Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Average not a 5 star or even a 4 dtar

The hotel is very outdated, the food is mediocre not a lot of vegetarian options everything is mixed up with meat, u would think being in Mexico you would find good tacos but none, not a lot of seafood either. They tell you that you can use other barcelo resort but once you are there you have to pay extra to eat in the others. Only 4 a la carte but none available for booking. I would not go back there. The beach is very rocky and will hurt you feet.

Barcelo Maya Palace: Quite the resort!!

We had an amazing time at the resort, lots to do, amazing pools, bars, buffets you can't go wrong. Rooms were clean, staff amazing as well, we would go back! Having access to 5 hotels, and a double decker bus to drive us from resort to resort or walk the long private beach at your leisure.

Occidental Caribe: Terrible Resort

The front desk service was terrible! Took 3 hours to get a room! Our bathroom flooded everyday, toilet leaked. Our safe broken, patio door doesn’t lock. Other people had the same key card coded to our room. 5 people just walked in! A la Carte restaurants were all booked up. No one ever answered the front desk phone all week. Said there was a 24 snack bar, there wasn’t! Not enough chairs at pool or ocean. People were fighting over them! Food was just ok. Occidental Costa Cancun: I’ve been to better Resorts

I will not recommend this resort to anybody, the A/C was either on or off, could not control it, there was sewer smell in our room 3 times, toilet wouldn’t flush sometimes, the shower would go from burning hot to cold, the balcony wasn’t even big enough to put 1 chair on it and you could look into both your neighbours balcony, only 2 English channels on tv , the nightly shows were right below our room and the food was just okay, and no hot tub

Occidental Cozumel: Great week had by all!

Stayed Jan 21-28. All rounded wonderful week. Beaches are limited due to hurricane erosion but found a beautiful spot at the end with lots of shade and sun options. Bar Service on the beach was great and enjoyed the daily pool aquifit with Axel. Treated ourselves to a Royal level package and really enjoyed the upgrade. Private dining room was especially delightful for breakfast as well as a couple of international dinners. Spoiled our group of 8 with a beautiful show in preparing bananas flam [... read more]bé and Mayan coffees. Reservations for the entire week at dinning rooms with Mediterranean being our favourite. Will definitely keep this resort on list of return options❤️

Occidental Cozumel: If you go upgrade to the Royal level

The resort is beautiful and clean with a very friendly staff. If you go upgrade to the Royal level. With it you get a larger room, in a private off the main path setting, your own hot tub pool and a restaurant that you can use for all three meals if you wish. Royal allows you to also book in all the other restaurants. We were greeted with a bottle of wine in our room and a bowl of fresh fruit. The majority of people were 40+ in age (although there were younger people and families) and was v [... read more]ery quiet at night. We never had a problem getting chairs at the beach or the pools. Restaurant meals were leisurely and not rushed and we were offered specialty desserts and coffees to top them off. Would definitely return.

Occidental Nuevo Vallarta: Love the size of this resort.

All grounds and gardens are beautifully maintained. Resort is very clean. Beachfront is beautiful and sandy. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Nice no food is at poolside which keeps birds and bugs away.

