Iberostar Selection Esmeralda: VERY POOR CHAIRS BY THE OCEAN AND THE POOL

I am not the only one complaining from pain caused by the lounge chairs scattered throughout this resort along side of the pool & the chairs by the ocean even worse. Had a great time other than having to come back and straight off to the doctor. Sciatica pain in BOTH legs, very unfortunate, started day 2. URGENT****** THIS RESORT NEEDS TO INVEST IN NEW LOUNGE CHAIRS.

Iberostar Coral Esmeralda: Very Beautiful and CLEAN

The hotel, grounds, absolutely beautiful beach and staff was awesome. The food, well its Cuba so the choices was minimal and limited, never hot. The food was warm at best and salty. The snack bar The same. Fyi don't expect to get fries. ?. The drink was awesome.