Occidental Tucancun: Occidental Tucancun – Comfort and Value

The Occidental Tucancun (all-inclusive resort or room daily) is a medium size property in the middle of Hotel Zone, 25 minutes by bus outside Cancun city or from the airport. We recommend this resort which offers many of the usual amenities for a moderate cost. We're satisfied with clean sheets, good food, convenience and value. Seafood restaurant Claraboya is more elegant and open for breakfast and lunch and we usually enjoyed those meals there. Soup lovers like me will appreciate cream soup [... read more]s of mushroom, spinach, carrots, tomato, potato, which were nicely flavoured. Amazingly, the common mashed potatoes are to-die-for. Pretty decent fish is on the menu daily everywhere. Grouper is a high-protein fish that is low in cholesterol and contains significant levels of protein, vitamins, and minerals. Three a-la-carte dinner restaurants offer some good choices provided your selections are thoughtful and undemanding. For examples, in the seafood restaurant we liked the braised salmon steak; in the Italian we liked the flambéd shrimp cream pasta; and in the Mexican restaurant we relished salsa freshly made to taste at your table with mortar & pestle ¬¬- all excellent. Sadly, a warning, that in spite of all the aforementioned praise, all cooked dishes were oversalted. The bar scene in the hotel is happy, active, and intellectual (...just kidding!), but there's no live music to compete with the revelers' loudness. The Tucan Theatre was serendipitously excellent, offering seven different, entertaining shows: magic, mariachi, circus, Mexican folklore, Michael Jackson, Three Tenors and enthusiastic karaoke. After the show, there's a terrific singing artist playing latin music for listening or dancing. It’s fun to watch very authentic latin dancing, and to join in if one likes to dance. We do! My vacation advice: don't retire to your room if you're not yet gently full, sloshed and tired. Three fresh pools are available and one is for adults only. At this resort, if you're challenged by stairs, know that there are some to get around and down to the beach. The landscaping is beautiful and impeccably groomed. Finally, regarding staff inviting you to a “presentation”. Yes, annoying, distracting and time consuming when your time in the sun is limited. Ok, don’t get your bikini in a knot, just say no! But still I’m empathetic, because these workers are just trying to make a living by upselling you to their “club”. I’ve met people who have participated and survived and even purchased. Take it easy on your vacation.

Barcelo Bavaro Palace: Food is terrible and service isn’t great at all.

So food is not good at all! Me and my son were sick for a few days because food seems to be undercooked half the time. Staff is waiting to get tipped to serve you. Make no effort to please. I actually tip everytime and still had some bad service. At check out they charged my visa even though I paid the balance in cash for room charges. Then I call to rectify this and no one seems to speak English. Tripcentral did not help me with this at all which I expected them to considering I booked through  [... read more]them. Hotel is a beautiful facility and beautiful beach. Expected a lot more. I guess you get what you pay for.

Palma Real: Friendly Resort

We arrived at palma real 12 days ago .This hotel has been closed over 2 years since covid and they have redone the pools since then The rooms are still the same but at least everything was in working order The atmosphere was great everybody reuniting for first time in years and the staff are all very friendly and helpful The food unfortunately has not changed but they do the best they can with what they have ! And there are a lot of shortages in Cuba right now The whole front of the hotel [... read more] is now busy with vendors and restaurants and very built up now You can't beat the location it's right in the middle of all the action and within walking distance to Beatles bar Although the beach is located across the street it's a short walk and you have access to 2 more great hotels Great holiday stay !

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Resort changed

This hotel declined alot in service and cleanliness, I had been there numerous times before staff were nice and courteous but the resort itself. Restaurants for a la carte closed no more disco, bar closed at 11pm no more access to food for 24hrs had diffferent drinks on a daily basis ie: fanta, rum, water no beer everyday it changed, no cola just lemonade!!! Well it was an experience one I do not want to experience again.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Nice place for vacation

I've been there six times now and things has change so has the rest of the world.The resort is clean ,staff is very friendly even though there are less than before to do the same work,the food is better than before covid,some people will complain no matter what and the beach is always wonderful.We had access to Solymar and Palma Real resorts but not much happening there ,the buffet at palma real was very good,The ranchon resto (beach restaurant was close but they a BBQ on beach every dayThe w [... read more]aiters at lobby bar and buffet were all nice Thanks to Lazaro for being special waiter The resort is close to town varadero ,now they have more to do ,chip stand,small flee market etc. With the new currency lots of people have problem with money exchange.They accept U.S. AND CND money the peso is worth one canadian dollar.But over all every day is a new experiece and I would go back to this resort again

Occidental at Xcaret Destination: A beautiful place rich in culture, music and beauty

The rooms are modern, clean and comfortable. There are staff on site to provide information or to assist you. Three main pool areas, depending upon your preference, these areas are constantly being cleaned. Main buffet has lots of selection, with 4 alternate restaurant options. It was clean, well stocked, the staff are friendly, courteous and respectful (all of them). This is a place where Mexican families come to visit Excaret Park, so you aren't 100% tourists... The park is a short walk away, with a spectacular Mexican show, much to see and do. This country is rich in culture, music and beauty. If your an outdoors person, the unlimited park pass is recommended. From swimming with dolphins, seeing giant sea turtles, the aviary...you can't see it all in a day. Its not far from the airport. One of my best vacations.

Occidental Caribe: Updating needed

Hotel was okay but in need of major updating. Hotel room was very moist and lots of mold. Hotel is family friendly for little ones with many activities Hotel seemed to be lacking staff most likely due to covid causing longer waits for food and drinks

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Amazing memories! Great times

I honestly have to say that this resort brought such great vibes and really brings a lot of fun and entertainment! Don’t look at all the negative reviews about the food or even the hotel. It’s cuba what do you expect? You pay for what you get and honestly I went by myself and had such an amazing time and experience. Met great people, the entertainers made it super fun and I ate more In cuba than I did back home in Ottawa hahaha. Only feedback was the alcohol at times ran out with mixed and they offered rum and Fanta or rum and coke which was not the best mix and gave some heart burn, but thankfully the hotels were affiliated with other blancos resorts so we ended up going beside the affiliate and still enjoyed the drinks. Live entertainment was super fun, beaches were beautiful, and Cuban workers were extremely nice. When I first started reading the negative reviews of some people I laughed historically after coming back. These people exaggerate too much. Again, my thoughts may be different from others but I will definitely be coming back to this resort. Grateful for the experience and the price! Best bang for your dollar for sure! I my advice is bring clothes and items for the workers, the money and tips are nice for them but they really appreciate items and clothing. Please make sure to give to these amazing workers, they do a lot and take a lot of bs from negative people. They would really appreciate it.

Occidental Nuevo Vallarta: Amazing resort

Love the hotel. The grounds are beautiful, The beach is great as is the pool. Enjoyed the buffet, the Tokyo and the Italian restaurants. The drinks were superb. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The staff are very friendly and helpful. This was my 5th time at this hotel and can't wait to go back. I have been to many other resorts but this is my favorite.

I am writing this review of the Barcelo Maya Beach Resort in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. I have been vacationing in Mexico for many years and this is my first stay at this resort. My travel agent advised me that she had a better experience at this resort than the one I have been going to for many years. Unfortunately it did not live up to my expectations. Again, Barcelo Maya Beach Resort is a beautiful resort. My first disappointment was the food. Not the variety, but how almost all the food displayed in the buffets were cold. Even as they were brought out. I have never experienced that before on a Mayan Riviera resort. Almost all staff was amazing, although a few servers seemed like they gave some attitude (but that's understandable considering the amount of staff they have). I was very kind, thankful and left tips, so it definitely was not from any vibes I was sending to them. The second was the musky smell coming from our room as we entered for the first time. I expect those conditions because of where we are, however, it would make a great first impression if the room smelled better. The grounds were amazingly kept. Very clean. The front desk staff was always very helpful. Thanks Alan. And the pool bar staff was great as well. Shout out to the amazing Rosy. All in all, it was a great stay. My views about this resort are just to make some suggestions on where they could improve, that's all. If it's your first time to Mexico, you can't go wrong staying here. You will be impressed. Unfortunately I have been exposed to a better resort.

Barcelo Maya Palace: Beautiful resort!

Resort was clean, the staff were helpful and friendly, pools and beach were clean and beautiful, food was delicious at buffets and restaurants, some food was cold at the buffets, and we prefer hamburgers well done

Barcelo Huatulco: Struggling resort

Probably like most resorts there is a reduction in client's and cash. This hotel, this chain of hotels the Barcello had such a reputation for luxury. This resort in Huatulco does fall short of that mark it's not 4.5 stars a strong 3 star. The problem is not the staff they were all great. They are understaffed and over worked. The problem is corporate greed yes times are tough but it's a mistake to lower the staff's ability to offer a great experience.
